Wayward Wanderer |

After a most enjoyable Carrion Crown game ended far too prematurely, I have decided to take up the GMing mantle and give this AP a spin. Having played a great deal of Ravenloft back in the 2nd and 3rd edition days, and having read more than a bit of Gothic literature, this game will not run strictly from the printed AP and will take influences from many sources. If you are interested in a darker and more puzzling take on Carrion Crown, I encourage you to apply.
CHARACTER CREATION
Ability Scores: 2d6+6
Race: Any of 14 or less RP.
Class: Any Core, Base, or Hybrid Pathfinder class. Summoners and rogues must be unchained; barbarian and monk are at your discretion.
Traits: 2, one of which should be a campaign trait and you can take a drawback for an additional trait.
Unchained Content: Background Skills, Fractional Base Bonuses
Wealth: max for 1st.
Favored Class Bonus: select from any for your chosen class, regardless of race.
Alignment: I approach alignment as a guide for character design, defined more deeply by the character's background, personality, motivations and actions. That said, not looking for evil characters.
Fluff: Obviously, tie your Campaign Trait and Professor Lorrimor into your background. Beyond that, Carrion Crown is an homage to many of the core concepts and stories of Gothic literature. As such, I encourage you all to submit characters that fit a dark fantasy / gothic setting - heroic, but flawed in some way. This does not mean I am looking for evil sociopaths, but rather that your character has a weakness, a secret, a problem of some kind.
I have two applicants already accepted, who were in the previous game with me (a magus and an oracle). I am looking for 4 more characters to round out the party.
Recruitment will end Sunday, November 13th, unless a suitable party has been assembled prior to that date.

A colleague of Professor Lorrimor at the Lepistadt university, Professor Coil was an underclassman during Lorrimor's school years. After many years spent writing a thesis for the university, he was finally ready to take on duties as an investigator when he received word of Lorrimor's passing. His new position is on hold for an indeterminate period of time while he attends the funeral and affairs on behalf of the university, surprisingly at Lorrimor's request.
A stark and severe elf, whip-thin and sharp-eyed, professor Coil is somber in the face of such an event, but it would be only a matter of time until his dry humor resurfaces. His hair is short cropped and slicked back, and he wears a pair of pince-nez spectacles on his hawkish nose. He has a long, thin vertical scar down the right side of his face, where he had long ago lost a personal duel.
He wears a black overcoat and studded leather armor, with a rapier buckled at his waist. The other item of interest on him is a black iron lantern, wrought in a classic Ustilavic style.

You didn't say if we were rolling in order or not; I'll assume we are until told otherwise.
Dexterity:2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
Stamina: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
Intelligence: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
Wisdom: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 6 = 15
Charisma: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3) + 6 = 13
Edit: Hmmm... My thinky-thinky gears need to be greased. Assuming roll-in-order, Geokineticist Gravedigger - taking inspiration from The Blackwater Gospel. If we're picking our order I might swap to a USummoner with a Psychopomp eidolon.

Nasrin Raissi |

Hi everyone, one of the pre-accepted characters characters here. You do not need to take the order you're rolling, and you can shift one point from one state to another.
Ask away for any information you may want.
@Whiskey and a Bonesaw: I'm afraid that Occult classes were not included among the possible choices, ask WW however.

Whiskey and a Bonesaw |

@Whiskey and a Bonesaw: I'm afraid that Occult classes were not included among the possible choices, ask WW however.
*Slaps forehead* Doi. Serves me right for trying to think at four in the morning. I'll leave it up, just to see if it is allowed - the idea of an itinerant gravedigger (in Ustalav, no less) is kind of growing on me.

rungok |

I updated my prior post with my character idea. Basically a Lepistadt University fellow professor who was colleagues with Lorrimor. Lamplighter Investigator, I can handle trap disarming and stuff.
Potential Flaw: Professor Coil is actually quite displeased at the death of what he viewed as his 'rival' in the academic community. He wished he could have had enough time to surpass Lorrimor's varied accomplishments while the man was still alive, and now his chances are very, very gone.
Also, I think of a dispassionate elven version of Alan Rickman as Snape when I envision Professor Coil for some reason. I actually kind of like that though.

Robert Henry |

dotting, hopefully the dice will be kind,
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
well those are manageable, I will think about class and race a little, I like melee and skill monkeys, let me see what I can come up with.
What kind of posting rate are you looking for Wayward Wonderer, and if you are going to end recruitment early will you give us some kind of warning, like twenty four hours or something?

Nasrin Raissi |

@NotEspi: Personally, I think that creating a character you like and setting-appropriate is more important that party balance. That said, I'm your run-of-the-mill Kensai Magus, building for becoming an evasion tank and getting the Bodyguard feat. Our oracle is entertaining thoughts of going melee, but you'd have to ask her.
@rungok: Nice to see you here. I love the idea of Elf Snape.
Also, necromancer-like concepts, paired with a moral neutral alignment, might be interesting. Not too easy to roleplay, but possibly very nice.

Barek Noson |

Here's a character from another Carrion Crown game that ended prematurely. Longshot considering he's a bladebound magus, but still interested in applying.
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6) + 6 = 16
These should fit well enough with the character, I'll update just a tad.

