No. Not everyone. The clerics and I are behind you. There are about 150 clerics at this point because Mr. Gygax seems to be playing a little joke on all of us from the great beyond.

Maybe once we get up to 200 clerics we can cast some sort of mass miracle and revive the old man himself. See? Gary always knew what he was doing.

Wow, this post has run for so long, Unearthed Arcana has come out...

***rolls for Comeliness***

Com 11...

Sheesh, I can't win...

~casts "Cure Light Wounds"~ Does that help?

Animate Dead. There, all better.

Str 14
Int 11
Wis 12
Dex 14
Con 12
Cha 10
Human Fighter. Like my very first character in the early eighties.

Thank you Gary Gygax.
For everything.

~smites the Kobold with my heavy mace~ By Pelor, how dare you create undead here! ~a good hard tap to the kobolds skull, followed by another~

Great, that is very funny little gecko. You destroyed another of my nice headstones. For that, you die.

Str 9
Dex 10
Con 14
Int 5
Wis 9
Cha 10

I guess I'll be playing a retarded weakling dwarf fighter, Man thanks for reminding me how much this rocks, I'm not at all screwed over from the get go.

A very tough wizard maybe. Or a mediocre halfling thief.
Thanks for everything Gary. Next game it's roll 3D6 in order for my group.

Method III seems to be the best "fit" to the thread though...

Okay, let's go with Method III then.... I'll start by taking the first two sets of six I rolled and apply them to STR and INT:

STR 12 (11, 12, 11, 6, 3, 11)
INT 14 (10, 8, 10, 14, 13, 8)

And then I'll roll for the other four abilities

WIS 11 (11, 6, 8, 5, 3, 6)
DEX 10 (4, 6, 10, 4, 9, 7)
CON 13 (9, 12, 10, 6, 9, 13)
CHA 18 (9, 8, 16, 12, 11, 18)

D'oh! This close to pulling off Paladin - short on the minimum of WIS 13. Maybe my DM will let me fudge that one... no? sigh What a waste of an 18 CHA...

Oh, man... I'm just off by one stat for Druid (WIS is too low) and Assassin (DEX is too low) too!

Ooo, I know. An Elven Fighter/Magic User (Adjusted stats: DEX 11, CON 12).

Say hello to Tashi Goldenharp, a small, attractive and smooth talking package who can kick your butt equally well with sword or with sorcery.

Okay, Jade. More good news. You can have Bob here. Just throw him at anything that looks like it may have reset after killing the thieves.

Great so everyone's dead but me and bob? Well... a two fighter group with unimpressive scores. So long as this is a CR-1 dungeon, we'll be fine. <:)

Sorry, but the devil face got me. Another offering to EGG, character destruction in the Tomb of Horrors.

Wait, we weren't going there? Oops . . . .

Guess I'll need to roll up another character in the morning, huh?

Okay, I better get to re-roll that one.

Not a chance - this is a pretty sweet character, be a mage.

Human, Rogue........... looks like i will be the one keeping people out of the 50ft pit traps = )

Could be a thief but this is a really good mage. Lots of bonus spells, bonus to XP.

This character cannot be a magic-user in 1st edition. With a Wisdom of 5 or lower, the character is only allowed to be a thief.

Formally, Barbiarian as a class appeared in Dragon, then Unearthed Arcana.

Before that you could just declare your fighter to BE a Barbarian, but it had no real effect on play.

Hmmmmn . . . a Hobbit Cleric/Thief?

Thanks to Gary Gygax & all the old-school geeks out there!

I have all my original dice as well. They're... magical to me.

Well, I wouldn't allow them to be tossed into a river of lava. That's for sure.

Let's see how the old dice do. Maybe I'll last a little longer.

Do I qualify for ranger? We need more warm bodies up front.

(And why don't my dice roll like that any other time I'm making a character? I think EGG's spirit was in them.)

There are folks out there who like to list the probability against rolling up six all-18 ability scores. In all the bazillion characters I've rolled, PCs and NPCs, there have been a few times when I've rolled all 18's. It's like a hole in one followed by a hole in one followed by a hole in one, but it does happen.

Still a cleric. But I'm more agile this time... Maybe I should get a sling or something and join the Artillery Squad. It feels good to see the size of the thread and all the tributes to Gary across the Net as a whole.

Fitting that the Collateral Damage Guildmaster rolls a cleric. I'll need to be one to patch up my guildmates blowing themselves up with everything around us.

Yahtzee baby! That's amazing.

Never seen it happen, but I have recently seen a guy roll six 20s in a row, and during a rolemaster game I once rolled five 100s on percentile.

Yeah, baby. That's what I'm talking about. Those rarest of times when the dice roll nigh impossible results you feel like you're witnessing true magic.

I was rolling up some pregens for U1-3 in response to this thread. I was going to allow better than normal characters: roll 4d6, drop lowest, six times; arrange as desired; sacrifice 2 points from one stat to raise another by 1, cannot reduce a stat below 10; maximum starting hp; UA, DSG, and WSG rules in effect.

My dice were possesed or something. First set of rolls: 18, 14, 15, 11, 17, 15! For six characters (36 rolls), I ended up with 2x18, 5x17, 2x16, 9x15, 4x14, 3x13, 6x12, 4x11, and 1x10; every single one had a 17 or 18 for the highest stat and at least 3 rolls of 14 or higher. The first character became a paladin (cavalier) with 18/52 Str, 11 Int, 14 Wis, 15/32 Dex, 15/15 Con, 17/94 Cha; rolling on the social class table in UA gave me 88 (Lower Upper Class), which let the paladin start as a 1st level cavalier with plate mail, shield, lance, longsword, dagger, a medium warhorse, and 70-180gp. Then, for the other character with an 18 (a ranger), I rolled a 98 for percentile Str. The rest of the set includes a cleric of Xerbo (Suloise deity of sea, travel and trade; main temple in Saltmarsh), half-elf druid (with two guard dogs), magic user, and gnome illusionist/thief. What a powerful bunch.
