Thinking of running it...
Any advices on what to take from those DM's that have already ventured so far? :-)

The Pathfinder Society has turned its attention to the Ruby Phoenix Tournament—a world-renowned fighting competition, held once every ten years in the city of Goka on the eastern continent of Tian Xia.
More specifically, the Decemvirate is interested in the incredible prizes available to the tournament’s winner—a choice of treasure from the legendary vaults of Hao Jin, the Ruby Phoenix herself.
As part of the preparations for the tournament, Pathfinder Society agents have been deployed across the Inner Sea and beyond to seek out forgotten lore, allies, and magical items to be used by the Society’s tournament representatives.

Venture-Captain Amara Li, leader of the Lantern Lodge and Goka native, has uncovered information about one such item hidden amid the reaches of the Wall of Heaven—an Iroran relic known as the Braid of a Hundred Masters. Organizing the search from her base in the Dragon Empires, she intends to send a group of Pathfinders to the high mountain range in search of the braid’s ancient home: the Clouded Path Monastery.

Anything you want to do before leaving the city, please let me know.
I will be PMing you your Faction missions asap, please confirm in OOC tags in your following post if you have indeed received them.

Starting this (tier 1) in less than a week.
Might have some places open
Anyone interested?

This is an open (re-opened) invitation to anyone wanting to join our campaign. We barely scratched the surface, but due to circumstances are looking for a replacement to take over.

Information can be found on HERE, and by asking questions there aswell :-D

Heya guys,

I have been running Kingmaker for about 4 years now (ooc, 11 years ic) and we have reached a point where we have skipped some parts of booklet 3.
Since it' s a dynamic world, we created some Tier 2 characters to clear some of the lower-level problems, and to run them when the Tier 1 is doing some important stuff. This adds the extra dimension of having a feel between the T1 and T2 characters, and a nice back-up of in-game personae should another one bite the dust...

So.... I'm looking for a small adventure that could occupy level 6-7, placed in the Stolen Lands, to entertain them a bit more so they get a feel for their new characters.

I have run the Carnival of Tears with them, leaving them scarred for life :D

Any other ideas? This could be any module, PFS adventure, or part of an Adventure Path. :)
I have, as of right now,

  • "Carnival of Tears" => used
  • "Realm of the Fellnight Queen" => Nice!
  • "The Harrowing" though I'll probably use this one as a hook for their Tier 1 characters. It's too nice not to use it :)

    Map HERE! >> Initiative: ...

This is my generic intro story. Please rewrite this the way you see fit to make it work for your character. :)

    Generic:

The evening after you have received your Harrowing, you find yourself sleeping really badly. You are restless, and not cold water, splashed in your face or a glass of hot milk (or something similar) manage to make you feel sleepy. The night passes, and you toss and turn until you significant other kicks you out of the bed and tells you to sleep in the common room.

You find yourselves returning back to the caravan, and standing in front of the Harrower's cart. You see yourself doing it, but you make up your own excuse/reason as to why you are standing there. Could be that you wanted to ask her one more question, or maybe you want your money back because you don't believe in that kind of magic anymore. Maybe you think she placed a curse on you, and want to confront her with it before going trough the appropriate channels.

Once inside, you find yourself surrounded by some people you know from around the capital city.
The harrower is sitting in the middle, with a small note that seems to have been written by someone using their left foot instead of right hand, while on horseback going at considerable speed. You can see traces of blood, ink smudges and places where water touched the paper and it has crumbled slightly.

She tries to talk, but her throat is too hoarse from screaming silently. She points to the paper, where there are the following words written: "I'm sorry, *HE* made me do it. He told me to bring in Duke Borga, and I couldn't resist. Please forgive me for what I have done, and what I will do...
With those words she places the nineth card in her Harrowing, and a portal opens up which swallows all of you instantly.
The last thing you see is the woman throwing the Harrow deck after you, through the portal, before it closes.
To see picture, please refer to the discussion tab.

You will notice when you get up from the floor that you have come prepped for war. You brought your weapons, your scrolls, your potions and anything you thought woul be helpful. Weird, because you "only wanted to talk to her"... :)

    Map HERE! >> Initiative: ...

