I like it, YoLlama, and I like the idea of the transformation taking place at the start of the game.
Also, I can't believe I only now saw the Kubo connection. :P
I'm glad you approve! I think the general concept has legs. Basically I want to make a naturalist ala Stephen Maturin or Newt Scamander who makes paper versions of all the creatures she seen and studied. Would also give her a reason to explore in addition to her personal goal, a more lighthearted one would be to collect more creatures. I'm working on the build now as well as personality and background information but I wanted to run this summoner archetype by you and see what you thought of it.

Painterlilies are fine. That's a neat archetype, and I'd allow it, though Irresistible Storytelling seems slightly mediocre.
Its supposed to reflect the powers from the movie, kubo and the two strings. But yeah that particular ability is pretty underpowered. I would love combine this in the archive for my concept but alas, the two are incompatible. I might just flavor her abilities related to ink/paint/paper and take archivist.
Submission Backstory concept:
Part 1
My character is the third adult daughter of the BanCroft noble house whose father's reign was violently overthrown many years ago in a riotius coup. During the riots , the quick thinking daughter To smuggle the noble family out of the city, the desperate daughter instructed/pleaded with the court wizard(whom she was apprenuced to as all third children are)to bind them to their family portraits through powerful dangerous magics, as no one would suspect anyone stealing simple contraband from a fallen regime. It was a last ditch effort by the noblewoman to protect her family from the enemies at the gate, as they had little other options. As such, the ritual was performed without the families consent, trapping them within the canvas, their forms twisted into acrylic. The plan was to have the manservants carry them to safety, metting wizard of in the country were they could be restored to make new plans. However, the valiant efforts of the wizard and the manservants who rolled them into document cases for safe keeping, were all for naught as a happenstance with bandits saw the manservants slain and the wizard emprisoned by the government. The bandits, not realizing at all the magnitude of their latest spoils, scattered the paintings to the four winds, selling to anyone with coin or a taste for refined art.
The bandit leader supposedly kept the printing of the father for himself, believing it a affording him some regal stature amoungst his men. The mother is stuffed away in a storage room of a boredello out east, having never been removed from it's casing. The eldest sister was procured by the new government and preserved in the halls of museum for disgraced nobility, mocked daily for the failings of her father. As rumor goes, the second sister's painting fell off of the back of a traders wagon, weathered the harshness of nature and a well traveled road, before being utilized by a peasant to keep his fire going for just a few more hours, one brisk winter's night. This story is told as a fable to keep children obedient and teach them the folly of escaping justice.
The final daughter, Agostina BanCroft hangs over the fireplace of a pub in a little fishing village named Barlilly, and in fact gave the establishment it's name, "The Mourning Monarch". Her painting was "donated" by a hunting house by one of it's key members, eho just so happens to own pub as well. The painting depicts a young brunette in her 20s, with wide brown eyes, angular thick brow and a pert pouty mouth. Her pale contrasts with her long floral blue dress featuring patterns of lillys and dark brown shoulder length trestles. Her face is rounded with a soft chin and high cheek bones. Her expression is one of curious secrecy but many who examine the painting for any amount of time, recognize a bit of fear tinged in sadness, just behind the eyes.
( I thought it might be fun for something to trigger her release from the painting as the adventure starts. Hopefully that's not hogging to much of the stage, but if that is the case, it can be changed. Her goal will be to find her family members for more than the obvious, but its required to locate them to fully undue her circumstances. I was considering on having a twist that it's been a over two hundred years since she and her family was transformed.
Let me know what you think so far. Should i keep going with this?
Would you be opposed to a Painterlilly? I love the idea of a living painting or someone who has suffered a magical or cursed, leaving them 2dimensional. It's a unique concept, I've yet seen payed. I know it's odd, but I'm aware of very few games besides this one where it could work. 11RP
I was considering a papercraftjng themed caster who used paper related spells. Maybe a summoner with origami summons? Here is an bard archetype with a relative template
Im not against your idea at all! Its kind of intriguing and deals with an area rarely covered in media of any kind.
And this is just the eventual build off the top of my head.
Twin guantlet build:
]Human Dervish Defender Warder 4/Aegis 2 if you want to use tower shields/Dragon Fury X
Traits: Practiced Initiator Unorthodox Method(Swap Golden Lion with Iron Tortoise again).
Human Bonus Feat:Prodigious Two Weapon Fighting(Allows you to use Strength for Dex prerequisites in TWF)
Stupendous Strength(Treat 1 handed Weapons as light weapons, 2 handed as one handed. If you have prodigious TWF you can now treat 2 handed weapons as light weapons for the purpose of TWF) You can also treat tower shields as heavy shields for shield bashing and not take the -2 penalty to attack for holding one)
Bonus Feat from Warder(Dervish Defender) is Two Weapon Fighting.
At level 1 you can dual wield earth breakers as light weapons, fluff them as battle gauntlets(both deal bludgeoning, not a big deal). You lose proficiency with shields, but you lose access to Dervish Defense(Int to AC when in Light Armor and TWFing).
A very good point and arguably more accurate to the concept in my head. I am not at all opposed to utilizing the Fiendish Maurader , especially if the DM doesnt care for refluffing.
Dotting. I love this concept. The idea to focus on a trio of individuals as a core concept is kind of fascinating. Whether it be siblings, romantic partners, Same tribe, colleagues from an academy, or chain gang.
I have a Warder concept that I'd love to play a Dervish utilizing two Earth Breakers but flavoring them as massive gauntlets, ie Hellboy or VI from LOL.
Im very open to any ideas and joininng up with anyone willing.
