I saw the CS at the "flagship store" on Mockingbird; I was kinda low on funds at the time.
I picked up the Beta at the Mesquite Lone Star. It was the last one on the shelf. I live over in Garland by Lake Ray Hubbard; Mesquite is on my way home from work.
LOL now that Pathfinder's hopping, I enjoy the Wednesday or Friday stopoff that was made bitter by Dungeon and Dragon's cancellations.I thought if Lone Star had a book at one store and you requested it at another, they'd hook you up though...I got a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs graphic novel shipped over to my side of town once that way.
OH yeah they'll ship anything around the chain for ya. Used to work for em back in the day. Been shopping with them since `84 or `85. They are MOSTLY pretty knowledgeable. I haven't been out to the Dallas area stores in a while. The Flagship store in Arlington is staffed with Knuckleheads. The OTHER Arlington store is great. I was sick the weekend of FreeRPG. I went in the next weekend to the small South Arlington store and asked the guy if they had any copies of RotKK left. He dropped what he was doing and spent 10 minutes digging in the back to find a copy for me. I think they are starting to come around to Pathfinder. There was a guy looking at the 4e gift set. I started talking to him about Pathfinder and he put the gift set down. He seemed pretty interested. I have no idea if he downloaded the Beta or not but he was gonna give it a look see before he bought the 4e set.

Oh; I did pick up a Complete Mage at Half Price Books the other day. The clerk was like, "so when are you making the big jump to 4e?"
I said, "I'm not really into the whole rebuying thing."
He said, "I think we're of the same mind..."
which half-priced? last time i was in dallas, the on ein arlington had a TON of rpg stuff, and the one on nw hwy was pretty well stocked as well. even the half priced books in dallas put houston's hpbs to shame...

I usually try to get up to the NW hwy one once every week or two.
I pop by Mesquite and there's a new one in Rockwall right by George Bush Highway, I pop in there whenever.
I scored like Skyrealms of Jorune there at NW Hwy last month.
I've never seen a used book store like it before. It's like a dream, where you find all this money or something.

They may have mislead you. The owner doesn't have any daughters, that I know of. As far as I know he only has 1 son. I think one of the older store managers had some older daughters though. I never met them so I don't know if they were hot or not.
Oh I could tell some stories about the owner...but this is not the place for that. Maybe another day.

PS: And if they are also carrying a full line of Planet Stories books you have my permission to kiss them full on the mouth.
Actually, they said they kept getting sent the same volume of Planet Stories so they won't be stocking any.
Phew, dodged that bullet. I thought I was going to have to kiss them ... What's that? Erik said I COULD kiss them, not that I HAD to kiss them? Okay then.
I've noticed in both stores I frequent that Pathfinders are taking up the space that Dragon and Dungeon left. I'm hoping that as that space grows (there are still issues of Dragon and Dungeon there for now) that they'll put other Paizo products. The spaces that the magazines held were actually decent shelves -- visible, corner shelves, not mixed in with a lot of other products. I think Pathfinder got a good niche in the store by default.

![]() |

That's cool about Books-a-Million. They just opened one here in San Antonio. For BN and Borders, it depends on the store. One BN store has a lot of RPG product and the manager of the store knows good product (stocking 4e, Pathfinder, Dark Heresy) and they have a good selection.

Here on the _proper_ side of Lake Washington, Pathfinder is finding a good niche in my FLGS (The Dreaming). Hopefully my pre-ordered Beta will be in tomorrow, and if there's a campaign guide, I'll probably pick that up, too. They're not big on keeping modules in stock, so I might be picking those up when I do my Paizo orders. The owner has spoken positively about the reception Pathfinder has gotten recently.

We are working on the free license language and compatibility logo, and everything will be available for other publishers to review months in advance of the release of the final Pathfinder RPG rules next August.
Thank you baby Jesus! My prayers have been answered.
For now we want to keep everyone focused on the Beta playtest of the core rules.
Excellent! Soon, very soon.

Patriot Games in Sheffield, UK was been keeping the APs, Chronicles and lots of bits and pieces like item cards in stock, last time I looked (around when History of Ashes came out, damn work meaning I'm either not around or too exhausted when gaming shops are open for business). I haven't seen the modules there yet unfortunately, but it's possible they're split up as GameMastery and I just haven't noticed them. They've got a stall at Gen Con UK, so I'll probably swing by there between games and volunteer to run some PFS for them, so we'll see what how they feel about that :).
A friend of mine works at another FLGS (Wargames Emporium). As the name implies they're less about the RPGs, but they have an OK selection and he's a big fan of Paizo product (reinforced by seeing the newest stuff scattered around my house whenever he comes over for a game), so he's been bugging the manager about stocking as much as possible :).

