Well... I finally downloaded the PDF. And... I'm disappointed.

But... *gasp*, didn't you see all those stat blocks man!?! Details I don't have to flesh out. True, some of the material is repeated but the overview and other tidbits made the grade.

Well...I guess it goes to show you can't please everyone all the time.Me for one and many more of us are grateful, thank you very much for your hard work.

Printing it out now, before I read it.

What I saw seems to be exactly what I wanted, though I'll of course need to read the material before judging it's worth. I really wish it had been able to find room in the magazine though, it would have been nice to have a cool glossy version.

WOW! Nice job guys! This is exactly what I needed. Well worth the wait and the enjoyable thread.

GOODBYE INK CARTRIDGE! HELLO JOY!

You have to love the Net. I get up on a freezing Saturday morning. The sun's shining in a blue sky (even if it is only 10C) and when I log on after breakfast, I find I received an Email at 4:30 this morning telling me Overload was ready. (Ta for that Dungeon People)

Now if only the little download thingy would count faster....

Get a reasonably priced laser printer. I got an HP Laserjet 1000 a couple of years ago, and it is by far my favorite computer peripheral.

And... love the download. Thanks!

I was reading through the stat blocks and I noticed that there were no stats for Mr. Dourstone. I think it would have made sense to include his stats and I am very disappointed that they were not there. After all, he is an essential character in 3FoE (where his stats were also not included) and I think all of the other Mine Managers are on there.

PS: I was wondering what the CR on Kyuss will look like, just curious.

Dourstone slipped through the cracks, it looks like.

As for Kyuss... he has yet to be statted up. His CR will be significant. It'll be over 20, is what I mean.

So how did Tirra get such a godly Intelligence score? I mean, 110! That's insane. She's smarter than Boccob. The odd thing is that you'd think that her skills would reflect that. But it seems she's suffering a huge circumstance penalty, probably because all the gods are mad at her for being so smart.

In case you didn't get it that was a joke. I know it's a typo but a funny one nonetheless. Am I correct in assuming her Int is supposed to be 10?

Yes.

Will we be getting a stat block for him?

So much relief here on this thread now... ;)

Man, I just printed it out and it really looks cool. As I realized, that I didn't find everything I'd hoped for (more art, some floorplans and maybe a little map) I had to remind myself that there are still 9 more adventures with stuff, maps arts and whatnot in the magazines to come!
What's really usefull is the campaign outline. Man, such a thing helps so much!!!

Anyway, this Overload is awesome and helps so much in preparing the campaign, which I am to start earliest beginning of 2006... sad it is, and strange as well, that I checked this site everyday a couple of times, where I do have so much time to wait for the thing to be downloadable. But now I have it and, probably as the thousands poster -
THANK YOU GUYS ! ! !
You did it, and you did it well, be sure of this! This will be a hell of a campaign, I know!

Very nice. The Npcs are perfect for my non-AP game.

Hi there!

Compliments to everyone who participated in creating the AoW Overload. :-) I just viewed it and am happy about it.

I am pleasantly surprised by the amount of information squeazed into these 29 pages. Thank you for keeping your readership in mind, making this download a treasure trove of information when preparing the AoW adventures.

I read part of this thread (as long as it did not start to repeat on itself). In my opinion it is not self evident that a company spends so much effort on a free 29 page addendum (in comparision: have a look at WotC's recent new books - less content (page count, fonts size), same price tag). Neither do I see halos around the Paizo stuff's heads, though. ;-)

There is the subject of timeliness of publishing after announcing the AoW Overload. Replies in this thread for sure hit mark and did hurt! I understand, though, that Paizo was willing and able to learn from mistakes in the recent past (delivery to Europe!), so I am positive that future publishing estimations will be more thoroughly planned. ;-)

Keep on improving Dungeon and Dragon, and repeating something many readers mention time and again: I have the impression that Dungeon does keep on improving on itself. I did not think so all the time (reader since issue #85), but certainly do so now. Dungeon never contained as much material usable by this humble dm. ;-)

Greetings from Cologne, Germany,
Guenther

Yeah.

YAHOOOOOOOOO!!!

Cheers to all at Dungeon for this awsome supplement.