Wayward Wanderer |

@Whiskey Though I own Occult Adventures, I have spent rather little time delving into the classes within. That said, from my previous perusal I would say that they would likely be appropriate for a gothic horror game. Go ahead with the submission, and I will spend some time reviewing the class. *EDIT* Though given that you can arrange your stats to your liking, I am very curious to see your proposed summoner, and how you would work your psychopomp eidolon and connection to Pharasma into your story.
@Rungok like the concept and could easily see it playing in well to the campaign. I would recommend fleshing out the backstory a bit more, with the twist that Rungok viewed himself as the Professor colleague, though you were more the graduate student lackey to his tenured professor status (during his time there). This could be based on your innate Intelligence and perhaps an air of elven superiority for the wealth of knowledge known by your people. Just an idea.
@MattZ why would you ever play an undead slaying paladin in Carrion Crown... there are no undead here... the sounds of the walking dead echo throughout the cold, dark chamber...
@Storyteller Shadow My one concern would be, with your campaign starting before this one, you would be consistently ahead of the general story arc and privy to clues and solutions to the mysteries of the core storyline. This could either lead to metagaming and easily reaching solutions, or boredom on your part as you hold back from such actions and instead are rarely surprised by the reveals within the story. I am not saying no, but would want to discuss this further with you via PM for consideration.
@YoLlama Wow, those are rough for 2d6+6. Go ahead and reroll.
@RobertHenry Once a day for posting. And if I am to end recruitment early, I will toss up a 24 hour notice.
@NotEspi Build what you would like, I am more concerned with a good concept then the squared off "4 major roles" party.
@Barek Noson I really like the content you have developed for Barek. That said, the pre-existing Magus is a Bladebound Kensai, and though I am not a big "4 major roles" GM, I would be hard pressed to have two matching class characters. Any thoughts on respinning the concept into a different class?
@MadCaster Inquisitor could definitely fit well, any ideas on faith or philosophy behind the character?

Fabian Benavente |

Hey GM,
I'm thinking of a troubled young man with a bleak outlook of the world who does the job of Pharasma.
One one hand, he is midwife and loves babies and children but, on the other hand, he's a ruthless killer that knows that some people just deserve to meet Pharasma sooner than later. He, of course, abhors undead.
His class would be either an inquisitor or a warpriest.
Full disclaimer: I GMed the first two books of this AP. I'll of course keep player and character knowledge separately but let me know if previous knowledge of part of the AP is problem.
Thanks for hosting!

Wayward Wanderer |

@Fabian I bring up the same concern to you that I proposed to Storyteller Shadow, only even moreso given that you have actually run 1/3 of the written content. I will send you a PM to discuss.
To All Applicants I have placed the 'typical' applications submitted list in the Campaign Info page and will update it regularly.

Daughter of a miner and a teacher, Sini Kela was not of blue blood. Neither was she male, nor very strong. These were probably the reasons she was ridiculed when she submitted her application to join the ranks of the Pitaxian naval officers. She attempted to break the mold either way, with various levels of success.
After a swaying lecture on strategy delivered by Prof. Lorrimor, she applied to University of Lepidstadt, where she decided to further expand her knowledge on History, Tactics, and Dueling.
During her stay, Sini developed somewhat of an obsession with the Professor. Though this was only one-sided, Lorrimor did recognise potential in Sini as a student and they ended up frequently discussing various topics of interest.
To honour her mentor and her potential career, Sini wears a rather ceremonial outfit. With her rapier on her belt and white gloves on her hands, she also sports a dark brown coat with a blue aiguillette holding a white cloth on her left shoulder.
Note: Alignment subject to change, but I will likely remain on the good axis.

zolexa13 |

I've had a sanguine sorcerer dhampir I built awhile ago, just need to adjust stats and fine tune a few things. Will likely go with the Subject of Study trait, enemy vampires.
As the daughter of a noblewoman, Daviana had a pretty easy childhood, for a dhampir. Her mother was turned just before her birth and hid her vampirism for many years. Eventually, like all secrets do, it was revealed and her mother killed. Not by peasants or humans, as in the case of most of these stories, but by the vampire who had sired her.
Daviana has spent much of her mother's former wealth funding others to deal with vampires and other undead scourges. However, she herself constantly hears the call of the blood. In lands like Ustalav, however, toeing the line between human and monster is not only required for her own sanity, but in order to avoid the end of someone else's pointy stake.
She respected Professor Lorrimor, he never looked at her as a monster. Yes, he found her a fascinating study subject, but also a friend. She is deeply saddened by his loss and has left her hidden comforts to brave exposure to pay her respects.
Daviana is a Lawful Neutral necromancer. Focusing on blood, cold and negative energy spells. She actually dislikes full undead so doesn't create any of her own.

