For my group we're doing RotR converted to Pathfinder. We're sticking to core PF only, so there wont be anything too crazy character-wise. We currently have 6 players:

Monty - male Chelaxian universal wizard
Goldleif - male Shoanti barbarian who will be multiclassing into spell-less ranger
Roessa - female Chelaxian ranged fighter
Ceycil - male Chelaxian paladin of Abadar
Karma - male gnome druid
Caladren - male elf rogue

And we may have a 7th joining who will be playing a female elf cleric of Sarenrae (fire and healing domains).

Only Karma is a native of Sandpoint, the others all arrived for the Festival.

We're already about half way through Burnt Offerings and so far things are going very well. I want to try and write up a campaign journal, but I'm not sure if I'm going to have the time.

OK, maybe not technically core, but it's basically just a slightly modified ranger, not a completely new class. I'm really not a fan of the core ranger and as luck would have it KQ comes out with a spell-less variant. So, I just had to swap the core ranger for the spell-less ranger in my campaign. Everything else is core though.

Okay my full group is made and here is the rundown:

  • Varisian Rogue, Bladed Scarf wielder and future Shadowdancer (She is playing up the dancer theme heavily)
  • Chelaxian Wizard, hailing from Korvosa's Academy. He is using the UA Summoner Wizard Variant
  • Dwarven Favored Soul of Cayden Cailean
  • Gnome Druid
  • Elven Rogue who thinks himself to be some sort of master spy
  • and finally a Dwarven Fighter, based on being a master of shield bashing who was orphaned and raised by Kellid he travels the world to seek new experiences and learn his place...

That's my group. I'm excited really as these are some of the most thought out and detailed characters I've seen alot of these players ever attempt (although my little post doesn't do them justice).

Well, our group is off to a bumpy start. I ran this AP before, but didn't finish it, so I decided to give it another go.

This group consists of:
An elf enchanter.
A human cleric of Desna who's future with this group is already in question.
A human monk.
A half-elf rogue on the run from the Order of the Nail for crimes committed in Korvosa.
Another guy who was supposed to show didn't, but of course he told me he would be there, thus preventing someone else from joining up. When I offered his spot to the other person, that person didn't respond. So now there is yet another person willing to take his spot. Can't wait to see what he makes.

Yay! The group is getting a fighter on Sunday. I don't think a monk really had what it takes to handle all the front-line fighting for a group.

That is probably true.

My group started out with a human fighter based on mobility. He was killed by a gruesom horse-chopper crit from one of Ripnuggets bodyguards.

I had stressed the importance of AC latter in the RotRL and since the fighters player left the group shortly after this incident one of our rogue players (we had two at the time) decided to make a sword and board dwarf. I am sure the party would have lost 2-3 characters in HMM if he had not been around to draw som attention. With that said the dwarf (AC 32 with combat expertise) has had a few close calls against ogres and Barl Breakbones (against which he is AC 36).

I imagine FoSG might become a really tough challenge if the party does not adjust to the level of this thread.

I am DMing RotRL in 4th edition using Scott's Tales from the Rusty Dragon conversion. It's my first serious foray into DMing, and I'm a little nervous about the first session tomorrow.

My party consists of:

Matathias Lorath, Dragonborn Inspiring Warlord (Great backstory: Abandoned as an infant and raised in the Sandpoint Orphanage until moving to Magnimar to train as a soldier. Returned to help catch Chopper five years ago. Has since mustered out and helps at the orphanage and school. Looking forward to his discovery that the villains of the piece are his playmates from childhood. Hired on as extra security at the dedication. Played by the guy who usually DMs for our group, so I'm hoping he gets a good impression.)

Althaea, Eladrin Wizard (Young and sheltered scholar traveling to Sandpoint in order to see the world and study the Old Light. About to get caught up in Events.)

Mialee, Elf Warden (Hired by sheltered scholar's family as a bodyguard. Left elf lands to search for a sister who began adventuring years ago.)

??? Varisian Human Bard (Itinerant wandering minstrel, in town because festivals mean tips. Am so throwing Shayliss at him.)

Rolan Bitterleaf, Half-Elf Warlock (10-year-old orphan, parents killed in the Sandpoint Fire, by Sczarni looters working ahead of the blaze. Made a desperate infernal pact in enough time to avenge them, and since keeps to himself trying and largely failing to control his abilities. I think he created a child just to drive me insane. I've told him I'm ruling him as a small character. Should make interaction with authority interesting..."You're going where? To kill what? Do you need us to arrange you someone to watch the little guy?")

Beginning Sunday. I have:

CG Varisian Sorcerer
CG Half-Elf Cleric of Cayden Cailean
CG Elven Alchemist
?? Half-Elf Barbarian (not sure whether he is going to be from a Shoanti tribe or the Meirani forest.)

Might have a fifth or even sixth player. We'll see...

I didn't encourage any alignments, btw - they really did all pick CG on their own.

Does anyone else have an issue with getting their players to make background for their characters? And they almost never have any kind of hobbies or anything. It's all about getting wealth.
*sigh*

I have players who deliver a 5 page document with background, family details, goals and physical description

Others can't even remember their race and name.

The difficulty for me is it, to balance this two styles, both PC's should be of the same importance in the campaign and get emotionally attached to the NPC's and the story

hm, never posted my groups here:

1. Group PF-RPG:
halfelf female sorcerer
elf female bard
dwarf male cleric (torag)
human (Shoanti) male Barbarian/Fighter
halfling male rogue/sorcerer
human(varisian) female ranger with griffon (sable company feat)

2. Group 3.5
human (cheliax) male warlock
human (shoanti) male ranger/scout
human (varisian) male cleric/fighter (sarenrae)
elf male wizard
dwarf male fighter/kensai
wild-dwarf male barbarian/druid

Alle PC’s Good or neutral (I don’t allow evil and neutral only reluctantly)
PC gender = player gender

Both groups are inthe middle of HMM

Haha, give him the Young template.

Quote:

Young Creature (CR –1)

Creatures with the young template are immature specimens of the base creature. You can also use this simple template to easily create a smaller variant of a monster. This template cannot be applied to creatures that increase in power through aging or feeding (such as dragons or barghests) or creatures that are Fine-sized.

Quick Rules: +2 to all Dex-based rolls, –2 to all other rolls, –2 hp/HD.

Rebuild Rules: Size decrease by one category; AC reduce natural armor by –2 (minimum +0); Attacks decrease damage dice by 1 step; Ability Scores –4 Strength, –4 Con, +4 size bonus to Dex.

Scarab Sages

While I love seeing the adventuring groups, classes, characters, and combination of all of these, may i ask that people also post the characters' names and as much biographical info as they feel comfortable?

I am compiling a list of names and characters for my use (as well as anyone else who wants it -- just drop me a line at bobby.catdragon@gmail.com).

Here is what i am looking for if i can dictate such things:

character name, sex, race, class (of whatever deity if a cleric, druid, or paladin or wizard specialty if they have one).

It would be greatly appreciated. :)

My group is currently playing a PF conversion of the campaign, set in Greyhawk. This turned Sheriff Hemlock into a blonde Suel barbarian, amongst others...

Current party:
Vryce - Ranger/Rogue (Sandpoint half-elven orphan, disciple of Madam Mvashti. Player still can't pronounce her name.)
Perryn - halfling cleric of Yondalla (another orphan, whose parents were adventuring companions of Sir Jasper Korvaski)
Cherdren - Human Ranger/Rogue (former apprentice smith to Das Korvut)
Vanadis - Human Paladin of Pelor (recently arrived when Belor Hemlock tried to get some support in nearby Marner)
Viruk - Human Rogue (affiliated with the smuggling section of the Sczarni. Conveniently hiding nearby when the party expressed the wish to rent a boat.)