And to those disappointed, remember it says updates to the Overload will come out as the adventures continue...so maybe it will eventually have what you need.

The NPC stats are the best and the specific info for the FR conversions of each of the first two adventures is helpful.

My question is will the future instalments of the web enhancements have the FR/Ebberon conversion notes for the new adventures?

Sweeeeeeeeeet

Great job fellas, t'ank ye

In all fairness you have to consider the stuff that is made available almost daily, for free, on WotC's website. Some of that material is golden. My favorite example of this is the Mind's Eye articles that came out before the release of the Expanded Psionics Handbook. That is a perfect example of support for a sourcebook far above and beyond the call of duty. I think the combined document containing all the source material from Mind's Eye articles is on the order of 80 pages long. That is, 80 pages worth of powers, feats, prestige classes, and psionic items that all had a high standard of production and were every bit as good as the things that appeared in the Psionics Handbook itself. I think it is awesome that Paizo includes the online supplements (in fact I had a letter highly commending them on it that showed up in Dungeon several issues back), but they are not the only company that does it, nor are they the only company that does it well. Have you seen the recent Undermountain stuff? It's sweet.

Hmm, when you make it, please o please post Kyuss'es stats! It may seem odd but one of my hobbies is reading epic statblocks! lol.

O my O My! Wooooooo. We reached 595 posts and got the overload on Friday! Erik, you Dungeon Editor Hero! Much thanks for all the work. This will help me bunches! Keep on with the great work!

Ric

Sadly, it seems this thread has ground to a screeching halt since the overload went up. Shame really. Maybe everyone is just too busy reading.

Just curious... but the pdf file says Section 1. Is there a Section 2? And the Overload was originally said to be 40+ pages... what happened to the rest of them? (I can think of one way that the page count shrunk, without losing content... but I wonder if that is what happened.)

How bout a Kyuss mini, are you going to make one of those?

Almost at...

600!!!

Just tie a couple of earthworms together and throw them on the battlemat. Paint 'em green first, if you want.

Regards :)

Sigh.

~nods~ I know. I know.

Sadly, it's a burden I must bear daily. Oh well... stupid users call. I must go boil some more spaghetti and then throw it in the freezer.

Well as per Erik's suggestion in Overload I said to h with it, searched on the 'Net, and found myself a used copy of the City of Greyhawk boxed set for the Free City in Overload.
I saw Denis Tetreault's Greyhawk web page (http://melkot.com/locations/cogh/cogh.html) and was thoroughly suckered into getting the boxed set.

However, I refuse to get Monsters of Faerun for further details on the Emporium Shag Solomon Quaggoth NPC on pg. 17 of Overload, so I changed Shag to an Ibixian Goatfolk from MM3 on pg. 63 (a book which I happen to have).

I'm going to use Shag as a contact for the 1/2 elf rogue in the party, as the PC also is employed by the Emporium. A kobold named Keepo that was "on display" in the Gallery of Science of the Emporium has escaped. Basically, this is an alteration of the Rumors Table on page 22 of the Overload (Rumor #10). Bogodor (not Shag) is paying 100gp for the capture of Keepo. Shag on the other hand, has developed an affinity for the little bugger and asks the rogue PC as a personal favor to make sure Keepo stays "escaped." Shag asks that the PCs intercept a bounty hunter that is tracking Keepo a mile north of Diamond Lake.
What the PCs eventually run into is an Ettercap that has captured both Keepo and the bounty hunter. The ettercap has made its home in a cairn known as "The Barrow." The ettercap has large monstrous spider as a pet.
One of the already devoured corpses in the lair is a cultist of the Ebon Triad with a note on his person that reads as follows: "The goblin will accomadate us with more sacrifices. Seek him in the copse south of the road to Elmshire. He should have some suitable offerings for us. (signed) T."
The note was penned by Theldrick, the priest in 3FOE.
Of course, the PCs won't know any of this unless they go to Elmshire, find the copse, and capture the Silent Wolf Goblin (from the Aberrations D&D mini collection, see the card). The goblin can reveal to the PCs that he was hired by a priest of Hextor to gather living sacrifices of halflings for his temple. The goblin met the priest at the Menhir site near Elmshire Road (NW fringe on Diamond Lake map). That's all the goblins knows. This should give the PCs the idea that something sinister is afoot. Also in the copse are 2 halfling children that are weak and tied and bound; captured by the goblin, they were to be taken by the cultist to the Dourstone mine and sacrificed. Again, the PCs won't find this information.
If the PCs deliver the children back to Elmshire, they'll gain the gratitude of the mayor, Opee Caller, as well as the families of the children, the Moonpaths and the Wakefellows.

