Greetings adventurers!

After browsing through all the wacky PbP guides over in General Discussion (which I'd heartily recommend to those who haven't), I've arrived here to kick off my first ever game! I have a moderate amount of real life experience (I've at least followed Pathfinder development since release) but PbP is a relatively new frontier for me.

I'm looking for 4 active posters who can commit to posting at least thrice a day (the more the merrier, weekends preferred but optional) and are willing to use Roll20 for mapping, during the span of just a single adventure. Given my credentials, I'm not demanding any sort of experience as long as you're up for some fun and engaging roleplaying. If all goes well and we've had a good time, I'll happily extend this game into a larger mini-campaign in the Lonely Coast, but neither you nor I are bound by that promise.

The adventure in question is Raging Swan's highly acclaimed Retribution, a thrillingly chilling (or was it chillingly thrilling?) tale of revenge set in a treacherously isolated priory. Check out some of the reviews below!

Praise for Retribution:
"A fantasy roleplaying campaign can always use spooky, atmospheric low-level adventures, and RETRIBUTION is a solid, useful foray. It's "old school" in the best sense of that term: the adventure, its setting, its characters, and its new elements have all been carefully and lovingly detailed and thought through. The result is truly ready-to-use, and its elements lend themselves to easy re-use in an ongoing campaign. Recommended."
—Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms

"Retribution is a wintry scenario that makes full use of the weather to create a claustrophobic and gritty introduction. This is followed by an excellent middle, with something for every party as it is full of investigation, roleplaying, and combat, before building to a worthy climax. Overall, it is an excellent scenario that can be slotted into any campaign and, with very little work, any roleplaying system."
—Dave McAlister of UK Role Players

“A gripping gothic yarn. Retribution is one part classic pulp, one part The Name of the Rose, and all around a compelling narrative with exciting encounters and absorbing NPCs. It will no doubt leave a lasting impression on every adventurer who dares winter on the Lonely Coast.”
—Stephen Radney-MacFarland

Character Creation
Starting level – 1st
Starting wealth – Average starting wealth for your class.
Ability scores – 20 point buy.
Hit points – Maximized HP at 1st level.
Alignment restrictions – Non-evil characters only. You may, however, ignore those pesky alignment restrictions on classes.
Traits – Two traits, but nothing Golarion or campaign specific.
Legal sources – Anything Paizo is open game, but again I prefer (but don't require) you steer clear of Golarion specific things.
Race restrictions – Core races automatically allowed, anything else will require some persuasion on your part.
Backgrounds - No requirements other than to get me (and your fellow adventurers) excited! No need for an alias yet either - feel free to post your spoilered sheets/background directly.

Setting Information
The furthest flung outpost of a mighty kingdom, turbulent waters and forbidding, trackless forests separate the folk of the Lonely Coast from the gaudy lights of civilization. Pirates and slavers ply the southern storm-tossed waters while goblins and other foul things creep through the gloom of the Tangled Wood that seemingly chokes the forgotten holds and sacred places of the Old People. Deep within the forest, a narrow, rock-choked defile piled deep with shadow cuts through a nameless range of rugged, tree-shrouded hills birthing dark, fearsome legends of terrifying monsters and glittering, doom-laden treasures. The perils of the Lonely Coast are legion and thus there is always a need for those with stout hearts and skill with blade and spell or for those merely hungry for glory to defend humanity’s most tenuous enclave.
Lonely Coast is a mini-setting created for Retribution - a fun map of which can be found here. The adventure opens with the party having just departed Swallowfield towards the Priory of Cymer (located near the bottom of the map). The adventures assumes the PCs to be Swallowfield natives as well, but I won't require this as long as you have some reason to be in Swallowfield and then the Priory (note: "In the name of ADVENTURE!" is always a perfectly good reason!). I'll provide some possible hooks below as well as this mini-guide to Swallowfield, but I'd be more than happy to work with you to develop whatever kind of hooks or background you might like. I'll be putting some Lonely Coast information in the Campaign Info over the next few days as well.

Hooks:
The Priory of Cymer is a small, backwater shrine named after a local saint. The priory was founded at the behest of Cymer (a visionary believer) who foresaw that a great evil would arise at the site. It never did and over the last few decades, the place has fallen out of favor with the populace of the nearby villages; now few worship there. You are travelling to the priory to prepare a report for your church superiors.

You are travelling to Cymer at the behest of Tahllian Liaiamne. Tahllian (a powerful elven mercenary warrior) is searching for his wayward half-elven son, Malvenos. Tahllian, recently hearing stories of a half-elven warrior watching over the priests at Cymer, has dispatched you to investigate. Your mission is simple; to determine whether the half-elf is indeed Malvenos but not to alert him to his father's interest in the priory.

Curate at the priory, Ruan is an old man and no longer instructs new acolytes. In the past though, he trained hundreds of the Brotherhood of the Unalterable Way, while others embraced the mainstream church. One of your parents, a former student of Ruan's, yet holds him in high esteem and has dispatched you to deliver a gift to the aging cleric - a finely illustrated copy of the Book of Exalted Prayers.

