Ya know, its kinda nice they are returning to Katapesh :'D The city was never really explored after Legacy of Fire, and that ap didn't get hardcover update... (I actually wanna play that one even though everyone nowadays cares only about kingmaker or second darkess updates)

Aha, James noted afterward in a different thread what this volumes ancestry “theme” is.
Each if the volumes had one of the Core Rulebook ancestries as a thematic inspiration—not a “Thou shalt use naught but these creatures” but rather a “This adventure deals with an area with many of these people, so be sure to incorporate several of them and play with their ancestral themes” idea. #149 is associated with gnomes, which is one reason why I’m the author for the volume; I find gnomes pretty dang cool. Katapesh was also the first region I became excited about in the Pathfinder setting, so this project’s been really fulfilling to work on.

Oh neat!
Does this build perhaps on the Yavipho gnomes from Gnomes of Golarion in northern Katapesh? They only had a short blurb, but they stuck in my head all these years because they were intriguing.

Dark Markets remains one of my favorite PF books. Big recommendation.

So where would one look for this information should they have only recently jumped into pathfinder?

The book on Katapesh is Dark Markets: A Guide to Katapesh. It has maps and everything.
The info from the book is summarized on the Pathfinder Wiki, but it doesn't go into near as much detail.

For a great overview of the world setting, I recommend getting the Lost Omens World Guide. It’s the latest take on our setting, and it has about a page on Katapesh.
For a deep dive on Katapesh, one of the earliest Campaign Setting books was Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Dark Markets: A Guide to Katapesh. It’s a 64-page book that includes a map of Katapesh, a look at scores of sites in the city, and an overview of the surrounding territory.

So I liked two previous issues, but found hard to comment on them. 3rd issue for the "investigate criminals and find them" premise is hard to comment on without playing it and 4th book since its mostly dwarven dungeon crawling where my favourite part was the dwarf focus simply because its refhresing to me because I have barely seen any dwarf ruin adventures.
This book on otherhand :O Definitely gonna review it, it has so much school stuff returning in it as well

I suspect it'll take us time to fully transition out of using the word "race" in our text. For now, if you see it in print, assume it slipped through the cracks and should have read as "ancestry" though...
...ESPECIALLY in the context of something in 1st edition that was a playable PC option. Caulborns were not and I can't see us ever doing them as a player ancestry, so from that stance it's a non-issue.
CorvusMask |
Ah, okay, so the term ancestry doesn't mean they might be pc ancestries eventually?
Well I still gotta hope for minotaur ancestry along with other stuff listed as "Other Ancestries" in Lost Omen Character Guide :'D
(that said, definitely agreeing that caulborn wouldn't work out as pc ancestry. They are super alien hivemind, they wouldn't have much reason to adventure and even then they aren't singular character)

So I'm currently rereading this again in order to review it, but umm I think i spotted few editing mistakes I wanted to comment about:
First thing I noticed is that djinni vizier Palqari's picture is clearly angry looking efreet, which makes me wonder if picture was intended for Altshal Gha.
"even those are starting to falter as he comes to believe
this is his fate." ends one paragraph and next one begins
"from the PCs to get Mekrem to admit his suspicions
that the Scarlet Triad is behind his woes."
Umm, I think something like "Diplomacy x check from the PCs" got cut off by editing?

Who is the artist that did the NPC portraits in this volume, such as Satla, Ephiminia, Exavisu, and Palqari? I absolutely love them.
In that vein I wish the artist credit for each picture was easy to figure out, instead of just the general “interior artist” list at the beginning of the volume. Or maybe this exists somewhere?
