Back again! Something we need to discuss ...
“A sack, to lighten one’s burdens.”
I think we already have a bag of holding somewhere. Even if we don't, do we need one?
Correction: We do have a Type II bag of holding.
“A ring, to shield you from the rains of the Waste.”
I think this might be an endure elements style thing, but it doesn't help us right now.
“An amulet, to harden skin like the armor of a tree.”
This is good, but do we need better AC's, especially as soon I'll be able to make these myself.
“A circlet, to smite foes with the fire of the sun.”
Sounds like a Crown of Blasting which we could probably use.
“A cloak, to ward you from many threats to mind and body."
We have cloaks of resistance already.
Thoughts, people? If no-one has any preferences, Eltariel would select the circlet.
BTW, we have 2400gp in the odd platinum pieces, and 140 worth in the gem. Does anyone specifically want the necklace of adaptation?
DM Wellard |
I found this on the discussion thread for one of chris' games..it's an e-mail from him which explains why we have had no post from Gashelle since before Gen Con.
I wanted to drop this note to everybody in the campaign whose email addresses I could find: I have tried posting in both the PbP campaign and campaign notes threads, multiple times each day, for the past week. Those threads are either "temporarily down" or else the thread eats my posts. (I post to the rest of the boards well enough, although they collapse regularly, too.)
This is terrifically frustrating. If Paizo's web team can't fix the problem, I suggest moving the game to another enviornment. (Contrariwise, it might just be an issue with my internet connection...)
Now I can run Gashelle as a DMPC along with Avinar but we are less than half way through this adventure..given Chris' absence, and Khaladons reduced posting rate resulting in a slow down of this game to almost glacial levels and a feeling from me that it is no longer really engaging people I want to know which option you favour.
1)We end it here..allow the thread to just wither away in the Limbo of the archives.
2) we continue with me playing Avinar and Gashelle as NPCs..
3) we ignore Avinar and Gashelle perhaps having them go back to the upper levels and guard and concentrate on the 4 off you who are posting.
3) we find replacement players and hope this speeds things up a bit..the problem with this is that there is very little logical sense in having changes in the party make up at this time.
Dabbler |
I'll vote for continuing with them off searching the upper floors or this one for further clues. That way they can rejoin if they show up. If we get to the end of the adventure, though, we may wish to engage other players.
Khaladon |
Hey still here, though yes, will not be as often as priviously for the oment. I'm happy to continue on as I want to see what happens at the end of this adventure.
As for the other two, I'd be happy with them as NPC or off in another area, both options work for me.
Bill Lumberg |
I am of the same mind as Aude in regard to the adventure feeling like a random assortment of rooms. Also, I have never been able to really get into the character of Holgur, so to speak. And my posting time has been cut down an increase in some work responsibilities. With that, I will have to bow out of the game.
I hope you all continue and enjoy the rest of it.
DM Wellard |
You are 6th level with 17355Xp
You can keep all the stuff you found in the palace but if Layjiani wants to lose the ring and reset her alignment thats ok by me.
I really am feeling bad about this guys..it seems I picked the wrong adventure for this party...I guess competition dungeons should be left as that.
Khaladon |
Certainly no need to feel bad on my part either Wellard. I was quite enjoying it as well and was very much looking forward to seeing how it all turned out. But of course everyone's mmv in Any dungeon or adventure.
I will take advantage of your offer for Layjiani to lose the ring. Or maybe even better we can make it so they found a way for her to remove it or take of the curse and Eltariel could use it? Or we could sell it?
So Dabbs, are you up to making a loot list for this dungeon then? Pretty please? : D
Dabbler |
Actually that didn't take so long:
From the etin & ogres:
Goods, gems, jewelry total Value: 4581gp
Magic Stuff:
Crown of Blasting
necklace of adaptation
a pair of lesser bracers of archery
belt of Dexterity +2
Potion of Heal
a container of alchemist’s fire
a vial of antitoxin
a small tube containing some Dust of Appearance
potion vial (unidentified)
cloak (unidentified)
Bracers of armour +1
Gems, Jewelry & Coin:
a cinnamon-colored tourmaline (140 gp)
In pouches are a collection of gems worth 45 gold
small orange-red stone - carnelian, 20 gp
12 pp however closer examination reveals the coins to be an alloy of Mithril and Platinum and could be worth 200gp each to a collector. 2400Gp value.