As of now, both the Pathfinder and the Greyhawk conversion have been going pretty well. The campaign is set in Ratik, about 130 years after our last Greyhawk campaign (which left the Sheldomar valley in shambles). Due to the fact that there aren't any long-term Greyhawk grognards in the group and that we're playing in the future of the last gazetteer, I was free enough to fit in all the elements. The Flan take the roles of the Varisians, which removes some of the gypsy elements (well, not entirely, but it's more like Irish tinkers, not Sinti/Roma).

"Current" might be changing pretty soon, as after waaay to much pussy-footing around they finally attempted Thistletop and got their backsides handed to them by Gogmurt. PF animal companions appear slightly better than their predecessors, I think. And you should never fight in thistle tunnels. So we definitely will have to replace our brave halfling cleric and maybe Cherdren and Vanadis, too.

My groups party is as follows: My campaign combines both the Shackled city with Cauldron, and Rise of the Runelords with Sandpoint, into one on good ol' Golarion soil. :)
The are referred to by the townsfolk as the cirque (circus).

Dorina the dwarven dolt: NG ghost dwarf female jester 1
She was engaged to Zenith Splintershield, and her parents, owners of a mine just south of Redgorge, were murdered by Chopper in Cauldron, the only killings he did there. Taskerhill purchased their holdings after their deaths. None of her friends know that she was almost nobility. She interprets Charris's dreams.

Crea Ashun: Changling (masking as a half-elf) CG female witch 1 with fox
familiar.
Lives in Sandpoint with Dorina and Charris. Used to work at the Pixie's kitten, with her "stage name" as Last Night. (What'd you do Last night? Yep.); but when she made a pass at Sherriff Hemlock, she finds herself unemployed. She and Skylar are hitting it off, although Belor's son Tenjzin is also interested in her, creating a love triangle, and disputed interests between the Sheriffs in Sandpoint and the City watch in Cauldron. She is the chosen of Nidrama.

Charris Tobyn: Elan NG female Oracle 1.
She is both blind and haunted (a feat gave her a second curse). She was a high class courtesan at the Cusp of Sunrise, her "blindness" being highly sought after for discreet relations by the wealthy of the region. Her step-father was Ezakien Tobyn, and step-sister was Nualia, both of whom passed away in a fire she believes she started in the old church of Desna. She has visions she receives from Desna. She is the chosen of Athux. She believes she is human.

Joth: Mul CG male Barbarian 1. Half-Shoanti, although he is unaware of his lineage. Works for Captain Skellerang and the city watch as muscle with Zed. He bears the sign of Carceri. He believes he is a hairless human.

Zed the Omega: Half-giant male Sentinel (NG paladin) 1
Zed is the step-brother of Crea. He works for the city watch. He is starting a relationship with Celeste. He and Joth found Thearku Orn under Choppers isle after he was killed.

Thearku Orn: Halfling NG silver dragonborn male summoner 1
Awoke under Choppers isle 5 years ago, with Zed, Belor, Joth and Tenjzin over him. Was taken to Gretchyn's, but eventually left because of the persecution he received from the townsfolk. He fled out onto the devils platter, where he was captured by a Barghest who said he wouldn't escape Malfeshnekor so easily, before branding him with the seven-sided star of the Runelords. Escaping, he jumped off of a cliff-side on the platter, and was caught by what he claims was the Sandpoint Devil, and deposited on Joth and Zed's doorstep. This earned him the nickname the Cauldron devil. He works for Taskerhill mining as an expendable explorer, called cave bait by his co-workers. He summoned his Eidolon, Yasmin, for the first time on accident there. She is called the squished.

I got that too with half of my players :/

The Grandfather wrote:

Well, sounds familiar, but usually the other half overcompensates by insisting on rather mundane career paths for way to long.

"Ruinlords, Shmuinlords, I want to get my blacksmithing business started!"
"I court the shopkeeper's daughter!"
"With the knowledge I gathered from the thorn walls of Thistletop, I'll become Sandpoints premier shrubber!"

Veit, Dwarf Cleric of Torag, LG
Wilhelm, Human Necromancer, LN
Alexander, Human Paladin of Iomadae, LG

No background whatsoever. I think the Paladin once mentioned he came from Taldor, but we don't do anything with it..

We have a great time playing RotRL! I don't consider myself to be a great DM, but the adventure story and all historical information on ancient Thassilon the players slowly find is really keeping everyone interested.

We are now playing HMM and just arrived at the Graul homestead. I consider all 3 players to be at advanced DnD level, so it is a little disappointing when they don't try any creative approach to the given situations. (they just burst every door and slaughter all enemies, and when that doesn't work, they just flee and try the exact same thing next day..). Also the paladin plays as if he is running a solo adventure; just wading into combat expecting the cleric and wizard to back him up and prevent him from dying (which is a shame, because the cleric doesn't really shine in combat because of it, constantly casting his cure spells..).

Another Example:

Another example; the wizard wanted to investigate the sawmill in Magnimar while being invisible. I thought this to be very nice, since it would allow me to have him discover the cultist talking about Ironbriar (and perhaps deducting from here that he was charmed). But, alas, the paladin suddenly decided he would just knock on the front door, warning everyone, and tell his name, ruining the attemps of the wizard. (The paladin was captured, and only survived because I changed the amount of cultists to only 4 and have Ironbriar not cast his Suggestion or Invisibility)

Also as a fun fact; this is perhaps the most greediest paladin you'll ever see. He insists on 'managing' all party-loot. Which he then spends on items that only help him. Also he doesn't ever willingly give some gold to other party members to spend. Of course he doesn't know about SotS, yet.

It sounds to me like the Paladin is straying towards N. The selfish greed part is not keeping in line with the helping others part of the D&D Good ethos and the doing what he wants, regardless of group consensus is more Chaotic than Lawful.

I'm not sure if you want to weild that stick in your campaign but there are more subtle methods to pull an errant paladin back in line than just revoking his powers such as a series of dreams about wealth that have the side effect of causing him to be unable to prepare new spells because of "poor sleep". If he ignores the warnings, you always have the lose-powers-need-atonement option available to you.

Scipio wrote:

Would work brilliantly, except that I'm playing in 4E. Balance works quite differently. I have told him he will be considered a Small character for all practical purposes. That will make some things difficult for him, but also gives him some bonuses to stealth and whatnot.

We've now played our first session, and the wizard (who made all her Arcana checks to understand what he is and how he channels power) has practically adopted him, and has informed the de facto party leader that it is important to the safety of the universe to keep him supervised. Meanwhile, now that they've gotten through the first series of encounters, Alma Alvertin has started providing the little scamp with as many oatmeal cookies as he can eat. He's been hoarding them and using them for bribes.

I'd just smakc this guy with the stick of power loss. Sounds like he's earned it.

I should be so lucky!

I'm not the DM, but I have a lot more free time than he does, especially since I don't have to do as much prep for the next session. This post will contain spoilers for Burnt Offerings.

Our group started out with three characters:

Kavren Stark, NG male Chelaxian Evoker, born and raised in Magnimar and living in Sandpoint for the last four years, running an alchemy business serving the glassworks and other local industries (as opposed to the retail orientation of Bottled Solutions). Yours truly. See my profile for the complete character background I've developed for him, and my LiveJournal for more on our game.

