Or ones where I can have princesses that tame linnorms with loots?!
What about princesses who catch dragons by their tail, and start a band with the dragon playing the bass?

Ectar wrote:No idea about the gold though. They like shiny stuff? Outside of Pathfinder's Fafnheir I don't actually know of any Linnorms that keep loot piles. Body piles on the other hand...Thinking about it, I actually DO like the pure combatant v.s. the spell user for most dragons. Save the "smart" dragons for the intrigue or longer story games. Use linnorms for a terrifying monster that (for some reason) still sleep atop mounts of gold. Anyone have an explanation for that?
Probably not the 'real' Pathfinder reason but I remember reading some essays on Norse myth that suggested dead kings and jarls buried with their wealth were believed to turn into dragons after death, guarding their hoard out of residual greed and killing to sate their bloodlust.

The linnorm entry on the PRD for bestiary 3 says (among other things) "Sweeping bones and treasures alike into giant piles in its lair, the typical linnorm has a barbaric nature made all the worse by its insatiable greed and atrocious gluttony"
skipping several interesting paragraphs...." Linnorms are prone to gorging and then falling into a deep sleep near their treasure hordes, waking either when they become aware of intruders in their vicinity or to feed once more."So it seems they DO keep piles of treasure. Though, it almost feels like they just kind of heap all of their stuff together, maybe without regard for value?
Perhaps they use their accululated treasure to lure greedy adventurers into their lair so they can eat the squish bodies and get more loot to attract MORE adventurers!
It's like the linnorm is getting paid to eat.
Perhaps linnorms value relics of vanquished foes as much as they value conventional treasure?
Edit: Ooo, this gives me a really creepy idea for an archetype(s).

Rysky, I asked James Jacobs in his AMA thread.
Ectar wrote:
Why do linnorms keep treasure piles? The "linnorm" preamble from B3 colors them as being most interested in eating and wanton destruction, but it also definitely also has them keeping treasure hordes.
Because treasure pile keeping is kind of one of the themes for dragons, regardless of their type. You can still be interested in eating and destruction and keep a pile of loot at home.

@Eric Henkle, I've heard it postulated that dragons sleep on piles of gold because it is relatively soft (for a metal. And when you're covered in armor plating, what ISN'T soft by comparison?), but it's dense enough and with a high enough melting point that it won't be destroyed by light flame/acid/cold/lightning being snored onto it.
It's silly, to be sure, but I've given it as an explanation to some of my PCs when they asked, and it was enough of a reason for them. At least, for the dragons that are somewhat less avaricious than the others.
After hearing that reasoning, the party tracked down a sleeping fjord linnorm by finding where the ice chunks were floating to the surface from its snoring.

That... actually makes a lot of sense!
Kinda like how dogs and cats will dig and pull the sheets until they get a nest up to their standards made from your bed. Man, no wonder dragons get pissed when you mess with their gold.

(I meant it! Apsu is The Water Lord's father as much as The Brackish Emperor is The World Serpent's brother. They aren't telling you that, BUT! Fresh water... Water dragons...).
With that I end my blasphemy spell...
... Ok, I'm already satisfied with "the good linnorm" who trains wannabe gladiators. That said, maybe this is what the Dragonheir Scion archetype is all about? Fighter or Brawler?

Ooooo....
...
As cool as the non-spoilered stuff would be in the blog it wasn't mentioned that the Linnorm was good. Or if it took on more than apprentice...
TOTALLY KICKASS IF IT'S TRUE THOUGH.

I just watched The Good Dinosaur with my wife yesterday, so, just maybe, that is where this came from... XD
We could totally say it's an evil linnorm training his broken soul pet gladiators and sending them around the world to fulfill his hidden evil agenda. *---*
But i'm still waiting for the Dragonheir Scion to be a knight archtype... I JUST NEED A DRAGON RIDER ARCHETYPE!
