From an entertainment value standpoint, the ideal would be for him to clearly get warmed up for a four-alarm rant, only for Sylgja to cut in, breaking the momentum...

K, so, fair warning. Vinccenso is a teenager, with a (comparatively) low Wisdom.
He also has a bad case of what I refer to as 'smartest-person-in-the-room' syndrome.

'Why is this pertinent?' you may ask.

Well, you basically just called him a coward for suggesting a possible non-violent resolution to an issue & then told him his idea was dumb because the Troll was just a Beast, not a sentient creature.
My question now, for the entire party, is 'How much should he escalate this & be 'in character', or should I refrain in the interests of party cohesion & moving the game along?

It does not. But the nonlethal or lethal damage from cold is reduced by the resistance, down to none.

So, Technically no, Effectively yes. Nice...

As it seems Adrian is asking about Weaknesses, or would that be the special in special defenses?..
In fact, I will ask, is there anything in particular Moss Trolls are more partial too, that might work as a bribe?

Hallit "It should go without saying, but this is Irrisen," Vinccenso's eyes flick directly to Irina's as he says that, "Little Grandmother's own home-away-from-home. I don't recall you telling us earlier," turning his attention once more to Sylgja, "if either you or your husband did attempt to treat with the Troll before he chose such, martial interactions with it?"
"Ettinvolk* are bestial, not beasts. Indeed, Moss Trolls are rather infamous as among the cleverer of their kind, bribery
might have served better than violence."

*Vinccenso is broadly lumping Giant sub-type humanoids here.

Failing to completely conceal a smirk at the 'Warriors' comment, the gangly youth, almost as tall as Goliath, sketches a preemptive bow in Irina's direction. "Дајем вам добар дан." He rejoins, "Бојим се да нисам ниједан човек под оружјем, само путујући учењак."
"I'll answer to Vinccenso."

Although the name he offers is Southern, his features show clear Northern stock, though the only arms he bears are the dagger at his belt & the staff leaning against his chair. It's also fairly apparent he is unlikely to have met his second decade yet...
His clothes & gear are almost aggressively drab & worn, though well cared for.

Dear Grandmother, what is the Knowledge check to recall details about Moss Trolls?

Heya!

Artofregicide, in answer to your question regarding Annalise...

So, this character is actually one I first made up for a homebrew that was originally just supposed to be a rom-com if you can believe it. Virtually identical to how he's currently presented, just some of the place-names & world events changed. Annalise was always the love of his life, in the original she died in the events of the diaspora in which he also lost his/their homeland...
In the present incarnation, she was the daughter of a Riddleport Pirate Captain & well on her way to becoming one herself before she became another casualty in a turf war between 'factions' there. A turf war that also ended Vinccenso's mother's life.
Vinccenso's Mother was a Kellid refugee who somehow made her way to Riddleport from parts North, fell in with a bad crowd, and wound up a prostitute. Vinccenso was actually trying to convince her to leave his Namesake & either let him support her from his adventuring or at least work in the Calistrian Temple in Riddleport, since the head priestess there was effectively in charge of the sex-work industry there, which might have had something to do with the two women in Vinccenso's life getting targeted & killed. Vinccenso's not the best at working out probable consequences (Low Wisdom, go figure...)

Since then, I figure he made his way North, probably via the Linnorm Kings, being the mercenary sort, he likely hired himself out to a trade caravan between the Linnorm Kings & Irrisen with the intent to try & track down his Mother's people & learn more about his 'real' people...

I hope I'm not too late to press my suit?

Vinccenso Pruffi, at your service.

Everyone, thanks to health reasons, I am going to bow out.
Good luck to all and have fun.

Vinccenso Pruffi, born to second generation Italian immigrants to the Chicago area in the beginning of the twentieth century, he was an unusually studious child & was expected to join the church by all who knew him growing up.
Unfortunately, he attracted the attention of a monster far more terrifying than the most corrupt of pedophile priests. Malachius Volk, recently re-assigned to the Chicago Chantry soon after rousing from a long torpor in Vienna after a successful hunt of one of the last of the Salubri found himself drawn to something about the boy.
Manipulating the parish priest into grooming young Vinccenso for the priesthood among other things, Malachius took advantage of Vinccenso's youth & inexperience to interpose himself as a knowledgeable figure in matters of scholarship & the world. With time, Vinccenso soon came to view him as an authority figure even moreso than his own father or priest. As the years went on, Vinccenso would grow ever more entangled within Malachius' web. Finally, with only a few months before Vinccenso would begin seminary, Malachius had received permission of the Seven to embrace Vinccenso as a childe of House & Clan Tremere.