Hi-ho. Please post here once with your characters name as to make my life a little easier. Please keep posting in "recruitment" for as long as the adventure is not yet underway, as this will also make my life a little easier.
And all the little things help, in the end :D

This is not an open invite. Please refrain from posting if you're not a one of the people on the list.

All right, I have contacted a number of you for an interest check to be able to play "The Harrowing" via online play-by-post.

I'm looking for a group of four people, so unfortunately I won't be able to play with every one of you. This is too bad, coz I chose you guys because you fit into the group of people that has epic roleplay moments, and posts on a regular basis. And you don't use a single line-post :)

I'm not completely sure who exactly will want to play and who won't, so please post here. We can work out details and background and all that, before going on our crazy adventure.

This is the list of alternate personae I asked, with their "mains". Please post with what you have in mind (character concept/ background/ ...).

    • Zander Drax (Mezegis)
    • Jirani Kafr Abdu (jamie noone)
    • Ethan Sower (Cuchulainn)
    • Skaldi the Tallest (twilsemail)
    • Horatius Lartius (Bali)
    • Theor Garess (Dakcenturi)

    Kind regards,

    Rick

THIS IS MEANT FOR OUT OF CHARACTER TALK.

    Hello guys,

I'm new to the whole DM'ing of a PFS PBP, and I'm almost finished with my first one. Now I'll have to report it, and fill in the Chronicle Sheet. Could someone please tell me where I can get the Event Code? Thanks!

Hey guys, want to start another PFS PBP and thought I would give a shoutout in advance. I'm looking for either level 1s, or for level 5ish.
Still going through the adventures, trying to find something I like. Dotting for interest is ok.

Hey guys, have a little question.

Ran a session of Kingmaker yesterday, and two of my players ran.. well, fell into a trap which contained green slim.

I rolled 4d6 for falling damage (40 feet), and of course the Constitution damage. The ranger took 5 CON, tried to climb out and almost succeeded but botched the final role. So he fell back in (rolled 3d6 falling damage) but now I am uncertain whether or not I have to roll for CON damage again?

The other guy got 3 CON damage, but failed his first round and was still standing in it the second round. Should I have rolled up more CON damage for him aswell?

I believe I should, as well as rolling for the damage the green slime is inflicting on their clothes/weapons/etc, but I am unsure. Anyone care to offer me their help? Can't find it in the RAW, but might be missing something :)

    Green slime wrote:

Green Slime (CR 4): This dungeon peril is a dangerous variety of normal slime. Green slime devours flesh and organic materials on contact and is even capable of dissolving metal. Bright green, wet, and sticky, it clings to walls, floors, and ceilings in patches, reproducing as it consumes organic matter. It drops from walls and ceilings when it detects movement (and possible food) below.

A single 5-foot square of green slime deals 1d6 points of Constitution damage per round while it devours flesh. On the first round of contact, the slime can be scraped off a creature (destroying the scraping device), but after that it must be frozen, burned, or cut away (dealing damage to the victim as well). Anything that deals cold or fire damage, sunlight, or a remove disease spell destroys a patch of green slime. Against wood or metal, green slime deals 2d6 points of damage per round, ignoring metal's hardness but not that of wood. It does not harm stone.

So the spell "reincarnate" is proving to be a handful.

    Situation:
Halfling sorcerer dies, gets reincarnated, rolls a 78 for human.

    The way I see it:

      Gone: +2 CHA, +2 DEX, -2 STR
      Gone: Halfling "traits".
      Added: +2 CON
      Added: Human feat (?)
      Added: Human skill ranks (?)

    Situation two:
Human druid dies, gets reincarnated, rolls a 38 for gnome.

Gone: +2 of his choice (if it was physical) /or/ -2 CON?
Gone: Nothing else? Not his feat or his extra skill ranks?
Added: -2 STR and +2 CON.
      Added: Gnome traits?

    Feedback please! :D

    Gameplay thread is a-going!

    Hey everyone!