Thoromir, LG male Chelaxian cleric of Iomedae. Armed with a longsword, shield, and chainmail, he often looks and acts more like a paladin than a typical priest, in keeping with his goddess's martial nature. As the Inheritor is the one god with a strong following in Magnimar whose faith has no shrine in the Sandpoint Cathedral, her high priest in the city dispatched Thoromir to minister to her worshippers and advocate for her creed in Magnimar's northern-most satellite town. He arrived just in time to fight against the first goblin incursion, and the immediate popularity that gave him has greatly enhanced the prospects of his original mission.

Kaldak, male Shoanti ranger -- I'm not sure of his alignment. Six feet, seven inches tall and powerfully built, Kaldak's longbow took a heavy toll on the goblin raiders. His rugged good looks attracted the inconvenient attentions of young Shayliss Vinder, who enticed him into the basement of her father's general store in search of dire rats. Fortunately, the big Shoanti's keen ears alerted him to Shayliss father's presence before the elder Vinder started down the stairs, and he gallantly shielded the girl from view as she hastily laced up her bodice, then bluffed his way out of the situation, with the serendipitous help of a rat that scurried across the room as he was explaining why Shayliss had invited him to the store's basement.

Along with Thoromir, Kaldak has taken up residence at the Rusty Dragon, while Kavren has been taking all of his meals there lately, enjoying the company of his new friends, and nursing his growing attraction to his old friend Ameiko Kaijitsu.

Our first session covered the Swallowtail festival and the initial goblin raid. The second started with the boar hunt. Kavren brought down the first boar to make an appearance with a well-timed Color Spray, but the hunt proved rather too exciting for the cowardly Aldern Foxglove when a massive boar with a taint of demonic heritage mistook our party for a light snack. Its disillusionment, by Burning Hands and long boar spears, was swift, painful, and terminal. We brought the normal boar back to Ameiko's kitchen, and the head of the fiendish boar to a local taxidermist, to make a trophy for the Rusty Dragon's common room wall. The followed the tragic incident of the Goblin in the Closet, after which we and the sheriff decided it was past time to start organizing a punitive expedition against the local goblins.

We each gained a level after that session; Kavren took his second level in bard, for both role-playing reasons (see my profile) and the skill points, bardic knowledge, additional cantrips, and the two most useful low-level spells (Sleep and Charm Person) from one of his forbidden schools.

For the third session, we were joined by two new characters, also second level:

Erek, N male Shoanti fighter. A few inches shorter than Kaldak, but broader in the shoulders, Erek eschews his people's traditional fighting style in favor of the longsword, heavy steel shield, and breastplate, reasoning that the weapons and methods the Chelish colonists used to push the Shoanti back from the coast might someday serve to reverse that trend. A man of forbidding demeanor and rough manner (in game rule terms, a Charisma of 7, which his player chose to represent by modeling his personality on Jayne Cobb from Firefly). His unfamiliarity and distrust of townsfolk and their customs nearly got him arrested, after he put too much stock in the rumor that Ilsoari Gandethus was running a goblin farm in the Turandarok Academy's basement, and took it upon himself to investigate said basement in the small hours of the morning. Fortuitously, Kavren, who'd already met Erek at the Rusty Dragon earlier that day, was up late reading in the Academy's library, and managed to defuse the situation before any blows were exchanged, although Erek's aggressive search made a fair-sized mess in the basement kitchen; sheriff Hemlock decreed that he should spend his evenings for the next week washing dishes there, which would give him plenty of time to confirm that there was not a single goblin in residence. It worked out okay, as the students thought it was the best prank in years and took to him immediately despite his gruff manners.

Aeraliss Darvashka, CG female Varisian Rogue, armed with a bladed scarf and a masterwork shortbow. I actually created Aeraliss myself, in the faint hope of recruiting one more player, and lucked out at a gaming Meetup the night before our session. Her ability scores and primary focus on archery were inspired somewhat by Haley Starshine of The Order of the Stick, but I added the bladed scarf to give her a distinctive Varisian flavor. Aeraliss came to Sandpoint to visit an old friend: Ameiko Kaijitsu, whom she met during Ameiko's adventuring days. Naturally, Ameiko introduced her to the town's new heroes, by now regular fixtures in the Rusty Dragon of an evening. When Ameiko vanished, it was Aeraliss' climbing skill that enabled us to reconnoiter the Glassworks via its skylights, and plan and execute a daring rescue and retribution raid against Tsuto and his gory gang of goblins... but more on that later.

We've been running RotR for a year and a half now. Currently, our party is wandering aimlessly though the streets of Xin.

Members:

Xabat, Barbarian turned Fighter: Runaway from the Shoanti equivalent of the Manson Family, he's attempting to go civilized, with mixed results. Has been obsessed with killing Karzog ever since his wife’s branding by MokMorian's giants. Due to a severe drug reaction, he is convinced that the clan hawk totem is stalking him, causing him to forswear all contact with giant raptors.

Shammy, Gnome Sorceror. Specializes in horrifying electrical spells. Is always spoiling and endangering her morose but loyal riding dog familiar Tersie. A legendary grudge holder, she recently ended a ten-level cat-and-mouse game with the druid of Thistletop, earning the title "Demigod of Goblin Death."

Kelmer, Tattooed Monk. Learned the way of the Tat from the owner of the Meditation Center in exchange for dedicating his life to Ioroi. Is "totally gonna get around to that soon." Recently discovered his spendthrift wife was in fact a rakshasa casually enslaving the Sandpoint citizenry, forcing the party to annul the marriage “with extreme prejudice.”

Delder , Dwarven Cleric and Ordained Champion (aka CoDzilla) of Iomadae. Formerly designated successor of Sandpoint’s village priest, now engaged in popularity battle with new arrival from the Church of Asmodeus. Prefers the prayers that explode. Had alignment flipped for 3 levels due to curse; neither PCs nor Iomadae noticed.

Fujuka , Humble Traveler from Cheliax. (“Ninja? No such thing.”) Cousin of Rusty Dragon Proprietor. Currently being hunted by pajama-wearing House Thrune assassins; hasn’t worn his real face for eight levels. Master of vanishing – often does it right in the middle of an adventure, to the party’s dismay.

Camora, Varisian Bard and Cloaked Dancer. Born in the wagon of a Varisian show, currently dancing for the money they throw. Possesses the most powerful weapon in the group: a dancing bladed scarf inhabited by her nagging grandmother. Dedicated Thessolonian otaku attempting to earn Pathfinder Society membership. (If she survives Xin, she’s a total lock!)

The party has recently gained a new recruit, a druid who undoubtedly has a name of some sort. His dire bear companion is looking to form a support group with Shammy’s familiar.

The group was given a bonus feat from the companion, a respec at 6th level, and uses action points.

After some updates, and Bolo Orcson's chastisement, I thought I'd repost with more information...

Kuile (pronounced Quill) is a CG Elven Alchemist. His parents were wanderers and adventurers themselves - his mother an herbalist and his father a warrior. After his mother saved a small, insulated town from a plague (though the cure had some annoying side effects), the townsfolk showed their gratitude for the remedy by getting suspicious of the elves and driving them off. Kuile has mostly followed in his mother's footsteps, but carries his father's sword as well. Kuile is searching for a nymph, after learning that their favor can inspire artisans to great works. He also wants to aquire a Stoot, as he thinks his mother would like one - he is unaware of the tragedy of five years past that makes even bringing this up a bad idea.

Milosh is a CG Varisian sorcerer (air elemental bloodline), grandson of Madame Mvashti. While not actually from Sandpoint, his band travels the areas nearby and he has several relatives in town. He doesn't know why he can fling lightning about, but he likes doing it... at 17, however, he seems more interested in using his powers to impress women and get them into bed.