Emperor7 |

Barnes & Noble has not ordered the Beta, and I'm very much OK with that. We do not have enough product left in the warehouse to handle even a "small" order from them, and a lot of those copies would be tied up in inventory or shipped back as "damaged" (it's a softcover book) and thus out of the hands of gamers. We might do enough on the reprint to truly take it into the mass market, but not for this first one.
I believe they get their Paizo stock from Diamond distributing here in MI. They had the Beta listed on their store search last week as 'available 8/20' so we had hope. The search listing is now gone though, so we're scrambling. BN still has the other Paizo stock.
When I pre-ordered my Beta I wasn't sure how my group would react. To say it's been positive would be an understatement.
Looks like we'll place our order thru the Paizo store, AND SOON, but we'll still try to drum up local interest at our FLGS.

I don't go to hobby shops/games stores very often, but the last few times I've gone into the World's Biggest Bookstore [sic] in Toronto they've had no Pathfinder products, but they've had a prominent display featuring Planet Stories books (at eye level) at the end of an aisle.

I used to go to that Rider's when I worked at the Microcenter there at 14 & John R. They didn't usually have the best selection.
The Blue Dragon at 59 & Mound is a nice store, that's where the guys in my group go, when they can be bothered to go buy gaming supplies.
I used to go to a place called "Old Guard Hobbies" at Van D&%& between 15 and 16. Don't know if they're still open.
These days, when I go to the game store (not often, Paizo.com eats up ALL of my gaming budget) I go to Heroes on Grand River in Howell. It's a Comic store, but the recently doubled the size of their store, and most of the new room is for gaming stuff.
I bought some GameMastery stuff there and the guy asked me if I was playing Runelords. He said he was waiting for the whole path to come out before starting.

Now that the Beta is out I can run a demo at my FLGS. We just have to work out the times for it. I'll run Rise of the Runelords using Beta. My plan is to get each player to buy a copy of the Chronicles Gazateer, and get them hooked. I am going by after work to see if they have any copies of the Beta.
Something I just realized, is that Paizo doesn't have a lot of product for players. Most of it is for GMs. Harder to get people hooked when they are players...

One of our guys goes to the Blue Dragon. I'll give them a try. Quality over distance, but it's closer than the other guy's Algonac store. Thx for the info.

it's in corbin Kentucky. they carry WOTC stuff and little else. but the 4e stuff is not saling I have been told.
We ordered 3 sets of the 4E stuff when it came out. 2 of them are still sitting on the shelf... I'm slowly convincing our players to convert to pathfinder (13 this week were coming here to look)

![]() |

I need to get over to the Guardtower, haven't been there this month.
They keep a pretty decent stock of Pathfinder stuff. I may pick up a copy of the Beta for my group *hugs his beta* if they have it. I'm also toying with offering to run a Pathfinder Society group there. When you have panic attacks though, that's a big step.
I'm now closer to Ravenstone and the local comic shops geographically, but the Guardtower feels more friendly.
Gods I miss the Drowsey Dragon.

I haven't been to the Guardtower in few months. Last time I was there the shelves were bare from the Wizard's 3e purge. They did have a goodly amount of Pathfinder.
Now the real question is this:
Do you remember the Drowsy Dragon when it was in the house on Broad St., before the guys from the Soldiery bought it out and moved it to the store on Brice?
It was my game store when I was just a "wee lad".

Is Paizo going to do another print run on the Beta?
I get this feeling that it's selling out.
I might have to take real nice care of mine; might be a collector's item(?)
We will—we're currently collecting data to help us set the print run size. It'll be about two months before we get it, though, and we'll probably sell off the last of the current print run well before that.

Ninja'd! And by Vic no less.
Seriously, Pathfinder Companion is exactly what you want for players. I was very happy showing my group the Second Darkness Companion. A little bit of everything, lots of mechanics but also fluff to help roleplaying.

I am contemplating the same thing but have not settled on a home yet. If you are interested perhaps we should talk as not to duplicate efforts. It might help to combine our efforts.

Here is my report on my FLGS in south Jersey:
I believe that the store is going to be running two Pathfinder campaigns, a Curse of the Crimson Throne Beta test run by yours truly on Fridays, and a (to be converted from 3.5 campaign) run on Mondays.
Despite a healthy order of Beta books, at least ten, the store did not order enough copies of the Beta. They have other Paizo material but mostly Gamemastery material like flipmats, combat pad, etc. They have been ordereing everything that I have asked them to, and I think they are going to be displaying more Paizo products in the future. I can forsee demand and interest building during the coming year as the release of the final rule nears. I am sure that the store will participate in whatever events are put together to mark the release of the final version of the rules.
The store has been very supportive of Pathfinder so far, though the owner continues to think that the store will suffer if 4e falters. FYI: The folks who bring in the most money to the store are Warhammer folks.

Right on; I know I'm just the guy on the street and can hide behind that excuse if I'm wrong, but to me anyhow, it looks like an extremely hot item.

