I'll wait for the AoO's before acting. Come on Berekiah/Shariv nail it.

Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1

Shariv's razor flashes once more, and a jet of blood spurts from the neck of the prone saurian.

Attack: 16 (crit range), confirm: 12 + 8 = 20, 2d4 + 2 = 9 damage

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 / Fighter 4 / Exotic Weapon Master 1

Seizing an opening as the raptor attempts to stand. Berekiah swings wildly with his chain, harmlessly striking the ground next to the raptor. Overbalancing, he leaves himself open, and the Raptor takes full advantage, at it hits him savagely with a claw. Although it is far from a fatal wound, it still cuts deep.

Now I've "only" lost half my hitpoints.

Oh, and I rolled a one on my AoO if that matters (I hope not).

Well, if this were my house game, there'd be a roll on a critical fumble table... but we'll just call it a miss, since I didn't specify that we were using Critical Fumble/Hit results. Although the GameMastery Critical Hit deck is pretty cool....

Melani steps to Berekiah carefully.

"By the glory and the light of healing to give life strength!"

Convert resist energy to cure moderate wounds, 2d8+4+7=18pts of healing.

The wounds will close and the dwarf should be invigorated to win this fight.

Both of Shariv's tosses hit the mark, with the southern raptor now seeming even more unsteady after taking another hit.

Roaring in saurian rage, the northern raptor whirls and attempts to eviscerate Berekiah through his dwarven mail. Talons, claw, claw for 36 points of damage

Melani, Xer, Rauno and Berekiah are up next. Both raptors are looking pretty beat up at this point.

One down and three to go. Xer is up next

Getting more frustrated by the second I listen for the saurian for a moment as I nock another arrow and let it fly with a shout of "Gorram it, DIE ALREADY!"

Miss chance 55%
Attack 8, never mind

Good one, Jayne.

Thanks. I've watched a lot of Firefly in the last week so the vocabulary is wearing off on me. And its so very quatable.

Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1

Talking is a free action, right?

In the midst of battle, Shariv bursts out laughing. His high, raspy bark nearly drowns out the raptor's squals of pain (mixed in turn with Xer's curses). There's just something rather surreal about the whole situation.

The merc twirls his razor, licks the blade, and leaps back into the fray.

Male Elf Wizard 1 (0 xp)

Rauno has obviously found his battle pace, stepping back once more to level his bow at the ferocious raptor. His shots this time focus entirely on the beast, perhaps indicating the archer's concern for taking the thing down quickly.

Just a Full Attack this round--hope these hit because that's some nice damage!
Attack and Damage rolls (1d20+12=22, 1d8+6=14, 1d20+12=27, 1d8+6=9, 1d20+7=23, 1d8+6=14)

Berekiah looks to finish off this raptor once and for all.

He lashes out with his chain at the Raptor, seeking again to pull it from it's feet. Establishing good contact, he puts all his strength into it, attempting to pull the raptor to the Ground. Following up with a solid blow for 13 Damage.

That should be enough, hit Touch AC 18, and rolled 25 for the trip attempt. For the rest of this turn, I will assume the trip was successful, if it's not, he will attempt to trip it with both remaining attacks. Dm, can you roll them if needed please?

Seeing the now prone Raptor, he swings again, just missing the prone raptor, but his third attack strikes true for 10 Damage.

My third attack was a threat that was not confirmed.

Nice work to finish off both almost simueltaneously.

Berekiah pounds his opponent mercilessly with his spiked chain, driving it to the ground under a flurry of blows. When the raptor attempts to stagger to its feat, one last devasting strike to the head drops it for good.

Nearby, Rauno launches a barrage of arrows into the raptor attempting to maul him, and this time multiple arrows find holes in the wounded raptor's hide. Gushing blood from multiple puncture wounds, the last raptor tumbles to the ground.

Assuming someone decides to search the bodies. And really, what type of good adventurer/mercenary doesn't loot dead bodies? You find:

2 ivory wands, and another pair of entwined silver and obsidian wands. (1 of each from each of the goblins). Additionally, you find 2 potions (inky-black, but odorless, liquid in a glass vial) and an assortment of lances, chain shirts, and daggers. The raptor's also had barding, but I doubt that fits anyone in the party.

What do you do?

I am guessing that Melani saw the blindness came from the obsidian wands. Or that the ivory wands healed up the goblin wounds

DM - are you allowing my cleric to just use the healing wands or do we need to sort out command words etc?

Meanwhile Melani casts resistance on Xer. Then she takes out her pearl of power and re-casts resurgence on him. He gets another save against the blindness.

"Xer this magic is strangely resistant to my spells, may your eyes see the light now and for the rest of your life. I call on Sarenrae to hear my prayer."

Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1

Shariv opes over toward the bodies and rummages around. He finally rises from his scavenging, holding X daggers.

"If you don't mind..."

Note that everyone should have fast healed for 9 hit points in total before the magic fades.

Male Half-Elf Bard 1

As the others investigate the bodies and discuss healing, Rauno carefully walks about the rest of the room, looking both for danger and things hidden from sight while also inspecting the arrows he'd shot. It is obvious from his gait that the archer is still feeling the sting of that raptor's claws. As his companions find items of interest, Rauno calls out, "I can stow stuff in my haversack if it looks valuable." He then resumes his inspection of the room.

