As a first post, can everyone tell me where they are from, how much experience they have had with roleplay / play-by-post /Pathfinder Society?

Silver Crusade

Male Human Paladin 2 | AC 14 T 11 FF 13 | HP 20/20 | F +7 R +3 W +6 | Init +1, Perc +1 | Smite Evil 1/1 | LoH 3/3

I'm on the East coast of the US (Connecticut) and have been playing roleplaying games on and off for 25 years or so. Started up with Pathfinder perhaps a year or two ago but haven't played to extensively. As for PFS I'm a newbie only being involved in one other run (which you may be familiar with :).

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

Welcome Horatius Lartius!

I'll be PMing your personal quest in a few minutes.
Rolling the dice (for the personals) will happen in the "Recruitment" thread, as this is now useless, okay?

Glad to have you aboard!

Silver Crusade

Male Aasimar Cleric 1 | AC 19 T 12 FF 17 | HP 6/8 | F +2 R +2 W +5 | Init + 2 Perc + 5 | CMB +2 CMD +14

Are my spoilers to your liking oh mighty and honorable GM?

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

Actually, those spoilers are a bit offsetting, by having multiple.
I would prefer if you did it the same way as Horatius, *or* if it's for your own convenience, just one big spoiler.

Yukie, reporting in. My profile is still a work-in-progress copy-pasted from my notes, but I'll be editing it for readability as soon as I've had some sleep.

I can answer the opening question, though:
I'm from Quebec, a native french speaker, though functionally bilingual. Pathfinder got me back into the game exactly one year ago, after a break from 3.5 of nearly a decade.

I've (re-)learned the game through a series of somewhat houseruled campaigns, though I've been hitting the books and consulting some rule-savvy friends to get closer to the platonic ideal of Pathfinder's rules. I've participated in a few local PFS games with two currently second-level characters, and GMed a handful more. This character is built on GM credit, and this will in fact be her first actual mission.

This is my second time playing a PFS scenario in PBP format, the first one being with my character Daimonji, whom Tiasar has rubbed shoulders with already. I think I've gotten the general idea down, though don't hesitate to gently prod me if I get something wrong.

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

No worries about the prodding, I like my rules crisp and clean, so I'll give *and ask* feedback on anything.

I ask my players to look up their own rules sometimes, when they are trying to do something, and link it in their text.

E.g. "I want to gather knowlegde by wandering in town and seeking a library. This would grant me the possibility to use my Knowledge (History) untrained, and accoring to this rule, it should take me 1d4 ⇒ 2 hours longer."

Love this /\
I'm learning, you're learning, and it helps the game trememdously :)

About the French: I'm from Belgium, so I speak Dutch (mothertongue), French (official second language), German (official third language, optional) and English (I'm a teacher of English as a secondary language).

Lantern Lodge

Female Human Wildblooded Sorceress 2 / AC 13, touch 12, flat 11 / HP 14 / Fort 2, Ref 2, Will 3 / CMD 11 / Percep 0 (+2 next to AC)

Still working on my profile, as I realized that I made some miscalculations while double-checking. Yukie's own profile is mostly done, with format based on Tamarie's. I added a few links for material from softcover books (Animal Archive and Dragon Empires Primer), and now the only thing left is the animal companion. Edit: All right, I think I'm good to go!

Speaking of which, how do you plan to handle things for my AC's initiative and actions in combat in so forth?

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

I'll assume the Companion is next to you at all times, like a faithful dog.
Usually I do a "your guys, my guys" in combat, since it makes it easier in PBP, so you can assume you'll be doing it at the same time.
If you want, but this is a "house rule of fist", you can simply roll your initiative and your animals, and take the lowest (if you always want to act in the same round).
If it's surprise rounds, this won't matter ofc!

Your opinion?

Lantern Lodge

Female Human Wildblooded Sorceress 2 / AC 13, touch 12, flat 11 / HP 14 / Fort 2, Ref 2, Will 3 / CMD 11 / Percep 0 (+2 next to AC)

I guess it would make sense for my tiger to delay ("awaiting orders") for my turn, but if I get higher initiative I see no sense in waiting, since as I understand I can Handle Animal and it'll act in its own round. Would that work?

Otherwise, sounds good to me.

Everyone received their private mission well ?

DM, this is Jory's lizard friend.
I suggest you look at the campaign tab in his Age of Worms campaign to see a great way to handle initiative and maps.

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

Looks really nice! I'm planning on using Google Pictures, but never thought about adding the things on the left and right.
+3 internest for you! :)

And Jory, yes, there will be a ("normal") cleric travelling with us ;)

Quote:
Any chance I can spend some time/money to try and pick up the 'endure elements' spell?

According to pages 24-25 of the PFS Guide:

Always Available Items
You may always purchase the following items or equipment so long as you’re in an appropriately sized settlement (see above).
...
  • Scrolls of 0- or 1st-level spells at caster level 1 (50 gp or less)

This seems to say you can purchase a scroll of "Endure elements", which is a 1st level wizard spell (costing 50 gp).
It is my understanding from HERE that you can then attempt to copy it.