Report from Chattanooga, TN.
I rarely actually buy gaming products, so I'm not exactly a target market or anything...mostly get my stuff from the local used bookstore...good selection of used gaming stuff, though I've never seen a used Paizo product there...hmm...guess everyone wants to keep them for themselves (can't blame them).
Anyway, I was in the Books-A-Million maybe a month ago and it had a small selection of Paizo stuff...a few of the AP modules, but that's about all I saw. They still had a very large section of 3.5 books, however, as well as a small stock of the 4E Core Books. Overall it's not a tiny gaming section, bigger than the Barnes & Noble anyway, which I haven't seen much of anything at.
There are no longer any local gaming stores here in town, though, so no luck with a dedicated game store. I heard rumors of a new one somewhere close, but haven't been able to check anything out for sure yet.

Picked up the PFCS book at Lone Star in Arlington today. The guy that works there that I've been pestering acted all surprised that they had it. It was their only copy left (they apparently had like 3 copies I think he said originally). I think I may go see if the other one has a copy next week.
Anyways hopefully now that this has showed up there, and sold out already, they'll start stocking more product.

KnightErrantJR |

My FLGS is pretty small, so they don't stock much product. They don't have Pathfinder "on the shelves," but with our group playing there on Thursdays, so far they have ordered four copies specifically for people that show up at the store.
Edit: Of course I specifically meant to point out that the people at our FLGS have been ordering the Campaign Setting.

Mine had Runelords on the shelves since it came out, but now they started getting in Crimson Throne.

I only have one FLGS that I frequent and they have converted one of the racks that held Dragon/Dungeon magazines toward holding Pathfinder products. It is pretty small and they have about two of most of the Pathfinder AP adventures (A few have only one copy and a few more have no copies). They don't carry any other Pathfinder products.

Well, I'm over here in Phoenix, AZ. My FLGS (Game Depot) was a little slow on the uptake with Paizo stuff, especially at first. For example, I would have to explain details of exactly which products were available and when, etc. But I kept nudging them, and now they are better informed and stocked. They're still selling out of Paizo stuff too often, but they seem to be gradually upping order quantities. All in all quality (and sales) seem to be winning them over.

bugleyman |

The latter had the 4e core rulebooks on discount for their "inventory clearout" sale. ;-)
That seems a little strange to me. First of all, corebooks are "evergreen" and for that reason tend to be the last thing discounted. Second, they are two months old...unless the FLGS dramatically over-ordered, it seems a bit premature to be putting 4E core on closeout. Finally, I know the hobby and book trades work differently, but is there truly no recourse with such a recently published item?

I generally just skip the middle man and go straight to Lion Rampant but if you don't just happen to own a bookstore then The Harry Tarantula is really the place you want to be checking out for game stuff in Toronto. Interestingly enough if your Worlds Biggest Bookstore then your maybe 3 minutes walk from The Harry Tarantula.

Update from Columbus.
No one is running Pathfinder Society at Guradtower. I was told I'm more than welcome to, but with my panic attacks, I don't know if I could run it for strangers.
Any takers?
Possibly. I am still working out the details of my schedule before I totally commit. I am going back to school and that might eat up some time.
I was going to start a PFS group in town but I was split between the Armoury in Pickerington (which is closer) or the Guardtower (which might be more worth it).

Well right now I don't have a FLGS. However I did hit the Rusty Scabbard in Lexington, KY for free RPG day this year and they had a few modules and most of RotRL. I picked up River Into Darkness, in addition to RotKK of course!
However I am working in Corbin right now so maybe I can drop by BaM or something. Still the hour commute is killing me.
Oh a new store just opened up in Richmond too. I think it's called comic oasis or something like that I might drop by there this weekend and see what they have.

By the way, I find this thread HIGHLY illuminating. I encourage everyone to keep spreading the word and to keep posting reports of store visits here in the forums.
I love hearing about what is happening with the products after they leave our warehouse!
Thanks, guys!
I was at my FLGS just last night and ran a friend of mine bought the last copy of the Beta and the Campaign setting though the people at the store said they have more of both coming in on Tuesday. We noticed the same t hing about the way 4e books vs. 3.5 and Pathfinder books were arranged on the shelves, all of the 4e core books were on side shelves and on a circular display rack, with a few in the front of the store on the WotC display and the 3.5 and recent Pathfinder stuff and Gamemastery and PF modules were displayed face out on the main shelves where anyone walking by could get the full view of their covers. I will be getting my copy of the Campaign setting this Friday (already have my beta). We also ran into three gamers when in the store in the D&D section who shared our opinion that 4e just wasn't it and of course we showed them the PF Beta and talked to them about PF for a while and they all sounded like they were going to become customers. I know no gamers in my area who are switching to 4th edition D&D and the number that I know that are going Pathfinder/3.5 is steadily increasing as time passes.