Needless to say, this was a revelation of an entirely different nature than Vinccenso could ever have expected; for Malachius, though so debauched, dissolute & degraded from his centuries not only as a Kindred but also as a hunter & devourer of Salubri as to be almost a mockery of humanity, was also long experienced at concealing his inhumanity, particularly from those who would be long in his company.

On the eve of Vinccenso's embrace, he & Malachius took a train ride to Gary, where Malachius introduced him to a number of odd nocturnal acquaintances, hinting that several of these individuals would prove influential in his later life. The following day, Vinccenso wandered Gary's streets, contemplating his future & praying at the parish church.

The following day, Mr & Mrs Pruffi received the sobering news that their youngest son had died in a car crash, his body so mangled & burned that it was unrecognizable.

The truth of course was that While Vinccenso did die that night, as certain 'Wits' would have it, 'he got better'. This was in the years between the end of the Great War & the beginning of the Great Depression & the idea of questioning the authorities in such a matter had yet to really catch on.

DM Dickie:
What follows concerns Vinccenso's Dark Secret, consequently, I considered it appropriate that only you read it, at least until you decide whether you are going to allow it in the game or not.
Little did any of the parties know, that Malachius' victims might also play their part, for every Salubri that Malachius had consumed continued on in a way within his own diseased soul. Continued on, and plotted for their release from such a degenerate prison. Indeed, the compulsion Malachius felt for Vinccenso was the result of the Salubri shards still within him sensing the potential within the boy.
That night, as Vinccenso felt his own life flooding into Malachius & something else enter him in it's stead, he heard something, a susseration of voices asking him
'is this truly what you want?'
He answered the voices 'No'.

The consequences were imperceptible at first. Vinccenso was no more or less traumatized by his death & new un-life than any other whelp. He showed no more or less aptitude for the manipulations & Disciplines of the Clan than any other newly embraced whelp. Even his introspective withdrawal was hardly unusual for a newly embraced child of the house. Of course, the third eye which only opened when he was completely alone & able to focus solely upon the secrets the voices whispered to him was...
unprecedented,
to say the least, within the 'publicly' accessible tomes within the Chantry. Over the nights & years since then, Vinccenso has come to understand that his own, personal, Masquerade is just as necessary & just as uncertain as that which conceals the Kindred from the Kine.

Knowledge (planes) plus inspiration: 1d20 + 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (11) + (1) + 8 = 20 to recall particular weaknesses of Yeth Hounds.
Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 to recall relevant details about Nualia.
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 to recall relevant details about Lamashtu.
Mostly the last two are justification for him shooting his mouth off in response to Raynard & Faywen's earlier replies to his previous comment...

"Technically Lamashtu is recognized as a fertility goddess..." Vinccenso mutters sotto vocce as the others pipe up.

"You said Nualia was leading this confederation?" He adds, "Why would the adopted Aasimar daughter of the former town priest want that?" Vinccenso's gaze slides from Raynard, to Faywen, to rest, piercingly, on Sheriff Hemlock as he muses inquiringly.

"Wait, notes?" He continues, turning his attention back to the distraught Kitsune. "Where are these notes?"

Sooo...

I find it grimly hilarious that of the current characters, three all share the same Campaign Trait...

And thanks to Vinccenso being his usual self, two of them are well on their way to not being able to stand him...

That being said, now is the time to let me know if I need to crank back on the 'know-it-all'-ness of the character. As I have played him in the past, Vinccenso covers for his past emotional scars by doubling down on being the smartest guy in the room. If the players enjoy this, I have no problem with it generating friction with other characters, but if is a problem for other players, please let me know now so I can make adjustments.

Because I really need to know if I need to dial him back a bit, I am holding off on making any more gameplay posts until I hear back from you guys. Not skeeving off, just really need to know.

"Tieflings are also found about Lost Sarkoris, called the Worldwound these days," the tall, lanky fellow interjects as he folds himself about one of the chairs, "honestly, anywhere the land finds itself in the grip of the nether planes."
"There, you will find sad souls warped by it's presence, Tieflings, in short."

Oh, and bump him up to third level, Second Level spells baby!

