I....don't know where the whole "monks suck" schtick comes from. They're pretty badass.
There's a fairly substantial thread somewhere on why the Fighter is such a terrible, terrible class. All I can say is, dudes, have you seen Hudak or Stig dish out pain??
Seriously, it seems like our game threads disprove every complaint from those so-called 'authorities'. Why anyone listens to them is a huge mystery to me.

uh oh....reading the Demonweb book.....sez you can't summon anything into Sigil.
If you go there you guys are screwed. ;)I think I'll deepsix most of that planar "magic is all f&%%ed up" jazz; too much weird s@~* to remember.
Yeah, a lot of the Planescape / 2nd edition ‘magic is screwy on the planes’ stuff was simplified in 3.x anyway as I understand.
I kinda like the rationale behind you can’t summon stuff into Sigil though. The Lady of Pain runs a tight ship.

The people who make those sort of posts are obviously not playing the same game that I am.
They are listened to because there seem to be a lot of people who do play their way, and because they can ‘mathematically prove’ that their opinions are fact.

Who's this guy?
I think their general response to us is that we aren't playing right. I also think that they probably are just eyeballing these things and have done very little maths at all and even if they have they use such simplistic methodologies its all a bit meaningless (one character v one character, using save-or-die to judge the mathematical probabilities so it hinges off a single save). Funnily enough, when Hudak slaughtered three ogres on a single round, when he wasn't even standing next to any of them, I did think, "Hmm, so fighters suck, right?" We are at the level where magic-user superiority is less than that vaunted for later levels, but even so, he couldn't have pulled off that trick in 3.5.

+1
Although I do allow 'minor' summonings to occur in my game. The LoP in my conception doesn't mind a fiendish ape or two, but when you are attempting to port in devil after devil after devil ...
Whalp, then she shows up in all her non-statted deus ex machina glory

For which one Justin Case is VERY grateful! ;P

Oh,....and my aunt told me about the "How to Serve Man" twilight zone episode when I was 10. I'd been trying for 20 years to catch that episode on sometime; they used to play Twilight Zone on PBS back in the day, I finally had to buy a small dvd collection of TZ's just so I could see that one.....

The Pett cometh!
Hey Heath and Patrick I have been lookign for stuff on Yggdrassil or however you spell it. Can you point stuff out to me please?
+1 on the Demonweb stuff. Also Planes of Chaos and the Dead Gods adventure from Planescape has a bunch. The main box of Planescape also has a bit.

ogay.....re: Monkey Grip.
Normally (in 3.5, I think in 3P too)
using a larger weapon (i.e. a medium creature using a large weapon)
takes a -2 penalty to attack, and the weapon is treated as 1 size category higher; i.e. a small weapon is one handed, a one handed is two handed, and a two handed is just too damn big.
With MONKEY GRIP there's still a -2 penalty, BUT the weapon size isn't upped i.e. small is small, one handed is one handed, and two handed is two handed.
So it's doable with monkey grip, with a -2 attack penalty.
The damage with the big ass great sword is 3d8.
DOOO EEEEEEEET! DOOOOOOO EEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

Which reminds me I still need to stat up Cungas the Kabuki Cannibal.

IDK; they nerfed the summoner; you can only have either your eidolon or a summon monster spell running. ONE summon monster spell.
But wizards can have like 4 going. They get to summon stuff......AND fireball stuff. I don't get it. I guess it was all the whingers in the playtest.

![]() |

Don't Summoners get "spell-like abilities" rather than spells? If so, I can see why they can only have one summoning spell at a time - otherwise they could summon more or less unlimited numbers of monsters. But EITHER the eidolon OR a summoned monster sounds kinda lame.
Still, the class I'm most juiced about is the oracle; that class sounded so cool.
This fight and its attendant treasure has also inspired me to create a monk with a ki focus greataxe sometime.

dungeonmaster heathy |

They get like 1/2 level + abil mod summons per day or something, in addition to a limited set of spells. And the summons last 1 minute per level.
IDK....I mean, a wizard can summon as much shit as he wants, as can a druid; they only last a few rounds but what do you need them for? To vacuum the rug? Sheesh!

dungeonmaster heathy |

APG prestige classes....
Battle Herald (advanced knight)
Holy Vindicator (pious warrior)
Horizon Walker (dimensional scout//wanderer)
Master Chymist (Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde type alchemist)
Master Spy (espionage expert)
Nature Warden (boucoup animal companion)
Rage Prophet (barbaric champion/embraces otherworldly powers)
Stalwart Defender (replace stalwart with dwarven; you get the picture)
there's some feats and new spells as well;
for wizards, there's elemental school types, and "subtypes" for the extant schools i.e. "creation school" with an association for "conjuration;" that sort of thing....
I really haven't had time to read the whole book yet, so I'm working on it, but go wild with it; I'll catch up. I think using the damn thing forces me to learn it all better than just reading it.

![]() |

Ogay. As I don't get any feats on this level, I'll just take another level of wizard. I rolled a 3 on hit points, put +1 to INT and skills go in the usual spots. My new spells are Beast shape IV and the old chestnut Disintegrate.
BTW, the Rage Prophet sounds great for Gittik, with all his spirit totem experiences.

dungeonmaster heathy |

heh heh...
I think it'll be about a week before everybody's leveled and bought copious gobs of ornaments for their Yule tree, so no hurries; there might be a spell or two that whets your whistle in that APG; I'll make sure you get the chance to kill people with them in their spellbooks also.

dungeonmaster heathy |

By the way, Heathy - you had a look at the 4e Dark Sun stuff yet?
I don't think I'll be able to even buy it for a few months; kinda having financial crunch fun time at the moment.
The next thing I'm going to buy will be the Bestiary 2, so Dark Sun might be kinda off on the horizon for the nonce.

Trust no one, especially the Crimson Jester, some say there's tentacles hiding under that fleshy outer skin.
Slithers away to cook.
There is not!
*pushes stray appendage back under fleshly exterior*
It's just something special for the ladies. And I am completely trustworthy, just ask any of my thieves guild members or FAWTLites!

Guys, I think I'm going to have to drop out of this game. Having had a number of occasions where I have had pauses, and given the ferocious posting rate on this game, I'm really having trouble following what is going on and have had for a number of months. I don't want to drop out but Gittik has been NPC'ed more than he has been played by me in the past year or so. I really feel like I've been hanging on under false pretenses.
Unfortunately, when time is short I really have to look after my own games as DM. So, while it will be a wrench to not play in the mad world of the Heathmeister, I think I will have to concentrate on them instead.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Actually, since Oso bailed I been thinking....
my main game is like a supersonic transport, but I could run a secondary slow boat to China game; Oso, Gittik, maybe Riese (cos fakey's really not around as much as the good ole days....) when he comes back?
No big rush, if everybody's quitting anyway, there isn't a hurry to make a decision. Plus I just thought of this 5 minutes ago, so it's not like I have an adventure picked out or anything.

I am too.
Cheers and all the best Aubrey. I hope that the "management" haven't got their eyes on you too.
Doesn't matter too much if they have. I got a new job yesterday and once the paperwork is done I will chilling for my three month notice period.
