TOS in all its iterations I've used thus far have been awesome. Looking forward to see how it plays with 2E.

Who has a +5 weapon at level 5? I thought we were comparing comparable level characters. If you're looking at a character that should be wielding a +5 weapon vs a 5th level caster with a 3rd level fireball you're not looking at apples and forks you're looking at apples and hand grenades. Even then max damage on that melee with no str bonus or extra damage runes attached to the weapon is 36d12 is 432. If that fireball lands on an area where all 44 squares of the 20 foot burst are filled with a single creature each and then none of them make their save not even critcally fail their save just don't make it (and I know that's so unlikely it's silly to even think) that's 44(6d6) Maxed would be 1,584 granted that is spread over 44 creatures so really it's only 36 each but it's still more damage output. You know what I will modify my statement - A Single melee character of 5th level will always have less total damage potential than a 5th level caster releasing a 3rd level fireball on a group. It's still an unfair comparrison any way you shape it 1 to 3 targets vs as many as you can fit in a 20 foot burst. If you want to compare Melee vs Caster it should be on single target attacks but even then totally different roles so it'sstill not a good comparison. You're comparing a firefighter and a cop. *Edit - I had calculated the number of squares incorreclty in that 20 foot burst - I shouldn't math and lunch at the same time.
A single melee regardless of 1-3 attacks landing will ALWAYS do less damage than a 3rd level fireball... unless your caster does something stupid and fireballs a single target instead of a group. The other side of that also is that if the target makes a crit success on their save they're sitting there all comfy now that their undies are dryer fresh warm and toasty and have tken 0 damage from the fireball. Gone are the days of that only happening for those with evasion and improved evasion EVERYTHING has that chance now. Comparing a limitless attack (melee can swing all day long) against a single target, and a limited attack (only so many 3rd level spells) against a 20 foot area is like comparing apples and forks. I'll agree maybe the -10 on third and subsequent attacks is a little much. Perhaps it should be Full bonus 1st attack, Full bonus -2 for the 2nd attack, and Full - 5 for 3rd and subsequent.
I think I already can guess the answers but I'd rather have Official confirmation than assume and find out I don't know what the heck I'm thinking after all. Standard Table Limits? 4-6 preferable - 3 allowed with somebody (or the party in consensus) controling a pregen, 7 allowed if there is no other option but anything greater or fewer is right out? Does it have to be an "Official event" at a gamestore or con? Or can it be demos ran anywhere? I assume that all participants will need an organized play number for reporting purposes. Age limits on playtesting for Society? I have a ten year old daughter that loves to play that is interested in society. Any other minutia that we need to be mindful of to keep reporting as hassle free for players, GMs, and Paizo alike?
I've played in plenty of games from a variety of publishers where the GM has said no to "x" that is core be it class or race. Elves exist you just can't play one. It's up to each DM to decide what they will allow and what not, then it's up to eaach player to decide whether the provisions in that GMs social contract are acceptable. Nobody is making anyone roll a Goblin. They are saying hey you can play one. I want kobolds as a core am I throwing a fit and leaving game becaue they are not? Nope still here. I think the idea of playing "monstrous" races sounds cool as hell and I can't wait for more to integrate. All these books are doing is giving you a formula for pretend. Don't dump on someone else's fantasy.
So as long as they have the pages (with paizo watermark), or tablet, or laptop with it on it as long as it is hardware I am the owner of (it's not being transferred to another person it's still on hardware I own or otherwise I'd need a copy for each tablet and laptop I own or to move it instead of copy between devices) it's all good. Roger that.
I picked up several PDFs last year (legal and watermarked to me) and this year started Society play. The wife is thinking of joining me in Society play. Do my legal watermarked PDFs count for her as well. If we're at the same table I honestly wouldn't think it an issue, but if we were at different tables do I actually need to buy her the PDFs as well or as we share a last name would my watermark count for her as well on her tablet or laptop? My youngest is also interested in gaming and one day might join society as well would the three of us be legal with just my legal watermarked PDFs or would there need to be multiple watermarks to be considered legal? We're going with the PDFs for ease of use and portability, I used to carry all my 3.5 library with me to each session and that was tiring and heavy, and Pathfinder is now a fairly large catalog of books as well. I know this is likely answered somewhere else as I cannot have been the first to ask this question in 8 (9 including season 0) seasons of play. So if this counts as a duplicate post I apologize I was just on lunch with a couple minutes to spare and was wondering. |