So I will need to dig up my original build for this guy, but the Campaign I first made him for, he had maxed Performance:vocal. It was a kind of experimental rom/com kind of campaign, suboptimal as all hell, but it was fun.

This is probably going to be Irnk's entry.
Will make some adjustments as necessary to bring him into this campaign, but fundamentally this guy.

Fluff should be up to spec. This character is currently built on a twenty point buy, so I will need to update him to 25, which will mostly consist of bringing anything currently below ten up to ten, most likely.

Edit: All info is on the sheet itself.

second edit: Scratch previous statement regarding updating because that should be done now...

Ah well. Denied again. Everyone chosen, good luck & have fun!.

Did a double check, realized you had a 'no ability below 10 before racial mods' clause in play, made him a bit less rash & impulsive. (I.E.: brought his Wisdom up to 10)
I will go back & more completely document those things which aren't from the CRB, (The Archetype, the non-Campaign trait, both Feats...
Wow, I didn't realize how much I pulled from sources other than the CRB for him...)

Hopefully everything here meets spec. I believe it should, I've submitted him to several previous RotRL Campaigns. If you have any questions or changes you would like me to make, please let me know.

Vinccenso Pruffi, for your consideration. I there is something you wish to know that I have not included, please tell me.

2nd Level Wizard HD, first try: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3, 2nd Level Wizard HD, second try: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3...
Well, guess that is that

Pretty much straight Wizard with a side order of 'know-it-all'. Any questions, please feel free to ask. His background is in his write-up.

Ah well. Everyone chosen, have fun!

In general I have no difficulty with at least one post per day, either during the week or the weekend.
How much longer are you intending to keep applications open & when do you think you will have made your selections??

'Vinc' glances askance at the others about him, shaking his head fractionally as he steps slightly farther away.

How do you feel about Archetypes? I believe this character meets your criteria, but he is built with the Scroll Scholar Archetype from the Pathfinder Society Field Guide. Mechanically, I merely switch out the Hand of the Apprentice ability for a 1/2 level bonus on a knowledge skill (in this case Arcana)& add more knowledge bonuses when I reach higher levels; I also replace my 5th level bonus Wizard feat for being able to use Comprehend languages & Identify as SLA's later on.

In answer to your questions:

Vinccenso wants to get as far away from Riddleport & the bad memories it evokes as possible. He makes his living the way most itinerant Wizards do, being the guy 'who knows things'; he is also a fairly capable animal husbandman. What he looks like is part of the Character sheet, but in three words 'snarky bean-pole', otherwise the avatar is pretty much accurate. Vinccenso has done enough running, certainly enough that he isn't going to immediately cut & run, not without making certain that any others who wish to are able to escape as well. He doesn't sacrifice others for his own well-being.

hustonj wrote:

I saw in another thread where a Paizo book due out in Feb adds a trait making Disable Device a Class Skill AND allowing the disarming of magical traps.

It isn't quite the same as getting the Rogue bonuses for the skill, but it opens things up greatly.

If you are talking about the Trap Finder trait, that is a Campaign Trait specifically for the Mummy's Mask AP. Thematically, it is most appropriate for that AP.

By Rogue skills, are you talking about Disable Device specifically, or is there something else?

Is everyone just starting or are they already some ways in? Are there any skills in particular you feel are needed of the 'skill monkey'?

While this character is built on 20 rather than 25 points, it would be of little difficulty to adjust him upward if he otherwise fits your criteria.

Minkers wrote:
Vinccenso Pruffi: From what I have read I like this character. Is there anything you could tell me about what motivates him or what his goals are? If not than that's okay, I'm just being curious.

Right now, Vinccenso's goals & motivations are pretty much just away. Away from Riddleport, away from the 'pointless' violence, betrayals & general skullduggery.

Of course, once he has managed to be away for a while, he has always been quite interested in the history of the Thassilon/Varisia & in fact, the reason why he is in Sandpoint right now is because his master & he had been frequent correspondents with a historian here, and that guy is just about his only 'close' friend left.
Also, his mother raised him in the 'Green Faith' as best she was able, so he has a deeper appreciation for Nature than is common for a Wizard.
Being a teenager, he is still more driven by his hormones than he would like to admit, so the chance to catch the eye of a cute girl will probably, consciously or not, sway him as well.

Hopefully, those answers were helpful, even if they were a bit vague. I will take another look at the questions later & see if I can't answer some more of them more directly.

Alright, this is Irnk's second character submission.

