My reply to you was misleading. Not everyone at our table has played every AP. But among the 7 of us, every AP has been played by at least one of us. The struggle is finding something that no one has played. We’re currently playing through Tyrant’s Grasp, but that’s the last of Paizo’s APs that none of us has played. Once that’s finished, we’ll need to find something new… and we’ll need to look beyond Paizo’s products.

I’m in the same boat as you, Postal Apocalypse. I have to request all of an upcoming year’s vacation at the end of the preceding year. I had the time off for PaizoCon, but when it was announced they currently had no tickets for anyone who hadn’t bought tickets for 2020’s convention (and I hadn’t because of the pandemic), I gave all of those vacation days back; I’ll just roll them over to next year. I am disappointed, but I’ll get over it; thankfully, I hadn’t bought any airline tickets, so I’m out nothing but fun.


Please cancel all of my subscriptions.

Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately, I only have Sundays free between now and SkålCon and only three of them at that. I'm scheduled to run a scenario a week from Sunday, but it's a holiday weekend and only two players are signed up so far. If that falls through, I'm free the two Sundays after that and hopefully something of the appropriate tier will be offered; I'd even use a replay, if needed.

I just received Order 7963509. Instead of Pathfinder Flip-Mat: The Fall of Plaguestone (part of the Pathfinder Map subscription to which I am subscribed), I received the 2nd Ed. module, The Fall of Plaguestone (part of a subscription to which I am not subscribed).

My order history shows the correct item being shipped, but that is not what I received.

Please let me know what I may need to do to rectify this situation.

My bag was a mix of both. I got a box of the Alien Archive pawns and a book from one of the Starfinder APs. I believe the swag bags were constructed from an assortment of products from both games and just handed out randomly.

That game and that dinner are one of the highlights of my con. My crippling social anxieties make it almost impossible for me to meet new people, so I rely on others to help make introductions. Thanks, Hilary.

(And after listening to all of that night’s stories, I may have to make another attempt at PbP; sounds like an excellent stress-free way to meet new people and would probably improve my future PaizoCon experiences.)


For the past few cons, there hasn’t been any Thursday night badge pick-up. Not even for GMs. They have, however, pulled those GMs running the Friday AM slot out of the Friday morning registration queue and “fast tracked” them through a separate line.

The way is well-lit and well-traveled. I’ve made the walk at a very late hour once, but I wasn’t alone. Not being a local, I don’t know if the area is considered a high crime risk. One side of the street is the airport, the other side are the hotels. As you get closer to the convention site, the airport side gives way to shops and restaurants. If you’re not walking alone, I’d make the walk; if you are alone, maybe a local can step in and advise?

If the weather at the time is pleasant enough and the load you’re carrying isn’t too cumbersome, the walk from the airport to the hotel is rather short and easy. In most cases, I believe walking will actually get you there quicker than the shuttle (when waiting for the shuttle is factored in, of course). I’ve made the walk several times and have enjoyed it, even while managing a shoulder bag and roller case. But the again, I like to walk.

Of the SFS scenarios not being offered at this year's con, I have yet to play:
1-19: To Conquer the Dragon
1-23: Return to Sender
1-27: King Xeros of Star Azlant

Of course, if you offered to run any of the con's offerings, I'd swap things around in my schedule to free myself up for your offering.

Also, I'm running 1-36: Enter the Ashen Asteroid in the overnight slots, but haven't signed up to play it. If you ran that on Monday night, you could use my maps, handouts, and pawns.

Have your friend pick a game in the slot of the event you want to give him... an event with a lot of available seats. Then, have him propose a trade of that event for the event you want to give him. Most likely, no one else is going to accept that trade because there are still many open seats. Then, you just accept that trade and drop the event he traded you.

I feel this is a rather foolish question to ask this far after the release of the game, but are natural 1s and natural 20s on the die roll automatic misses and hits when making gunnery checks during starship combat?

I had assumed "Yes," but whenever I prep a game session, I go back over the rules I expect to be using in that session and I sometimes come across something I may have misread, misinterpreted, or simply assumed worked the same way as it does in another game system.

Looking back over the rules for starship combat, I didn't see automatic misses and hits called out for gunnery checks the same way they're called out for attack rolls under combat basics in the tactical rules (and a cursory check of the rules forum and FAQ failed to find clarification).

So now I'm second-guessing myself and wondering if a gunnery check is more like a skill check than an attack roll when determining the success or failure of the die roll and I've been ruling these rolls wrong.

Here's a thread from the summer of 2016.

Consensus seems to be that there's no minimum or maximum number of players when running sanctioned APs in campaign mode.

