Oh man, this monster. Keeping my player knowledge separated from my character's knowledge has been a treat. There are a couple of spells I'd kill for right now.

Can someone Point Out its location? I'll try to Grapple it so it stops running away. Its Fort Save is the weakest.

The woman clutches her leg. "Ahh! Thought I stretched this mornin'-" under the Professor's magic, the woman falls over and starts bleeding out from her injuries.

"I WISH this was from Osirion! Ma said she got it from a friend and I was like this is a cheap copy." The woman in Blue starts chatting with the Professor as he weaves his magic into the team.

"Who cares about your scarf? Hey the goblin's jumping into his hog, don't let 'im get away!" The woman with Green greaves thinks Stitch is driving away, only for Meat Wagon to spin around and ram her with critical force. She steps back from the blades as Bun Helsing emerges.

"Hey, there's another stupid bunny in the back... wait, he's GOT A GUN!" She isn't ready for Bun Helsing's opening strike, but she avoids the follow up entirely.

The Red Hooded leader snarls. "Idiots! Just... surround one of them. Start with the goblin before he escapes!" She runs over to flank Stitch.

Gauntlet: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Gauntlet: 1d20 + 14 - 5 ⇒ (11) + 14 - 5 = 20

Surrounded, Stitch isn't able to keep his guard up as easily, and she finds a few vulnerable spots in his armor to pierce.

"Blue, hurry up and get over here!" She shouts.

Nicole sees an opportunity to act before the woman with Green greaves finally puts up her guard.

The bartender peers closely at Professor Bun Bun, raising a hairy fist... before laughing. "Let me see if I can make something for ya. A little light for a light bunny."

He starts mixing some of the lighter liquids. "Watch yourself, there's a lot of gangs who would pay big money for someone as fluffy as you. Take the Daughters of Cocytus. Their leader, Mother Forsythe, is offering money for unusual newcomers. They say she is an unnerving woman who’s accompanied by some sort of weird light that’s apparently alive. I heard they both thrive on causing terror in others, from their victims to their underlings." He shudders and drops a drink on the counter.

"Keep your ears open, alright? And don't drink too much."

Professor Bun Bun rambles on about Hinji and its criminal organization, threading together tales he's heard alongside theories and random trivia. If you can understand his words, it makes an entertaning lecture. Bun Helsing hangs onto every word. Eventually Nicole gets a summary from Vardarel.

Professor's Notes on Hinji wrote:

In addition to notorious gangs like the Sons of the Tear, a smaller gang is coming onto the scene of Hinji’s ice tears trade: the Daughters of Cocytus. Led by the enigmatic Mother Forsythe, this all-female group has a reputation for spreading fear, as well as being accompanied by a mysterious light that their victims half-remember.

The criminal underworld of Hinji almost entirely revolves around the production and illicit trade of a singular narcotic: ice tears. This ingested drug bestows visions of the past and “possible futures” to those under its effects, and its trade is largely controlled by criminal gangs that abuse those who become addicted.

The Sixwing Drake reaches the docks just after runrise. A pleasantly quiet trip is now filled with the hustle and bustle of crew and dockworkers loading supplies, taking inventory, and getting you out of the way. The Wayport Inn isn't too far off.

One Rose Witch is within sight, and Bella's cold iron dagger finds purchase. It doesn't bleed as much as she thought it would. Maybe she protected herself against cold iron weapons.

Will Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
A hand appears on her shoulder. She whirls around only to feel relief. "Father! Perfect! The Rose Witch, she is everywhere!"

He smiles. "No. Your enemy is over there. These are your allies. See? Your sister is over there." Bella sees the roses and leaves shake off of one of the fey, revealing animal fur and a familiar rose tattoo. "Sister?"

Bella checks her eyesight again as the garden walls fade and the witches wither back into her teammates.

