Could you tell me why 'eater' made you cringe?
That's hard to say.
It's a word I've never seen used to describe someone (and I've read a lot in my 37+ years). Other than maybe beef-eater (i think it's a restaurant) and there's an old TSR game that has the "Eater's of Wisdom" (which I actually like). Also some people say to their children, "You're a really good eater." But that makes it a kind of baby word not taken seriously. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't find it in any published Wizard's product.

Yes it definitely wasn't any kind of grammar error or misuse of the word, it was just an 'odd' word choice, which in this case makes sense. Where are you from BTW? I have to say I was rather surprised that 2 of the top 4 were people from countries outside the US. I've traveled a LOT and never met anyone outside the US that played or even knew about D&D.

I am Dutch. 3 of the remaining 4 are native speakers, for Christine English is a second language (not that you notice).
Well, here is mine.
Gloves of the Badger
These gloves are most often made of supple, black leather. The fingertips are made from a hardened material and have the appearance of tiny claws. Although the gloves seem to have claws, they are not usable as a weapon.
When donned, the gloves bestow upon the wearer a burrowing speed of 10 feet per round. The wearer is then able to tunnel through any kind of earth such as sand, dirt or clay but not rock or stone. The act of burrowing does not create a tunnel, and the wearer cannot charge or run while within the earth. Both hands must be free to in order to burrow, and both gloves must be worn in order to benefit from the effect.

I am a newbie GM/player. lots of GREAT ideas for wondrous items for my home game in this thread, such as these gloves I am totally going to use these.
However I am curious, since these are "losing items" is there terrible flaws with them, or rather just another entry was "better"?
Also for a very newb question, is the listed cost of the item (such as these gloves of badger), the creation cost, or the character buy price?

Took a quick look, and I'd say these are a decent magic item that could be in a book of magic items, but there's not that spark that would have said to the judges that the designer was someone they wanted in the contest. (Which isn't a reflection on the designer, necessarily -- lots of Superstar contestants get in one year but not another meaning sometimes their work showed that "spark" but other times didn't catch the judges' attention.)
In this case, I'd assume they felt it was what they call a "Monster in a Can," which is basically giving the PCs a monster ability.
Note that you can find something similar in Ultimate Equipment with the special armor ability delving, which grants the wearer a burrow speed of 10 feet. This speed allows the wearer to tunnel through any type of soil, including rocky soil, but not actual solid stone. This special ability does not give the wearer the ability to breathe underground, so he must hold his breath or use other magic that provides air or allows him to breathe. The wearer gains a +4 bonus on all saving throws against landslides, avalanches, tunnel collapses, and similar effects.
This item was from the first year of Superstar, which Pathfinder was still very new (maybe not even officially published yet?) so some of the mechanics were wrong. I'd say 12,000 -- maybe 10,000 even, which is what the armor special ability costs -- would be a good price (what characters would need to buy it in a shop) for something of this nature, meaning it would cost half that to craft it themselves.
