Regarding the OP question, I'm here 'cause of Dungeon magazine's APs, which I liked the concept. As time went on, I just decided to take a more active role in the messageboards (rather than just reading them).
I've stuck around cause - Paizo's staff and authors frequent the boards, which I find insightful and useful for my games; the people here are witty; and it gives me some gamer perspectives other than my own gamer group.

I had just finished Red Hand of Doom, my first pregenerated adventure in YEARS. My players liked it so much that I decided to go pick up a copy of Dungeon Magazine and, probably, get a subscription. I hadn't read Dungeon or Dragon for quite a while, but I knew they would always be there for me; ready with an awesome adventure or new spells or weapons or whatever I needed... until I saw the "Final Issue" banner on Dungeon #150.
Now, I have never actually gone on a kill-crazy rampage, but standing there in a Hasting's store in mid-Missouri, I came damn close.
I bought the issue, read it from cover to cover and loved it. It was better than I remembered the magazine ever being. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. Sure I hadn't read the magazine for several years, but this was Dungeon and Dragon we were talking about. I felt... well, if you're reading this you know how I felt.
Long story short, I got online to find out the details on this blasphemy and that's how I found Paizo. My only regret is that I wasn't here from the start.

Why did I start coming here: The Superstar contest. I posted a few times before then, but it wasn't until I took part in the superstar contest (and didn't pass the first round) that I started posting here regularly.
WHy did I keep coming here: The community. This group is mature (relatively) and I like the people here (even those I don't agree with).
And the sex is excellent (You should really see Lisa Steven's avitar in a dominatrix outfit!)

My then girlfriend now wife was in Italy for a month (she sings opera) about 2 years ago. I was basiclly bored and roaming the interwebs for some intresting D&D info, and I stumbled into a thread about D&D pet names. I thought it was hilarious and help me kill time that month. I guess I was goofy anuff to stay this long with this motley cure.

I came here first looking for the souls of orphans, but got distracted by the Dungeon and Dragon magazine boards. When I finally got a subscription, just in time for Savage Tide, I got hooked to that section of the boards. Now I ramble about in the Pathfinder section and the Off Topics. Really, I read a lot on the WotC boards, and found some things useful, but only here do I really feel the need to share my ideas. Essentially, you guys got me to post to a messageboard.
That, and every product you make in turn makes me want it ever so much. Too bad my wallet can't afford them all. :)

I bought some minis and later some piratey¹ PDFs. It was not until months later I discovered the message boards. At the time I was feeling rather alienated by the Hero Games boards…maybe because I am a troll. So I started reading then posting.
Why do I stay? Honestly, I haven’t found something better yet. The other major forums are too large and antagonistic. Despite being a troll and with the exception of Sebastian², no one here has told me to go to Hades yet.
¹PDFs about pirates not pirated PDFs.
²Sebastian has not told me to go to Hades in so many words. Implied maybe, but not directly instructed.

Wow, just found out about this Thread.
I came to Paizo because I was lonesome for D&D.
I had moved to another state and hadn't started a new group yet. Going through withdrawl symptoms I did 2 things for the 1st time: write a letter to Prison Mail in Dungeon and then go to their website. I never get to go to websites for fun. Never get to surf at all. For me it's ALL Wikipedia or Dictionary.com.
Well, I bought a ton of stuff when I got here and eventually started looking at the "Messageboards." WTF is a "messageboard"?? I guess I knew stuff like that existed on the web but I'd never seen one.
Now I'm a regular.

How can you tell the difference between his right and left foot with your head so far up his … we interrupt this snarky message to bring you important, breaking news, Chuck Norris is eating breakfast! We will continue to update you throughout the day. We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum troll … so what do you think about that, furry?

I don't know if I posted on this thread before.
I came here because I wanted to write for Dungeon and Dragon mags. Then I got into an argument about point buy versus random character generation and swore I would make a system that had the advantages of both. I believe the response was something like "Yeah. Good luck with that."
So when my article was accepted, I kept coming back here for inspiration. My Dungeon adventure was inspired by a discussion on the WotC boards, but I find it much more congenial here.
I've used other discussions to inspire me for my home game, and it's great to pick up ideas for how to adapt the stuff in Dungeon/GameMastery/Pathfinder.
Now I have to make an effort to limit how much time I spend here.