I've been having so much fun with PBP in general, I thought I would do the world a favour and attempt to transform my GM powers to the paizo boards.
In doing this I will of course require the aid of several players who will want to undertake this journey with me.

Having just finished reading the Guide to PFS Play thoroughly, I haven't decided on the scenario yet, but this is what I'm going/looking for.

    • Adventure will be tier 1-5, preferably around level 2, coming from season 3 or 4;
    • Players will be asked to post a bare minimum of once per day, but encouraged to check/add 2-3 times. I like to keep things moving! :)
    • Standard PFS rules

I thought I'd give the players out there a head's up, I'll post which scenario later on today.

The horn has sounded three times... I wonder who will answer its call..
-- Last thoughts of an unknown corpse.

How would one begin? Register somewhere, send an application, etc etc?

Must have looked over the rules, coz I can't find it.

Since an eidolon is an outsider, what are the options available (in CRB and APG) to heal it?

° Destroying it > Next day full hp
    ° Rejuvenate eidolon?

How about "cure ___ wounds"? Does it work?
    Channel positive energy?
    Long term care?

When i have a weapon with "bane (x)" and i am facing an opponenr y or z do i feel my bane isn't working?

    How about an inquisitor's ability?

For example: human diguises himself as elf, inq uses bane (elf).

Are there any more dm's out there?
I feel I can take one more :D

I've been looking everywhere for an easy way to force an opponent (say cavalier / mounted fighter /..) of his horse/mount.

Are there options for it? I'm talking RAW, but am willing to listen to RAI aswell. :)

    Hey guys,

i'm having trouble locating the whereabouts for a new GM to try a PFS PBP. Could someone point me in the right direction?

    I found this:gm resources.

Can i have a character play in a PBP of the Society, and host one myself?

    .. Well, that's what I am looking for :)
No posts made, just sitting there because I made a booboo when constructing my pathfinder society character (unsuccesfully).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

    Hey guys,

I have been putting some more time into my campaigns (both kingmaker), and I thought it would be nice to share PDFs or Docs of things we have made, or adapted. The boards are very nice with their spoiler tags, but sometimes you want a print-out that looks nice, you can doodle on, and throw away afterwards.

Hereby, I present you with the following.

Tartuk's Diary, from Kingmaker book 1

Expanded Events Table, from Kingmaker book 2

A son of Mammoths, Kingmaker book 4

Not all of this is mine, and if someone has any objections I will remove it from my Gdocs.
Send me a private message if this should occur.
I only meant to help others :)

((I also made the charters from the books into something that looks better, but I am uncertain as to whether or not I can post these online. Anyone have any idea? I simply changed to font, addes some background.))

    Situation:

Boar, the friend of Druidboy 2000, has AC27.
The party encounters trolls, who can barely scratch our Boar.

Troll decides to grapple it, and succeeds.
Boar tries to break free, but fails.
Troll maintains (+5) and pins the boar.
Boar tries to break free, but fails.
    /pause/

Troll has the grappled condition, and takes -4DEX to his AC.
Boar has the grappled condition, taking a -4DEX.
Boar also has the pinned condition, being denied his DEX bonus and taking an [additional] -4 to AC.

Q1: Boar "loses" the -4DEX, and gets the "no DEX bonus". This could prove to be in his favour?
Q2: Boar is now pinned, and "can take verbal and mental actions". So basically at the mercy of his grappler?
Q3: Troll doesn't have to make an attack roll, since the "damage" is part of his maintaining?

    Outcome:
Troll can damage with one (?) natural (light) attack as long as he maintains (with a +5) the grapple against the little piggy.

Piggy has a -4 AC aaaand no DEX bonus against anyone standing free of the grapple?

Can I get some YESSES, peeps?

My group is currently at level 10 and have established quite a lovely 'kingdom'. Their ruler was a fighter with Gorum beliefs, so hze was never one to stay idle for long. With a ring of sustenance he did all his paperwork in the early hours, and trained with the militia during the day.
If there was something happening in the kingdom, he would face it himself, heroically!

