Well! I'm honestly having a hard time finding any story feats that work for Guillame, but I'm very pleased with Elephant in the Room being added, because I was so feat-starved on this build that I hadn't had a chance to take Precise Shot.

It sounds like we're opening the door by the statue.

Ellena, in the future, I believe Aelith gets an automatic check to find traps just by being near them, so you don't have to worry about anyone declaring that they search for traps.

Thanks for your concern. Saturday and Sunday were the worst of it, with me pretty much stuck in bed the whole time, but it's only taken a few days for me to start feeling like myself again, and I was well taken care of.

Today I feel mostly alright, with remaining symptoms being mild and likely to fade soon. I've had all my antibiotics, and I'm still keeping up with my fluid intake as best as possible, but I'd say I'm 90% of the way through it now.

The weirdest thing, though, is you'll never guess what my first symptom was. It was hiccups, of all things. I obviously didn't think much of that at first, but after hours of hiccups on Thursday and waking up Friday with very noticeable flu symptoms and the hiccups not having gone away, I had to at least do a Google search, and that's how I found out that hiccups are a very rare symptom of COVID. I decided to go to the hospital because breathing was a little painful, which is where I got the test and official confirmation.

Naturally, I'm looking forward to leaving this all in the past!

Hi! I pretty much instantly started brainstorming ideas when Anarya's player told me we were under consideration to join the campaign she's been raving about for so long. I'm looking into an archmage build that combines vital strike with spell cartridges, with the idea being that the character has some kind of legendary Riftwarden gun.

N Male Versatile Human Magus 1 | HP 19/19 | AC 18 | Fort +7 Ref +4 Will +5 | Perception +3

Standing a head and shoulders above most of the crowd, but still humbled by the gigantic construct nearby, a powerfully built young man stares off into the distance. He pays no heed at all to the warm welcome being offered.

He's armed and armored, with a solid piece of plate adorning his chest, and a well-used sword strapped to his back that looks big enough to cleave through two men in one swing. At first glance, and likely every glance after that, he would seem wildly out of place here... save, that is, for the fact that much of the rest of the crowd seem even stranger for their own reasons.

Finally, around his right shin, a tiny green viper clings on for dear life. Every few steps, the warrior stops and shakes his leg to try and dislodge it, to no avail.

I've had this guy ready for a while now, so it shouldn't be too hard to turn his backstory into this ten minute thing.

10-Minute Backstory:

Step 1: Five Facts
* Kijani is a hunter from a village called the Twice-Carved Bough, who has no interest in the arcane.
* He is pestered regularly by a spirit in the form of a talking snake that tells him magical secrets. He considers it a nuisance, not a familiar.
* The elders of his village see this as a sign that he is destined to be a great wizard, and his swift (if reluctant) mastery of basic spells makes that look plausible.
* Between the revered elders, his parents, and his fellow hunters all pressuring him to accept the sponsorship to the Magaambya, he couldn't possibly refuse.
* Still, that doesn't mean he intends to actually study...

Step 2: Two Goals
* For Kijani to gain an appreciation for magic and the tradition of the Magic Warriors.
* For him to develop a connection with his familiar rather than seeing it as something to be rid of.

Step 3: Two Secrets

* Despite being a very good hunter, and potentially a prodigy in magic, Kijani hates to be praised. He won't let it show, and will reluctantly accept compliments, but he loses respect for people who give them.
* His familiar was actually summoned by one of the elders of his village, who saw he was a bright boy and thought he might have potential. The spirit took the form of a viper because that's what resonated with Kijani's soul.

Step 4: Three People

* Elder Kiango, leader of the village of the Twice-Carved Bough. An old druid who once graduated from the Magaambya himself, and saw potential in Kijani that he'd have squandered if left to his own devices.
* Jirani, fellow hunter and childhood friend. He is jealous of Kijani's new status as the village golden boy, and determined to become a better hunter than Kijani ever was while he's absent.
* Kijani's familiar, interchangeably called Snake or Nuisance. An annoyingly persistent snake who insists he focus on his studies when he'd rather be doing anything else.