I used to visit the website to get my Dungeon Magazine supplements (still hoping the the last three) and PDF files of different sorts.
I came to the boards when the news came out that Dungeon and Dragons Magazines were to be discontinued. I hung out waiting for news and trying to impatiently find out what was going on. I have stayed because I love the products Paizo produces and the input of the community.

Yeah, I bet lots of folks would be surprised to know that the "community" is actually just three guys sitting in a room and pretending to be various online characters while they chat with each other.
Well...four, now that you're here.

Don't hold your breathe. :) Since we lost the license, we no longer have the ability to make the web supplements and to put them up on the website. So those last three supplements will never see the light of day unless WotC does them, and with 4e coming down the turnpike, I doubt it is every going to be on the top of their list.

I thought James had said they were done and they were in editing limbo (or some limbo). The last three popped up since the license was pulled. I thought the supplements were outside of that whole fiasco.
And I want to say that I am actually happy for the change because I love Pathfinder and if not for the licensed being pulled we would not have had it.

I came here to subscribe to two of the greats mags around at the time...now with ole Pathfinder burning into my psyche, I keep coming back to read more about Golarion. Planet Stories also has me enthralled - I think Paizo are straight-up people, and I really appreciate the honesty and respect they show for their customers. I used to surf the WoTC boards quite a bit, but am doing so less and less.
Oh, and smurfs.

I originally came here because I was Dungeon subscriber and wanted to follow the discussions on the adventures I was reading.
I've stayed here because currently I'm running Maure Castle and plan to run AoW and ST sometime in the future and I've found that questions usually get answered and sometimes even by the editorial staff, which is cool. And there are lots of nifty ideas by people who have far more free time to work on these things than I do.
However, the rancor and downright nastiness I've been seeing over in the 4e discussions has seriously started turning me off. I'm curious about 4e, so I like to hear what's happening and what people think, but lately, it's almost getting too sad to follow.

I'm here because I really liked Pathfinder, but really wasn't looking to run a 3.x campaign just now. But the True20 conversion sold me, and now I'm hooked. It's cool seeing the opinions of writers and designers I like on the boards, too.
Paizo makes great stuff (I enjoy the GameMastery line), and I enjoy the er....spirited?...4e discussion, because even if I'm really still "neutral" until I play in a demo, I think the entire back-and-forth of it all is really interesting.
(Oh, and I pray nightly that somehow, some way, Paizo will be granted the rights to Greyhawk).

I found the site from renewing Dragon and Dungeon: It was cheaper and faster, and I hate mailing checks. I found the message boards when I wanted to ask errata questions during AoW. I came back on a regular basis to get the PDF supplements for Dungeon, but not daily.
My involvment really only spiked when the magazines were cancelled and Paizo was twenty times more responsive than WotC. I've been around ever since. The blog gives me a reason to check every morning, which keeps me involved.
And RPG Superstar doubled my post count in less than 2 weeks.
I'm not a fan of what I've seen so far for 4E, but the amount of bile and rancor and fanaticism on both sides I've seen is really worrying. I try to stay out of 4E threads. In the end, I know Paizo will do the right thing, so I'm not worried enough to get that upset.

I love this place. I can't remember why I came in the first place (other than being D&D related). The mags actually spurred my interest to return to writing and D&D in general.
The community has been great, but I must admit that while I still check in every day, I've slowed in my posting largely due to the sentiment expressed by GregH.

But, that surely can't keep me away for long (try as you might). XD
Here's to continued good times!

GregH wrote:...it's almost getting too sad to follow.Really? It is that bad? I have seen it get heated because people feel passionately about their game, but nothing more than I have seen in political, religious or the importance of physical appearance debates.
I guess my main point is that I come here to learn about and share experience about a game - something that is supposed to be fun. When I go to the few political/religious forums that I do go to I expect heated discussion. But to come here, and hear people being referred to as "whores", well that pretty much sickens and saddens me. That was pretty close to the tipping point on an already too-caustic series of posts I had read.
If the "debate" that is going on there is fine for you, hey, all the more power to you. But for me, it's just sad.

