Anybody else got any unreasonable fears?

Anybody else got any they'd like to share? Is there something out there that fills you with completley illogical fear?
For me it's wasps, hornets and yellow jackets. When I see one fly past me I kind of freeze and shiver. Why I don't know (although it may have something to do with the fact that I stepped in a hornet's nest last summer).
Heights also mess me up. I get all dizzy and feel vaguely queasy.

Birds. Not all of them, just parrots. They're like having a malicious 2 year old around that can exert 75 pounds of pressure per square inch with a bite. And they fly. And don't get me started on the weird way they sound when they talk. Spooky.

I am afraid of my Aunt Emma. The woman is like 86 and moves about as fast as a legless turtle, yet she scares the bejeesus out of me

Grand Lodge

Sea cucumbers.

Fear, itself, though I suppose that may well be reasonable.

I got stung by the same yellowjacket 5 f#%#ing times. Then I started getting really shaky and itchy. I told my father, "if you find me lieing on the ground unable to breathe, I got stung by a yellowjacket 5 times, and I'm having an allergic reaction, so that's what to tell the paramedics."
He looked at me and said, "Wow, that's the bleakest thing anybody ever told me."
So I said, "yeah. Think I'll go take a shower. I'd be embarrassed; I'm kinda dirty."

Spiders and ever since An Inconvenient Truth there's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.

I gotta get off the east coast because I think some big is about to happen involving a lot of water very quickly. Somethings aloof...

Heights, but I can still manage a modicum of propriety.

I have a general fear of women--it's not overwhelming, just a constant buzz of mistrust and discomfort. The fact that they're nice to look at and (usually) smell nice makes for a great inner conflict.

I have a tremendous fear of replacing those wax seals on toilets.

Spiders...

Although it has gone past fear.

I have come to realize that Yoda was correct.
"Fear leads to Hatred."
And we all know what comes next...

And yes, I have now developed an irrational Hatred of spiders.

I know a lady with a parrot -it's one of the most cunning and evil creatures I've ever met. It can make noises that actually hurt your ears. It 'fools' you into coming close then will try and bite you. It swears and quotes annoying tv shows.

The poor creature got like this because its last owner tormented the thing and its current owner has children -so they taught it the bad language. Shame really. It's bad enough having birds in cages, even worse to make one into a nutcase.

I also kind of fear/hate spiders but try not to because its not their fault they're creepy, evil, predators that would bite and paralyse you then drink your dissolving insides as they stare at you with their lidless black alien orbs... but I digress… Um… They are sort of cool though and I suppose the one from Charlottes Web was nice. Anansi is interesting and enjoyable too. I just wish they didn’t freak me out. Maybe its genetic memory left over from when arthropods were the top predators and hunted/ate our mammalian ancestors? *Squeek!*

I don’t fear any other bugs (I actually care for some as ‘pets’) which is weird.

Maybe as a child something spider related happened to me that I can't recall now like in that film.

Actually these things are terrible and I would SO go completly DALEK CRAZY with the EXTERMINATES! on one if it came anywhere near me.

Poor, poor mouse. :(

I have to say centipedes are way more awful than spiders..........poor spider...:(

You could start with Paris Hilton, Britney etc Keep a blog of your work etc, could be fun?!

That was tragic, like watching a once lauded boxer take his last punch.

Still black water at night is scary -even more so when you wade out into it and something brushes against your leg! :O

Ferris Wheels.

Creepies hiding under my car or in my back seat, though don't think that's too irrational.

Republicans. Zing! I'm kidding, mostly.

No real "fears", more like a "fear" of being surprised (which doesn't happen often).

I'm OK with spiders if I notice them. If they make me aware of them (ie, sneak up, walk into a web, etc), that's when I have a problem. I was walking on a trail in Litchfield Park (a rainforest in Northern Territory, Australia) and a group said "Watch out for the spider." I'd already seen some the size of your palm and though "Yeah, right, how am I going to see them?"

I turn a corner and there was a big web and an equally big spider (lock your thumbs together and spread your fingers out, that's how big it was. Of course, initial shock but still under the "cool" impression. I took a pic and walked around the web to take a pic of the other side. Just as I was ready to hit the button, it scurried down the web. Now keep in mind, Australia has 7 of the 10 most deadly spiders. I ran.

my unreasonable fear is ants. They scare me to pieces. Maybe it's the fact that one of the rooms in our house is infested with them, and I'm constantly afraid that they are going to "discover" my bedroom. (oh the horror)

The sudden, uncontrollable, and irrevocable loss of all gravity on this planet.

Don't ask. I have no idea. It's just been there since I was a kid.

Plus, werewolves, blood in extraordinary quantities, and small towns in the rural South.

You sure it's not small towns in Maine?

Centipedes give me the heebie jeebies. Don't know why.