Trying to recover whatever arrows he can. Figure it'll take the rest several minutes to search through the bodies, so Rauno will take 20 on a Search of the room if possible, or some rolls to cover the more interesting areas if needed (+11 Search modifier). Rauno is at 24/45 hp.

Different character portrait for another game (right next to Rauno on my Post As drop down selections)--unfortunately with the board settings I can't Edit that post...

Yep, Melani (and others) saw that the obsidian wands cast blindness/deafness, and the ivory wands are curing wands. Cure Moderate to be exact. Melani can use both easily, as they are on her spell-list. And so that should allow you to get the party back up to full. 30 charges in each wand.

While that was one of the toughest encounters in the dungeon, at least on the first level... it also had some of the richest loot, especially in terms of healing items

You note that on the raised platforms on the north and south ends of the room, there are what appear to be portals to other places. The first is a barren wasteland under a scorching sun, while the second is to a primordial jungle teeming with life. However, the portals appear to be visual only, as nothing can pass through them. You can however see raptors, quite similar to the ones you killed, moving about in the distance of the junglescape.

I play in Erian's game and he is a top chap but at second level he may be out of his depth here. Plus he has a goblin horde to destroy as we speak (see Erian's Glen thread for ...)

Melani takes the ivory wand and begins to tend everyones' wounds.

Rauno gets 10pts and 13pts of divine health bringing him back up to full. Berekiah gets 10pts bringing back to not quite full. Anyone else?

Melani takes out her own golden wand and touches it to Berekiah's last open wound.

He receives 6 pts of healing.

Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1

"Oh, damn. I almost forgot."

Shariv saunters over to one of the downed raptors, bending down and pulling out his throwing spikes with a series of unsettling squelching noises. After wiping them on the creature's hide, he holsters the spikes. After a moment, he jams his two new daggers into his belt and slips his razor back into its hidden wrist sheath.

"So... What now?" the merc states matter-of-factly, rubbing his hands together. At that, he looks down, noting that his wounds have already completely healed due to Melani's fast healing spell. "Hot damn, Sunshine! You don't mess about!"

"Shariv - in the name of Sarenrae thanks are not necessary." Melani smiles at the warrior.

I shake my head in confusion and slowly vision returns to me. Its still a little blurry but I can see again. I pick up my bow and start collecting my arrows, muttering "Thanks." to Melani.
Fort 27 Finally!

Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1

I dunno, Chewie. It was all a big dark blur, but now it's a big light blur. I think my vision's getting better.

Nope. Xer was blinded, and the raptors then ignored him, going for Berekiah and Rauno primarily.

There is the doorway to the east across the room.

Or you could reverse your path and go out the door you just came in, and then through the hallway, past the opening to the ventilation shaft, to the western door you originally decided to skip.

Is anyone mapping?

"Shall we carry on, men," asks Melani.

As I finish picking up the last of my arrows Melani speaks up. "Absolutely Sunshine. Lets be on our merry way." I say, somewhat less caustically than usual. It seems that being blind improved my disposition a little. I walk to the East door and examine the door for a bit before making sure that my glove covers all of my hand and trying the door.
How many arrows did I recover?

Talion where for art thou?

My guess is that this one is over. For now hopefully.

Sorry guys, I've been busy and away from the computer over the weekend.

I'd assume this is done unfortunately, or at least on hiatus. We seem to have lost half the party.

But if you want to continue with a reduced party, we can do that. We'll just rule the non-posting PCs go explore a different part of the complex.

Glad to have you back, Talion.
Bereka and Adaro seem to have vanished. I'm fine with continuing as is.

Rauno hasn't posted in a while either...

Well, lets keep this thread bumped to the top of the forum for a day or two, and then we'll proceed with whoever we have left.

*And in the meantime, you survivors can discuss which way you'd like to go. There is a doorway to the west of your entrance through the ventilation shaft that wasn't opened yet. And another closed door on the eastern wall of the Abyssal Raptor room.

(And my wife seems to have overwritten our maps on the website with more baby pictures... I'll get the map as (you know it) posted up on photobucket or something soon so you have a better reference)

I think that we should go through the door to the east in this room before we backtrack.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 2 / Fighter 4 / Exotic Weapon Master 1

I'm still here waiting to go. I've just been away the past weeks, with NO internet acess at all.

I agree with Xer, Let's head through the door to the east

Sorry for the delays. Promotions that double your workload without doubling your pay suck. I should have read the fine-print beforehand, lol

You exit the raptor room through the eastern door, and following the 10' wide marble hallway. It goes east for 20', then takes a 90 degree turn and heads north for another 70' before narrowing and turning east again. After a short distance, the narrow hall widens back to its previous width as it turns north again. Apparently the architects didn't like long straight halls...

Taking a cautious look around this last corner, you see the following:

- An open archway on the west wall, approximately 30' down the hall.

- An intersection to the north, approximately 50' down the hall. This intersection has a pair of open archways (presumably leading to different rooms) at the north end, and a hall continuing to the east.

What do you do? And can I get a party order please?

I make a brief search of the hallway before turning and saying "Looks clear. Right or left?" I ask, looking between the archways.
Are they open?