In the Iron Gods game I mentioned above, not all of the players want Chronicles; I believe I reported one book with just two players.

I know this is venturing way off-topic, but I’ll echo DJEternalDarkness and strongly encourage you to give Starfinder a shot; I’ll be at PaizoCon myself this year, playing Starfinder almost exclusively.

I have minis for all of my Starfinder characters that are either repurposed minis from other games or are custom kit-bashed minis made from minis and toys I had lying around the house. I even have some inexpensive starship minis I was able to make for less than $1 each.

The situation with Ninja Division is unfortunate and I empathize with the rage and frustration of disappointed backers, but, IMHO, the lack of an official Starfinder miniatures line shouldn’t keep anyone from trying the game at least once.

I could be mistaken, but (like Ferious Thune above) I read this as not dropping the numeric designation but rather replacing "season" with "year" so that we'd have, for example: "Year 1: The Year of New Beginnings".

Or possibly "Year 4719: The Year of New Beginnings"?

Our home group has been unable to run the AP books in less than 18 hours. We’re playing in a private home, optimized for gaming (quiet, with a huge magnetic dry-erase board for tracking initiative and tacking up pictures) with the same group (who I’d like to think know the rules as well as could be expected and know each other’s characters well enough to coordinate roles). Having said that, however, I was able to play in and complete Incident at Absalom Station during the banquet at PaizoCon. The GM had to keep us on task and some parts had to be rushed, but we got it all in and I didn’t feel we skimped on the role play.

So further clarifying what I wrote above...

The player states how far the character is attempting to jump and makes an Athletics check. The Athletics check determines the maximum jump distance and Jet Dash allows one to double that distance, but it can never exceed any remaining movement. Meeting or exceeding the DC of the attempted jump results in successfully landing in the intended space. Failing to meet the DC results in a fall at the distance indicated by the result of the failed Athletics check.

Does that sound correct and close any exploitable loopholes?


Two more quick questions, relating to the “double move” debate...

The Jet Dash character with a base move of 30 feet takes a 10 foot running start and jumps. The result of its Athletics check, after doubling for the feat, is 50. Can the character jump the full 50 feet and end its turn, having used all its movement (in effect, a double move)? Can the character choose to use the result to jump just 20 foot, enabling it to take a standard action (or another move action)?

So let me ask you this...

There are two characters. They both have a base move of 30 feet. Their Athletics modifiers are the same. They’re basically identical except one has the Jet Dash feat and the other doesn’t. They both move 30 feet with a single move action. Then they both take a running start of 10 feet. How far can each one then jump?


It's not clear to me if a consensus on how Jet Dash works was ever reached and it doesn't appear any official clarification was ever made. I found one other thread on this matter, but it's older and rather than start a new thread, I'm bringing my thoughts here to the more current thread.

To me, there seems to be a misconception on how Athletics works in regards to jumping. One doesn't make the Athletics check to determine how far one jumps; one determines how far one wants to jump and the Athletics check determines success or failure.

On pages 136-137 of the CRB, the authors wrote:

As part of a move action, you can use Athletics to horizontally or vertically jump a distance no greater than your remaining amount of movement. If you take a 10-foot running start just prior to the jump attempt, the DC is equal to the number of feet you are attempting to jump horizontally, or four times the number of feet you are attempting to jump vertically.

If you do not take a running start, the DC of the check doubles. The DC is modified by the same environmental circumstances that apply to Acrobatics checks to balance (see page 135). If you fail the check, you fall. If you fail by 5 or more, you fall prone even if you don’t take any damage from the fall. Creatures with a land speed of 35 feet or more gain a +4 bonus to Athletics checks to jump. This bonus increases by 4 for every 10 by which a creature's land speed exceeds 40 feet. You can’t take 20 on Athletics checks to jump.

If a character with a base move of 30 feet takes a 10 foot running start and then wants to jump 20 feet, the DC for the Athletics check is 20. If that same character wanted to jump 30 feet with no running start instead, the DC would be 60. I don't believe any of us would argue that. And failing to hit either of those numbers with the check doesn't result in a shorter jump; it's a failure and the character falls. Nowhere in the rules for using Athletics to jump does it state or imply that the die roll of the check indicates how many feet are jumped. And maybe that distinction is debatable?

On page 158 of the CRB, the authors wrote:

Jet Dash

You are swift of foot and can make enormous leaps.
Benefit: When running, you move six times your land speed. Whenever you jump, double the height and distance you can jump. While running, you don’t gain the flat-footed condition.

Nowhere in the rules for the Jet Dash feat does it state or imply that the DC for Athletics checks to jump is halved or changed in any way. The feat does not make it easier to jump; the feat enables one to "make enormous leaps" by doubling the distance one can jump.