"As for you..." Her fatherly apparition turns in the direction of the Yellow creature. ">GET OUT!<"

Bella blanches with embarrassment. "My apologies, Madam Greenscale! I was... assaulted with visions!" She frowns as she sees the blood on the dagger.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
And is not remotely paying attention and inhales a virulent puff of poison.

Bella sees the trees grow, the shrubs surround her. The leshy takes on a much more recognizable appearance and Bella hisses.

"I knew it! The Rose Witch! You deceived my mother and my sister, but not I! If they will not punish you, I WILL!"

The Rose Witch seemingly duplicates and tries to surround her. She prepares for the assault!

Meanwhile, Khiari keeps yelling. "Watch out! She's not in control anymore!"

Sickened doesn't stack - you just take the greatest effect. So Kazuki should be Sickened 2 since that's what Failing the Will Save does.

Quote:

The Blue biloko is flanked, and Basag takes advantage to hit twice!

The biloko counters with two bites!
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Piercing: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 3) + 4 = 14 Doubled, Shield Block applies Hardness 5, deals 23 damage to Basag and Shield, Steel Shield has 20 HP so it is destroyed
With his first bite he tears through the shield and then applies a follow up.

1d20 + 12 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 12 - 5 = 25
Piercing: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
With a second bite, Basag loses consciousness and flops into the pond. "Ha! A good hunt!" He then backs up.

The biloko with Green warpaint tries to cough up the bile.

"Finally, the fat man's acid is out of my system..." He goes for a bite before backing up.

Basag lets the bilokos laugh. They thought this would be an easy meal.

Maneki opens first, shooting the Yellow skirted Biloko once despite her cover in the middle of the pack.

They are startled when Fjorn seems to emerge from a rock. "Look at the belly on that one! Lots of fat- WHOA!"
Reflex Green: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
"Ugh. I have to wash that out..." He gags as he evades some of the bile.

"Look! It's a bird! Never seen that one before..." The biloko with Red paint is distracted long enough for Meadow to emerge and almost kill her with a single shot. "Ah! Another one! An elf this time!"

It's this moment the bilokos realize they are surrounded.

"Oh, it's a leshy. Hi Eddie!" A female satyr approaches Eddie and leans down to accept the handshake. "I don't get to see a lot of you around unless I'm on a mission with my sis." She adjusts her yellow scarf. "Oh! Sorry. I'm Khiari Sidare, and this is my twin sister, Bella."

"Older by seven seconds." The red-headed human corrects her. She takes a curtsy and then follows through to shake Eddie's hand. "Bella Sidare. It's a pleasure to meet you, Eddie." Underneath her purple leather armor you see the pulsing outline of a green rose on her abdomen- Khiari has the same glowing outline.

"Hi Vardarel! OH! Quick! Show them the painting!" Khiari interrupts Bella's polite introduction. Bella huffs, but she is also eager to draw a scroll and present a >Painting of Bella and Khiari< posing in front of a stone wall.

"Holding the pose for a few hours was good endurance training. The painter had to improvise a bit for sister Khiari, as she has trouble standing still for so long." Bella holds the painting out for everyone to observe, and to hide her smirk.

"That's what magic is for." Khiari sighs. "How am I supposed to sit still for that long?"

Joli stands firm. His first bite misses but the follow up finds demon flesh. The blood is surprisingly sweet.

Kernal Klank takes a more defensive approach, raising his shield before swiping at the two demons in front of him with critical force. He kills the Yellow demon immediately and weakens the Black demon, the creature roaring from his cold iron weaponry.

Swipe must be used on enemies within your melee reach and adjacent to each other, so you can only swipe Black and Yellow. Blue is not adjacent.

Black Fort Save: 1d20 + 17 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 1 = 32

Success by both Basag and Meadow

"Irena is correct. We cannot leave this area." Mr. Riverside takes a deep swig of his drink. "Otherwise the bilokos can hunt us down with impunity. So these tents are more like our coffins." He frowns.