537 gold, and 9 silver
Total Value: 3142gp 9gp
Plus:
Ring of Centrivus
The Ring allows its bearer to use mending at will and keenedge once per hour, both as a 9th level caster.
Once per day on command, the Ring can create a set of masterwork tools or masterwork instruments related to any Craft or Perform skill in which the wearer has at least 1 rank, causing geometric patterns to flare and fade around the band. After 9 hours, they disappear. They also disappear if anyone but the wearer tries to use them.
Dedicated to Centivus the Shaper, this minor artifact grants the bearer a +4 sacred bonus to any Craft or Perform check as long as it is worn.
While we can't use this directly, could Eltariel copy the enchantments into her own ring (her arcane bond she can enchant without feats)? We can then sell this to fund it ...
Khaladon |
Great List Dabbler, Thanks.
And whatever you want to do with the list, and we are allowed to do, is fine with me.
Out of all that stuff Layjiani would mostly be interested in the bracers of archery and belt of Dexterity. Also possibly the Heal and Antitoxin as she doesn't cast any of her own spells.
Wellard can we know what the other vial and cloak are?
And after you take whatever you want for Eltariel Dabbler wadda ya we sell and split the rest?
Dabbler |
Don't forget, Aude may also want a pick. That said, the bracers of archery and the belt would be ideal for Layjiani. Other than the Bracers of Armour, there isn't much there that Eltarial would have her eye on except the ring if she can avoid the alignment switch. Still we don't know what the cloak does yet <grin>.
DM Wellard |
Ok I've put out a call for front line muscle and a skills monkey..we might need a clerical type as well if Aude leaves us..are you staying Robin?
Kelvin., It will take months to analyze the enchanments on the ring..and mending at will is a possible game breaker in a long term campaign.Remember this was a one shot dungeon and a competition one at that. I have another two such but they are designed for 15th level plus characters..so I may never use them.
Dabbler |
That's OK, I am looking merely at copying some of the effects (perhaps in a lesser way) rather than making an exact duplicate. I'll put together what I'm thinking and paste it up, and you can assess it. On the subject, I'd like to make some spellcraft checks to learn some more spells.
Alarm DC16 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Repair Light Damage DC16 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Resist Energy DC17 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
Glitterdust DC17 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Sonic Weapon DC17 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Lifebolt DC17 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Flaming Sphere DC17 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Plus there are probably others I'll want to get a crack at given a chance (these are just the ones I didn't get last time around!)
Dabbler |
OK, here is what I have in mind for the ring:
The Ring allows its bearer to use mending at will and keenedge once per hour, both as a 9th level caster.
How about Repair Light Damage 3/day and Keen Edge 1/day?
Once per day on command, the Ring can create a set of masterwork tools or masterwork instruments related to any Craft or Perform skill in which the wearer has at least 1 rank, causing geometric patterns to flare and fade around the band. After 9 hours, they disappear. They also disappear if anyone but the wearer tries to use them.
How about a set of tools 1-2/day?
Dedicated to Centivus the Shaper, this minor artifact grants the bearer a +4 sacred bonus to any Craft or Perform check as long as it is worn.
How about Magecraft 1/day for a +5 bonus on Craft (specified) checks?
I'll have to buy and learn Keen Edge and some other spell ... how about one I research?
Summon Implement
2nd level
School conjuration (creation); Level wizard/sorcerer 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range touch
Target self
Duration 1 hour/level
Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
You summon a set of tools to hand for a specific Craft skill. You can use the tools, or summon them for another person to use in your stead, but they vanish if anyone other than the intended user takes them up. The tools are masterwork quality and confer a +2 bonus to the craft check in order to use them.