However, the duke died, and I (dm) am not interested in putting his npc wife on the throne for long. It's their game and AP, and I want to keep it that way.
The problem now is that the only other pc's willing to take up the mantle already "warned" me that their character would no longer go on "adventuring errands", only diplomatic missions and greater battles (to inspire the men). However, this would effectively turn him into my NPC.

How do/can I stop this from happening? I would like an active baron/duke/king.
So far I have come up with the following:
    > The people will not respect a leader who can not follow "You have what you hold.". Thus, increasing unrest.
    > If they send out men to explore in their stead (and missing out on cool adventuring and juicy exp), they might not return. (Warr4 <> Fi9)
    > ...

    Your two cents, gents?

I've been pondering over the summer court/winter court thing and I'm trying to bundle the resources found on the forum.
There is soo much here, and I kinda have lost my way...

People that have done additions / changes /..., would you be so kind?
My group is currently at a certain tomb in book 4, but after this halfway point, I would like to start emphasizing more on the changes in nature/births/... I want them to feel the land is changing, and for this I require a bundle of information :)

    So far, I have:

    Seelie / Summer court
    Led by Oberonn and Titania
    > The happy fey, up for tricks and fun... Those wascaws!

    Unseelie / Winter court
    Led by Queen Mab
    > The evil fey, want to grab power...

    Wyldfae
    > Puck?

I would put the BBEG in the Winter Court, trying to influence these lands.. But why? Does she want to rival Queen Mab?

    Your two cents?

I failed my save, and now i'm confused.
Luckily i rolled a 22% so I can post here quickly...

Some spells say "level" and others say "caster level"...
So what does the rogue/wizard do? Can he cheat by taking spells that say level?
    H3LP?

Another marvelous question, I find myself in dubio about...

    Character: Ro3/Wi2
Abilities: Sneak attack +2D6, touch (attack) spells

As far as I know, the rogue can deliver a sneak attack through a touch spell.
He can also sneak-attack for non-lethal, with a sap...
He can also merciful spell for non-lethal, with a spell...

    Catch my drift?
Can my (player's) Ro/Wi use a non-lethal spell, and add his sneak-attack, while doing *only* non-lethal damage?

    Copied from PRD:

    Spoiler:

    Merciful Spell (Metamagic)
Your damaging spells subdue rather than kill.
Benefit: You can alter spells that inflict damage to inflict nonlethal damage instead. Spells that inflict damage of a particular type (such as fire) inflict nonlethal damage of that same type. A merciful spell does not use up a higher-level spell slot than the spell's actual level.

    Sneak attack
With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage (like a sap, whip, or an unarmed strike), a rogue can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual –4 penalty.

    General rule
Lead sheeting or magical protection blocks a scrying spell, and you sense that the spell is blocked.

    Scrying
What does, apart from putting yourself in a constant leadsheeted house, help against scrying? I have a powerful wizard who knows his sister is being scryed on daily, but can't seem to do anything against it?

**F (a silver mirror worth 1,000 gp) <- tis does not get destroyed, so as soon as she has one, it's scry-time..

Nondetection: 50gp per day sounds a bit harsh.

Detect scrying would let me know, but within 40ft.. Means i have to eat/sleep/... with my sister, and I still can't do anything about it.

Two questions that I could use your feedback on.

    Question 1:
This table is a guideline for wealth by level for the player characters..

    Problem 1:
Old_char has ammassed gold and items, but some were (or are now) useless, and some items have been used.
    New_char can optimize..

    Problem 2:
Old_char has spend money (Kingmaker) to upgrade his domain and help his people. He is therefor below the curve.
New_char is 'exactly' on the curve...

    Question 2:
New_wizard wants spells. There is a price but at level 9 he can basically by every spell from the BRB and APG, and hardly feel it..
How do other GM's deal with that? Roll the dice (% or amount of), or...

*puts piggybank on table, waiting for two cents*

Hey guys, I got another one for you...

I have a player who is a rogue3/witch1 and who likes to grapple people.
Now we were looking at keeping a touch spell at the ready, making a touch attack and succeeding at a grapple.