"But Basag has an idea!" Irena pipes up. "We cannot fight the biloko, but they can! They are not bound by the pact." Efala stands up straight like a fire has been lit up from underneath, but Mr. Riverside claps his hands to silence her. "We must not speak of such matters during dinner. These Pathfinders are our guests. And I need time to think..."

Efala gives a nod and sits back down before you finish your meal.

As the others are cleaning up, Mr. Riverside looks to you.

“This bell... you have brought it back to help us, assuming we need it for protection. That is true, but it also ensnares us. In the name of protecting ourselves, I believe we have committed great evil—and for that, we... no, I... cannot be forgiven. When we were rid of the bell, I believed that we could move past the horrible things that happened, the sadistic rituals those bilokos forced us to take part in. I believe that we deserved the punishment that followed... punishment that continues to this day.

“But, like a cruel echo, the bell has come back to us. I thought we could move forward, like a river. But we are stuck, our sins... my sins... returning like ripples in a still pond. I see now that we must act. Before, the risk was too great, as our bargain with the bilokos spells out our doom should we take direct physical action against them. Perhaps, with you here, and with the bell... perhaps we can draw them out, and fight back. Only we River Sentinels can perform the song that lures the bilokos to the ringing grounds. But you must stand against them. If you have truly come to help us, you will fight them when they come to feast. Perhaps then, their leader, Wrigglemaw, will know the River Sentinels are not to be trifled with. Will you do this with us?”

Another roar comes from behind. Henri and Shayla turn around just in time to see a school of Merfolk and Undines swim past them.

One of them, an Undine with Strix wings and talons, manages to pry one of the eel's mouths open. "Oh! We got this. You head back to base and recharge, okay?" She bops the eel on its snout. "Bad eel! We're not food!" She kicks it for good measure.

With the reinforcements arriving you decide it's time to make your exit and return back to base.

Venture-Captain Aldred bids you all a good night.

Please recharge your daily preparations.

You see teams splitting between the Temple Route and the Caravan Route. Which will you take first?

>Hunted Shot< says "Make two Strikes against your prey with the required weapon."

>Hunter's Aim< says "Make a ranged weapon Strike against your hunted prey."

Capital S Strike means you must make the regular Strike action. Hunter's Aim is not a Strike, it's an ability that includes a Strike. So you can't combine them.

Compare to the wording of >Inner Upheaval< (formerly Ki Strike). It specifically says you can make a normal Strike or Flurry of Blows and apply the bonus in both circumstances.

I think your initial assessment was right - you have to choose either Hunter's Aim or Hunted Shot.

Vitality Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7 +1 Vitality Splash damage and Enfeebled 1 until the start of Soddy's next turn.

Then Soddy Strides back.

Deception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Evindal: Sorry about the bomb confusion, I forgot about the Remaster changes.

"My name?" The woman seems to pause in a moment of clarity. "I... name... I don't remember-" before she seems to seize back in pain from unknown forces and screeches. "Torag must have stolen my name!"

Seeing her confusion and her pain, Klank presses on with a critical strike while her guard is down.

He knocks her over as her body jerks unnaturally, pulled like puppet strings from unknown sources.

Is Kazuki able to use wands at all?

Ranger Wardens get access to Focus Spells, but it doesn't look like they get access to Primal spellcasting. So you'd be able to use scrolls or wands with those specific spells (like a scroll of Gravity Weapon) but not Primal spells in general.

For example, the >Druid Archetype< specifically gives you the Cast a Spell activity and access to the Primal spell list. That would be all you need to use Primal scrolls regardless of rank.

btw GM, I am totally copying homaging this type of discovery skill check in my home game when I get the chance. Different categories of successes that generate different benefits is too cool.

Thanks, I think I confused Athletics with the Reflex save. In that case the dragonfly would have to fly down to reach you and waste its turn. Also, you wouldn't take 19 damage.

So, after double triple checking, it turns out I had the Tier 1-4 book instead of the Tier 3-6 book, which explains a lot.

