Hehe, I knew that'd be next. :D
In both cases, it's the aftertaste. I can pile sugar into coffee until it's more a solid than a liquid, and put so much milk in it's barely even off white in color, but that bitter aftertaste is all I"m left with.
The only coffee flavored thing that doesn't make me cringe is I believe Kahlua is in black russians. That was yummy.

Coffee is gross.
I used to think that, but after a while, coffee became necessary to keep going during a long day. After a while you get okay with the taste. The caffeine surge is nice. I try not to drink it tooooo much just to keep the tolerance low so when I do drink coffee it'll give me a good boost.
I used to think that about beer. Then after a party one time, there was a case of coors light in the fridge, after drinking it one a day after evening classes, I can drink any type of beer now. Start with one of the worse, everything else is then decent. ;-)

I spent two years in Japan. Every town or prefectural event I went to served nothing but Japanese mass produced beer. Trust me, I've experienced the worst beer. Doesn't make other beer taste any better to me!
:)

Oh cool, I've had a few of the Japanese beers also when I visited in Japan (visited Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Tokyo). The beers weren't that bad. I actually enjoyed the different sochu drinks that I tasted there too.
Were you teaching in Japan?

You remind me of my brother in law, he doesn't like the taste of sweets and always skips out on desserts. It took me a while to stomach the taste of coffee. Now tea on the other hand, been drinking that since I was a wee lad, all those years growing up at dim sum restaurants serving tea. Though there's this one really bitter tea that I think you'd like then, they normally served it late in the evening after dinner (My only experience of it was in Hong Kong, it's translated name from cantonese was bitter tea... yeah, yeah, descriptive, eh?).

Will Auris and Shaleh be alright at 3rd level? I don't imagine you guys have gotten too far ahead since we last joined you.
I think you'll be OK. The group is mostly 4th now, so if you have time this weekend you can level up; otherwise 3rd will be fine.
Auris - You've been drafted into the army of the Marquis d'Ansac, who seems to be rebelling against the crown. Because you've no skill at light cavalry maneuvers, they've handed you a pike (which you ignore in favor of your chain) and they're trying to make you participate in massed infantry maneuvers -- the other infantrymen keep getting in the way of the chain, and there's no enemy in sight anyway, and you think the whole thing is incredibly stupid.
Shaleh - You know that in warfare there's great opportunity for profiteering, so you casually made your way into South Province (technically across enemy lines) and into the Marquis' capital of Sovalles. There, it quickly becomes apparent that the Marquis' castle is deserted and ripe for robbery... which is how you find yourself silently observing as a group of people whom you recognize dispel some kind of magical alarms and make their way into the cellar just ahead of you...

Afterall warfare is great in dealing with my favorite currency.... information rather than all that heavy gold stuff.

Did a Tattooed Monk update for one of my players, comments are welcomed.
Looked at it last night! I'd taken a different track with the monk base class, so that all the tattoos can be simulated using ki powers and sutras (the tatoos would be flavor text, in that case) -- the base classes are intentionally modular so that prestige classes aren't needed.
But although that's my personal preference, it need not be yours -- if the player feels "more special" with a prestige class, rather than with base class options, then there's no harm in providing one as you've done, and a lot of benefit in terms of player contentment. Certainly I don't see anything unbalanced in what you've made.

Thanks Kirth. My main concern was making sure it wasn't a no-brainer PRC like Abjurant Champion and Radiant Servant. I wanted to give her alternate choices without giving her everything the monk gets anyway. So now she has the option of some different, and sometimes stronger abilities (15+level SR instead of 12+level) in exchange for a BAB and HD hit.
I dropped the Ki power and Strike progressions mostly because she was confused by it just a bit. So I figure this will be more along her alley with the unarmed damage and simpler sutras. She has hardly any 3.5 experience, so I'm having to explain a lot, and this will make it easier for her to follow.
I also wanted to make sure her abilities didn't become useless as she added more monk levels once she finished the PRC. Hence why a lot of them say character level.
I'm still not even sure full HD/BAB is too much for the class. Hence why I tossed it up for you to see. If I get squirrely and do any more conversions, I'll link them to you.
Me and Cyz are still planning on being there tonight. Just have to update characters and pack things up. And I haven't forgotten about the Kobold Quarterly I promised to bring. See you tonight.
I'll grab some sodas from the commissary on the way out too.

