I'm writing here so as not to clutter up the IC...
It doesn't seem like it's a big deal, but I just wanted to try one more time to indicate what I was talking about. Ali, fully checked out out the skeletons, looking at them, smelling them..etc.
And she was using her knowledge of the Natural World to try and determine if they seemed to be natural creatures or not. She knows they are obviously not animals. Nature includes All living beings, not just animals though, right? So that's what she was basing her ruminations on...
If that's still not clear, no worries, we'll just drop it.
Happy Holidays All!

I was so glad Marak and Ali's actions gave me an excuse to resort to "KILL IT WITH FIRE!" after seeing the new creature's pic. (for all the good that did) ;P
Yeah, some of these powers like Heavenly Fire and Channel Energy can be deeply frustrating at 1st level. Your big attack (or area heal) doing 1d6 combined with bad rolls leads to a lot of 1s and 2s, I find. :)

This is like, encounter four, and I still haven't reconized one of the beasties we are fighting! It's like an old Gygax module, where he invented a bunch of new monsters just for these encounters!
(Creepy, creepy monsters, as well...)
Not knowing what was going on made for much of the thrill when I started playing. My first experience with D&D was rolling up a magic-user and having the DM pick the spell invisibility for me. Then he told me that my PC was standing in the hallway of a dungeon. He picked up the monster manual and said that an invisible stalker was attacking me. One round later my character was dead. I had no idea what I was doing and had a great time.

Yeah, being clueless in my first game did really add to the enjoyment. You never knew what could kill you, or when your friends would.

Well, that's always been the case. A bad roll when turning undead left you SOL. Channel energy at least has two effects. Even a 1 or 2 with channel energy can take the edge off of damage for the whole party, even if it doesn't completely heal them.
And I don't see a limit on Heavenly Fire usage. It's like your own personal short-range bow, which can't be taken away and won't run out of arrows and hits on a touch attack. That's not bad at all. I'd argue that it's too good.

The Thing..whatever it is slumps to the ground and the death rattle sounds in its throat before Romon can even reach it.
does anyone else think I have singularly unlucky in this dungeon so far
Perhaps. I haven't been able to touch the PCs in two combats in my Crimson Throne, barely a scratch. You just have to keep rolling. You'll hurt us soon enough. Or perhaps Romon's right when he thinks this is a particualrly lethal set of characters.

The thing that had me worried was the idea of being able to dish out healing constantly, until I reread the power and caught the once-per-day-per-person bit.
I have to admit having a free zapper is spoiling me though. :)
I'm not sure yet if Muchorak's encouragement was a good or bad thing for Kallie to hear. ;)

I just wanted to be certain, do we get 75% of our hit dice on each level or do we roll? I couldn't remember if that mention at the beginning of the thread was a one-off deal or the standard for this campaign.
I'm taking Protection from Evil as my new 1st level spell. Obscuring Mist is more of a thematic fit, but Protection from Evil is what she's been feeling they've needed the entire time she's been down in those tunnels. Also taking the extra skill point from favored class instead of the hit point.
Celestial resistances at 3rd level too. These bloodlines are nice!
Going back through my skills, I think I have too many points invested. At 2nd level, I'm counting 12 ranks where the maximum I should be able to have is 10. I can't figure out where those extra two points came from, so I'm only adding three skill points this level.

Muchorak looks as the others prepare themselves, they speak of meals, and kalie produces her food basket...his thoughts: How can they see such defeat? Strange indeed are these so called civilized men, fear is in their hearts too deep.
Ohhh, man. We're not scared; we're hungry. We've been down here 3 or 4 hours, and I wasn't able to grab a bite in the bar....

Oops. I forgot about the static hp rolls. Gotta fix that. And I may have forgotten the favored class extra skill point. Thanks, Valkyrie.

My stats should be fixed up now.
Yeah Wellard, I missed that note about how Web needed to be anchored as well. I just expected to drop the quasit in the pool.
It's kind of a moot point now, but I was just wondering about this:
Are there any rules about using cold spells to freeze a body of water? I know polar ray would definitely be too weak to freeze that entire well over, but I was wondering if anyone had ever had that come up, like...ever.
Inikai's magic freaks me out. ;)
Waiting just a bit on my turn since I'm at the bottom of the round, if that's okay. I just wanted to see what everyone else was planning.

He must be quick to speak his mind.
Kallie thinks Inikai must be a sorcerer of some sort. She'll have to ask him about it sooner or later.

No. Teeth might grow from Inikai's scalp under certain circumstances, though.

Did we score any cash on this trip? I don't remember any really. Some cool stuff in the anti-gravity room, but no big cash bonuses.
I (Tom, not Romon, you don't want to leave your money with him) will volunteer to do it from here forward if the player so desire.

It seems that several of us have had some difficulty keeping track of what round it is and/or when our turn to post in that round is. One solution I might suggest that seems to be working well in another pbp I'm in is this: During a battle, when the GM posts, he lists the next three people who are up in the init round. I realize that this may have the potential of slowing things down a tad, but that hasn't seemed to have been the case in the game so far and we've never had any of the posting out of order or missing a post problems as of yet.
Anyway, just a suggestion. I'm still enjoying the fight and the game here either way ;-)

Bill, nice work with the journal. I'm so inspired, I'm thinking about writing one myself in the form of letters to Romon's tutor, Cearnis.
Khaladon, I'd guess boots were on someone's wish list that Wellard collected a while back. Either that or they're cursed and part of Wellard's Evil DM Wishlist[smaller](TM){/smaller].

Thanks. I am having fun writing it. Give it a try you probably will enjoy it.

Thanks, I am glad you like it.
Actually, I was not that pleased with my last entry. It does not seem as good as the others. In the future U think I am going to be less detailed about fights in order to better relect the confusion of melee.
Give it a try yourself. You might be surprised about what direction it takes after you start. The worst that could happen is that we will all mock you with great and fierce cruelty.

Grrr.....I started working on it. For another campaign though. I don't think I could get away with a journal for Kallie without people wanting to strangle me. ;)
Unfortunately, the character I'm doing it for kan barli rit. It might not have been such a great idea to have her right one after all. :)
In-character, Kallie is wavering on what to do with the well. Out-of-character, I do want to neutralize it here and now just so things can start moving for poor Wellard again. Most of the characters want to leave for now, only one is solidly stating we should take care of it now, right?

ROTFLMAO! Thanks Bill!
And I don't know what you're talking about with your journal. The last chapter was easily as mediocre as the rest of it. =D
Seriously though, once again, thanks for a great read and all the time and effort you put into it.
And Val, I for one would be quite interested to read a journal from Kallie's point of view. It should be quite 'unique', at the very least. : ) And I solemnly swear, if it's no good, I shall not mock you anywhere near as cruelly nor fiercely as the rest may. After all, what are friends for? ;-)
Valkyrie Paine |
Hahaha! If Khal had gone ahead with the bite, Kallie would be annoying Inikai and Muchorak for days asking whether or not they were certain she wasn't a lycanthrope.
This is going to be a long night. :)
Wellard, do you want that "dream-and-go-get-your-level-wealth" thing when night falls? If so, I plan on treating Ali. ;)
therealthom |
I was thinking it was later than it probably is. I guess we're going our separate ways for a bit, cleaning up, and meeting up again before night actually does come, then?
I had gotten it into my head that Ali was staying at Kallie's house for the night.
If she interprets the invitation that way, good luck changing her mind. I could see Ali becoming The Thing That wouldn't Leave.
