<off topic> what the hell is a "buther"? <on topic>

granted, i havent been around very long, but based on what i have read, in no particular order, my list would look like this:

thanis kartaleon (sp?): smart questions, smart answers, good insight, 'nuff said.

ultradan: i have yet to meet a dm who butchered the playing aspect of things, especially one as well-read as he apparently is.

medesha: she owns. she has what i want: enough time to actually write things that can (potentially, in my case) be published. that and she has given smart advice as well.

lilith: another who thinks things out and writes well. write well usually equals speak well, and that is always a good thing in a player.

saern: i gotta say, this one piques my interest, if only to see what gets played, and how.

... you know, i lost my train of thought and forgot my sixth player. i will post later if i recall who it was.

I think that Spyder just left the 'c' out of butcher.

Or he meant that romans are rich and creamy and subbed an "h". UUUUUooohhhh Romans! Marge, why can't we have Romans more.

It's true. The hands make poor places to support a person's weight with spikes. It's very possible that the hands would just rip right off the spike. Of course, that assumes that they let the victim hang from the hands, which was probably unlikely.

But anyway...

Well I guess this would be my six and with little explanation as I have little time at work right now ;) ahhh, the real world is always pushing in on my own fantastical one! Go figure?

1)Ultradan: He is a Canuck and just a fantastic person to read opinions from.

2)Farewell2Kings: MMMMMMMMead! Need there be anymore reason than that! Oh yeah, he has very good views and honest opinions.

3)SexiGolem01: Just seems like a great guy that would be fun.

4)Theacemu: Besides the fact that he helped me alot with a proposal. I think he would make a great wizard. Or at least a loremaster. Well spoken and thougtful.

5)lilith: She seems to have a very unique take on things sometimes and also has a great sense of humour.

6)Dryder: I can't really think of any particular reason, but they just strike me as an interesting sort of person that would be great to adventure with.

So that is my six. I know there are more out there that would be fun to adventure with, but I was limited and so is time.

yes what I meant was butchers, sorry for mangling that...

the main points for cruifiction were the wrists, and the ankles
according to how the cross was positioned, either one or two spikes were used for the ankles...

and yes mike because of the way the bones are positioned in the hands they would simply rip the flesh...

well enough happy thoughts from me

Speaking of "butchered"; I hope you meant that in a nice way, and not butchered as in massacred. I've done some wierd things with the game, but it always turned out ok.

Ultradan

ultradan: yes, i did mean that in a good way, as in i have no reason to believe you would butcher the playing side of things. unless, of course, you happen to be hinting at something...? *grin*

in other news, i realized who my sixth was:
farewell2kings. he says he just spits out his opinion whether its wanted or not, but if that is the case, he has a crack mind at generally good insight. thus, if he can think that fast, he would make a great player, especially in one of my current ideas for a campaign.

Don't worry, we'll just go smoke under the bleachers.

Seems i will be hanging with you smokers

Guess I'm the new kid on the block here. I'll roll my Fort save vs. second hand smoke and join the folks under the bleacher.

Seriously, though, I've enjoyed many people's thoughtful postings--especially the folks who have been mentioned many times over. I've never really considered going to a gamer convention before, but it'd be worth it just to meet a few of you in the flesh, and see how D&D is really played.

Could you guys keep it down? I'm trying to make-out-err play with the six cheerleaders I picked out. Okay I lied, one's a drum majorette.

The ever pithy (like an orange),

Oh, and could you folks smoke outside? I've got this breathing condition and my hair's just going to reek by the time I get home. Thanks.

I'm going the other way, selecting the 6 DMs I really like to game under & the types of campaigns I'd like to see them running (I'm not sure I'd feel competent enough to DM for most of the posters on this site)...

Sir Marcus: a brutal low fantasy 2ed no fudging homebrew...he seems to be fairminded enough to make even dying fun.

Lilith: Planescape-the verve & imagination in her posts show she would bring the millieu to life

Rexx: Greyhawk classics--his greyhawk posts become canon in our campaign

Ultradan: Spelljammer--his exuberance & sense of humour would be like adventuring in Star Trek IV

Farewell2kings: 3.5 epic level homebrew--great overall knowledge of the various incarnations of D & D would allow for an old timer to powergame without becoming rediculous

Tiger Lilly: Ravenloft--her gift for understatement would make her ideal for handling the Realm of Darkness (ie keeping it scary gothic rather than zombie grossout).

While everyone here seems nice I think these guys are cool, helpful and say interesting things...

