Eberron ala Fabian (Inactive)

Game Master Fabian Benavente

Hey Eberron fans,

I recently started a classic Eberron game with Pathfinder rules. I have four players but I find that five players are usually better so…

I’m looking for a 5th player to join our game.

However, be aware that the recruitment threads for my games don’t usually get a lot of responses and this being set in a ‘dead world’ may even get less responses.

I think the reason is because my games require true player commitment. I GM the games at a fairly fast pace and ask that players post AT LEAST once per day. More posting is always better. I also like the posts to be well developed and either move the story forward or engage PCs or NPCs in roleplaying, hopefully both.

I also use turn recaps where I post all the players’ IC posts and then add one or more situations for PCs to roleplay. The turn recaps also has OOC information, pics, maps, PC and NPC status, etc.

Before posting your interest here, please take some time to look at the game in progress and make sure that this game is something you would enjoy and would like to participate.

If this hasn’t scared you, then please post the fluff (appearance, background, and personality) for your proposed character.

Just so you can start thinking about the crunch part (some people work this way), here are some guidelines: Eberron races, 2nd level characters, 20 point buy system for abilities, no abilities below 8 or above 18 after adjustments, no evil characters, average gold, maximum hit points at 1st level and then half+1 (d8 is 5, d12 is 7, etc.) for other levels, two regular traits, and we are using background skills. However, please be reminded that PC selection will be based on the ‘fluff’ and not the ‘crunch’.

I’m sure I missed something here so please ask me questions.

Game on!

Fabian

Ill have time tomorrow to take a look at your style/ turn recaps. I enjoy Eberron so you've peaked my interest.

Eberron fans are preferable but I can work with enthusiastic players who are new to the setting as well.

Take a look at turn recaps and player posts (which are in the discussion thread BTW) and see if this is something you would enjoy.

I would be also interested. A lot of the Pbps pique my interest but then something often just throws me off for them. Eberron games don't have that effect, because I enjoy the setting and the relative lack of stock D&D tropes. The only two questions I have are these:

1. Do you use psionics ala 3.5 or the PF update by Dreamscarred Press?
2. Do you use stock artificers or modified ones?

We would use psionics as Dreamscarred Press.

I'm using the Eberron Pathfinder conversion found here and changing it as necessary to make it feel like classic Eberron. The only changes I've made so far as very minor.

So I would start with the artificer found there and adjust if necessary.

More questions?

I'm definitely dotting this for interest. What kind of character would fit best for a fifth person in the group? Any kind of personality in particular that would fit in?

Okay, I've read the turn recaps. Wow, that's a lot of work for you! But I reads more like a book and is very easy to catch up on what has happened so far. Also, it appeares that you have some very prolific writers/role players in your current group and I am afraid that I might not be in their league (yet). With that said I am able to post 1 or 2 times a day and I am willing to put the effort in.

Please mark me as officially interested and I will be submitting a halfling dinosaur rider of some sort. Fluff to come and if selected I'll work on the crunch.

To steal your catchphrase- Game on!

Yes, it does take work but I wouldn't GM my games any other way.

Luckily, I have found some suckers players that indulge me.

I set up a decent stage but they do some awesome acting.

ON CHARACTERS
We have:
dragonmarked human wizard,
warforged alchemist;
warforged fighter/warpriest; and
changeling rogue.

For this part of the campaign, I am going through the classic Eberron modules so some of the action is in civilized city, such as Sharn.

If you follow through with the dino-PC, make sure PC can do without his dino for parts of the campaign because it won't be practical to take it everywhere.

Other great options include:

- dragonmarked anything;
- shifter outdoor-anything;
- investigator/spy;
- Silver Flame anything;
- orc or half-orc druids gatekeeper;
- hobgoblin heirs of Dhakaan;
- Valenar elf;
- Demon Wastes barbarian anything;
- artificer;
- Karnathi commander of undead troops;
- Aundair magus (knight-mage);

Eberron is ful of great fluff.

Are you allowing Dreamscarred Psionics for the campaign?

WarforgedMan wrote:

Yes, I stated so above.

We will only use classes that have the classic Eberron feel to them.

I apologize, I somehow totally missed it. >_<

Silver Crusade

Dotting. I always wanted to play Eberron, but never got to. I had a great concept for an artificer too. Let me put it back together, and I'll post it tomorrow.

Here is the fluff of my submission. As far as crunch goes there are several different ways I can go right now I am leaning toward barbarian or bloodrager (something that will eventually let me get a dinosaur!) but could easily be talked into something else.