Step 5: Three Memories
* The first time he ever picked up a bow. He was six years old, and it took him hours to actually fire an arrow, and it left a chip in the outside wall of his family home that was never fixed.
* The first animal he killed, some kind of large rodent or something. It was long enough ago that he doesn't recall exactly what it was, but he remembers the feeling of slicing it in half with one decisive swing of his old sword (much smaller than his current one) like it was yesterday.
* The night his familiar first appeared. It climbed into his bed while he was sleeping and began whispering into his ear, influencing his dreams. The next morning, it slithered away before he could find and kill it. It took time for it to grow bold enough to speak to him during the day, by which time the elders had already forbade him from killing it.

One Flaw

Kijani doesn't believe in himself, and he just plain isn't motivated to succeed. Any potential he has is completely wasted.

One Quirk

Kijani would sooner clam up and ignore someone than continue with an uncomfortable conversation.

Well, this was less of a ten-minute thing and more of a "couple hours on and off while distracted by other stuff" thing, but here it is.

As for samples of previous PbP, well, I'm sad to say I don't have many. I've only gotten into a few PbPs before, and they've all died before their time, not to mention not being recent at all. Still, I'll link a few old threads that I was in, for what they're worth.

Part the First
Let it never be said that I do not deserve my curse. I am a thief and a glutton, and this is my punishment. Still, I am an industrious man, and I will not be driven to despair. As of 3rd Desnus, I have been discharged from my duties in the service of the temple of Abadar, by which I have repaid my debt of one year and a day's labor for my crime of blasphemous robbery. Despite my work in service to the pious, my greed has only consumed me further. I look upon the baubles and trinkets of lords and ladies and feel compelled to have them, to have everything. When I am not adorned in the most luxurious of silk and pearls, I feel sick and naked. I know that this feeling is the punishment for my crime. Where once I coveted the wealth of the church, now I covet all I see, and it has made me a wretch. My family have disowned me, and I can find no honest work. I can see no path but this.

Part the Second
The trial was a trivial matter. In my service to the temple, I learned a small number of spells in the tradition of the clergy, though it baffles me that a wretch like myself could be seen as pious enough to cast them. Still, using this magic, I am able to transform old and rotten victuals into a more suitable state. I thus traded a few barrels' worth of transfigured pig's slop to a disreputable company of chefs who had been hired at some unfortunate gala or another, in exchange for a smattering of coins and a silver ring one of them claimed to be a family heirloom; though of whose family, neither he nor I could say. At the market, I listened closely to the desires in the hearts of the masses, and found a young man, desperate to find a ring in his price range with which to propose to his beloved. I took him for all he had, and between the boy's savings and the coin I had taken from the chefs, I returned to the farmer from whom I had purchased the barrels of slop and bought back the coin for many times its worth.

Here is a backstory for an Intrigue Oracle with the Covetous curse! I don't have a name for him yet, but I'm working on a character sheet.

The Sodden Lands wouldn't work. It wouldn't be special that it's in a swamp if everything is a swamp. The Mana Wastes are interesting, but all the surrounding settlements are so full of powerful wizards, that a few bands of goblins wouldn't matter much. I'd say either Qadira or one of the northern Garundi nations.

Also, can I just say I'm amazed by the response to Albarath? I thought it was a cool idea when I came up with it, but I'm getting a lot more support for him than I could have expected!

Albarath
The Spire Upon The Marsh

Story:

For as long as the goblins of the Grubstomp tribe can remember, they have lived in the shadow of a great stone tower, supported by a ring of arches like the legs of a spider. It was built, originally, by a reclusive wizard, who chose the land to place his tower for its inhospitable nature. Though the land was blighted and dead for miles around, the wizard used his magic to conjure a storm each month, slowly creating a beautiful oasis that drew the ancestors of the Grubstomp tribe to settle there.

In time, however, the rains stopped, for the wizard was no longer alive to conjure them, and the goblins grew desperate. They had never seen the wizard, and thought that the rains must be brought by the tower itself. Fearing they had angered such a powerful being, they began to pray to the shrine, and offer tribute, begging for the rains to return.

But, for all their praying, the spire gave them nothing. Nothing, until they gave it blood.