For the in-week game:

Big Jake (I bet this guys an awsome DM and general nice bloke)
Knight Errant Jnr
Averil
Tequila Sunrise
Goth Guru
Russell Jones

For the weekend game:

ASEO
Lilith
wampuscat43
I’ve Got Reach
Demiurge 1138
Golbez57

:)

Heh heh heh...Have I got an adventure for you. It involves the sickle that was used to castrate Cronos (from the Greek/Roman mythos), one devoted ogre mage cleric of Cronos and one opposing tiefling cleric of Zeus named Hircus Incendere. And a really big cast of supporting characters.

Now hand over your weapons berk! We'll have you dancing on air faster than a hellcat running from Cerebus - you simply do not under any circumstance attack a dabus in Sigil. No, I don't care who you are or where you're from. You're in Sigil now - you're nobody.

:-D

Thanks to all for responding...I think the pick your 6 has been a success for a number of reasons, leading to several observations:
1. Reading through the responses on this thread should give a good snapshot of those in this forum command the most respect AND for what reasons.
2. Those who responded with rationales have indicated what strengths that individual posters are perceived to have. For those seeking advice for certain aspects of the game, one can perhaps weight the opinions of some over the opinions of others.
3. Frequency of posting seems to carry some weight in constructing a "virtual" persona which makes sense. The more data points that one has to assess with, the more accurate that assessment will be. A comparitive analysis can be administered among frequent posters, but the transient or infrequent poster can be difficult to place comparitively...perhaps leading to a marginalization of his/her response.
4. There is an element of posters who are perceived as having some of the most desired insights/knowledge bases/creativity/etc. of those who post on these boards. This can be categorized as "expertise." Understand who those folks here are that are regarded as thus and note for what reasons. These are considerations that should be taken into account for the multiplicity of topics that are discussed on these boards.

In short, it is important to understand not only what is being stated, but who is stating it.

It is so hard to choose because of all the kind people that post their opinions and answer questions here. I will say that I would pay good money to watch Rexx DM his AoW Greyhawk game! In the meantime, I brought the Kalamanthis so I will see you guys under the bleachers.

If this was some experiment to see why everyone likes Ultradan, F2K, Lilth, ect. I think I could have saved you some time.

Not everyone likes Ultradan. There was this one kid, back when I was in second grade (when I went by the pseudo-name Minidan), who used to pick on me on my way to school every morning... Anyway, I didn't like him either.

So your arch-nemesis liked to pick on you before your super-powers manifested also. Now you are a superhero and must follow that damnable code about not using your powers for your own gain. Pity, that. I feel your pain fellow herpie cream on the cold-sore of crime.

Nice thread so far, and funny moments, too!

I don´t know whom I should pick.
F2K obviously (thanks for including me), but then ?
There are lots o´ nice people here, so I should perhaps make a table and roll some dice to choose. Would be very much in keeping with our hobby, so thats probably the best method :-)

Gamers as random encounters ? ;-)) What are your CRs ? ;-)

(As an aside, the generally friendly tone on these messageboards keeps me coming back - more so that to the messageboards of another unnamed big game company, where the tone cam be much more harsh at times)

Well duh.

Ah sociology. Why didn't you just say? Personally I like anthropology better -less assumptions. Really this is too few and too skewed a set of points to really mean much -as much as I like being high on the list and all. ::Blush:: As you point out I type a lot. But it is not so much a matter of me typing a lot, but where I type. There are only so many threads that I or any number of other folks visit frequently and then depending on the topic. For instance I'm almost never in the Adventure Path threads, but they are wildly popular with other people. I suspect that a lot of honest players try to avoid the threads of games they might play in. And then there is the fact that some people tend to stick to one mag or the other and might not ever see or care about this thread. My care was purely ego related. And then there are the "lurkers" (right MiKe?), who only posted once or twice or only in one or two threads, but maybe do so very well, worthy of recognition. As flattered as I am, and I am, I really don't know that this thread really tells me anything I didn't already know - namely that werecabages rule, I spend too much time here, and that top ten lists and popularity contests still kinda bug me.

Geez, going for a new record, are we? Ok, I'll bite.

Orthos
Tacticslion

Tangent101
FreeholdDM
DeathQuaker

These are all people who I could see being great friends with and having a great time around the table.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Man I couldn't even pick, there are too many people here who would be awesome to have in game.

I am going to say though that if I could have a sit-down-and-brainstorm session with Mikaze, Ambrosia Slaad, Mike Welham/Taig/Rawr, DM Dudemeister, and Icyshadow, we could cook up some crazy worldbuilding.

This is hella biased, since I know a fair number of people on these forums IRL, but here's my list:

Sharoth, Taig/Mike Welham, Moorluck, Solnes, Kruelaid, Patrick Curtin