Appearance:

Rathan is well muscled like one of the dinosaurs of the plains and is tall for a halfling. He is broad shouldered and deep of chest, with a thick corded neck and heavily muscled limbs. His skin is bronzed from constant exposure to the elements and is covered in scars that accentuate the hard, dangerous lines of his body. Although he is big for a Halfling, Rathan moves with the grace of a saber toothed tiger and has the predatory gaze of a raptor. He has smoldering dark green eyes that appear to take everything in while his bronzed, almost sinister face, is that of a warrior. Rathan is clean shaven with a dark flowing mane of hair that reaches to his shoulders. He usually wears armor made from the hide of some great lizard and carries the traditional weapons of his people. When on the hunt or readying for combat Rathan can be seen wearing his spirit mask.

Personality:

Despite being of two different cultures Rathan is at heart a product of the Talenta Plains and tries to keep the old ways, recognizing his ancestor’s spirits in the happenings around him. He also tries to keep the spirit of the hunt alive in his daily undertakings. Often thinking of mundane activities in terms of predator and prey. In spite of this, his frequent visits and extended stays in Gatherhold has taught much about civilized ways.

While he is a barbarian there is more to Rathan then meets the eye. He is open and inquisitive as well as a lover of debate and physical challenges, embracing these as experiences which will please his ancestors. Additionally, he often gives advice in riddles, aphorisms, and metaphors of his people.

Background:

Rathan was raised by his mother’s Tribe, a hard and self-reliant people, wandering across the Talenta Plains. His mother was the Mask Weaver for the tribe an enjoyed the love of her tribe and the respect of her peers. His father was a member of House Ghallanda and made his home in Gatherhold. While Rathan spent most of his time with his mother’s people he would stay at Gatherhold for extended periods of time, bonding with his father and learning the ways of civilization.

Like most of the tribes of the Talenta Plains Rathan’s Tribe could not avoid the war. Drawn into the conflict, the war took its toll on the small tribe, and their numbers dwindled even further. During this conflict Rathan served as a scout for the Karrnathi Calvary forces operating within the Talenta Plains. After the war Rathan was struck with a wander lust and often separated from his tribe for long stretches at a time. He spent time as a mercenary and guide as he wandered the lands and cities of Karrnath.

It was after ones such excursion he returned to his tribe and found every one of them recently slaughtered. Among the victims of this atrocity was his mother, worse still her spirit mask was taken from her corpse preventing her spirit from being released into Dolurrh. Rathan was able examine the scene and piece together what happened. He concluded that the slaughter of his small tribe was done by a Warfoged. Using the skills he honed on the plains he was able to follow the tracks of the Warforged to the lightning rail system in Gatherhold. Rathan asked a few questions and he found that a Warforged had indeed boarded the rail there. With his father’s help he was able to secure passage on the rail to pursue his quarry. Rathan's luck continued as he followed the Warforged across the continent as one of the porters said he remembered seeing a Warforged get off at a station in Sharn. Hopeful, Rathan disembarked there to continue the search for his tribe’s exterminator and the thief of his mother’s mask. It has been weeks now and Rathan has been discouraged that no new leads have appeared. However, his faith that his ancestor’s spirits will guide him to where he needs to be is still strong.

As stated above, the game has already started and there are limited opportunities to introduce a new PC.

As such, please post your proposed PC by tomorrow (10/18/16 at 6:00 pm EST).

I'll then make a choice among applicants and work with the selected player to introduce the PC to the game as soon as possible.

I am SO excited for this. I would love the opportunity to play in an Eberron game. Are you oppossed to using Skinwalkers from Blood of the Moon: Pathfinder Companion book? They are basically updated Shifters. I have a character that I'll post for this game.

I would rather keep the shifters as shown in the website cited above.

We'll make changes on a case by case basis but I don't want to redo the work already done.

Hi - proposed PC - riffing off the 'Karnathi Commander of Undead' outlined in the opening post.

Name: Karola Kraal, Lawful Neutral female dhampir (dayborn) cleric Lord of Undeath 2

Spoiler:

Appearance: Karola is short, slight and pale-skinned, with auburn hair.

Personality: Karola can be just as bright, vivacious and charming as the moment requires... but both the stresses of war and the darkness lingering in her blood drive her natural instinct to a kind of quiet solitude.

Background: Karola is the daughter of junior Karnathi nobles Karoly and Syele Kraal. She’s never known her father - he was killed early in the Last War. In truth, Karola is the illegitimate child of Kaius I of Karnath, who took solace with Syele - she for her husband’s death, him for his transformation by Vol.

Her mother took every step to protect her from the darkness in her youth, taking her far from the dangers of the capital and encouraging her interest in ballet. When Karola was a teenager, Syele was slain in a Cyran raid on their border estate, and their household scattered. She was taken in by the military academy of Rekkenmark. Believing in no power beyond herself, became a cleric of the Blood of Vol in service to the Karnathi state, raising undead troops and leading them into battle.