The day its followers gave it its first sacrifice, something dark awoke within the very stone of the tower. Perhaps the very essence of the thing recalled the magic that had once been worked within it, or perhaps it was simply the power of belief, but from then on, the tower itself continued its master's work, and conjured the rains again. Not having the sensibilities of a wizard, it often called forth too much, and swept the goblins away in a flood. Still, they continued to sacrifice to it, and in time, the oasis became a flooded marsh.

The goblins, of course, didn't mind living in a swamp. In fact, it was the perfect climate to raise their foul livestock and grow their mushroom crops. In time, the Grubstomp tribe flourished, and the tower gained more worship and sacrifice than ever before. It adopted a name, Albarath, and became ambitious.

As much as the goblins adored him, Albarath was still a wizard's tower, and desired dominion over magic. At first, he began to teach his goblin followers the ways of the arcane, but they were lacking. Instead, he began to send his minions to abduct the children of more intelligent races, to give him more competent students. His favored minions lived within his walls, learning as he whispered to their minds.

As his students learned, Albarath sought greater knowledge, and thus had his goblin minions raid faraway towns and cities for tomes and scrolls of arcane knowledge, so that he might hold them within himself. Thus far, no one knows just why these raids are happening, but many an adventurer has set out into the wastes, and not one has set foot upon the marsh and lived to tell the tale.

Will the heroes of our tale brave the unforgiving wastelands to stop the Grubstomp raids? Can they defeat the sinister cabal of wizards from within the great spire? And, when the thing lifts itself out of the marsh by its stone legs, how will our heroes fare against such a terrifying foe?

So there we have it. I'm not 100% sure where in Golarion this should be, but the geography of the region only leaves a few options, really. Mechanically, like I mentioned in an earlier post, Albarath is an Idol, and gains power by having his followers sacrifice to him. He is also a colossal animated object, giving him a base CR of 11. However, he's also an intelligent construct with full feat progression and some limited spellcasting ability, which will probably give him a boost. I've also been considering giving him a few mythic ranks, but I'm not entirely sure if I'll go that route or not.

What do you think?

It's time to take the fight to the landlubbers! Skull & Shackles is already an adventure on the high seas, but this time around, our party is rising up from under the seas. Your group of scoundrels and scalawags have decided to rise up and take a ship for yourselves, and damn any surface-dwellers who get in your way. Here's how it will work.

Races: AMPHIBIOUS RACES ONLY! This includes Merfolk, Aquatic Elves, Gillmen, Skinwalkers of the shark variety, and Undines. Undines will be given the Amphibious alternate racial trait for free, and do not have to give up their spell-like ability to get it. If you figure out another race that can be amphibious, let me know, and I'll tell you if it's okay.
Classes: Any Paizo official, plus a FREE variant multiclass, meaning you do not have to sacrifice any feats for it.
Alignment: Evil is welcome! Good, on the other hand, might want to step back for this one.
Starting Level: We will be starting at level 5.
Point Buy: 25 Point Buy. Limited race options is a bit painful on the ability score front, so I think 25 PB is more fair.
Hit Points: Max first level, then average.
Skills: No background skills this time, sorry!
Traits: Don't bother with the campaign traits. Two traits, plus a third trait if you choose to take an appropriate drawback. I reserve the rights to reject certain drawbacks, but I will probably be lenient.
Money: 10,000 gold. This is slightly below WBL, but to compensate, the group as a whole will be receiving a very nice homebrew item for free. Or at a discount, at least.

Very Nice Item:

The Chime of Besmara
Aura Faint Necromancy; CL 5th Weight 1 lb; Price 5,400 gp

This simple brass chime is emblazoned with the skull and crossbones, the holy symbol of the goddess of piracy. Once per day, under the light of the moon and while on a seaworthy vessel, the chime can be used by striking it nine times (once for each of the seas of Golarion) at the appropriate parts of a specific prayer to Besmara. When used in this way, any corpses aboard the same ship as the chime's holder rise, as the spell skeleton crew, save that the holder does not need to touch the corpses. The normal maximum number of skeletons raised applies (in this case ten, or twenty if used in the area of a desecration spell), and each one has a Profession (Sailor) modifier of +6. If there are more corpses aboard the vessel than can be raised, the chime affects the closest ones first.