rungok |

I am totally okay with the suggested detail and will work it into my fleshed out backstory. I changed his alignment to Lawful Neutral, it just seemed more appropriate. Let me do the 10 minute background thing now:
He spent many years perfecting a thesis for the university. He believed he needed to start his career perfectly, and that needed a stellar performance from the first day forward. When he was finally approved, his thesis accepted, and he was ready to take on duties as an investigator, the university received word of Lorrimor's passing. His new position was placed on hold for an indeterminate period of time while he attends the funeral and affairs on behalf of the university, surprisingly at Lorrimor's request. Professor Coil wonders if this twist of fate was just Lorrimor using his last wishes to further rub his supposed superiority in his face.
Five things:
1. An up and coming professor at Lepistadt univeristy
2. Had a personal history with Lorrimor
3. Was driven to prove the better academic, but wouldn't go beyond the rules of his establishment to succeed. If he was going to 'win', he would do so within the system.
4. He's got a dueling scar from a fight he had over a female.
5. He's stern and severe in demeanor, with a dry sense of humor.
Two Goals:
1. Obviously, be recognized as a better academic than Lorrimor ws.
2. Find a subject of his next thesis and cement his Tenure at Lepistadt University.
Two Secrets:
1. Professor Coil had been jailed because of the duel he had fought, but Lorrimor had discretely had him bailed out. To the day he died, Lorrimor hadn't told anyone of his indescretion and Coil still hasn't figured out why.
2. Lorrimor knew entirely about Coil's sentiments, but he played intentionally ignorant in order to drive Morian to excel beyond what would have been comfortable. He saw the potential for a great scholar in the elf, and was okay becoming a 'rival' for the betterment of the university.
Three ties:
1. Thranduin Ivyheart (enemies) The husband of the female Morian had been dallying with, still angry at him for sleeping with his wife.
2.Lisette Ivyheart (romance) Once childhood friends with Morian, she had an affair with him after she got married and realized the feelings she had for him. She was disappointed in him for fighting a duel over her, and has mixed feelings about the situation in general.
3. Lorrimor's Family (honor) Professor Coil still sees Lorrimor as a rival, even after death, but a great rival deserves to be respected.
Three Memories:
1. Coil remembers growing up in Lepistadt alongside other elven children. He loved learning his people's tales and playing with Lisette and Thranduin and others growing up.
2. Professor Coil remembers his acceptance to Lepistadt University and the struggles he had as an undergraduate.
3. Professor Coil remembers the months that he and Professor Lorrimor spent studying a dhampir sorcerer's blood and bloodline, and how Lorrimor always treated them as a person, not a study subject.

TO ALL APPLICANTS You may move a single point from one ability score to another. Additionally, please post submissions either under an Alias/Avatar, or in a Spoiler (much appreciated).
@MadCaster I admit, I am intrigued as to see how a Harbinger of the End of the World would fit into a group working against the Whispering Way.
@NotEspi What were you thinking of for a flaw for Sini? I like the start of the background and personality, and would encourage you to flesh it out further.
Zolexa13 I welcome the nonstandard race selection!

![]() |

D'oh, forgot to include dice the first time around:
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 2) + 6 = 12
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 = 8
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 6 = 12
Hmm, that'll be....interesting. Easy to be flawed :)
Second set, thanks for the reroll option Wayward!
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13 -1 = 12
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17 +1 = 18
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
Stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 = 16
Nothing like coming out pretty solidly improved!

NotEspi |
@NotEspi What were you thinking of for a flaw for Sini? I like the start of the background and personality, and would encourage you to flesh it out further.
I was thinking about making her insecure and/or overly competitive due to the ridicule she received in officer training. Perhaps even a one-upper/braggart. I guess that does fit the swashbuckler theme pretty well. Assuming you'd be interested in that, let me know and I'll expand the backstory.

Phntm888 |
Hmm...I will express interest, as well.
Caveat, approximately 4 or 5 years ago I went through a very small portion of the beginning of the AP in a face to face group. I don't remember very much, but I don't think we got past the first part of book 1. We certainly never came close to leveling up.
I'm going to go ahead and roll stats, but if you would like to PM me to discuss, feel free.
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
Ouch...

Storyteller Shadow |

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 4) + 6 = 12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
Well, I know where the 9 is going :-)
I will move the 9 down to an 8 for Wisdom and make the 14 a 15 for my Intelligence.
Edit: Second set, usually the d6 roller does not favor me but here goes!
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15 = 16 Intelligence +2 Human 18 Total
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 6 = 10 = 9 Wisdom
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 5) + 6 = 12 = 12 Charisma
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14 = 14 Constitution
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13 = 13 Strength
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16 = 16 Dexterity
I will make the 10 a 9 for Wisdom and the 15 a 16 for Intelligence.

Phntm888 |
I will happily take a reroll.
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 6 = 13 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 6 = 13 = 13-1=12
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6) + 6 = 17 = 17+1=18
Well, that's a much better combination. Turn the 17 into an 18, drop a 13 to a 12, and I have plenty of flexibility for my character's racial adjustment (s). I will probably be Human, but I might try something different.

Here is Yolollama's submission for a Chelaxian Noble turned mystery novelist and Empiricist Investigator. her concept is almost entirely about support which is a bit ironic given her personality. I might need to adjust some skills but she should all be there with mechanics and fluff. Thank you for the opportunity.
