Regarding the Living Colossus games;

If these are for level 8, is it actually possible to have a level 8 PC by this point? I'm assuming, since it should take 24 scenarios to have a legal level 8 PC, that they'll be handing out pre-gens?

I think that Wintergreen was looking into this, but I don't think that these were intended to be PFS scenarios...

That makes sense.

I'm easy which scenarios I play, since I haven't played any yet.
The chance to play at Logue's table is tempting, but I guess I'll be able to hear what's going down, even in another room. :)

Wintergreen is a bit busy at present, but his advice with regard to the Pett/Logue scenario is to bring along your own pregenerated 8th level character created using basic 3.5 rules* and a 'standard' point buy.
Hopefully he will be able to answer further questions later in the week.

*With regard to a campaign setting of Golarion for languages, etc.

Ohhh. Some sort of twisted brain-sucking monster which forces you to pick it up and wear it, I take it?

Makes a mental note, expect 'death by fez' to place highly in the 'most embarrassing deaths of the convention' rankings.
Excellent and ingenious work Mr. Pett.... :)

Are we playing Chakratin under 3.5Ed DnD rules? Rather not turn up with the wrong type of PC... Fez or no fez.

Cheers

The Exchange

I spent yesterday afternoon building PCs for the Chakratin game for myself and two friends, pretty much as Charles said before.

The PCs are all core, i.e. taken from the SRD to maintain balance across both groups of players, but not using the psionics rules. We used 20pt stat buy a la Pathfinder Society and wealth of 27,000gp from the DMG (page 135) with no more than 13,500gp spent on any one magic item. Hit points were calculated using the Pathfinder Society rules.

Also because this is a one off adventure, I'd suggest that we follow double costs for disposable magicks like potions, scrolls and wands. Its in the DMG somewhere (can't remember where); it tends to keep players from buying the scroll for every occasion, and the haversack filled with wands.

Finally to help with party balance I have volunteered to do all the characters, so that we get two fairly balanced parties, with a wide variety of skills and abilities. Waiting to hear from Wintergreen about that. Meanwhile I'll continue drafting out the two parties.

If anyone playing does decide they want to build their own, then I'd consider it a favour if you let me know, so that I can reduce my workload for this (I'm DMing at least 2 slots as well you see).

Today I have written up three more PCs.

Cheers

The Exchange

Please ignore the above, Nic has done the pre-gens for all of us.

Cheers

I'm planning to arrive by train at (B'ham) New Street on Friday at either 17.56 or 18.55; I suspect I'll go for the one that arrives at 18.55.

Will anyone want to share a taxi to the uni?

Of course, if someone(s) would be happy to pick people up at the station, that would be even better!

(Note: I posted the above on the Paizocon UK website, and am doing so here in the hope that more people may see it.)

The Exchange

Sorry I'm offline at the moment so can only access this site from work and don't have access to my emails at all. Rob is keeping an eye on the email and it looks like everybody has everything in hand.

Looking forward to seeing everybody!

Will there be winged monkeys?

Or have we double-booked with the Laurel and Hardy convention?

Judging by your avatar, you have no opposable thumbs.

Is that a problem?

To be honest, Aston isn't that far from the station, it's probably just as easy to walk it.

Linked it for you, but it depends very much on luggage and weather as to how easy it is to walk....

And I would personally go via Dale End, at least in daylight, cutting out at least one busy road crossing.

Accomodation reserved at the Lakeside for Friday and Saturday night.
That does mean I'll have to empty the room by Sunday morning, so I'm toying with the idea of adding another night.

Is anyone planning on staying till Monday morning?

Belated weather report:
Sunny on Saturday, weather deteriorating since.
Umbrella weather today. (Sudden cloudbursts.)
Will check in on the BBC weather long range forecast at some point within the next 24 hours. It may be advisabe to bring an umbrella if you intend to go out anywhere and this weather holds.
Personally I blame the cricket for the weather.... ;)

Food prices warning!
The price of a baguette starts at £5.95 in the bar (the cheap option) in the business school (must be all these rich business types having conventions there, whom they figure won't notice the prices).
It may be advisable to retire to either of the nearby 'on campus' pubs, The Sack of Potatoes, or Gosta Green, for lunch or an evening meal. Both these venues seem to me to be noticeably cheaper than the Business School. (Main courses starting from in the region of £3 - £4.)
If given advance warning (the evening before for the Sack of Potatoes, an hour or two before for the Gosta Green) it may be possible to order a meal in one of these locations 'ahead of time' to make for faster service.
A menu for each of these establishments may well be available at the convention.
Alternatively, the very fit may be able to jog into the city-cntre, grab something there, and jog back during a break between slots.
Not sure if either of these venues (The Sack of Potatoes and Gosta Green) are open in the mornings in time for breakfast though...

Edit:
Checking on the internet, neither venue seems to be open early enough for a pre-convention breakfast. :(

I have posted research regarding buses for the Friday night venue over on the Curry thread on the forums of the PaizoCon UK board.
Basically it amounts to at the moment the 20:13 number 12 bus from Priory Queensway bus-stop seems to be the bus for travel to Adil's.

The Exchange

Thanks for all the scouting Charles.

