The appeal is likely that in PBP where attrition can be a regular thing, you decrease the risk of losing a key element like healing or trap skills, if remaining players can "double-up".
It also allows the game to go on without having to potentially stall while waiting for recruitment/selection of new players. A Gestalt game can survive with 3 players, in some cases even 2 with the right balance.

To be honest, in my experience, the initial posting rates for a PBP are usually quite high. It really doesn’t impress me that things are clipping along after a week. Anything else would concern me about the long-term survival of the game.
That said, I truly hope it continues.

Sorry to have to ask this question but is there a way to block someone so that they can no longer send you PMs I am being harrassed by one of individuals within this forum and I would like it to stop.
I have stated to them not to ever contact me again but I was hoping to make that secured by simply blocking them or putting them on ignore. Or some such.
Thanks for the help, and again sorry that I had to post this.

Thanks DM Azure_Zero
I think I might have found it -- as I was copying off the series of PMs in case this gets weird I noticed that you could Block Sender (its a link towards the bottom of the received PM) and I am hoping that effectively stops their harrassing PMs without disabling my ability to use PMs and further I am hoping this does not spill over into the forums as they stated they have been on this forum for 10 years so probably have a lot of folks whose ears they can bend with falsehoods.
No big surprise though, I seem to pull these kind of false friendly folks out of forums like a powerful magnet pulls nails out of pile of dust.
Still I will be hoping for the best and thanks again.

@Dejoker- There is not a way to individually Block a specific user. Please send me a PM with who and what is happening and I can push it up through Paizo on the Org Play side.
You can also email Paizo through the contact us link below with what is happeninga nd they can look into the harassments matter.

Please send an email to the forum moderation staff in the Customer Service department
community@paizo.com
Give them full details, and they will take care of the problem. That garbage isn't allowed on these forums

Late to this and hopefully this matter has been resolved by now, but absolutely please do this (this goes for anyone who receives harassment, whether openly on the boards or in PMs). My experience is Paizo staff are extremely responsive to those kind of concerns and absolutely do not tolerate that kind of behavior. And yes, you can block specific senders as you discovered, but still please also report it.
I'd also screencap any concerning PMs and save them in case you need to protect yourself later.
As for changing threadnames, yes, after the hour edit window is closed you can't. But you could also email Customer Service and ask them to see if the web admins can change it for you.

This is a pretty minor PBP complaint all things considered, but I do wish people would stop creating "player wish" posts. We all understand that there's a big ratio of players to GMs--GMing is a lot of work! So threads that are just a bunch of people volunteering themselves as players in a hypothetical game (while all declining to run such a game themselves) are just clutter.

Maybe one time in fifty (if that), someone volunteers to GM, which is enough of a success rate to keep people doing it. It's comparable to the odds of finishing an AP on the boards, and we keep applying to recruitments and crossing our fingers that this will be one of the ones that goes the distance.

When I was younger I fantasized about getting paid to GM. I think that’s a great opportunity for GMs now. Supply and demand: get paid.
What would be cool is a website (like Healthgrades or Avvo) where GMs could advertise and be rated by players. Maybe some entrepreneurial web person reading this will do that.

There are definitely pay to play GMs listed on various sites. I've seen them on Roll20 and some places advertising Foundry games as well.

Back when I still had time to run some games, I had players on the boards offer to pay me via Patreon to continue running some games. Knowing that my time available would only shrink, I opted not to take money for a commitment I could not fulfill.
I wonder what the pricing structure would be to even pay to play RPG's. The bulk of DM time, for a quality game anyway, is spent before the game starts, not while you are running it!

Hello old friend, hoping all is well. I'm curious about this as well. I think it would be better with some tools like a light virtual table top (VTT) to enhance the feel whether it's Play by Post (asynchronous) or session/meeting based.
I'm curious what you feel might help you in this endeavor... I've been mucking about VTT vendors of late.
For everyone else - Storyteller Shadow is one of the best! Hands down!

For what is worth, I stopped trying the GM's that wanted payment. I tried quite a few and only 1 was decent.
What I have been doing is using the ones that have the option of giving a tip for a good experience. I've tried 4 of those and only 1 was a poor GM. I gave the other 3 a $5-$10 tip.
Not sure if that is an appropriate amount, but it seemed reasonable to me.

What was the mode of play? VTT, in person, PbP?

I'm speaking of VTT on Roll20.
