Dude! It works!

The Exchange

Wow, I am quite late to find this post in the forums.

I'm from Houston too, North West side, by 1960 and 290. If you ever need players or want to play in a session, drop a line. Usually, we have slots open. Usually.

Pleased to meet you! You might also check out the Casual Play In North Houston thread.

I just broke down and moved Responsive Duelist from feats to fighter talents. It's just too good to be left to anyone or anything who wants it (including monsters...). For Sheraviel, it's a wash -- she traded one of her talents for a feat earlier, now one of her feats is a talent, so she breaks even.

I can be talked out of it, maybe, but it'll have to be pretty persuasive.

Um, well, it's already on my sheet and my eraser broke?

;)

And, my knowledge check:

The only consideration is, is there any class that should have access to it that can't?

Paladins aren't a base class, so that works out okay.

How about Bards? Rangers? Should they have to multiclass in fighter to get the ability to be a duelist?

And then the Rogue.

I don't mind barbarians missing out. I could see some flavor of cleric that might like it, but don't have a big objection there either.

How do the subsequent feats work? Are they talents too? Or are they still feats that require the initial fighter ability to take?

The exact mechanics of this will have a large effect on my levelling. :)

Rangers can get it by picking the right combat style. Bards and rogues would be the big losers, I guess -- and I don't mind them getting it, to be honest, so that point alone might make me reconsider. Thanks!

I checked on that right away, and most of them actually work better with Improved Weapon Maneuvers as a prereq rather than Responsive Duelist anyway -- so you'd be OK in either case. ;)

I was thinking specifically about monsters -- do you really want a cloud giant to be making AoO against you every time you attack it? That's the kind of thing that might happen if it's a feat, rather than a class feature.

So, with that in mind, I'm happy to have a vote -- as the DM I'll abstain -- all in favor of keeping it a feat? All in favor of making it a fighter talent? Abstaining?

On the subject of fighter talents, my elven fighter has been roleplaying his 'keen elven senses' as it were, playing up the 'connection to the fey side'. So I told him he could take Breach Sense as a Fighter advanced talent if he wanted. Just thought I would share.

That seems like an excellent ruling. I'd do the same thing -- the talent lists are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Yeah, I'm on the fence myself. If it's a fighter talent, maybe it could be a rogue or bard (skald?) talent. Or maybe it shouldn't be a rogue talent because they've already got sneak attack. I feel worst for bards - I think it fits with bard swashbuckling quite well.

I agree -- I'd like to see bards be able to get it -- even minstrels, maybe. I'm certainly amenable to adding it to the bard lore list, and will do so if the vote to make it a talent passes.

Bard lore? Did I miss something else?

TriOmegaZero wrote:

Didn't I send you our bard class? With traditions (minstrel vs. skald) and talents? The bard's level of "no one wants to play me" compared to the wizard and cleric in Pathfinder is fairly extreme, so we revamped the class.

Grand Lodge

I don't recall seeing it, but if you just want to send everything you have again, I won't complain. :) I know you've made some adjustments since I got them, and I'd like to have the up-to-date houserules on my iPad for Monday.

Edit: What would be even easier is if you just went to the Files section of the Google Group and uploaded them there.

There is also a regular group that plays in the Pasadena/Clear Lake area. Our usual DM is setting up a regular recurring game day here at paizo so soon you will be able to search the "find a local game" function here and see it. I believe he is setting it for a recurring 1st Saturday of each month timer. We also try to get a second less regularly scheduled round in when its convenient for the group at large.

Before I put them up on Amazon, does anyone want any of these books?

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting
Underdark
Faiths and Pantheons
Races of Faerun
Player's Guide to Faerun
Champions of Valor
Champions of Ruin
Magic of Faerun
Lords of Darkness
Rules Compendium
Urban Arcana

TriOmegaZero wrote:

Magic of Faerun is sure tempting... how much are you asking?

P.S. I think Derek is all into that FR stuff.

Grand Lodge

No more than $5 a pop. But really, between friends, I don't mind giving them away. I honestly just want to free up shelf space and reduce backbreaking labor the next time the military moves me. Which it will. We're supposed to move to a different housing area this year so they can tear down and rebuild this one. So really you're doing me a favor, and I feel funny charging money for that.

Gah! I have all of these already!

Heh. Tell you what -- I'll trade you 14 homebrew classes and 1,000+ homebrew feats for one used copy of Magic of Faerun.

Post 'em to the files section and you got a deal. :3

Sorry Sharoth, but if you weren't such a consumer whore.... XD

~cries~ I know. I am weak! So very weak!

Hey, TOZ, I am missing the Races of Faerun and the Player's Guide to Faerun. I would not mind snagging them from you. Just tell me the price plus S & H and I will send it to you. ~sighs~ I am missing Magic of Faerun too, but Kirth has already called dibbs on it.

Damn, I really would like all of those FR books (Except the CS, Faiths and Pantheons and I think Magic, I have those I believe), but my wallet is a bit thin ATM.

:(

HD, want to add to your debt? Toz can I put in an order for the Faerun books? If you will be there Monday I can pay you then. Hey add Underdark to the list.

Posted bard and a copy of the ranger (apparently I can't edit docs, only add them). The new ranger shows the correct favored terrain progression, adds some new feats and talents, and has minor revisions to some of the talents and combat styles. Enjoy!

EDIT: Hmmm... looks like the bard is OK, but the ranger loaded as all text, with no formatting. Weird. If you want to update the existing file and delete the text one, swap out the favored terrain progression on the main table; add the Bear Wrestling combat style; add the Devoted Tracker and Practiced Tracker feats; swap out the Archery, Swashbuckler, and Mobile Skirmisher styles as shown (the latter because I've altered the Skirmish feats; I'll email you the new versions).

I'll take a look and see what the problem is. I don't know why it is giving you trouble.

For the books, I do not need to bring Rules Compendium, Urban Arcana, FRCS, and Faiths and Pantheons, right?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Did not have a problem with the ranger file. Deleted the old one.

TOZ, You can bring all the Forgotten Realms stuff. What Derek or Erik don't take I will. Just let me know what I need to bring cash wise.

Silverhair is a sucker for game stuff. Offer him a crateful of 3rd party ripoffs written in 2.5 edition rules for a campaign setting no one's ever heard of, and he's all over it.

One of the things we love about him.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

Hmm. *looks at bookshelf* I DO have some purchases I kind of regret. And I could use some extra cash...

Let's limit the edition to 3.x, shall we? Though no 4e.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook Subscriber

No worries, I only play 3.5 anyway. Sold my 4E set on Amazon barely a month after I bought it. I'll see what there is I want to keep from all those 3rd party materials I have.

Realize as I am near retirement age I am on a fixed income and have limited funds. Although you cannot tell that from my tags on Paizo boards.

Is it live, or Memorex?

Keep up that attitude for tomorrow night, gents -- it'll serve you well!

Kirth, Virac took 1 rank in both Craft-Leatherwork and Craft-Blacksmith.

For all the humans that carry on about this 'katana', I find it no better than an ordinary longsword...

Well, it does a little more damage, and is masterwork. :)

I'm still waiting for Fiachra to make me some gator boots! :D

So I've decided on a couple other things to get rid of. Villians, a book of BBEG NPCs, and Doom Striders, a book of giant mechs. I'm also going to be going through my Sovereign Stone campaign setting books and deciding if I want to keep 'em. Let me know if you're interested.