High winds. Specifically, hurricanes and tornadoes. My apocalyptic nightmares are about tornadoes coming down all over the damn place. :\

That's why I live in the northwest, I guess. Gimme volcanoes and earthquakes any day. Just keep the wind calm and reasonable please. :)

Spiders. Horrible. I can't even look at a picture of a spider!
(Stupid #@$%* drider. Dang *%^$#@* ettercap. How come they cant put in no pictures, like with the monterous spiders?!)
I also hate yellowjackets. once I got stung 5 times when I stepped on a nest accidently. It was in our garden! How was I sposed to know??!!

Skunks frighten me. I have had some unnerving experiences with them. But fearing skunks is not irrational.

My irrational fear is of Bette Midler. When I was a young boy and not yet interested in girls I found her a little scary. Now, as a grown man, she terrifies me.

The only time I actually have an strong unreasonable fear is when I'm reaching into hole or other dark place and I feel something moving that's not supposed to be there. Be it wet and chitinous or soft and moist, I usually freak out.

Couple that with your hand's natural desire to be in an enclosed dark space and you've got a real conundrum.

QFT.

Ever since I found out that there's a "Goofy Gravity Master" at the Earth's Core with a switch controlling the world's gravitational pull, I just can't sleep at night. Just knowing, KNOWING, that he might get it into his head to pull that switch....

I've worked a lot with dogs and what really amazes me is that nobody is confessing fear of big canines. I've seen a great many people who s$+~ bricks when a big unleashed dog strolls up to them.

I have a fear of dog slobber -its gross.

Dogs are really terrifying, but I don't think that's an unreasonable fear, some of them look scary. Of course I'm the one who always hears "Wow, he's never bitten anyone before"

An unreasonable fear I have is tests. I took my mid-term last week, and it took me three tries to get my hand to stop shaking enough just to write my name. The teacher was lucky I didn't have to breath into a paper bag through the whole thing.

You'll have to find me first.

By the way...

I'm in your house.

Don't turn away from the monitor... I'm right behind you...

Coming up slow. What a delicious looking neck you have.

I don't think I've ever been in Maine.

There have been far too many small towns in the South, though, that have left me numb with terror. I dare anyone to spend a night in Derby, Mississippi and come out of it unscathed.

Ever since Katrina, the stronger the hurricane is the more I laugh at it. I think a week and a half in hotels and not knowing where to go left me unhinged. :)

Huh. I grew up in Nebraska, and had many a night growing up of being woken up so we could go sit under the stairs for an hour or two. Wasn't scary though...just annoying. Now, if a tornado actually would've hit us? Oh yeah. I'd be afraid. Yet, I recall standing out in the street once and watching a thin twister touch down, go for a while and go back up. My thoughts were: Cool. I hope it doesn't come this way....

I have a fear of spiders, too. And it is because of TWO (like I only needed one, thank you) instances. First, my dad told me to go pull leaves out of the window wells. I'm doing that, and suddenly a HUGE wolf spider jumps on my hand and sprints up my arm. Thing was the size of my kid-sized hand!

Second, I was playing with my Star Wars figures in this little area under a bush (roots and stuff made it look like Dagobah, I guess) when I come across this strange, soft little pebble. I rip it open, and...100's of little baby spiders come out, all over my hands.

(shudder). Those recounted, I am a bit better these days. As long as they don't surprise me, I am fairly calm.

I don't know what a modicum is, but I don't like the sound of it.

Amen. At least I'll have a great view when the Cascades decide to get all violent and fiery.

Something changing in my life.

It is so great at the moment. House husband. beautiful baby boy. walks on the beach. Swings in the park.

I'm definitely on an up and that means a down is round the corner....

Until then I should just smell the roses.

Cheers everyone.

These are scary.

I don't really have a "fear" of dogs, but if one surpsises me I jump out of my skin and being around loud ones makes me uncomfortable (yes, you may make avatar jokes).

My fear of heights is odd, I have no problem with airplanes but being in an enclosed and perfectly safe skyscraper freaks me out.

Bugs don't scare me, but I sometimes have nightmares about being covered in them, so I don't like them to crawl on me usually.

My main irrational fear is tomophobia. I am not squeamish, I can watch gore-filled zombie movies with the best of them, but when House sticks a scalpel into someone I have to leave the room. I hope I never need surgery. The anasthetics better be f##&ing good.

some of my friends tease me a lot and say I have a completely overdeveloped sense of fear and dread of Lightening; doesnt seem irrational to me though.

Right now: spiders. Big f~**ing time. And I have a mild case of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Which manifests itself in this case as "NEED TO MAKE SURE IT'S DEAD." I've lit spiders on fire., doused them in glue, ground them into powder, diced them, microwaved them, and electrocuted them. And afterwards, I'm still not one-hundred percent positive that they're dead.

Also, up until I was about fourteen, I had a completely irrational fear of mummies. I finally got fed up with it and forced myself to stare at a picture of Ramses III for two hours. Afterwards, I was completely cured. It's still probably one of the wierdest things that's ever happened to me.