    Quote 1: wrote:
If you touch anything or anyone while holding a charge, even unintentionally, the spell discharges.
    Quote 2: wrote:
Alternatively, you may make a normal unarmed attack (or an attack with a natural weapon) while holding a charge.
    Quote 3: wrote:
...to touch an opponent, you must succeed on an attack roll.
    Quote 4: wrote:
As a standard action, you can attempt to grapple a foe...

    _Processing_

So, what if the roguewitch cast a touchspel in round one, and in round two moves closer to the bandit.. He then wants to grapple the bandit. Situation A:
He succeeds at grappling the bandit.
    >>> Does the spell automatically discharge since the "touched anyone while holding a charge"?

    Situation B:
He fails the grapple. Does the spell linger?
Because it says nowhere that a failure to touch makes the spell dissappear, right?

I'm using the piggybank of dooom to ask for your two cents...
Will save to deny it? ;)

    -----
    Link:
    http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/combat.html#holding-the-charge

Improved Empathic Link (Su): The beast master gains an empathic link with all of his animal companions. This functions like an empathic link with a familiar, except the ranger can also see through a companion's eyes as a swift action, maintaining this connection as long as he likes (as long as the companion is within 1 mile) and ending it as a free action. The ranger can only see through the eyes of one companion at a time, and is blinded while maintaining this connection. This replaces the 6th-level combat style feat.
    ---

Does this mean he can have a creature with darkvision (owl for example) and walk around like he pwnz the place?
Or is it used for "scouting"?

In Pathfinder's "War of the River Kings" you can see the fourth poem of Gorum's Gorumskagat.. (p 69)
Does anyone know where to find the others?
I've been searching, but nothing so far.. Damn my google-fu!

    For people wondering:

"The clash of sword on shield is my song,
I am your armor, your blade.
Strike at your foes and I guide your hand.
For I thirst only for batle."

    Some question about it:

    PRD wrote:
""You may move into a tree up to one time per caster level (passing from one tree to another counts only as moving into one tree). The spell lasts until the duration expires or you exit a tree. Each transport is a full-round action.""

I need a few ayes/nayes from you lot:

If a 9th level druid casts this...
    (A) She can move into one tree, and then jump 8 times as a full-round action, and in tree number 8 she will be "forced" to exit?
    (B) She can spend 0.56 miles per full-round action, thus going (up to) 4.48 miles in 48 seconds, right?
    (C) Can she see out of the tree? Can she stick her head out while the rest remains inside?

(D)How many miles across is a square in Kingmaker again? I've lost the correct page..

    Thanks mateys :)

How long does it take to travel a hex in Kingmaker? I've been DM'ing for almost two years now, but currently I'm a bit puzzled by reading the speed of the armies.

I think i have always used the speed of "walking", but this:
    100 warriors (3) kan traverse 2 hexes?

    Questions for fellow DM's:
    --------------------------

How long would it take 4 humans to walk from Oleg's to Tatzlford?
How long would it take if they had horses?
How long does it take to explore a hex?

Without wanting to rant about a certain player and his/her lack of looking up his/her abilities / spells/ etc. (which frustrates me immensely as a DM)...
    Oops, sorry.. /endrant

    Situation:
    Druid uses wildshape.
Birddruid has feat to cast spells while flying.
Birddruid uses full-round action to cast a spell (Lightning thingamajig).

Does bird druid fall out of the sky?

    Explore exp:

I have, as DM, ruled at the beginning that the "100 exp for every square they explore" adds up to "25 exp per player". Was this part of the plan, or should it have been "100 exp per player"? How did my fellow awesome DM's do it?
Doubting, because when they are beginning Blood for Blood it says they should be 10th level, and currently they are just short of 9.

    Spoiler:
They have explored Greenbelt 100%, and Nomen Heights about 40%

Should I just start book 4?
I have waited 3 or 4 years (ingame) since start of book 3.

    Magic Item sellings #1:

My party is currently at 7 minor and 2 medium items generated per month. How many of these items can they attempt to sell? They have three cities, in total 4 districts. So far I said they could sell 1, so they usually choose the medium ones.

    Spoiler:
Now that they have received Varnhold their consumption is suddenly a lot higher, and where they never needed the boost before, now

I'm beginning to doubt whether selling more for 8 BP each is better, but not gamebreaking. Feedback plox?