The later encounters will be a tad more difficult from here on out.

I believe we're going to the Labyrinth next. You have the opportunity to leave Pallid Peak, return to base camp, rest for 8 hours and reenter.

Jiggo raises a magical >Shield< to protect himself. But really he's proud Sal'era's taking the initiative to do something to help others.

She frowns briefly before realizing he's proud, and then she can't help but smile. "They're a really helpful... fungi. Can't let that go to waste."

She carefully lowers Eddie on the ground.

She drops it at his feet and rubs his leg.

"Is this a gift? Thank you..." he picks it up. The bite marks are clear. Still, it could be salvaged, and he is not one to turn down a genuine gift. "I will cook this during the week. You are of course welcome to try the results. Darius and I can put something together. And Sheela will find a wine pairing."

He can sense the stress of his teammates. "Vekka, I can focus entirely on taking care of Yami this week. Despite the... ritual grounds, it's clear Yami possesses great wisdom and can seek secrets we don't know of."

Sigurd is willing to forgo this week to give the 4 Care Points and give the team skill checks to gather food.

At any rate, you return back to the lodge, where local construction workers are busy on their scaffolds, layering more bricks and paint.

Sebnet is fanning herself as you arrive. "The masons said the damage was superficial and they should be done within the week. Good, this heatwave is... ugh."

Her mood picks up considerably once you deliver your report. "Excellent! Thank you for your hard work. Preventing Aslynn from getting her dirty cheating claws on Alyreha's work. Helping Alyreha restore her memory and securing her home. I'll work with her to restore any work that was destroyed or left behind."

"And she's back to her full self?" Sebnet is impressed. "Well, that calls for a bonus." She grants you a >Ganjay book<.

"Well, that's all for now. Thank you for all of your assistance, Pathfinders. You're welcome to stay until your next mission. May as well rest your bones here..." Sebnet catches herself making another skeleton joke and groans.

Hero Points have 2 uses:
- Either you spend all of them to avoid Dying (I don't think this is useful anymore)
- Or you spend 1 Hero Point to reroll a 1d20. You have to accept the new result, and it must be done before I tell you the result of the first roll.

So if you roll something really good for your first attempt, don't bother rerolling. If you roll terribly on your first attempt, definitely spend it. If you roll in the middle it's your call.

Downstairs, you return to find Takumi and Shinju taking a tea break. The eidolon has a much larger teacup than Takumi, and the kitsune sighs before refilling it. Kosh takes his time healing long term wounds while the rest enjoy some jasmine tea.

"Man, I'm tired." Alyreha pants. "I'd wipe the sweat off my brow if I could. Or if I had one. But the defenses have gotten a lot more stable recently. I'm guessing you've taken care of that?"

"Oh hey! That's my research. Most of it, anyway... where's page 8? Oh, I bet that thief has it. She must be on the top floor in the observatory. Let me see what I can do with this..."

"YES! This is getting easy." Alyreha mumbles. "Okay, I think I unlocked it. You can ask the wards to give you a healing word- uh I shouldn't say it like that. Those wizards on the coast get mad when I use that phrase. Listen, just say the word and it will heal some of your wounds."

As a 1 action activity, you can use the command phrase "Alyreha is awesome" and you will heal 1d8 damage. Each PC can only do this once.

"ULIMITED POWAAAH!" Alyreha screams as a lightning surges from her mouth. "Oh man, I knew this one guy, he'd do it all the time. I bet he'd be surprised that somehow, I returned!"

"Sorry, where was I? Oh yeah. Speak the phrase and you'll be hasted for a minute. You can move faster or attack an extra time."

As a 2 action activity, you can use the command phrase "You're so cool, Alyreha!" and you will be quickened for 1 minute, gaining a bonus action you can use to Stride or Strike. Each PC can only do this once.

"Okay, I think that should be enough. Anymore and I risk destabilizing the magical wards here. Think you'll be able to handle the thief now?"