Kros is a CG half-elf cleric of Cayden Cailean from the River Kingdoms, and a pirate wanderer. He fights with a rapier in one hand and a tankard in the other, and wants to spread his faith (or at least, get everyone to lift a mug to his god).

Sev (short for Severed Head) is a CN half-elf barbarian. Left in the woods as a child, he has had to fend for himself. His only treasured possession is the greatsword that was left next to him. Occasionally attracted by the lights of villages and cities, he wandered in to Sandpoint during the Swallowtail festival and stayed for the free food. Sev's joy in life is the thrill of combat and he lives to kill. However, while he relishes fights he rarely starts them and never considers it a good fight if his opponent is too weak to give him a challenge.

Edrick is a N tiefling fighter who was abandoned at a farmstead just outside of Sandpoint. His father was an adventurer, but retired to a quiet life after falling in love with Edrick's adopted mother. The couple found they couldn't have children, so when Edrick was left to them they decided to raise him as their own. Often bullied by the townsfolk, Edrick is startled to find he is less hated, and sometimes even liked, after his actions during the goblin raid.

I haven't decided what to do with Sev's or Edrick's backgrounds yet - I might make them half brothers. ;)

Dark Archive

I've got 3 PCs in the campaign at the moment. It's their first PF game, currently 3/4 through Burnt Offerings.

Lady Slalesh, an elven witch (using the APG preview). About 200 with a grown son, raised by Varisian gypsies. She's the one that Aldern Foxglove is interested in - they'll be doing the boar hunt soon. Utterly uninhibited, the PC also carries a deck of cards to do Tarot readings for the PCs.

Julius E. Walthers, a Taldoran fighter/rogue. He's disguised himself as an Andoran swashbuckler, but is in fact a spy. Very blustery, "noble scoundrel" persona. He's taken over the Sheriff's office while the sheriff is out of town. He also plans to purchase the glassworks from Ameiko. About to go on a date with the mayor (who he thinks is just a minor noble).

Orith Ards, a dwarven cleric of Desna from Magnimar. He's got a thing for elven arse, but has been roped into being the boyfriend for Ven Vinder's younger daughter to keep her from getting into trouble. Very proud and stand-offish.

After 9 Saturday sessions (approx. 10-12hrs at a time), the party are just embarking on the 5th adventure. The 4 characters have remained constant throughout although there has been the occasional death from which they were brought back.

Tessa - Comely Half-Elf Sorceress of Fey Bloodline who's big on blasting and support, but not illusion. Looks to the others to provide her with protection when its needed in battle but is an overtly caring soul

Zolar - The all-round good guy Human Cleric of Sarenrae, tends to hang back and support with spells but also has some competance with his cold-iron Glaive to provide some melee support unless their AC starts to prove a challenge.

Meena - A young Shoanti Barbarian Girl wielding an Earthbreaker; very protective of 'big sis' Tessa, she hopes to see and learn much from the countries, peoples and monsters of Golarian so she can better lead her tribe when she becomes the Tribal Leader.

Nimble - The greedy backstabbing Human Rogue of the party, usually moves into combat with Meena to get optimum combat positioning. Would sell off the party for a huge pile of gold if they didn't have such a knack for finding rare treasures, and the fact that most enemies would later stab him in the back isn't wasted on him. Recently behaved himself enough that Zolar finally removed the Mark of Justice that was placed on him to keep him in check.

Adventure1:
No PC deaths. The players loved the take on the Goblins and their random actions. After rescuing Aldern Foxglove, the noble took a big interest in Tessa much to the annoyance of 'lil Meena who was watching over big sis. The barghest Malfeshnekor was way too much for them and ended up blocking the party in the room but stayed his claws from killing them in return for them breaking seals that he could not touch which would allow him to leave this place, he was also impressed by the lvel of greed in Nimble's heart and his level of self-preservation.

Adventure2:
There were no PC deaths (apart from a TPK) though their horses were eaten whilst exploring the Foxglove manor. A big favourite of mine was Ghoulbat who will be making a return in future games, whilst the players enjoyed the investigation of the murders and the exploration of the manor. The Magnimar section wasn't quite so much fun and in facing Xanesha they were overwhelmed by her and suffered a TPK; Nimble was saved until last, subdued and had his greedy soul harvested. After thinking on this I spoke to the players and agreed we'd try the combat again and that I should have heeded the warnings on the Paizo board and substituted her for the other Lamia Matriach in 3rd Adventure. Party barely won, but managed never-the-less and good profailed...

Adventure3:
Meena died in combat with Bark Breakbones. The characters have agreed never to speak of the events that occured in the Graul homestead =) I turned up the vile factor especially with regards to Mammy and her excretions and the players loved it.

Adventure4:
Meena died in combat with Galenmir, Tessa was turned to stone by Mokmurian. Group carefully infiltrated Jorgenfist, spending a couple of days taking out the Wyverns and dragon which led to the captured townsfolk being executed. With invisibility and fly they got straight into Jorganfist and encountered the Stone Fighter Galenmir who felled Meena with two criticals in a row. Nimble then dropped to his knees and started humping the Stone Giant in a bid to be spared the wrath of this brute. Meeting Conna shortly afterwards they part got info the the mooks and bad guys in the fortress and mad use of a variety of spells to bypass of better face their foes. The battle with Mokmurian as written was awesome; the party were kept at bay for a long while with Slow Fog and Reverse Gravity as written - The Barbarian used up every Rage Point and the Cleric has no lvl 1+ spells after this excellent combat.

Adventure5:
Tessa died at the hands of The Scribbler. The Scribbler successfully divided the party, got Tessa and Zolar alone and after pretty intense battle felled them just as the other two PCs arrived on the scene and then stood back and calmly offered them a choice; he would heal Zolar who would then have a chance to save Tessa(they were both in heavy negatives) in exchange for a blood-promise with Meena and a tiny sliver of her soul which would let him successfully leave the catacombs (and spread the influence of his mistress) to which Meena reluctantly agreed.

Playing every week Friday nights. We just finished our character building session. Planning on starting fresh next week with the Swallowtail Festival.
Of the 4 Gnomes and 2 Humans – Bobo, Chester, Mr. Ozwald, Zoot, and Zebulon are coming in on the same ship from Cheliax. While Zarathustra has been anxiously looking for worthy adventurers, posting signs and inquiring all over town, hoping the incoming festival will be his ticket to some action.

I'm looking forward to a game oozing with insanity...though the lawfulness is kind of an odd trend.

Grand Lodge

Using PFRPG rules with 20 point Ability Score buy, plus House rule to +1 Ability Score every even level.

Doctor Mabutu CG Mwangi Witch "Doctor", House Rule Familiar (Chattering Skull on the end of his staff)- Player spent an Improved Familiar feat to obtain (Gives bonus spells like Rat, +3 to Know<Arcana>); Lives in the Mushfens. Incredibly intelligent, but not nearly as wise as he believes he is.

Gargan CG Shoanti Barbarian, Combat monster, uses EarthBreaker and often does his best Gallagher impression! *SPLAT* Very Strong.

Rohan LN Dwarf Monk, Orphaned and raised by human monks. After his father figure past away, Rohan left the monastery and decided to learn on his own... Player's first time table top gaming... wants to be a ninja... Silly Dwarf! He finds the unpredictability of his fellows quite amusing...

Rodaj CG Chelish Ranger, An odd duck, he really doesn't like Goblins! He is mainly an archer, but if they get too close, he pulls out his trusty Great Axe! He's not all there mentally, but has a good soul.