I will most likely be accepting five or six crew members, and we will decide on roles, including captain, before beginning. As you may have guessed, we will be skipping (almost) all of book one and beginning with a slightly tweaked battle for the Man's Promise. This is my first time running a PbP, but not my first time GMing, and I'll try to keep things challenging.

Edit: Some friends of mine have been pre-accepted, which brings us down to 2-3 new spots. Expect them to post soon with their characters.

Alright, Newbonomicon here again, and I've finished my character!

Character sheet, on Myth-Weavers

Backstory:
Quisli Japewhim had never been an excellent judge of character. Like many gnomes, her curiosity often got the better of her, and her jovial nature let her get along with just about any group of people. In her youth, she got along with her family, who taught her the ways of the fey. When she left home, she got along with the dwarves of the Mindspin Mountains, especially her friends in the Coppermint family. More recently, though, she found herself getting along with the notorious Sczarni.

As unsavory as they may have been, though, Quisli learned quite a bit from her criminal friends. She learned all about life in the big city, and how to get around the law, as well as all sorts of helpful tips you can only get in the seedy underbellies of Kaer Maga and Magnimar.

By the time she came to Sandpoint, Quisli had nearly forgotten her druidic roots. Will she return to the ways of the fey, or is she so lost in criminal life that she can never return? Only time will tell.

If you'd like me to elaborate on anything, feel free to ask.

My submission is ready! I've built Agana Besken, a native to Swallowfeld who discovered, to her horror, that she had a knack for making the blood jump out of people's bodies.

Crunch

Background:
The little Besken girl, Agana, was always a dainty one. She would spend hours just sitting by the side of the river, watching the wheel at the mill turn. What the other folks in Swallowfeld didn't know was that the more she watched that river, the more she could feel it flowing, as if it were an extension of her. Perhaps she was born with the gift, or perhaps anyone could have learned if they spent as much time watching the river as Agana did. The only thing certain is that, after years of watching the river go by, the little Besken girl could tell the river where to go.

At first, she kept it a secret. She practiced by moving the mill just a bit harder than it would normally go, and eventually, she was ready to show someone. She brought her younger cousin to the river one day, and began to show off her talents, but in her excitement, she turned to see her cousin's expression... and ripped the blood from her body. At the tender age of fourteen, Agana watched her cousin bleed to death, and vowed to never use her powers again.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Faye Forester, at the age of 14, was getting too old for fairy tales. Until the day she fell into one herself. She followed the sound of children laughing deep into the woods behind her house, and came across a magical locket in a knothole in the oldest tree in the forest.

When she put it on, she found that it gave her the power to become the tiny, yet powerful form of Pixie! Less than a foot high, Pixie boasts a beautiful pair of wings, and the ability to blast foes with "pixie dust"!

Four years later, Faye and the locket have been inseparable. Rumors abound at her high school of fairies playing tricks on students, but no one has ever suspected Faye. Young, naive, and having never used her powers for anything more than juvenile pranks, does Pixie have what it takes to become... a hero?

Build Concept:

Basically, I'm imagining Pixie as having all her powers grouped together with the common limitation that she loses them without the locket worn around her neck. Her main powers will be three or four ranks of Shrinking, with the No Growth Momentum limitation (because I don't intend for her to un-shrink in combat), and Flight, with Restrainable due to her wings. The wings should only exist when shrunk, so you can bundle them and the shrinking into a Multiform.

I would imagine the Pixie Dust as some sort of Energy Blast, possibly Stun Only, but the details are of course up to you. I also envision Pixie as having a very high DCV, making her able to buzz around an enemy's face to distract them without being hit. The shrinking will help this, of course.

For END purposes, I would think that either you could just set the flight and shrinking to only cost END when first activated, or you could make the locket itself function as an Endurance Reserve.

For a possible unique Disadvantage, you could make it so that, while in her Pixie form, or even while wearing the locket at all, she has certain classical fairy weaknesses, such as a Susceptibility to silver or iron, or a Psychological Limitation against lying.
