Gotcha Hakiri, thanks for letting me know.
Marco: the tavern and inn are separate places, fyi. If you're in the inn (where Suny and co. are) you're not in the tavern (where Caln went to canvas for clues).
<confused>So where does one go for a bite of food and a relaxing drink? .... note carefully the lack of a closing "confused" tag, as I'm still confused.... I suspect I'm actually in the tavern, instead of the inn. I don't need a room, but I do need a brewski.

Jethro. |

Jethro: the beer is one of the best forms of escape that Freedom Town possesses. They lack the resources for a large-scale brewery, but there is a small brewery behind the tavern, in a separate building for employees only. The beer is famously strong, even if it sacrifices flavor in the name of alcoholic potency. Think of the equivalent of a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster as a beer.
Ah. I think I've been to that bar.

Arwen McLyntier |

actually i do have some interest but going like a pack of flies don't serve any purpose. Enough people are going to see him, his office is going to be overcrowded.
Arwen is going to read the report files on the subject and the orc settlement in the sheriff's office.

I'm amused that we were asked to make characters who "will be working for the Sheriff of Freedom Town ... as his deputies, and he will be tasking you with assisting with matters of Freedom Town security and interest."
Strangely, the three people who work for him are starting to feel more and more like set dressing and the four people who don't are going on the adventure.
Just funny how that looks like it worked out.
I'll be here, getting the horses, while you guys discover all of the secrets in the underground laboratory.

DM Frogfoot |

Well, the ambitious and go-getter deputies will be prominent players in the setting, and those who allow themselves to be set pieces will become set pieces. That's how it's always been. :)
Also:
Also, I thought that untrained knowledge checks were possible if the DC were 10 or less.
This is correct. Knowledge may be used two ways in this campaign:
1. In response to a prompt from me, if the DC is 10 or below or you're trained in the relevant skill.
2. In an attempt to "create clues" for the campaign by "remembering" something you've "learned" in-character. This can only be used for knowledge skills you are trained in - or, you can try an untrained knowledge attempt, but it will only net you information that is rated at a DC10 or less.

Alrighty. Doing what I was told to do and keeping the honesty of the narrative benches me in the GM's eye. That's pretty rough.
I got the feeling I'm supposed to go after the dude who was with Ironfist, but honestly, a guy who was talking to someone in a shop-- not very suspicious when you don't catch the under-the-table money deal. He took off. He didn't even say anything _and_ he's shorter than me.
Oh well. Deputies represent!

DM Frogfoot |

Oh man, don't take it like that! I did not intend for it to sound like that to you at all dude. Besides, you aren't benched. Use your imagination! The guy's gone, but the person he was originally talking to - someone you know from before, in fact - is still in the shop. Ask questions of him if you'd like to explore that further, or pursue the man who left. You have options for adventure that don't have to involve the doctor's office. That's all I meant to say. :)

DM Frogfoot |

And also, I understand that you're not facing many hooks during your horses errand in the stable. You didn't make the perception roll, and nothing looks suspicious. Don't worry. I hadn't described your scene in great detail yet because more people were gathered for the Doc's, but I hadn't forgotten your situation.
For everyone, I've updated the campaign info tab with a (crude) map of the center square of Freedom Town. I am a storyteller, not a mapmaker, so just remember that's it's a reference.

I'm back from vacation.
So to clarify...
My assignment was actually to stand on the sidelines and watch the other players.
First of all, ouch.
And then, I'm sidelined because I wasn't ambitious enough pursuing my task of standing on the sidelines?
Double ouch.
I guess the obvious solution is to watch more ambitiously.
I know, don't take it like that, play the hand you're dealt.

.Suny. |

*HUGZ*
Wishin' every one all-a-very bestest! (^_^)

At the risk of saying "don't take it like that,...." I think the reason you were put in front of the mirror was precisely because you were away on a micro-vacation for a few days; now that you're back, I'm sure that you can put the mirror down and do something. Similarly, watching the other players doesn't (to me) imply "don't do anything except watch the other players."
If you'll notice, not much else has actually happened to any of us -- but the "ambitious" group has simply managed to generate more description and dialogue. (I think the sum total of my actual actions in this game so far has been to blow on a whistle.)
If you want to teleport to the doc's, interrupt Jethro before he goes into his monologue, and instead begin a Cthonic summoning ritual in Verne's basement,.... well, I'm cool with that.

.Suny. |

*HUGZ* The poor, despondent Orc lass.
Oh! Ritual....That means dancin', right?

.Suny. |

*Power glomps Caln* (^_^)

DM Frogfoot |

Suny: Ausk indicated during your meeting with the Sheriff that he'd like to set out for the ruins before it got too dark and I didn't see any dissent. I was just going off that plan. If you wanted to stay the night/socialize in Freedom Town you should suggest that to the others and see what they think. :)

.Suny. |

Ah! Okeys then! (^_^)

DM Frogfoot |

Hakiri hasn't posted in over two weeks. I don't know whether it's because the player is angry at me for my comment earlier or whether he's busy with something IRL or what, but my posting guidelines were pretty clear when I began the campaign. If Hakiri doesn't post in the next couple of days I will bring in a replacement via retcon. Just wanted to make sure you all were aware.

.Suny. |

*Crosses fingers and wishes Hakiri all the best*
I must admit real life has bee treating me poorly. On top of a rather bad case of flue I've also been involved in a very minor car accident.
I do hope things are better for Hakiri's player.
Wishing every one all the very best.

.Suny. |

*Bows* Glad I am to be makin' such an impression. (^_^)
Also, interesting/amusing/amazing work with whom ever you've placed as a picture there, Master DM Frogfoot.
I rilly do hope Hakiri's okay. Any word to any one as to whether she's coming back? :(
Very much cheers to one and all.

.Suny. |

Whom ever the lass in the picture is, yes the image certainly does show a chipper attitude.

Caln |

Whom ever the lass in the picture is, yes the image certainly does show a chipper attitude.
Her armor class is horrible though ;->

.Suny. |

*Laughs*
Not if'n she has lots'a levels in Monk. ;)
Very much best cheers to every one.

DM Frogfoot |

I also just noticed it now, what with how exciting everything has been, but we're on post 533 - now 534 - of our gameplay campaign in the gameplay thread! We broke 500 posts! It's especially more impressive when you consider the roleplaying introduction that you all did here in the Discussion thread. A reward is in the pipes for you guys as a thank-you for being so consistent - that's pretty rare for a PbP RPG.

Gryndar Grogslayer |

I'm enjoying it for sure, even though I've only been part of the group for a short while.
Sure did like the fact that even though I made the good stealth roll, Marco solved his poor roll with his blade.
We make a good team, Thug-o!