    Magic Item sellings #2:

    Medium item 1: 275 gp
    Medium item 2: 34 000 gp..
Both give 8 BP when sold against a DC of 35?

    Thanks guys!

Couple questions that always make me doubt my GM'ing.

If grappled, can a creature cast any spells?
What is required? Concentration? What is the DC? Are there any modifiers?

    Also: Are these flowcharts up-to-date/correct?
    http://paizo.com/forums/dmtz43c0?New-grapple-flowcharts#43

    Hey guys,

my players really dig the whole "Build your own kingdom", and have even worked out different kinds of tournaments to coincide with the Kingdom Phase.

Now, so far I have just been rolling D20's to figure out who "won" and came in second, third, etc. However, one of the new character is a prize fighter, and I would like it for him to have more options than "roll highest".

What kind of ideas do you guys have?
I was thinking something of taking AC + Attack bonus into consideration, but many of the other fighters would probably have something similar.
I also don't want this to take too much time (outgame: don't want to build 10 NPC's, ingame: the other players enjoy seeing who wins but can't have it take an entire hour).

    /opens piggy
    Your two cents, please!

    Hey guys,

just looking for some feedback. How long would you (as DM) say it takes to light a fire and approx 2 torches. I ruled it at 3 rounds (in combat).
Is this a bit too harsh, or too lenient?

Also: What damage would you say a flaming torch does when swung?
I figured -4 to attack (improvised), D3 from wood and D6 from fire?

Players rescued the eggs, and druid is keen on making sure they hatch..

Some players nerdgasm about armies riding on Rocs into battle, etc etc.

Your two cents, so I can compare them with my ideas and notes?

    Dear diary,

today I am yet again faced with a question of a player who wants a +2 flaming longsword. However will I be able to determine the price?

Anyway, what is the correct calculation?

    Longsword = 15 gp
    Masterwork = 300 gp
    +1 Bonus = 2 000 gp
    +2 Bonus = 8 000 gp
    +3 Bonus = 18 000 gp
    Flaming = +1 bonus

I think we can all agree on the longsword + masterwork, so base price is 315 gp
    Then...
    ...
    ...
    Option A:
    MW Longsword 315 gp
    +2 Bonus = 8000 gp
    Flaming = 2000 gp
    ---------------->>> 10 315 gp

    Option B:
    MW Longsword 315 gp
    +2 Bonus AND +1 (Flaming) = +3 Bonus = 18 000 gp
    ---------------->>> 18 315 gp

    FLAME ON!!
But please tell me it option B.. ^^

Sorry to bother everyone, but I am figuring out the Wild Shape ability of my groups' druids.

So, as far as I can figure out from reading book/prd en previous topics...

    Sure:
    * Standard action, no provoke. Which means a if you change into a bird you can still fly away (with provoking)
    * One hour per level, not 1 min/level as opposed to spell

    ---

    Doubtful:
    * Does the druid cast? Blink? Gesture? Cough? Or can it be done 100% silently?

    ---

    Difficult:
Let's say I have a druid with Wooden Armor (+3 ac) and Dex 16 (+3).
    His AC is 10+3+3 = 16.

What exactly happens when the druid changes shape to
    (A) a small dog
=> According to spell: +2 DEX and +1 Natural armor, and gains scent & lowlight
=> According to magic: Lose armor bonus

    So... ... ... AC 16 gets a -3 (losing armor) and a +1 (natural) and a +1 (improved dex) => AC 15
=> Question: Does the druid get +1 ATK/AC because it changed size from medium to small?
=> Q: If the druid did not have Weapon Finesse, it still uses STR for ATK bonus right?

    ---

    (B) a medium boar
=> According to spell: +2 STR and +2 Natural armor, and gains scent & lowlight
=> According to magic: Lose armor bonus

    So... ... ... AC 16 gets a -3 (losing armor), and a +2 (natural) => AC 15

    ---

What else does the druid get?
    Is there something I'm missing?
Or does the druid just open the monster manual, and enchance this creature via spell?