You may also summon a masterwork weapon to use. In this case the duration will drop to 10 minutes/level, and the masterwork weapon arrives with 20 rounds of ammunition if it is a missile weapon.
Kegmar Krausenbrew |
Kegmar gets in just because I'm interested in the way a dwarf will change the party dynamic.
That's from the recruitment thread, if that's a spot, I'll hasten to finish 'Keg right away.
Any requests from the other PCs that I can entertain in completing the sheet? I'll scan this thread for HP rules, etc.
Kegmar Krausenbrew |
Ok, I see the following details from scanning back in this thread to 2008...
* The standard 2 starting traits aren't used. I'll axe those, although would the feat that gives 2 traits be allowed, if someone was so tempted?
* HP was 75% of max per level, so for Alchemist (d8) that's 6/level.
* It looks like the sub-races of Wilderlands were used. I have the Players Guide, so shall I assume we can use those subraces? For Kegmar, the Kazadaran (Mountain Dwarves) called out to me... shall I/can I set my land of origin to Thunderhold?
Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, or it changed in the last 2 years.
Khaladon |
A dwarven Alchemist, cool! Welcome Wakedown
And hey Scranford, welcome aboard mate!
Note: Wellard, I think we have skill monkey pretty well coverd though with Layjiani yes? With our two heavy hitters gone we really could use some more muscle and I believe we're still a little light on arcame power, unless Scranford is covering that?
Kegmar Krausenbrew |
I haven't been on the PC side of an alchemist yet, but Kegmar should be able to handle some of what an arcane caster normally would with knowledge, spellcraft skills and ranged bombs.
There's a little boon in fast alchemy crafting of inexpensive cure potions if Wellard allows time and all the rules as written...
Kegmar Krausenbrew |
Got it, you threw me off with the "adding to arcane potential" comment, then!
I went back through the game-thread, I realized I've actually read the first several pages of this PbP before.
It sounds like the remaining PCs are Eltariel (wiz/dru), Layjiani (rgr/rog) and Aude (cler) with the possibility of Gashelle (dusk)?
Definitely sad to see the threesome of Eltarial, Avinar and Gashelle broken - amazing RP there.
You look solid on skills (rgr/rog), arcane (wiz/dusk) and divine (dru/cler). Fredrich (scranford) is a great front-liner, and hopefully Keg can fill in on some melee and small gaps in the arcane/divine/skills (hey there's always aid actions on skills).
Eltariel Elessand |
We don't know quite what's happening with Chris (and by extension Gashelle) but with no posts in a while we are assuming the worst. Without her Kegmar is a useful inclusion for a bit of arcane expertise. Fredrich looks like an efficient fighter, which is what we really need most of all without all our combat classes, and I don't doubt Kegmar is no slouch in a fight.

Wellard sometimes has internet problems, but I can give you a brief run-down of the salient events.
The previous party arrived in Tarsh from the hinterlands and embarked on an exploration of an outlying ruined castle, at the centre of which was a pristine tower surrounded by a blue aura that repelled anything from touching it, and was apparently haunted by a mischievous spectre.
They found an underground complex and managed to shut down the force field around the tower and enter it, laying the ghosts to rest. They then received permission to set the place up as their stronghold in return for their fealty to the Archdruid of Tarsh.
When unseasonal weather threatened the harvests, they were sent north to find the unnatural cause, which they apparently did ...
DM Wellard |
We'll also have Aron joining us as a Monk so the fast slot previously filled with Avinar should be covered.
I'm not sure we can continue the scenario as is unless I have a bunch of bewildered characters swap places with the current ones..the swirls of chaos and all that..but it's up to you guys I'm happy either way
Robin..are you still in?
Dabbler |
I would recommend we draw a curtain over it and start back at the stronghold. Avinar could have heard word of his father and left to find him, taking Gashelle, while Holgur returned to the sea ...?
Then the remains of the party can look for new help around the castle initially. Or we could run into new friends on the road home somewhere ...