Background:
Born the bastard son of a Kellid whore & an unnamed foreign sailor, Vinccenso's mother named him after her Riddleport pimp to assuage the man's pride & keep him from simply killing or selling the child, at least until his adolescence when it became apparent that he had significant innate talent for the arcane arts...
Enough so that Amicus Falco, a retired Pathfinder & occasional mercenary pirate mage living in Riddleport offered him an apprenticeship.
An offer the pimp happily accepted as it meant, to his mind at least, one less mouth to feed.
Vinccenso found that life apprenticed to a Wizard agreed with him, though he didn't take to the discipline of Riddleport piracy any more than adequately at best; the constant travel, experience with different places & situations and the camaraderie of the sailors with whom he found himself constantly, spoke to him in ways life as the Bastard son of a pimp never did.
Particularly when he met Annalisse Mercuri.
The only child of a several generations long pirate tradition, Annalisse was almost everything Vinccenso wasn't; dutiful, disciplined, attentive to the consequences of her actions & the actions of those about her; the two of them clashed at almost every meeting. Only Vinccenso's clear utility & potential saved him from summary dismissal long enough for the two of them to recognize a mutual regard.
A regard shattered by his mother's unsolved murder & the 'turf war' between Riddleport's Overlord & the leader of the 'Cypher Mages', who had been trying to entice Amicus to join them since he had returned to the city of his childhood.
In the aftermath, Vinccenso decided he had had enough of Riddleport life & decided to see what the rest of Varisia had to offer.

Appearance:
At nineteen, Vinccenso is a lanky, loose-limbed individual, standing noticeably over six foot in height; with an insouciant manner & a smirk that even divine wrath might have difficulty removing.

Personality:
'I will go down with this ship. I will not put my hands up in surrender. There will be no white flag upon my door.
I'm in love & always will be.'
Dido

About those things & people Vinccenso cares, he cares deeply. At the same time, life as the bastard son of a murdered whore with no family, no loved ones & no real home has lead him to the conclusion that in the eyes of the world & the gods around him, he is nothing more than a commodity...
And a commodity does not offer anything of itself freely.

More & more, I'm feeling that I may have bit off more than I can chew in terms of Campaign activity. That said, I have had a lot of fun here guys & I hope the rest of you continue to do so as well.

DireMerc, go ahead & phase Vinccenso out as you see fit. At least he is presently 'off-stage'. Would you also please be so kind as to remove me from the 'current players/characters' roster?

From what I understood Vincce is going to the chantry and everyone else is going to the saloon? Can someone confirm that?

Barring his side-job before observing the location, yes.

Perception/Alertness (Heightened Senses is active): 5d10 ⇒ (10, 1, 6, 10, 1) = 28... One success
I really need to pick out a Perception Specialty...

Vince 'has' relented, sort-of. He is perf-... compl-... qui-...
willing to work with you guys, personally; but he knows that, abandoned or not, there is no way that the Clan is going to be 'ok' with non-Tremere having anything to do with a Chantry, especially not without him even having made an attempt at forewarning or permission.
Which is why he is making the attempt first.

"The ashes of a dead Vampire, a monster we know nothing about...
and a Mortal, Hunter"
Vinccenso replies. "None of which are likely to have been affected by some of the wards I am talking about. The entire point of those Wards is to be selective in their effects."
At Erik's comment, Vinccenso turns to him, arches his brow, shakes his head & turns to leave the building once more.

Vinccenso stares intently at the child-Vampire for several seconds.

'Purple Baby Monkey Butt. Purple Baby Monkey Butt! Purple Baby Monkey Butt!!!'
Huh, nothing. Guess he either can't read my mind, or simply isn't interested at the moment...

Shrugging, Vinccenso turns back to the others. "No offense Ben, but I don't tell you what will & won't raise your standing with your 'peeps', don't tell me what is going to raise my standing with mine."
"Not that much could..."
"Fine, what I haven't said, is that there is a very real probability that some, if not all, of the wards are still active & you do not want to get caught in those, so let me do my job!"

"No." Vinccenso replies flatly.
"Just knowing where it is potentially puts all of you on a very short & very...
fluid list."
Turning back to Erik. "As it happens, I was going to inform my 'Elders' of the present...
excitement,
regarding the Chantry in question."
"If I receive explicit permission to allow outsiders to assist me in addressing this...
concern, then I will...
ask for 'local talent'"
As the others stare at him uncomprehendingly. "Meaning you guys."
