well, long as you keep stuff coming, I'm content to just wait my turn. incidently, if you ever feel like not colouring my stuff, i'm not gonna ask you to. personally, I'm in awe of your pencil and line work anyhow. so ya. keep the goodness flowing.
edit: hey, look at that! you did my Khopesh too! sweetness. And Starburst turned out exactly how I pictured it.

Lathirra, Morag's boots had been colored black and uploaded at deviant.
When I used to manage a Bottle Shop (Liquor Store for you Yanks), one of the other Store Managers in the chain was named Morag McCrone. I'm sorry but that made me laugh every time I read/heard it. I used to imagine she had a long hooked nose with a wart on it and was crouched over a bubbling cauldron of alcohol, stirring it and muttering to herself. Seriously, someone couldn't come up with a better name for a witch if they drilled into their brain with a special Witch Name Finder Drill Bit on the end!
Lathiira |
Thank you Hugo! And you can bill me for the darkmantles, I always considered them pests anyway.
As for the name, consider the etymology of the name 'Morgan' at some point; there's a relationship between Morag and a certain well-known Arthurian character I'm sure, at least in the names. I admitted elsewhere that I took the name from a book and that this is a modified version of a character from said book because I think I'll have a lot of fun playing the character. First game this weekend!

Nice work, Hugo!

Waiting for a comission on this thread is like being in the bidding section on the price is right, you keep seeing other people go up and win fabulous prizes and you just keep waiting for your chance. Don't you understand I'm not that patient?
lol, anyways the work is awesome, I can't wait to see what you do with kristine.

Hehehe. Well This also means that when your turn is up your stuff "should" be nicer since I got more practice at it!
I'll make sure to make it worth the wait Lastknightleft!
Thanks for the kind words CJ and LKL!

So, I'll issue a challenge to all you artists:
Draw the characters from either Erik Mona's Age of Worms campaign (of which Tyralandi Scrimm is a prime pick)
or
deep in the archives, a character from Jason Bulmahn's Eberron campaign (of which Zulshynn, another JJ creation, can be found).

What, you don't have enough to do Hugo? By the time you get done, you'll have drawn the world and every PC in it! Not that it's a bad thing . . .

Sadly, I fear this is one that you'd have to create based upon the info given throughout those respective threads. I'm sure those who religiously followed Ms. Scrimm's journal have a vivid image of what she looks like...to them.
As for the Eberron campaign, I can only offer up my own character, Visoka Despaxia. He wasn't the most popular character in that campaign, though...that was Mr. McArtor's "Amai d'Cannith".
I offered it up as a challenge largely because SO MANY people followed those tales as they were in progress. It'd be fun to see what folks thought the characters looked like...and then hear from their players how well it depicts the character they themselves played.

Is there a re thread for the AoW campaign? If I can read the character and can pull it out, If not, then its impossible... :(
Lathiira's right. Maybe I'm grabbing more than I can handle... Gotta do something about it...

At no time was I implying you were grabbing more than you could handle. I was joking, nothing more. Your work, CJ's work, Shiny's work . . . every one of the artists who've donated their time, pencils, and electricity has done masterful work. We'd all love to see more of it. It just seems from my perspective that you don't care to be bored, so you take up one challenge after another. For the rest of us, that's great: more phenomenal artwork. Don't slack off because you doubt your ability to get things done. You're on a roll!

Absinth |
Hey folks, in tonight's chat Hugo urged me, to post in here and to show off some art. So, here it is:
Mummy
This is a piece I did for one of my recent campaigns; a mummy-lord that was one of the main villains in the story.
The original is larger, but I only own a small scanner so I can only post a section of the original drawing. I also messed up the scan as you can see on the upper left corner... :-)
I hope you like it.

A neat idea but were they ever described in detail?

Dude, I know I'm already doing some stuff for you and Wes, but I might just have to whip up these and send 'em along in a different package.
Oh, and no dibbies, Hugo! We all could do art for them! Then we'll have our respective art battle in a massive illustrated arena for dominance!

Come to think of it, maybe the callege wasn't the drawing itself but digging up the characters! ;)
I've found the campaign journal, as well as Tyralandi's backstory. I can't remember if either gave appearance, but I do know that Tyralandi's stats do eventually pop up in the Campaign journal. She's also the inspiration for this Dungeon iconic.
EDIT: Stats can be found here.

Hah! I expected this, as you urged me to post! Well, I don't think that I'll find the time to do comissions; I rarely find the time to prepare my games or draw my own stuff. But you should never say never! So, if someone requests an illu for a concept I can't resist, I might actually draw something...:-D

Actually, it's the other way around. James mentioned several times, that he based his character concept on Wayne's illustration.

Found some stuff-- Zulshyn's a female (Eberron) drow barbarian wielding a chain-sword (gotta dig up my Eberron stuff now). Probably hooked up with some of that sweet chitin armor. I'll post an edit if I find out more.
A good place to get some flavor for Zulshyn is in "Secrets of Xen'drik". Jason's campaign was sort of a testing ground for some of the content of that supplement. Specifically, there is some info on the drow tribes in there...like where Zulshyn came from. ;-)

Oh, believe me, the Eberron books are out and open. I'm doing an initial sketch as I write this (well, not exactly as I write this-- I'm not a girallon :P ). I'm also going to dig out the Eberronian drow articles from Dragon; been a while since I've tried to tackle chitin armor.
Hey James, and ideas as to some random details-- height, hair length, and such? If not, we'll probably all just wing it, so it's all good!

First draft of Zulshyn is up on DA; further revisions to come.
RIGHT ON!!! LOL!
However, she actually would skin you and wear you as a cloak...if you were a gorillion.
(This was a quirk that James added to Zulshyn. She'd get this daydreamy reaction when thinking about the beauty and majesty of a gorillion....hide)
Timitius Wayfinder, PaizoCon Founder |
I actually wish I could take up the drawing and sketching again. I've been wanting to have a "final portrait" of our Eberron party.
Sort of a posed shot of Amai, Zulshyn, Adso, Keldrick, Visoka, and the Kid. With the spirit images of Ursula, Sim, and Chuko nearby. Maybe in the public room of the Manticore Cup.
Man, that was a fun game....
The only thing I did that was close to art for the characters was to create some "flyer ads" for the Manticore Cup, featuring Chuko and Ursula. I'll see if I can repost them on flickr.
The Eldritch Mr. Shiny |
Open commission for my character in a homebrew campaign:
DANIEL LOVOTH: NG male human artificer 1 / variant paladin 5 / infused warrior (guardinal) 7
Daniel is a muscular man of slightly taller-than-average height. Due to the nature of his infused celestial essence, his skin is porcelain-colored, his hair composed of miniscule golden feathers, and his eyes a glowing magenta hue. Tiny vestigial wing-buds protrude from his shoulder-bones (does not need to be shown in portrait). Daniel's body is covered from neck to toes and fingertips in interlocked plates of bronze, copper, and gold. Each piece of armor is intricately decorated with Celestial glyphs (+2 full plate mail). Over the armor, he wears a plain silk sash of purest white (Sash of the Lords of Wind), and a massive, flaming sword is strapped to his back (Sword of the Lords of Fire). At his hip is carried a massive, ten-barreled gunpowder pistol (+1 Holy gunpowder pistol, sketches may be found on Hugo's and my DeviantArt pages).
Daniel Lovoth is unflinchingly positive, never wavering in his beliefs that it is the duty of the powerful to protect the weak, and that good shall always overcome evil. While having the tendency to make rash decisions and overlook crucial details, Daniel is good-hearted and loyal to the core, and would give anything to see the forces of evil obliterated for all time.