Alaric CG Elven Rogue, Swashbuckler of sorts, not your typical Rogue. He figures that since trouble will find him anyway, why not be in the company that seems to invite it! He wants to be like Indiana Jones! "They named the Cooshie Alaric!"

Scarab Sages

I'm running a group through "Rise of the Runelords" right now. We're in the middle of "The Hook Mountain Massacre" now, with the group storming Fort Rannick having just come in through the secret entrance and defeating Lucrecia. Now they just have to clear the rest of the Fort!

As it stands, the group is made up of the following characters:

Galnak - Shonti Barbarian/Ranger/Horizon Walker
Raven - Varisian Bard/Thief/Fighter
Brother Nomathese - Varisian Cleric of Cayden Calayden
Marcus - Varisian Sorcerer

Had several near TPK's in the first two adventures. However, once the group started out with Adventure #3, everything sort of leveled out. They're extremely happy now that they have the assistance of three NPC's as they finish clearing the rest of Fort Rannick (the guy who betrayed the Fort was revealed by Lucrecia, and he ran for his life).

Tarrintino

Started the game saturday.

Human Cleric of Sarenrae plans to become Mystic Theurge
Human Fighter specializing in archery
Human Fighter specializing in melee.. sword and board to start though may go axes.
Half-elven Sorcorer Celestial Blood-line.

The party has been handing me a number of .."beating sticks" Gotta love it.

They really loved the first encounters with the goblins, little do they know what evil little freaks they are. They are a rowdy bunch but all very experienced gamers except for one and she is catching on.

My group is in the final stages of 'Fortress; now:

Xelgar Kaijutsu - Male Half-Elven Rogue/Swashbuckler. Rapier and shortsword fighter. Native of Magnimar, originally came to Sandpoint to get away from some 'difficulties' with the Scarzni there. Took the Kaijutsu name when he married Ameiko. Cousin to Djordi.

Djordi - Male Human Dragonsblood Sorcerer/Dragon Disciple. Wields a Varisian scarf. Native of 'nowhere in specific' Varisia, his mother was a wandering cleric of Desna. Originally in Sandpoint to meet his cousin Xelgar, he keeps going on walkabouts during downtime to avoid being tied down to one place. Took Shayliss Vinter on as an apprentice sorcerer after her failed seduction.

Tara - Human Female Fighter. Uses a two-handed sword. Daughter of a former Armiger from the Order of the Nail, who settled down and opened an inn after losing a hand to a 'boggart bite.' Originally in Sandpoint as a guard on a merchant wagon coming for the festival. Currently 'Lady Rannick.'

Tressa - Female Elven Cleric/Spherewalker. Rapier and starknife wielder. Originally in Sandpoint to assist with the festival and study at the temple there. Very, very tired of seeing priestess, temples, and worshipers of Lameshtu, and very, very hopeful that she'll do something to earn a vist from 'the big butterfly.'

After a hiatus, we are returning to RotRL the 26th with our original characters. We are converting to PF rules. We were halfway through Burnt Offerings having just completed the Catacombs....

Mazrim (Male Varisian Ranger 3) - A womanizer already in trouble with Ven Vinder over his daughter Shayliss, and has designs for Savah (Armory) and possibly Ameiko.
Titania Simanova (Female Varisian Rogue 3) - Fled Magnimar for unknown reasons, and had an affair with Aldern Foxglove recently. Doesnt know yet that shes headed back to Magnimar soon.
Harsk (Male Dwarven Druid 3 (Plant domain Nature Bond)) - Super strong frontline druid. Formerly from Janderhoff and one of the druids that rotate Niska Mvashti's weekly wilderness excursions.
Zeldana Mvashti (Female Varisian Sorcerer 3 (White Draconic Bloodline)) - Great Grandaughter of Niska, currently visiting from Magnimar's Stone of the Seers. Destined to discover that her bloodline is linked to Arkrhyst Freezemaw. This is an NPC.

My "group" is about to tackle Thisletop in Burnt Offerings. When I say group, it is a misnomer as I'm running this AP for my wife. She has a gestalt sorcerer/bard that has been boosted up (more skill points, hp and spells and she gets a firepelt as her familiar). For the Catacombs, she was joined by an Inquisitor of Desna and a Cavalier of the Order of the Star to clean un Lamashtu scum!

It's going pretty well. However, my wife has to remember sometimes that retreat IS an option! :-)

Played the first session last night. Much fun was had by all. For the record I worked with the players to come up with origins that would tie into the story as best I could. Note players of my game or any other shouldn't read the spoilers, I give stuff away.

Kelvin Mason, CG Human Cleric of Nomus
Nomus is a homebrew god that the player created. Pretty much he's an old God that hasn't had many followers since the fall of the Thassilon Empire. The idea is that his God is more of a minor deity focused on crafting and strength. Nomus isn't as powerful as a major deity, but he's more involved in his followers lives. Kelvin comes to Sandpoint to help build the Temple.

Spoiler:
Nomus lives on the Material Plane and wanders Golorian. Kelvin spent the past few years traveling with him and has seen a number of odd sights. I want to have flashbacks all through out the game in different locations around the world that the younger Kelvin traveled to. At least one will be Rimeskull, where there will be hints about the Rune Forge, which in this game will be more focused on crafting than as described. My idea is that clerics of Nomus built the Rune Forge for the Runelords, so he considers it a holy place. But for whatever reason Nomus himself can not go there, perhaps he is bound to the Material plane and Rune Forge is in a pocket dimension that he can not enter. Outside of that I haven't figured out what sort of involvement Nomus will have on the story.

Bumpus Windsong, CG Halfling Bard
This extremely likable performer is the son of a rich merchant from Magnimar. His interest in ancient history leads him to Sandpoint and Brodert Quink. His father is a member of the Council of Ushers.

Spoiler:
Bumpus' father Waylan is a very important member of the Council of Ushers and is most certainly on Xanesha' list for the Brotherhood. I haven't decided if he will get killed off or not. Alive he can add a lot of tension between Bumpus and Alister, dead he can't. Besides if I did the story as written he'd be killed off before Bumpus meets him in game. Option one is a number of flashbacks to set the relationship up. Option two is to have the cult attempt to kill him and fail. Option three he's killed after the party gets to Magnimar. Or he can just not get killed off at all. Haven't figured it out yet. Suggestions are welcome.

"Pad" Pelton NG Human Rogue
Farm boy with a heart of gold. Raised in Sandpoint and one of the few people that survived Chopper. In my version of Chopper he kidnapped people and then killed them and placed body parts in the town. Pad was supposed to be his last victim.

Fletcher Greene NG Human Ranger
A traveler from Turtleback Ferry. He grew up idolizing the Black Arrows, but was unable to join them. He was simply wandering from place to place and found himself in Sandpoint on the day of the Shallowtail Festival.

Alister Wise LN Half Elf Sorcerer
An agent of the Council of Ushers in Magnimar. He has been sent by Waylan Windsong to watch over and protect Waylan's son, Bumpus. Pretty much he's a spy and a bodyguard.

Spoiler:
Alister is a sorcerer, but has no knowledge of his abyssal bloodline and heritage. Looking forward to Catacombs of Wrath and somehow having his abyssal claws come out due to being too close to the shrine of Lamashtu.

Mannis Malocci CN Human Fighter
Originally from Riddleport, Mannis is a traveler who spent a few years in the Storval Plateau and is now staying with his cousin Jubrayl in Sandpoint. Most people don't know that his mother was the leader of the Sczani gang in Riddleport until she went crazy and killed most of the gang. Mannis lost an eye and gained a large scar down the side of his face that night.