In that case I think you've made exactly the right choice. Modular classes can be a lot of fun for experienced gamers, but they're needlessly confusing for relative newcomers.

![]() |

Precisely what I told her when the game started. 'I have these other updated classes, but you probably don't want to start out with them. The 3.5 monk is a good start, and when you're ready you can upgrade.' So that's where we are now, and she had mentioned she liked the look of tattooed monk. So I had time to write it up yesterday. I adjusted the prereqs a bit with the idea of fighters getting a chance to dip into it as well.

Thanks for having us again. Considering it only takes one tank of gas for the round trip, and the schedule we have for the next eight weeks, we will try to come down every other week. May as well take advantage of the opportunity while it lasts. It's a real pleasure to be getting back into Auris' boot- er, feet. :) Hope to see you all again the 29th.

Sounds good -- thanks again for coming. We'll likely be playing using the 2nd group of (lower-level) PCs at that time... I'll keep you poseted on developments and how to work you into the scenario; shouldn't be too hard to do.

General Kelth |

Had I survived the conflict, I should have this to say:
Rather than despise the late Marquis, Aujoule d'Ansac, we should remember him well, and learn the lessons he taught us. During the Days of Darkness, evil walked naked over the land, and none were safe. In repelling the seige on his castle, the old Marquis, Maurice d'Ansac, was infected by a fiend, and became one himself. His son, Aujule, could not allow harm to come to the people he was sworn to protect -- but nor yet could he bring himself to destroy his beloved father, who had raised him alone from childhood.
For thirty years he searched for a cure, and, having believed that one was finally within his grasp, he overreached... and thereby brought a tragedy upon us all. No one is above the law; no matter what their personal circumstance -- and what can be forgiven in a commoner, a high noble should know better. Must always know better. Lest ultimate destruction overtake them, as it did both father and son.

Kirth Gersen |

You're all present when Daressa, with regret, destroys the old Marquis with her sword Allam.
Alanna, one of Pep's mates, mutters, "He should have known there is no cure; I could have told him that from personal experience." She appears to be weeping.
But, the thing is, the explorer Larquest found something -- something for which d'Ansac was willing to commit murder.

Sheraviel sniffs disdainfully, then coughs as she realizes that may not have been a good idea so close to Kullen.
"I-::cough:: er, I had evaluated the situation, and saw no ::hack::- my god, does it not rain where you hail from?!? There was no sequence of events I saw that did not end in battle. Delaying the inevit-::choke::" Sheraviel takes a step back and wipes her watering eyes. "Delaying the inevitable only opened up more chances for us to be spotted by further patrols or unable to prevent the escape of one of the horsemen and draw the marquis' eyes our way. Could you stand a little more downwind? If one ran, his superior horse would have nearly guaranteed his escape."

If need be we can set it up so we only come down on the weeks you're playing this group rather than the other.

You guys should come when your schedule permits. Having a second group of PCs to switch over to occasionally is a lot of fun.

Our schedule pretty much permits us to come down every week from the 29th up to June 1st. :) We just don't want to wear ourselves and the new car out driving down and back every Monday. But at the same time, I know I won't get the chance to do this once I go back to work, except on four day holidays that fall on Monday-Tuesdays. So we figured we'd take advantage of the opportunity as much as possible. It's just all up to when you guys want to run with Rim and Sheraviel and the rest of the gang.

Totally understandable about the frequency of making that drive. Whatever works for you guys.
Next week (and probably a few weeks after that), we'll be playing the other group of characters we've rolled up.
- I play Jazeed, the cowardly cleric.
- Derek plays Fiachra, an elven mage.
- Jess plays Trog, a filthy street-urchin/monk/Fiachra's possible familiar.
- Silverhair plays Virac, a half-orc-but-we-all-think-he's-human Runeblade, which Kirth wrote up in the rules.
Lots of niches to fill for that group.

Kirth Gersen |

We could come up with alternate characters as well if that will work better Kirth.
Sure! If you wanted to make a couple of 2nd level characters, then we could work you in for any week you wanted to come, without difficulty -- you wouldn't need to coordinate your travel with our adventure progress that way. A ranger or barbarian (using the rewrites) sure would be nice...

Jess Door's Trog |

We'll take a look. If I can remake my Scout with the Ranger class, I might not have a problem with it.
Edit: Looks like Falandar is coming out of retirement. :) Unless I decide I really want to play Ardelaneu again...
