Just 4 weeks to get all the players organised into games, get the guests into order.... wish it was just a matter of waiting ;-)

The Exchange

Yeah, I am toying with the idea of offering to run Stay of Execution instead of To Scale the Dragon. It looks a nice adventure to DM and hopefully play.

Is anyone interested in that??

Cheers

Sovereign Court

Dear French Wolf

It IS a good one. I've run it three times now and really enjoyed it each time. BUT there are lots of loose ends that need tying up so that you have something to throw at the players when they want to investiate certain named personalities, and the lack of an overall map meant a bit of prep for me.

You are EXACTLY the chap to run it with style and panache.

If enough people are interested then please do run it. I'm seeing slot 5 as being quite open in terms of what is run. So any GMs should feel free to propose a game.

Sorry about the absence of weather report for Birmingham from this weekend past, but I was feeling somewhat unwell.
Ironically, the weather was actually back to warm and sunny.
Ah, the vagaries of the British climate.

The Exchange

OK, I'll prep it alongside Asmodeus Mirage and Skeleton Moon. The Scale of Dragon I'll leave until the end if no one wants in on Stay of Execution.

Cheers - and get well Charles.

PS. For future reference we had rain in Devon today but I still walked on the beach with my son.

No matter the weather, PaizoCon UK will be going ahead at Aston University on the 11th and 12th July. I'm in the process of sorting out players and games. I'll be making provision for some players who turn up on the day but if you want to be certain of getting in specific games (including the guest games) then book now. Those who have already booked, tell us your preferences for scenarios if you have any.

Let's show the US that the UK can also have a fantastic PaizoCon!

Heh, you have my preference in big letters on the back of my booking form, and in an email, so I may as well post it here ;)

I'm only going to be able to make part of the day on Saturday, so the middle (2-6pm) slot is the only one I can game in.....

Thought I was getting better yesterday, but back to the sniffles and annoying cough today. Doctor says it is a 'chest infection' and that the only thing I can do is wait it out. :(

Weather report from Birmingham:
Sunny yesterday, overcast and cloudy today.

Some sort of food event going on in Birmingham this weekend in the square in front of the council house.

Wolfram alpha says 19 days. Also it will be a waning gibbous moon.

Looks like you’ve got the following skill ranks:

  • Climb 2
  • Intimidate 4
  • Jump 2
  • Ride 3
  • Swim 2
For a total of 13, this leaves you with 3 more to spend. Also, Iron Will gives a +2 bonus to Will saves, so you’ll have a final modifier of +1 rather than +0.
Otherwise everything looks about right. (Except the age entry saying she’s 19 and background saying she’s in her early 20s, but never mind…)

EDIT: Oh, and the Chelish speak Taldane too (or some butchered variation anyway). So you need another language.

  • Grand Lodge

Actually I only have 12 skill points(2 +1 INTx4)and my wisdom mod is -2 so the iron will off sets it.

    Is 8 Wisdom a -2 stat bonus? I thought it was -1.

In 3.5 Humans get 4 bonus skill points to spend at first level.

Cheers and see you at the Con.

    Andrina Dunstan wrote:

The others are correct. An 8 stat is a -1 so will save should be +1; humans get a bonus skill point per level so the character is on 4 points per level, which is x4 at 1st level so 16 skill points.

Oh, the damage with melee weapons should be +3, not +2 as strength is 16.

I'd add flint & steel (1gp) to the equipment list so there is a way to light the lantern too.

Hope that's helpful and see you there.

Dooooooh I think I had a series of blonde moments..granted I was creating her at 1.30 in the morning..corrections made and she's ready to go

I am still upset I can't go to this... But at least I can go to Gen Con in the US!

I'm sure you'll have a great time at Gencon, Dragnmoon; you'll be able to hangout with the Paizo staff, and plenty of US Paizo fans. Plus, aren't you going to Italy in two weeks anyway? (I seem to remember you mentioning that!) You'll have a great time there, too, I'm sure!

Italy Trip was cancelled, I used that time off to visit the family when my mother got sick.

While that's a shame you couldn't go there, it's great that you could use the time to visit your mum! I hope she's better now.
Do try to see Italy at least once before you go back to the States.

Sigh, won't be able to come to Paizocon UK this year. Definitely not. I hope next year, but the weekend of the con will be

    a) the first weekend my fiancee will be home from rehab after 4 weeks and a weeklong stay in the hospital before and
    b) a weekend scheduled with a visit to my daughter (though who will visit whom is not yet clear).