Spoiler:
His mother is based on Viorian Dekanti, now Viorian Malocci from Spires of Xin-Shalast. I'm going to change the adventure a bit to have her and her sword appear at least once before. Right now I'm thinking of having her work as a General in the Army of Jogenfist, which I'm planning on having at least one major battle sequence. I felt that Fortress of the Stone Giants is missing something. I'm thinking an army on the move and having a collected Magnimar and Korvosa army on the battle field is just too awesome. The party will be sent to try to sneak into the Fortress to stop the leader while the Magnimarian army fights the collected giant army. Right now I plan to use sections of Red Hand of Doom to help me with this section. I'm hoping that by the end of the story the players will be somewhat convinced that Mokmurian, who I am going to call the "Rune Giant." Hopefully the party will think he is the Runelord that the AP is named after.

???? Half Orc Monk
Hasn't played yet. No idea on back story.

Asuka LN Female Human Ninja, replaced Roshan when he came down with a slight case of deadness, and now she has passed on to the great beyond. At least she died in a heroic/dramatic fashion... helping to take down Nualia!

Khaestyl Joss N(G?) Male Elven Druid, joined to help his old friend Alaric. Strangely more sympathetic than the Humans... a good addition. Uses a wicked Scythe and has a Falcon AC.

Sunday, I started my group and they brought along:

Marcellano Charthanion LG Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Iomedae)
From Korvosa, he inherited a magic, Thassilonian runed, shield from his grandfather who had acquired it after a disastrous raid upon a Shoanti encampment where he was the lone survivor. He has arrived in Sandpoint because of a recent dream that showed him that he was to play a role within the coming chaos.

Lissa Zencaly CG Halfling (Varisian) Rogue
The offspring of a pair of Chelaxian Halflings who survived a disastrous raid by Korvosan Chelaxians upon a Shoanti encampment and were ultimately found and adopted by the Varisians. Came to Sandpoint to help keep an eye on her younger cousin.

Carmelizza Zencaly CG Human (Varisian) Sorcerer (Fire Elemental Bloodline)
The younger, but significantly taller, cousin of Lissa, is the granddaughter of the Varisians who adopted the Halflings. Had a Harrow reading that indicated that the path to her destiny was to begin in Sandpoint.

Jokdul LG Human (Shoanti) Monk
After his rite of passage, Jokdul began following Natu Tuatu and learned to become a monk and an aspiring Pathfinder. Natu loaned him an old wayfinder and gave him the mission to witness and record the founding of the new cathedral.

So far they made it through the initial goblin attack and they think that Aldern is the key to their next step in the adventure. They did have a great of fun with the festival, particularly the games that have been posted on the forums.

gigglestick wrote:

My group started with Into the Haunted Woods, and so they picked up an NPC there (no PC clerics)...

As of Burnt Offerings:

Verios: Elf Diviner Wizard (Lots of Useful Spells as opposed to blasting/ enhancement)
Skillum Queeg: Human Paladin (Ex Murderer who found Sarenrae while in prison)
Kytt: Half-Elf Rogue (Looking to dual class as Fighter. Wants to use a Scythe in combat...)
Jakk: Half Elf Rogue (Looking to dual class as Ranger)
Naslyn: Tiefling (COT rules) Cleric of Shelyn (Presently courting the owner of Two Knights Brewery to help him get over the loss of his brother)
Estle Winterbloom: Human Hedge Witch (PF Database Class) NPC

And we might be adding either a human spellblade or a dwarf barbarian.

[As for the Witch, during the missing dagger section of ITHW, the players really enjoyed her "I'm always blamed for everything" personality, sarcastic wit, and the strange but useful nature of her powers..so I took her from an Adept 3 to a Hedge Witch 1 when they hired her to help them in the woods. Now they don't want to get rid of her... which is OK, the Hedge Witch is a nice support character who doesn't overshadow the Cleric Abilities.

I think the turning point for having her join the party was during the first battle she witnessed in ITHW where 3 of the characters rolled critical fumbles on turn 1 (Using the Fumble deck we had a: Funnybone hit/ Dropped Shield, Weapon stuck in Ground, and Arrow Shot into own foot.- Followed the next turn by the same archer tearing off part of his ear.) Her response: "Do any of you know how to fight? At all?" I think that made her one of them. ]

Now the heroes are taking time to explore the town (they have 2 days before the festival) and interact with the locals.

Nobody wants to go to the Rusty Dragon though...

Things have changed a bit after 13 weeks (almost through Thistletop).

Been through 2 clerics. (Naslyn and Kaerla)

Now Estle and Skillum are the healers for the party.

Because Skillum's player had to drop out from a few weeks for personal reasons (he's back now), the party adopted an NPC Halforc Barbarian to use as a heavy. Once Skillum returned, everyone (including Skillum) liked the barbarian so much that they kept him on.

So, now we have:

Verios: Elf (Celwynvian) Diviner 3
Kitt: Halfelf (Riddleport) Rogue 2/ Ranger 1
Jakk: Halfelf (Riddleport) Spellblade 2/ Rogue 1
Skllum: Ulfen (Riddleport) Paladin 3
Estle: Human? (Wolf's Crossing) Hedge Witch 3
and now
Goryl: Halforc (Shoanti/ Cinderlands Outcast) Barbarian 3

and with this sort of party, it's possible they might pick up one or two more.

As it is, I'm running it as a 6 player adventure...

I started to run RotRl second time and now they are middle of Skinsaw Murders. Group consist three players which have made things different than with the first group.

Minthas, half-elf servant of Saranrae originally from Riddleport. Eventhough he he more celestial sorcerer in him than cleric [Celestial Sorcerer 4/Cleric of Saranrae 1] he really is an priest. Blessed by Sun and so fort.

Rolfsnudder, half-orc fighter from Storval Plateau. Father was leader of an mercenary group of half-orcs. Bears a sign of this group in his chest. Mysterious person who often advices group to non-violent solutions.

Jalax Argon, human ranger from Wolf's Ear. Classic adventurer who likes alchol, woman and fighting. Interested about Shalelu. Running gag is his name which everyone in this group finds hilarious [often he is called "Jargon" or "Järvinen" which is Finnish and is one of the most common surenames in Finland. Means something like "one who lives near the lake"]. Jalax is also really unlucky with diseases [already got tetanus, ghoul fever and Vorel's phage].

I know my plaeyrs and they know me so we have had lots of fun with RotRl. I love this AP and now this campaing is my 1.1 version of it because I know where failed and now do lots of stuff better.

My group is up to the end of chapter 4.

The Cast:
Blakkrmund of Raven Clan, Ulfen human fighter/sorcerer. His clan was scattered by magic during an attack on Baba Yaga, and he was travelling south in attempt to find them. He linked up with Vasharr, a fey-born human midget also from Irrisen. Reworked into custom draconic human after PF rulebook came out. Fighter/Barbarian. Has lizardfolk cohort/love interest, which caused some amusement on return to Sandpoint as Blakkrmund was the one who encountered the Vinder girl. ;)

Vasharr ulfen human (midget) druid. Unknown past. Explored Sanos forest alone at two points between adventures. Character turning to darker side as game progressing. Changed to wizard after 2nd departure, after starting with PF full rules.

Akacia half-elven cleric of Calistra. Unloved by her parents she turned to Calistra's teaching, and sought revenge on her parents. During her travels she saw that the way of revenge was not helping and converted to Torag, building him a temple within Fort Rannick and has since got very righteous.

