I WAS a full-time ren faire freak for a while. Don't knock it till you try it, friend. The community is tight and takes care of its own, as well as its a lifestyle that taught me a LOT about how the real world works.
... 'course, now I'm in the Army.

In my free time I am a cartographer and I am currently testing the waters for freelance work. By testing the waters what I really mean is I have a big toe partially submerged but nothing more.

So...would that make you a guard or a linebacker? ;-)
From wikipedia:
"A side midfielder is placed at left or right of the midfield and expected to support the full back and assist. David Beckham is probably the most famous example of a side midfielder, recognised as an expert crosser. Side midfielders are often skillful dribblers, using the benefit of the byline to beat players. They also play with versatility, capable of playing as wing back or as wingers, supporting the attack. The side midfielders must work up and down the line and create attacking moves and help the full back."

Basically, I'm close to being broke. Not a good thing when one is trying to save up for college.
Actually, it can be a good thing. The closer you are to being "working poor," the better your chances of obtaining a Pell Grant. Once you pass the magic, "I can't eat but I still make too much" line, you're screwed.
Of course, if the current legislation banning funding to educational institutions that refuse to crack down on filesharers goes through, you can forget scholarships...

Struggling fine artist/illustrator. Current day job involves dressing up as a hot dog and handing out fliers. At least, that's the job I'm trying to get. There are a few more qualified candidates and competition is fierce.
You'll get it, as you are the biggest weiner I know! :D
I am an Ex-carpenter/Warehouse manager/shipping coordinator/Data&Voice technician/computer salesperson who has been a stay-at-home father for 4-1/2 years so far.

Currently trying to get some menial job in a law office as a step towards a career in law.
Hmm...if only you knew one or two lawyers with an interest in gaming that you could appeal to...
As for myself, I'm an E-6 journalist in the US Navy currently writing out of the public affairs office of a Naval Hospital. I read a survey a couple years back that indicated that the top two least trusted industries in the United States were the government and the press. I may be one of the least trusted men in America.

Why? Because we have almost painfully normal daytime jobs? (Well, most of us - Chris West being one of the exceptions) What would you expect our jobs to be ? Full-Time ren-fair freaks? Stuntmen?
Or why are we a sorry lot in your eyes?

You just have to know how to phrase your job description properly.
For example:Training children for gladiatorial combat.
I have also written several RPG articles, Which helps in being able to create a colorful job description like the one above. ;)

Financial statements auditor for one of the Big Four auditing firms.
[threadjack] When I was in school it was the "Big Eight" auditing firms. I do recall that Arthur Anderson ran (or should I say "Enron") into some legal difficulties a few years back.

I'm always surprised by how many law enforcement/military people play D&D, as it seems to go against the "you'll fall into devil worship" mantra my 3rd grade religious education teacher emphasized.

See, that's where the complicated part sets in: I *ahem* still live with my *cough* parents, so I don't qualify for a grant (my father makes a royal assload of money). However, said immediate family blatantly refuses to give me any sort of academic funding. At this rate, I'll be thirty before I have a year's tuition. I actually qualify for a few scholarships due to my high SAT scores, but they're peanuts compared to tuition prices. They wouldn't even pay for books.