Either one of those trumps going to Paizocon in a heartbeat.

    Next year... hopefully next year...

    Quite understandable.

And I do like the fact that a number of people have made reference to PaizoCon UK next year. Fingers crossed that this first one goes well enough that people do want another.

    The Exchange

You know that Lilith had some kind of prize at the first PaizoCon. I wonder if you have given any idea on how to match that? Well not just you, Wintergreen but anyone going.

Or a wooden spoon style prize for the silliest death or something?

    Just a thought..

It doesn't have to be anything major, but maybe someone can think of something clever.

    cheers

    Transport Update:
No engineering works are scheduled for the rail network in the West Midlands area from the 10th-12th July; some delays may be expected on trains late in the day to Northampton on the 13th.

    Bus fares in Birmingham:
    Adult Single: £1.70
    ‘Daysaver’: £3.30
    ‘Evening Saver’: £2.20

‘Daysaver’ in this case being one of those unlimited bus travel in the West Midlands in one day tickets, and ‘Evening Saver’ being an unlimited bus travel in the West Midlands for the rest of the day after 18:00 (except certain ‘night buses’) tickets.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Bus-drivers on many West Midlands bus routes (depending on the service operator) DO NOT GIVE CHANGE.
Convention attendees are advised to come well furnished with pound coins, and 'silver' if a bus trip is anticipated; it should further be noted that the Friday night curry/balti-house expedition may involve bus travel.

I'm beginning to... and even more so once I've got something in writing about a room. It'd be a real bummer to turn up and not have one! The relevant person at Aston Uni has has the last week and a half off, but I should have solid confirmation tomorrow!

It'll be great to catch up with people.

I'm looking forward to meeting people.

Oh, Aston Uni don't seem to send out written confirmation of room bookings. The best I got was an email confirmation but that was only after hassling them.

    Sovereign Court

Really looking forward to the weekend. I'll be staying in Gloucester with Dabbler who I have known online for 3 years now and never met so that should be mucho fun.

it does mean we have an hours commute in the morning but it means my weekend cost me only the con price..I work for the railways so travel is free for me.

I am. Those scenarios are preying on my mind. But I am looking forward to putting faces to names and maybe spotting a few I recognise from previous cons.

Like the US version, I'd like the opportunity to run one game of my own in one slot next time around.

    Cheers

    And in other news....

Indian restaurants across the country could be banned from selling Balti dishes as council chiefs in the city credited with its invention seek to protect the name.

Birmingham City Council wants to help eateries in the city, which it said was the "birthplace" of the popular curry dish, by applying to protect the Balti name.

The bid could mean a ban for restaurants outside Birmingham's "Balti Triangle" from serving a Balti.

The first ever Balti, named after the wok used to cook it, is thought to have been created in the Sparkhill area of Birmingham by immigrants from northern Pakistan in the 1970s.

It has spread across the UK and became the basis for the name "Balti Triangle", given to the area around Sparkhill and Moseley with a large number of restaurants specialising in the dish.

The council claims that Birmingham, as the origin of the Balti name, has the same right to protect it as Champagne and Wensleydale cheese.

A spokeswoman said: "The idea that Birmingham should trademark the term 'Balti' is certainly an interesting one, which is not without its merits.

"The city is not only the birthplace of the dish, but also home to the UK's premier community of Balti restaurants and businesses - The Balti Triangle.

"The City Council is always seeking new and imaginative ways to promote the city regionally, nationally and internationally, which, if judged to be feasible and to the benefit of local people or businesses, we would not hesitate in pursuing."

Any idea how much the Curry and pint will cost around there? Or how we actually get there?

The plan at present is to meet up on campus and then go for the curry. I've not selected a venue yet but it will be at worst a short bus ride away. Not sure about cost at present but it won't be too expensive.

Plus the gentle 15 minute stroll to the bus-stops if a bus-trip is required....

But frankly a gentle fifteen minute stroll in some directon looks inevitable if you want a 'real' curry/balti house and not whatever the on-campus pub happens to be serving.... :)

In case it comes in handy for anyone: *Link to what is hopefully a pdf of a campus map for Aston University*
The Business School (convention venue) is indicated as being location '6' on the version of the pdf that I see as I make this post.

    The Exchange

So those interested in going for a curry on the Friday night, we'll meet outside the entrance to the Aston Business School Conference Centre (the convention venue) at 8pm to then go on to eat.

Hmmm. 20:00 start on the Friday means I will likely be taking my leave, early, I fear, owing to travelling time to/from home.
    Still good luck to everyone.