Let's go back to my previous example of the character with a base move of 30 feet. They take a 10 foot running start and can then jump 20 feet. Jet Dash doubles the distance they can jump to 40 feet, but doesn't change any of the DCs in any way. If the character wants to jump 20 feet, the DC is 20; if the character wants to jump the full 40 feet allowed by the feat, the DC is 40. But the character must decide how far they intend to jump before making the check, the distance determines the DC, and the roll determines success or failure (with a failure resulting in a fall, not a shorter jump).

That's my interpretation of the Jet Dash feat. In my home games, that's how I'd run it. In organized play, I'd expect table variation until there is an official clarification. But until then, I'd make a case for my interpretation with the GM before any SFS scenario I was playing to find out how the GM wants to run it before I use it.

I have games I both GMed and played at PaizoCon two years ago that are still unreported. I have Chronicles for all of them, though, so I just don’t sweat it. Given all the threads about unreported convention games I’ve see here over the years, I just don’t think reporting 100% of games is an obtainable goal. Something to strive for? Certainly. Something we should expect? Of course. In reality, though? I’m just not going to worry about it anymore.

Doing some searching of the forums, I couldn’t find a clear answer to this and I’m looking for some clarification.

Most of the racial Heritage and Admittance personal boons have wording which reads, “You can play a [race] character, beginning at 1st level as normal.”

There is a slotless boon which reads:
”You can start a new character who begins at 2nd level.”
Source: 1-99: The Scoured Stars Invasion; Scoured Stars Veteran boon

Can these two boons be used together to begin play with a non-core race higher than 1st level? I believe I’ve seen others do this, but I want to double-check the legality before I do it myself.

While I'm all for faster updates, I don't care for the idea of a "living document." The less I have to check online for updates, errata, FAQ additions, and other clarifications, the better. I hate those "gotcha" moments at the table when you're made aware (whether as a player or as the GM) that something you thought worked one way now works another per a recent post that someone became aware of before you. I'd be more willing to accept a living document if it were only updated at regular intervals so it didn't need to be checked constantly. And I'd also be very happy with the guide, AR, campaign clarifications, etc. being a smart phone app that updated itself automatically. But that's probably even more work than what's currently in place.

I’ve just gone back and unchecked all the PFS scenarios. While this still isn’t an accurate reporting, it should “hide” me in the data and it won’t look like I’ve “won” anymore. Sorry for mucking up that data; I simply wasn’t aware it was being compiled and tracked.

While I have played quite a bit in Core and I have played a few of the retired scenarios, I have not played and GMed everything. However, I did mark all of the PFS scenarios as played and GMed. I no longer play PFS scenarios and some of the venues use the tracker to choose scenarios and assign tables. To insure I’m not going to be assigned to a PFS scenario, I used the tracker to reflect my preferences rather than my actual play history. If doing so has thrown off the accuracy of any statistics being tracked , I’d be more than happy to go back and edit my data to be a correct recounting of what I’ve played and GMed.

Usually, when I order something directly from Amazon, it not arriving on time is a valid reason for a full refund.

If my order from Paizo is, in fact, going to be significantly delayed, I’d appreciate the option of cancelling my order for a full refund and trying to acquire the materials sooner elsewhere.

If I'm not mistaken, all of the newer 64 page modules (those released post-Dragon's Demand, I believe) allow you to:

Exactly. While there may be a few PFS scenarios where roleplaying Profession (Slaver) might be useful, such scenarios are few and far between. And if you have taken ranks in such a profession, at the end of the scenario when the GM asks if you have a day job, just say "Yes" and tell her what you rolled. I see no reason why a player couldn't take Profession (Slaver), but I also see no reason why a player has to broadcast it to the rest of the table.


Looking through the posts and recaps of PaizoCon 2016, I did not see mention of the location and dates for PaizoCon 2017. Will it again be Memorial Day weekend at the same DoubleTree?


If you need to think in three dimensions, just imagine a creature's space as a cube. And a creature's reach extends out in all directions from the surface of that cube.

Why are there no bard-like archetypes for the vigilante so I can play the composed Sullivan by day and the liberating Gilbert by night?


I would like to etch some glassware (beer mugs, shot glasses, etc.) with the Pathfinder Society's "Sign of the Open Road" (and possibly some other Golarion-related symbols) and donate them to a local convention (SkålCon 2016) that would then auction or raffle them off for a local charity (Tubman).

There's no commercial intent in this, but money would be changing hands (the selling of raffle tickets or the winning bid in an auction). And the nature of glass etching would necessitate the alteration of the referenced artwork.

Would this be something I could or could not do?