What are your thoughts on, a Grig, Leprechaun, Sprite or a tooth fairy? Though one or two of these might be a little more human-like than others, their inhuman size provides a pretty steep barrier of potential bigotry and ridicule. You mentioned flying is broken at level one but does that change if the creature is tiny sized?
I am SO excited for this. I would love the opportunity to play in an Eberron game. Are you oppossed to using Skinwalkers from Blood of the Moon: Pathfinder Companion book? They are basically updated Shifters. I have a character that I'll post for this game.
Sorry! I have been swamped at work and to be honest I've been trying to wrap my head around the plot. I love me some gonzo stories but tbh I was expecting it to be more what was written on the tin. I didn't know we would be in an Exiles/Xtreme Xmen story. I don't mind it! A fm should run what they are passionate about. It'll just take a little adjusting. I'll post soon today. And setting the pace with the fastest poster is sound advice.
Hopefully that's a good thing. I've found "crazy" can be played for laughs, but if we go that route and want her to be any measure of threatening she needs a whole lot of teeth to her. Terrible pun But I feel no shame.
As per our Dm's notes I've updated the character to have rank ten super speed. I limited matter eater to organize and added a drawback that she gets hungry when she runs. Hopefully this fits better.
Point of order, After speaking with our illustrious DM, I've just finished the reworking of her powers and will be throwing up a new backstory as well. I feel this version of piper is not only much more capable in assisting the group but also fits the campaign in mind .
Changed some stuff around. Changed the array and added nauseating linked to the penetrating strike. Tweaked skills, adds a drawback, Changed the goggles into a suit and added equipment. . Removed grapple feats. She is definitely not a great toe to toe combatant. Primary function is scout and infiltrator. In a fight she's more support. Her fears are about not getting hit and assisting/setting up teammates to hit harder. Let me know what you think. I have a few strategies for weaving through combat.
I also considered changing the suit to a prototype healing suit that she tried to steal to save her ailing mother but since she's an art thief it was a whole different ballgame and she got caught. It would add a second role for Piper to fill.
Spoiler:
Piper Doyle O' Brian "The Edge"
PL 10 (167pp)
ST 10 (+0) DEX 16 (+3) CON 10 (+0) INT 12(+1) WIS 10 (+0) CHA 12
So I have several concepts I'm interested in making but I'm not sure which to focus so I thought I'd throw them out to you guys.
-Perm-Madonna: One of the stars of a Ex-Reality television show featuring irresponsible young adults with powers. She possesses nearly industructible prehensile hair.
-The Edge: 2dimensional cat burglar. Can sneak through tight spaces, mail herself to her target in an envelope, be practically invisible when turned sideways, elongation, horrible horrible paper cuts, gliding and immunity to falling damage.
I could have fun with either of these. I'm just worried that either idea is a little underpowered when compared to some of the other characters here.
And now that I consider it, a bruiser type character would be a blast. Going for Growth powered hero based off of the myth of Antaeus. Only powerful and larger in size while touching the earth.
GM, did you expect to get this much of a turnout for this recruitment drive?
Roycilo wrote:
I don't think ANY GM EVER realistically expected this kind of turnout.
I was hoping for a good turnout, but this is way better than I thought it would be. And a lot of people seem to like the idea of being necromancers... I guess if there's ever a game for it, this is it.
I think, more than anything, it's the combined concept of "What if the heroes lost?" and bringing the world back from darkness. I mean, most of the APs teeter on the edge of it, with the PCs being the only thing that barely keeps them from really going over the edge. In most of those scenarios, you would prefer a more noble minded or ethical champion to get behind.
But in this case, darkness has won. The bad guys succeeded and the world is doomed... so we think. The concept also opens up options most people would consider too "evil" for characters (I think most folk frown on raising the dead, even if it's saving lives). But the light of the world has gone, and darkness rules unchecked. Any character, no matter how dastardly, who can stand up and beat back the darkness would be a welcome sight. A glimmer of hope in a world gone awry.
That's why concepts like a winter witch, tiefling thief, a necromancer, a kobold paladin, etc. are welcome and reasonable in this setting. They are the true last chance the world has in clawing its way out of the void and returning to normal. The final belief that, no matter how hopeless things may seem, someone, somewhere, will stand their ground against the darkness and fight back, even when nobody else has the strength or power to do so. No, they aren't ideal, but they are champions nonetheless, and at this point, the last bastions of good and order need all the help they can get.
...so, yeah, it's a cool concept. Probably why everyone likes it.
@ DM IRONlord
I love all the options you threw down for familiars. Especially the robot spider. It's very tempting. I'm also considering going medium with either Geist Channeler or Fractured Mind and flavoring the Phantom as an A.I. instead. The Geist Channeler would be great for flavoring the
Emotionless knowledge aspect and the Fractured Mind removes the ghost/undead aspects. I'm considering coupling it with blood rager to benefit from the charisma focus and flavor the self buff spells as tech features of the A.I. or benefits from Brigh.
Since a lot of people in the running are going with a Tech savvy character, I'm going for a robot and technology worshipping barbarian who views them as gifts from the heavens. That doesn't mean that he won't fight robots , he just does so as an act of worship. If they kill him, then he's helped them take another step towards perfection, but if he says them, he's rid the world of an imperfect creation. He'll view any android in the party as saints or some equivalent.
How do you feel about kitsunes? I know, I know, very small mouth, big eyes overdone special snowflake anime wankery. I agree, But I'm considering it for a build and I think I have an ineresting backstory to go with it. They bring some heavy artillery to an enchantment build.