So whaddya all think of that as a sidequest? And it was all inspired by the Overload!!

Not sure about the Section 1 and Section 2 thing.

BUT... the 40+ pages were how big the file was in the word document. We can fit more pages on a word in the actual magazine than we can in a single page of a word document. Nothing was cut or lost in the transition from Word to InDesign to Magazine.

Speaking of typos--I think Valkus Dun is gonna be pretty pissed when he learns that his assistant (don't remember the guy's name) actually worships Pelor!

Overall, pretty decent pdf, but it seems some of the chronoligy has been changed. For example, Overload states that the Whispering Cairn was rediscovered 3 years ago, while the adventure says 10. Also, OL claims Alastor died 10 years ago as opposed to 30 in the WC. Are these figures right or are they also typos--If Alastor died 10 years ago, his family was already dead.

I figured it was something like that. I was personally thinking of a reduction in the size of the font would shrink the size by several pages.

The section 1 thing is something that's on the bottom of the toolbar for Adobe Acrobat. With a normal file, (read: any other AA file I have,) there is no section mentioned. On Overload, there is... that's why I was asking.

The difference in chronology is due to the fact that the outline existed before the final adventures, and certain things were changed around a bit in that process. I am certain that the final adventures will not adhere 110% to this outline in terms of specifics, but it should be a good marker of where the campaign is headed in general terms.

Think of the outline in Overload as a "shooting script" for a movie. It's pretty darn close, but if you study it hard enough you'll probably notice a handful of differences. Most of these will be cosmetic.

I've already committed to releasing updated versions of the Overload file as more and more conversion appendices become available (although I can't promise this will happen every month--the appendices debut in the individual issues' online supplements as normal).

It's possible that I'll fix minor differences like some of the chronology during this process, but please don't start agitating for it in the short term.

I need a little rest. ;)

The red death struck in CY 576 (for those playing GH). It was detailed in the module WG8-Fate of Istus. So if you are playing in CY 595 (the year AoW begins if you are playing in WoG) then the plague struck 19 years ago and Alastor had to have left before then. The are dates on the Land gravestones that indicate this. I can't answer for some of the other chronological events though.

Just got done reading AOW OVERLOAD, very nice overall. Not trying to kiss butts, buuuut this is the kind of support that such a grand campaign needs, and anothe reason why I'm a Dungeon subscriber. Keep up the good work guys, your work and dedication is much appreciated!

I actually think all the arena stuff is lame. I hope they are written more interesting when the issues come out.

Erik, and all the folk at Paizo,

a big thanks for the Overload. It is a great work, and the art I like very much.

So once again, thanks.

As a whole it was great, but my favorite part was the overview, that thing was sweet!

argh..it was a slow day at work, I decided it was safe to use the laser printer. It literally takes 30 minutes to print and soon people are agitating wondering why their stuff isn't coiming through. I dejectedly cancel the order after page 20, and figure lets use the fancier color printer that no one uses. Two minutes later I have all 29 pages in beautiful color.

My only beef, where is the Kingdom of Redhand located? I would have prefered this being one of the bandit Kingdoms or something ..for the love of Oerth don't place it in Hepoland or someplace where hextor is not likely to be worshipped. Remember, Hextor is an Oerdian god.

Redhand's on the northeast shore of the Nyr Dyv.

Is it a good idea have adventure summaries for the next year? I mean the Overload practically tells everything whats going to happen in the entire campaign arc. And thats something players don't need to know.

Players shouldn't be downloading and reading the Overload anyway, any more than they should read the adventure outline in any other adventure.

We didn't post adventure summaries for the first Adventure Path, and we (rightly) caught a lot of flak from DMs who wanted to foreshadow future events or wanted to know what NPCs would be important later on. The summary for Age of Worms is intended to address this need.