Not many days to go now!

How is parking likely to be? Will I be struggling to find a space, or will the car parks be relatively empty?

There should be plenty of space. Car park 6 on campus is the best one to use (I've been told).

Okay, at this point the long range forecast on the BBC website seems to indicate to me that they expect Friday night to be dry, but Saturday morning to be damp.
This far in advance, the forecast may be somewhat hit and miss still, and if the Saturday rain arrives early....
Will keep an eye on the site for further updates.

Too much information!

Weather update:
Weather today (looking out of the window) is currently showery.
BBC weather report continues to maintain that Friday will be dry but that Saturday may well be pretty wet.
Those arriving on Saturday be prepared for the possibility of wet weather!

Just to check a couple of things. I'm only going to be around on the Saturday, and I should get to Brummyland by around 1pm ish. I won't have any problems getting in will I?

Also, my better half is spending the afternoon shopping, but if she gets board while I'm gaming, would it be possible to sneak her in a back door some place :)

You should have no problems getting in and there should be no need to sneak anybody in. As long as she doesn't try to play any games!

Scarab Sages

Huh... is anyone else in Lakeside getting a free upgrade to a room in the Conference Centre? Just got a phonecall saying that I'm getting one, as is Ninjaiguana...

I'll see everyone tomorrow! Getting exciting now :).

Bus stop locations for number 12 verified at the balti end (since I was out in that direction on another errand anyway...) ;)
I collected a menu card, so those coming from Aston should be able to decide/discuss what to eat en route, if nothing else...
Oh, and (most important) a large size postal tube obtained from the post office..... :)

Will if she does get bored with Birmingham, I think she' prefer to sneak! The 1yr old that will be attached to her will ensure no game playing though, that is restricted to our home games, good to know though. Thanks.

Yep, I beleive everybody who was booked into Lakeside under the PaizoCon UK name has been upgraded to the conference centre. And very nice rooms they are too.

See you there!

Since you are all going out for a curry tomorrow night, and I arrive Sat. lunchtime, could someone make sure that there is adequate ventilation during the morning!

But seriously, I have started packing dice and sorting figures. Soon be time to give the three scenarios a final run through.

Can't wait to run Decline of Glory and Stay of Execution. And Skeleton Moon may reinforce my prior reputation for killing PCs. Bring spare PCs all coded and ready to go after that little gem.

Happy rolling folks.

Really looking forward to this con. I hope it rocks as much as i think it will. Excuse me if this has been answered already but roughly how many people are expected to be attending it?

I gather on the grapevine that sadly some sort of crisis may have come up which requires Nicolas Logue's attention elsewhere. :(
I am hoping that Wintergreen will be able to supply such details as are available to him if/when he has time.

Sovereign Court

Aww man that sucks..here I was waiting to find out if putting Pett and the Logue in the same room would force us all to make SAN checks.

So anyway it's almost time for me to set off for my 10 hour train ride to Gloucester. Its's at times like this that I realise I really do live in the ass-end of nowhere

Organisers starting to assemble. Rob Silk en route to Aston.

Weather Report:
Sunny with a few clouds.

Further update on Nick Logue situation expected at some point today/tomorrow.

Expecting to see all of you on the curry/balti expedition tonight (albeit briefly).

Just got back from my sole game of PaizoconUK. I had a blast. Thanks again to table 4 this afternoon. It was great fun, and I'm glad Akori got his first outing with such good people.

Nev, no longer the convention virgin.

Made it to the afternoon session, and I witnessed a PC death in the Styes....

Obituary:
Name of PC: Merisiel
Day Job: 'Pathfinder Iconic'
Cause of Death: Poison arrow trap, whilst chasing 'The Monkey' home to the lair of The Organ-grinder
Real Cause of Death: The twisted genius that is Richard Pett

Details:
Alas, poor Merisiel.
Earlier in the adventure, whilst pursuing a two-headed villain, high amongst the rooftops of the Styes, she had failed a balance check whilst tumbling past an unusual variant of fire elemental onto a narrow wooden plank, and would have fallen to a messy end on the cobbles below, had it not been for a fly spell which was still active on her from earlier in the adventure.

Having shortly after dispatched and then interrogated the deceased two headed villain by means of a speak with the dead spell, the PCs learned that they needed to pursue inquiries with a fellow known as 'The Organ-grinder'. Arriving at a market where he was believed to hang out, the PCs were spotted lurking suspiciously by The Organ-grinder's sinister monkey companion, and the villain and his monkey associate split.
Whilst the rest of the party took on The Organ-grinder, Merisiel pursued the monkey back to its master's home, and rather than await the arrival of the rest of the party, Merisiel rashly flung open the front door.
She took a critical hit from a [wyvern] poison arrow trap, failed the save, took nine constitution damage, and the DM then drew a 'bleed' result from the critical hits deck.
Reduced to negative hitpoints, and with her companions in arms still several rounds behind, Merisiel bled out on the cobbles, before her body was kicked into the waters of the Styes for the local marine life to feast upon by the flesh golem that emerged from The Organ-grinder's domicile.
There were only a few pieces left by the time that the rest of the party arrived...

This looked a very fun adventure and it was a shame that it never saw print...