The horrors of war have scarred her brutally, seeing friends and comrades die, then raising their bodies to throw once more into the fray. As decade followed futile decade, she grew to hate the war and her part in it, though she could never bring herself to forgive Cyre for her parents death. That nation’s destruction on the day of mourning shattered the core of vengeance that’d driven her, leaving her empty. Never a member of the Emerald Claw, her primary loyalty was always to the Karnathi state (and alongside its leadership) she’s now utterly devoted to the cause of peace.

If only it weren’t for those pesky war-crimes allegations...

Thanks for the interest in the game. I'll consider this PC for inclusion in the game.

Just realized I forgot to do equipment. Should it be 140gp (average for 1st level cleric), or 1000gp (wealth-by-level for 2nd level character)? There wouldn't be anything surprising in either case - definitely a breastplate if I could afford it though.

Go with the standard 1,000 gp for a 2nd level PC.

Hi - then I'll take a Masterwork Breastplate 350gp and Masterwork Heavy Steel Shield for 170gp, add 'Sleeves of Many Garments' for 200gp, leaving me with 280gp remaining for whatever. That should give me an AC of 19.

Dark Archive

Im in a bit of a predicament so im doing something odd. I'm posting my investigator from a game that died out. I am currently finishing midterms, so I unfortunately dont have time to convert her to Ebberon before the deadline, but i thought that you might glean some inkling of my style and effort I've poured into her. I would change from skinwalker to shifter and give her a more nature focus. Her personality would be still be choleric but more rugged. The group dynamic might have a lot of fun with introducing a stern or down to earth presence. I was hesitant to submit her considering she doesnt meant many of your guidlines but I would be terribly remiss if I didnt at least try to be apart of this frankly, staggeringly deep game. Eberron was what introduced me to D&D and it would be fantastic to visit the world again. So I suppose im selling myself on my strength and dedication as a player. Either way, I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to reading more about this groups adventures.

Thank you all for your interest and submissions.

I'd like for G-unit (Rathan, halfling barbarian?) to hop on over to the discussion thread so we can finalize details to have the PC start playing as soon as possible.

Happy gaming to all!

Hey Eberron fans,

I am GMing a classic Eberron game with Pathfinder rules. I have four players but I find that five players are usually better so…

The current party is composed of:
dragonmarked human wizard,
warforged alchemist;
warforged fighter/warpriest; and
changeling rogue.

The group is in Sterngate (Breland) and about to embark on an Orien Caravan to Rhukaan Draal so the best way to introduce a new PC is to have them be on the same caravan or meet them in Rhukaan Draal, shortly after the main group arrives.

Half a dot.
I love Eberron and the game looks amazing, but it IS a tough commitment and it's exam season.

Thanks for the interest.

I understand that this game is not for everyone but the RPing and story that we put together is well worth it IMHO.

The last player only lasted a few weeks before disappearing without a word so I want this next player to stick around.

Hi Fabian, I'd be interested. It's bedtime (well, it is for me, anyway) now but I'll check out the thread and see what that inspires.

OK, looking at it purely from a party mix perspective, we have an arcanist, an alchemist, a divine caster (but not totally devoted to it) and a rogue. While there aren't any gaps as such, I was thinking of maybe a cleric or an oracle to maybe beef up the divine caster angle, as while the party isn't entirely lacking it might be a bit weak on that side.

The concept that springs to mind is of a goblin cleric of the Sovereign Host, or maybe even the Silver Flame, from Sharn. He's really not very "culturally goblin" having been raised in a human city, but he's fired up with zeal to visit and proselytise amongst his goblin kin in Darguul. It's an initial concept and I haven't had a chance to read the game thread yet and get a feel if that's appropriate, so I'm happy to tweak as necessary.

Hey Aubrey,

We cross-posted and I had sent you the suggestion of an 'outdoors-type' PC.

However, if that doesn't interest you, I'm sure you'll come up with a very interesting goblin cleric.

Please hop on over to the discussion thread and we can work on a PC and how to best (read quickly) introduce him to the game with input from me and the other players.

Everyone else: given the lack of interest, I am closing down the recruitment.

OK, I'm struggling with the website at the moment - having to use the hidden byways to get to the campaign threads rather than the links on the front, which seem broken, plus I can't see your attachments at work as google docs is blocked. So I'm afraid I haven't had a chance yet to read the thread and get an idea of what has been happening. That said, I will flesh out my goblin cleric and hopefully we can integrate him. I shall post on the Discussion thread.

Glad you found someone, I'm sorry but I really couldn't commit to it.

Mh i would love to play in one of your games again. Just missing that level of commitment and the deep atmosphere it creates.
Unfortunately even though i have the Eberron book somewhere in my parents basement, i don´t remember much, what makes the fluff part a bit difficult.

So, at this point you have completely closed down for new players? Just came back to the site after a while away and was looking to dive back into online game and love the Eberron setting- I guess I will just need to keep an eye open in case you open up recruitment again.