I find it sad you would let (insert number of threads here) on a message board run you off from the rest of the forum. Don’t let a few bad apples and all that.
Come here. Give me a hug. (squeezing GregH a little too hard)
You'll make my wife a little jealous...
I've not been run off of the boards. But it is getting very disappointing to read some of the stuff that's been posted.
But you'll still find me floating around.

Yes. It seems to get that way. Seems that you cannot have a comment or opinion without getting lambasted by one side or another. Unfortunate that.
I came here for the Dungeon supps, but have totally increased my viewer-ship here with Pathfinder and RPG Superstar.

THE UNTOLD WATCHER STORY
Some of us Paizo folks were wondering: What brought you to our site?
I have a friend who is a freelancer. Primarly for Green Ronin, in the MnM line. He also dabbles in Shadowrun. We his players had an endless stream of non-sequitor one off adventures, making new characters every 3 weeks. We told him we wanted a campaign.
At first, he tried to stitch a bunch of unrelated Earthdawn and Shadowrun adventures together.. but we were forever having to adjust our characters, because these modules weren't intended to be a campaign.
We pointed this out to him. Last summer he went to Gencon, and met the crew and was really impressed by Pathfinder.
But then, he wanted us to start at third level for the first Chapter. We told him we were cool with 1st level, but then he confessed his own bias. He hates DnD as written, and doesn't like 3.5.. and is waiting for 4th edition. He hates the very low levels because they don't feel very heroic to him, and he assumed we had the same bias. Which we sorta didn't.
So I said, "If you hate it so much, why don't I run it instead? You sound pretty burnt out.
So I volunteered. Picked up some Core 3.5 books at a used bookstore and subscribed.
My friend was going to play, but after coming to terms with the fact that he doesn't actually like the system.. he only liked the Pathfinder setting.. he eventually bowed out altogether.
But the group stayed together without him.. and they just finished Foxglove Manor.
What made you decide to participate in our community?
I came here on accident because one of my players wanted to ask a question about how lethal the adventure was...
I saw the response he got, and noticed that the Editor-in-chief answered questions about the product. That's how I got sucked in.
What's keeping you here?
I dunno.. it's like Cheers. Everybody knows me here whether they like me or not. Sorta feels like home.

I've been lurking here for... 2 years, I think. Last thing I remember was a black Paizo-van pulling up besides me. Then I woke up here.
Ehm... I got here by carefully inspecting the subtle clues in Dungeon magazine. I was new to DnD back then, and wanted to order a few things online, since my local gamestore was all "You must play warhammer. Here, play some warhammer. Go on, play warhammer!", but I was all "Dude, no! I want to get my groove on in Cormyr! What do you mean, you don't carry any of that?" And Paizo pretty much had it all.
I kept lurking because a lot of people on the boards had very practical *and* creative ideas about GMing a few adventures I ran. And compared to Some Other Places it's almost as peaceful as a hippy community over here. And I really like to read along some play-by-post games. Fade to Black: Evil in the Forgotten Realms really had my attention, and now Gobbo's Savage Tide is the target of some browser-refresh-action.

Well, I first stumbled on to this site in the aftermath of the Dungeon and Dragon cancellation notice. Although at the time I wasn't a real active gamer, I had kept my subscriptions current to 'keep a foot in' so to speak. As a fairly regular subscriber from 1980 on, their cancellation was a big blow to me.
I was also having a dilemma over MMORPGs. Thanks to a minimal gamer population on Cape Cod, and the fact that due to my daughter's handicapped nature I am unable to travel much, I had not had a face-to-face game since the very early days of 3.0. I had gone to EQ, then WoW for a gaming fix, but the video-gamey nature of it, and the rampant jackassery kind of turned me off. I had finally stopped playing just about the same time the magazines were cut.
I lurked for a while, then I noticed one day a notice for a Planescape game that Mr. Keegan was attempting to put together. The rest, as they say, is history. If I had realized how fun PbPs could be I would have been online years ago. This site has revitalized my gaming.

A couple of people in my gaming group were always talking about stuff they read on the site, so I decided to check it out so I could at least follow the conversation. It was interesting reading all the different ideas and such, so I stayed as a lurker even after they dropped out due to a lack of time. And then I discovered the play-by-post....And now I am hopelessly addicted :)