Altariel elven bard. Princess of a major elven holding. Brother is quite evil and she escaped after he caused the destruction of the rest of her family. Gathering power to return and deseat him - all this she's so far kept from the others. Also first time player of any RPG, also the only one to not rejig their character mid-campaign to closer match her vision. :)

Chapter 1: Kicked a lot of butt. Very proactive, only thing not done was the deeper levels of Thistletop. They also spent a long time scaling and searching Chopper's Isle.

Chapter 2: Same again. There were no additional murders after the introduction. Spider-climbed up Xanesha's tower, avoiding the bells completely.

Intermission. Took some time and ran bluebooks for those with time and interest. Blakkrmund met his love interest and aquired a powerful artefact that he can't use without severe penalties due to alignment mismatch. Vasharr explored and discovered his fey-ish heritage.

Chapter 3: Restored Fort Rannick and decided to keep it. Kaven got away. Imprisoned Barl and forced him to help restoring the keep, then after several months let him go.

Intermission. Bluebooked running the fortress over winter, with a sidequest into a Thassilonian ruins deep below Rannick that released an assassin demon into the fortress. Then a short time later the Order of the Nail sieged the fortress - which they successfully repeled, however the leaders escaped. I'm concurrently running Curse of the Crimson Throne, this happens during the end of the plague when the Order of the Nail disappears from Korvosa, so my players who are in both get some extra cool. :)

Chapter 4: The party now able to teleport assists in the defense of Sandpoint against the giants. The giants don't even make it into town, except looking the Scarnetti Manor. They almost beat the giants with their prisoners back to Jorgenfist using range of sight teleports each day from Fort Rannick. They've missed the Black Tower, but besides that only have the library and Mokmurian himself to go to finish the chapter.

Shade - Human Rogue/Fighter. The most amoral of the group. He's lived in Sandpoint for a few years, enough to know the locals, and has befriended Ameiko. Plays the flute, and they know him at the Pixie's Kitten. Also dubbed a certain creature "clappy-face" due to . . . well, that'd be a spoiler. :)
Coralynn - Half Elven Sorceress. Her mother was Varisian, and she has adopted that manner of clothing. Currently bald due to an unfortunate encounter in volume 1. She's the one who usually realizes that "oh, we really needed to prepare better" and acts as the "face" of the group. Played by the resident rules lawyer, which means I rely on her since I have trouble enough keeping the story straight, much less the rules.
Nicademus - Halfing Ranger. Native of the Sandpoint Hinterlands, he's a grouchy, bearded halfing who wields a wicked crossbow. Agile and limber, he provides the scout aspect for the group. Noted for his country ways, and his ability to state the obvious (like when Coralynn's hair fell out, he said "My knowledge of nature tells me that's not natural").

Grand Lodge

After months of trying unsuccessful of getting enough people to form a group I finally had my first game session with my tabletop group. A resounding 8 players (when it rains it pours I guess).

Cassandra- Varisian/chelish female Oracle of Stone that is Haunted. She is a local fortuneteller, so her haunts are the victims of Chopper.

Stoanne "Stone"- Dwarf male Monk. Also a local(been in Sandpoint for about 2 years now) who has begun training with Sabyl at the House of the Blue Stone.

Gilbert Wood- Chelish male Fighter Local Hinterfolk who's family has a farm. Good friends with a number of Sandpoint's Guardsman.

Ulfire- Half Elf male Cleric of Sarenrae Local acolyte of the cathedral. Happy that the Temple is finally getting dedicated. very zealous servent of his Goddess.

Mogan- Chelish male Fighter Local who has been away for the last two years fighting in a skirmish war with assorted Goblinoid tribes to the north.Returning home after a major defeat in the ongoing struggle where the rest of his unit was wiped out.

Arcaden- Forlorn Elf male Rouge He stumbled across the battlefield where he found Mogan clinging to life. He helped patch him up and has since decided to Protect the young fighter accompanying him back to Sandpoint.

Freyhim- Varisian male Bard from Magnimar traveling with his friend Alister, they have decided to leave the city for a while and come to the much talked about Swallowtail Festival of Sandpoint.

Alister- Chelish male Alchemist Slightly unhinged from a unstable elixir early in his training. He travels with Freyhim as he isn't sure what else to do.

Because Skillum's player...

The party has just added another NPC.

After finishing Thistletop, they had to decide what to do with the goblin they'd captured under the Glassworks. Unfortunately, the Paladin promised the goblin (Greenteeth) that if he surrendered, he would not be hurt or killed.

The town is sort of honor-bound to respect the Paladin's word. (And, none of them want to go toe to toe with the party about it.)

So, after holding the goblin for 2 weeks, the town met with the party when they returned from Thistletop. The Sheriff and Mayor debated with the heroes and it was decided to release the goblin into the party's care (because any other result would ahve resulted in Greenteeth's death.)

Then Kitt (the Ranger Rogue) made a critical success on his diplomacy and the goblin critically fumbled his resist...so Greenteeth agreed that his best bet at survival was to obey the party...

Then the party decided that the best way to rehabilitate him and teach him discipline and a more lawful bent was to leave him with the Order of the Blue Stones...

So, while the party spends a few weeks training and recovering and doing all the post-adventure maintenance, the goblin is getting Monk Training...

So far, they've treated him very nice and have kept the townspeople from causing him any harm. (They even got one of the guards to teach him to play cards...)

The town isn;t thrilled with having the goblin with them, but being that the heroes literally killed everything at Thistletop and the Glassworks, there really is no threat.

We'll see how adding a goblin Monk to the party makes things work...

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Just started up a play by (google)wave, running this campaign in 4th edition (I know sacrilegious). Here's the characters in any case.

Adran: Elven Rogue. Haven't gotten much more background yet.

Tarocchi The Mystic: Varisian Sorcerer. A fortune teller, using a harrow deck as his implement.

Mikal: A half-elven swordmage. Grew up as an orphan in Riddleport, having come to Sandpoint as a mercenary for hire.

Cornelius: Human bard. A noble son from Magnimar. Come to Sandpoint to get some contacts in the glassworks, want to escape his father and his wishes for his son.

Thagnar Stonewall: Dwarven fighter. Has come from the mountains to explore the world and hopefully get rich.

Well, after several player adds and drops and some character deaths, the party, now about to enter Foxglove Manor, is the following:

Verios: Elf Diviner 5 (pretty much the anchor for the party)

Danforth: Human Ranger 4 (his player was playing a halfelf rogue3/ranger1, but that character died) Sometimes team leader

Makai: Dwarf Cleric of Sarenrae 4 : Team healer and uber-channeler. (Clerics are NASTY in this adventure and CLerics of the Sun especially so)

Yabaday: Halforc Monk 4 (Used to be a bugbear, then got reincarnated. Before that, the player had a halfelf Rogue 1/Spellblade 3 who died and came back as a goblin Rogue 1/ Spellblade 3) He's the party"rogue" now. Still recovering from the negative level damage from being reincarnated.

Estle: Human (Hagspawn) Hedgewitch 5 Party backup healer and token cheesecake

Goryl: Halforc Barbarian 5 the self-described meatshield. (61 HP at level 5!)

They are working together much better. For the longest time, the Hedgewitch was the party healer. Now that there is a cleric as well (and Estle has a wand of wonder) they have more combat flexibility.

This has been a brutal campaign, and everybody is loving it. A lot of the adventures end with the party at single digit HP by the end of the fights...close calls, but they survive (most of them).

Not surprisingly, most of the deaths have been from player..."impulsiveness" as opposed to bad dice rolls...

My playing group is quite small, only myself (GM), my wife and a good friend. BUT the playing experience is phenomenal. My wife has been roleplaying D&D since the early 1980's, I have been actively playing D&D since 1987, and our friend since 1990.