Spells Copied from Another's Spellbook or a Scroll:

A wizard can also add a spell to his book whenever he encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard's spellbook. No matter what the spell's source, the wizard must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings). Next, he must spend 1 hour studying the spell. At the end of the hour, he must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell's level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from his specialty school. If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into his spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment.

If the check fails, the wizard cannot understand or copy the spell. He cannot attempt to learn or copy that spell again until one week has passed. If the spell was from a scroll, a failed Spellcraft check does not cause the spell to vanish.

In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to half the cost to write the spell into a spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). Rare and unique spells might cost significantly more.

I assume it will be 50 gp for the scroll, and then 10 gp for writing it in your book, and I'll require a DC 16 spellcraft check.

Seems fair, or am I missing something?

Silver Crusade

Male Human Paladin 2 | AC 14 T 11 FF 13 | HP 20/20 | F +7 R +3 W +6 | Init +1, Perc +1 | Smite Evil 1/1 | LoH 3/3

I might be missing a multiplier but the base cost for the scroll should be 25gp rather than 50gp (lvl 1 potions are 50g) Scroll Costs As for the rest I think you're spot on.

The Exchange

I can afford that, and I think it would invaluable on this trip. I can't cast it on everybody (or really even half the party) unless you want me to be nothing but a pitiful archer with cantrips, but I'll save one for that one person who rolls crappy on their save

Am I allowed to take 10 on the spellcraft? If so, im good

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

Whoops, made a boo-boo!
Also: Great thinking Tiasar, geart to have a team-player :)

I'm not sure about taking ten, so roll to be certain. There is a chance of failure, so I'm not exactly sure. But I know SOMEONE here is an expert on that. Cue "Olik", please :)

((You can roll it, if it's worse than 16 we can see if you could take ten?))

Silver Crusade

Male Human Paladin 2 | AC 14 T 11 FF 13 | HP 20/20 | F +7 R +3 W +6 | Init +1, Perc +1 | Smite Evil 1/1 | LoH 3/3

Horatius seems to pause unnaturally in the midsts of what he was doing. His eyes flutter shut and when they open again they seem a different color. The somewhat disembodied voice the issues forth seems to have an Ulfen accent....

T10 on the spellcraft to write the spell should be fine. I double checked the Spellcraft skill as well as the section about writing a spell and neither exclude it (T20 wouldn't be allowed as there is a penalty for failure).

Looking into this did point out the need to actually decipher the scroll prior to using it (either to cast or write from). This is a DC20+spell level check or can be done via Read Magic which negates the need for the check. In any case using either method permanently deciphers that scroll for you. Considering Read Magic (if you have it) is unlimited it could probably be safely assumed that any purchased scroll is deciphered just after buying it. I imagine that rule is there for people without RM and/or for scrolls found during combat or where time is critical.

Hope that helps.

As the last word passes his lips Horatius blink and continues his prior actions as if nothing had happened. Noticing the queer looks he's receiving from the others gathered around he asks :

What?

The Exchange

lmfao. nice horatius.

okay, a little gold and time and i have that spell all ready to go!

The map // Initiative >> Theor & Thaurux > Yeti > Rest

The oddly shaped creature named DM looks up at the sky, and mutters a word of gratitude..

Tiasar, subtract the gold and T10, and you should be good to go.

@ EVERYONE:
No more questions for the man, say "ONWARD!" here and I'll continue the story.

Furs (12 GP, 5 lbs, APG, +2 Fort saves vs cold weather)
Snowshoes (5 GP, 4 lbs, APG, Helps with movement in snow)

Halorn will get the outfit, snowshoes and some minor stuff. He'll buy and expense enough food and water for the trip. Will add to character sheet when I get home.

Just a guess but I bet Hal has "Onward" tattooed on his forehead :)

Added cold weather cloths and snowshoes...bumped me to medium encumbrance. Now it's time for love of light encumbrance to battle my love of having rope...:(

I suppose with dwarves in the party our land speed is 20 anyway...can always drop the pack in oombat...hummmm

Anyway ONWARD!!! (again :)

Oh, thanks for the FYI, Hal! I'll be buying myself one of each of these. I doubt I'll be running into my encumberance limit, but if so I'll do some shuffling around with my tiger's saddlebags. If someone has something they want to bring but not carry on their person, I'll see if she particularly minds pack-mule duty...

I also just remembered that I had the boon from We Be Goblins! I'll add it to my profile shortly (along with the relevant bonuses), since it seems it could very well come in handy, given the prisoners.

Onward!

It looks like I'll have to rescind my offer of letting Aiko carry things. I'm packing some carnivore feed for the trip, and large slabs of meat, it turns out, are surprisingly heavy!

I suppose she could try to hunt, but I'd rather we not chance travelling with a starving tiger, best friend or not.

Also: parent teacher thing tonight, so changes are slim I can post tonight. But be sure to talk among yourselves :)

Since I'm hitting level 2 ill pick up a fire spell. It'll be good for me to have on anyways
