I just finished reading the round 3 rules. At first I thought - "holy cow! They have to come up with a whole new villain in three days??" Then I finished reading the rules, and discovered that creating an all-new villain was just an option.
I love the rules for round 3 and can't wait to see what the contestants come up with. Surprising, because I expected to be bored by this round. Nice job, Paizo!

I'm glad to see that the contestants can make a brand new villain.
I do have a question for the new rules element. Can the contestants make some other type of ability than the ones listed? I'm thinking a permanent extra power of some sort, from a ritual or special magical effect.
The Round 3 rules give the examples of "a new feat, spell, use of a skill, or magic item," and specifically disallow "prestige classes, templates, or new monsters." Those are the restrictions.

Looks like Ssyth'ek and Gulga are out of the statting then, eh? Oh well, I've got other plans... *insert evil laugh here*

Yeah, in my haste I skimmed over the whole "You can use your villain" part of the rules... Oops...

The part about no prestige classes, templates, etc. pertains to the "new rules" part. They don't want you creating an entirely new template or prestige class to define your villain. And honestly, with just 300 words, I'm not sure that would even be feasible. Meanwhile, you're free to use existing templates and prestige classes for your villain.
But that's just my two-cents,

No kidding. I didn't advance, but when I was working my villains in case I advanced, I created new rules for them in case this sort of curve ball was thrown. I'm soooooo anguished at not being here.
But I I thought it, maybe some others did. I am definitely looking for perfect stat blocks and some fun, polished mechanics to get my vote(s) in the coming days.
I love the rules for this round. Good luck to everyone in!

Congrats to the lucky 17! Good Job, each and everyone of you. I look forward to seeing these villains' stat blocks. Everything I see and read and learn here (not being in this year) will only help for next year. Best of luck to one and all.

Strange question--I was looking at the "formatted stat block" and it seems to be all run together?
I don't know if that's just the way the link works and the one the contestants received breaks properly, but if the link could be repaired so there are some hard returns in there it would be nice :) I know I'm practicing for next year, and having the stat block is a good way to start.

When I get in tomorrow I can forward an HTML-formatted one for Vic to post, just in case others are having this problem. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how Macs and PCs handle returns in .txt docs (i.e., differently).

I noticed the same thing, but it's fairly intuitive as to where the line-breaks would occur. You can skim through any typical Paizo stat-block and adjust the template to match. Or, at least, that's what I spent last night doing... ;-D

Cool. That would be most helpful. At the very least, I can determine if my adjusted template matches.
Thanks,

I think I remember reading something to the effect that 'Pathfinder Chronicles campaign setting' with the small 'c' and 's' includes adventure paths and other golarion specific paizo products. Am I understanding this correctly? In other words, can I refer to items and feats introduced in adventure paths in my stat block?

Yes. Vic clarified that earlier. If it just said 'Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting' with a big 'C' and 'S' that would mean just the hardcover campaign setting book. But, with a small 'c' and 's' that means everything is fair game that's been published for the setting, including stuff that appears in the adventure paths. Thank goodness!

I'm stunned that there are still text editors out there that don't know how to deal with all three types of line endings. Traditionally, UNIX uses LF [line feeds], Macs use CR [carriage returns], and Windows uses CRLF [carriage return followed by line feed]. But I thought every application written in the last... oh, decade or so had worked out that it needs to pay attention to any of the above.
At any rate, we've changed the line endings (and character encoding). Does it work better for those of you having problems? And, out of curiosity, what application isn't playing nicely?

I just tried to open the link for the blank stat block, and it gave me a string of gobbledygook that wasn't even alphanumeric characters.
That's seriously weird, but I have been bouncing the webservers all day today trying to work out some performance problems with the site. Try the link again, see if it works this time.

((Take Two, the crashmonster got me again))
I originally clicked the link in good ol' Internet Explorer, and had no hard returns at all, hence my original post :) One loooong string, which as Neil said, I can and did try to turn into a proper format for my use, but it struck me as odd and time-consuming for the contestants to have to do that and perhaps goof on a line somewhere (this sucker is long ::laughing::)
The new link in Gary's post is working beautifully! Now I know I, and any others that use this, will have the correct format to play with. Thanks!

One thing I noticed is that the stat block template has fields for Ecology (Environment, Organization, and Treasure), which aren't included for NPCs ever, only for monster manual style stat blocks. Also, the FAQ specifically says not to include treasure. I assume the Ecology section is a copy-paste error?

I'm very much wondering the same thing. Any official ruling on this?