Two PC's per person is about the absolute limit, hence we stuck with that and I play an additional PC for a total of 5. Our line-up with a little background follows:

Astrid - Elven Ranger, bow specialist, of course. Footloose and fancy free, hit Sandpoint (pre-BO) on a business task for her elven weaponsmith father. Good friends with Ameiko. Possibly heading towards Arcane Archer.

Durn - Human Fighter, one of Sheriff Hemlock's sergeants, early 30's, from a local farming family. Durn is laconic, but is usually the spokesperson, as he actually has some legal authority. Fearless, but not rash.

Alleyne - Human Paladin of Tyr. Started out a member of Sheriff Hemlock's militia. From a Sandpoint blacksmithing family of Linnorm King heritage (hence the Nordic deity). Absolutely fearless, does not hesitate to charge casters (Mammy Graul had not one round of uninhibited casting before Alleyne was hacking through the blubber)

Torin - Human Rogue, on the run from Magnimar where the one of Thieve's Guilds has a price on his head from past indiscretions. He had to stay disguised in the Magnimar part of Skinsaw. A bit thuggish, will stand and fight if Durn or Alleyne has the attention of the villain.

Graysee - Elven Bard/Cleric, basically is the healer, and magic support for the group, just took a level as Cleric of Desna. Is extremely disappointed about the group letting Jakardos and Vale execute Kaven after he broke down and revealed that he betrayed the Black Arrows. She had used Charm Person to make him reveal his treachery.

No deaths yet, we just finished Black Magga. This group actually killed her in four rounds, right before she fled...amazing!

Just started Burnt Offerings. Short session, but lots of fun.

The party thus far:

Tosca: CN Female H-Orc Druid. Adopted daughter of a Sandpoint farming family. Greatly admires Ameiko, and had finally worked up the courage to pack up her things and her pet boar Abeka and go adventuring... just as soon as the Festival was over. Is so far rather delighted that adventure seems to have come to her instead.

Emaleth: CN Female Human (Varisian) Rogue. Sandpoint native, recently returned from a couple years in the big city. A rather brutal fighter, she racked up the most dead goblins during the raid. Further endeared herself to the already smitten Aldern by scoring the kill during the boar hunt as well.

Soren: CG Male H-Elf Barbarian. A haunted, piratical youth from Riddleport, in Sandpoint trying to track down his absentee Elven father. Possibly Tsuto's half-brother. Cynical, but the most altruistic of the band.

Tragh: N Female H-Orc Oracle. Raised in an orc tribe, has followed frustratingly vague visions to Sandpoint. Uncertain about human culture and uncomfortable around all but Tosca. Appears as an old crone despite her young age due to her Wasting curse. Proved surprisingly good with children during the Festival.

It's been a fun group so far. Looking forward to seeing what kind of havoc the mod wreaks on us next time.

Liberty's Edge

I really should have posted here when my new Rise of the Runelords group started up, instead of waiting until we were halfway through "The Skinsaw Murders," but better late than never. ;)

THE GROUP

Errol ("the Drunk"), LG male human monk (drunken monk): Lost his wife to the Chopper five years ago and swiftly went from being a merchant marine cook to being a homeless drunk. Would sometimes street-fight for coins and got thrown out of every tavern in Sandpoint except the Rusty Dragon. Errol finally hit bottom six months before the campaign began when he drunkenly wandered off the docks and nearly drowned. Had a vision of Cayden Cailean while he was unconscious and started getting his life back together.

Peter ("Goblinfinder"), CN male human rogue (sniper): Peter grew up in Sandpoint and joined the Magnimarian scout corps. Spent the better part of his teenaged years learning how to pick off enemy officers with a crossbow at long range. Received an honorable discharge but had trouble reintegrating into society; became fascinated by the local goblin tribes and got a reputation as a wild man who lived in the hills and made friends with goblins. After "Burnt Offerings," he learned Thassilonian wizardry from Erylium and multiclassed into wizard (evoker).

Bellis, NG female halfling oracle (waves): One of three identical sisters, Bellis nearly drowned as a child and was saved from the sea by an unknown person. She washed ashore with mild brain damage; whenever she was stressed, she would speak only in Aquan. Over time, she gained increasing powers over the waves and started working as an adviser for the powerful Scarnetti family. Left the party after part 1 to focus on her public service efforts (and redeeming Erylium).

Sibell, CG female halfling summoner: One of three identical sisters, Sibell replaced her sister Bellis as a member of the party at the beginning of part 2. Sibell is far more boisterous than the reserved Bellis, a trait only enhanced by the snide commentary of her eidolon, Aurum, who resembles a man-sized golden dragon.

Groch, CG male half-orc barbarian (drunken brute): Long in competition with Errol for the position of "town drunk," Groch definitely wins out for most arrests and spent the first session of part 2 in the Sandpoint jail. Groch doesn't talk about his past much, only that he had an unpleasant childhood that drove him to drink.

Amareen, CG female elf cleric (Calistria): The elven priestess Amareen came to Sandpoint about four years ago in the hopes of establishing a new church to the Savored Sting after the old temple burnt down. Unfortunately, the backwater people of Sandpoint cared little for the worship of Calistria, so Amareen contented herself with setting up shop in the Pixie's Kitten, the local brothel, and turning her rooms into a private shrine.

Trag, N male dwarf druid (cave druid): Unpleasant, even for a dwarf, Trag prefers the company of slimes, oozes, and rock lizards to that of other humanoids. His only friend is his animal companion, a lizard named Nibbles, and he pretty much liked it that way until he was pushed into working with a bunch of lucky idiots in exchange for a nice new cave on the outskirts of town.

This group is a whole lot of fun, and they have a whole "misfit heroes" vibe that I've really enjoyed playing with. ^_^

Katrina Female Human Druid 10 / Master of Many Forms 3 / Warshaper 2
Nerythalay(sp?) Female Elven Bard 8, Swashbuckler 3, Sublime Chord 4

Human Varesian Rogue, blade-scarf wielding bellydancing beauty. She's used to using her charms to get what she wants, especially out of men (LUST is destined to be her sin, even though she doesn't succumb to it, she uses it to get what she wants). She is the spitting image of Iesha, Aldern Foxgloves murdered wife, and the logical target of his obsessions.

Half-Elf Wizard, eschewing evocation and setting up lucrative business deals on the side (GREED is painted all over this guy). He specializes in using illusions to alter the flow of combat, using buffs to maximize his allies combat potential, and coming up with BADASS plans.

Human Monk, ex-farmer. His "monk weapons" are all farm items, and he has a farming background. His family farm was just "bought" by the Scarnettis, and his family sold into indentured servitude. They're working at the Sandpoint lumber mill, and he'd had several interactions with the manager before the Skinsaw Man murdered him. Immediately suspicious were aroused that this Monk, who had threatened the mill managers and the Scarnettis publicaly and loudly, had committed the crime. (This character is vengeful and holds a grudge, and has WRATH stamped on his forehead)

Human Cleric of... who? He was told in a vision to travel to Sandpoint and worship the god to which the new Cathedral was dedicated. To his confusion, he found that it was dedicated to 5 of the popular good gods. Already something of a basketcase, he cracked a bit further. He worships a different god each day, determined by random die roll. His domain spells shift, as does his roleplaying and motivations. He truly believes that this is his destiny, and that this is no moral conflict, and that he can do honor to each of these gods in turn. His PRIDE will be his downfall, he thinks he's good enough to do anything, and to worship anybody without consequences.