The merchant Tryfena of Swallowfield has hired you to recover a set of silver and jade earrings. A thief broke into Tryfena's stockade trading post several days ago, but was injured by a poison dart trap. The thief (a human female) was last seen fleeing in the direction of the priory. Tryfena does not care what happens to the thief, she just wants her earrings back.

You are a devout follower of Darlen, god of Law, Order, Justice and the Sun. You're travelling to the priory to either pray before the high altar or to gain Ruan's spiritual guidance on some important matter.

You've been infected with a disturbing disease (or perhaps some virulent poison courses through our veins). Lacking the resources to deal with the problem yourself, you're headed for the priory to seek aid.

Recruitment will stay open until Christmas, so as to avoid starting the game during the holiday lull.

you sir i like, avoiding the alignment restrictions ruling and such. I've wanted to play a neutral good monk without the pesky aasimar only trait that allows it for some time now.

His name is Abel the Wanderer, he is an Undine Flowing Monk. The Undine part isn't necessary, but it does help with well with his nature heavy theming, specifically his theme of redirecting and tripping the opponent, moving gracefully and such. If not allowed no big deal, human can still work.

You are travelling to Cymer at the behest of Tahllian Liaiamne. Tahllian (a powerful elven mercenary warrior) is searching for his wayward half-elven son, Malvenos. Your mission is simple; to determine whether the half-elf is indeed Malvenos but not to alert him to his father's interest in the priory. --- Probably going to use this hook, works very well with his character

Short summation of him--:
He grew in a remote area listening and learning from the Spirits of Nature (at least that's what he calls them) He learned to fight by listening and fights in both a Graceful and strong fashion.

He wishes to right the wrongs and imbalances of the world in his own way. Has an strong sense of morality understanding where good and evil stand.

Personality wise he is a listener.

He is patient and wise, he seeks to help other overcome personal quandaries by helping them understand other points of view.

Being hopeful and relatively at peace, he doesn't start fights but when started he will fight back. Even when scared he tries not to show fear and acts as an example for others to follow.

He does whats right not for a reward, but because he believes that is how people should act.

I'll post under his alias when done

I'm interested enough to bite. I love published adventures but only read Paizo's, so it'd be nice to have an acclaimed adventure of which I know nothing. I think I'll also enjoy a new publisher and fresh game.

Here's my question:
Since I only have time to really devote to one other PBP campaign, I'd like to know about the balance between investigation/roleplay/intrigue/background verses the combat/traps-&-puzzles/rollplay/classic adventure.
On a scale of one to ten, a one equaling all investigation/roleplay and a ten equaling all combat/rollplay, where would you put Retribution?

Very interested!

Great to see some interest!

Ammon - Undine could certainly work - I'll await your background to see how you work it in before deciding.

W E Ray - I'd say it's a pretty even mix with a slight focus on roleplay, maybe in the 3-5 range but this is of course dependent on player action. I don't have access to my PDFs at the moment, but once I do I'll be able to give a more exact answer.

Dot for interest!

I'm currently thinking of submitting an Oracle. This would allow for some good religious themes without tying me to a golarian deity. And oracles are so versatile.

GM, what kind of feel are you going for with the group? Do you want it to be more along the lines of mundane Swallowfield citizens (local ranger, town guard, tavern bard, etc), or more outlandish and exotic? I'm toying with the idea of a sorceress with the undead lineage, which might lend itself to the suspense/horror vibe of the game, but don't want to go off the reservation if something along those lines might clash with the game you're envisioning.

You, sir, have piqued my interest. My first instinct was to make a kineticist, but that's mostly because I just really like kineticists. Depending on what exactly you're looking for, though, I might want to go with one of the other Occult classes...

I post like crazy. Just look at how often I'm replying to my players as The Green Tea Overseer in not one, but two games I run. Three times a day minimum sounds wonderful; the only game I'm currently in as a player rarely gets one a day from people who aren't me, and I've been itching to do more from the player side. However, the majority of my interaction is on my phone, as I have no internet at home, and I have been told that Roll20 is not phone friendly if the GM is using the free version. Actually, I know it isn't. I can't even look at the map, let alone alter my position. Are you using the free version or do you have any map applications that are more phone friendly? Don't want to come up with a concept if ultimately I can only participate those few occasions where I take my computer somewhere with WIFI.

"Mundane Swallowfield" seems to be what the module authors were leaning towards, but I'd rather people submit the kind of characters that they want to play than try to conform to the adventure - and if that means exotic then so be it. The main element you should have is some sort of reason to be caught up in these events.

As to Roll20 I unfortunately do not have the free version and Roll20 is where my mapping experience lies. As I said the adventure has a fair bit of roleplaying so we won't be needing Roll20 all the time, but it will definitely see some good use.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

Great. I'll go for a more mundane concept then. Still plenty of fun to be had with basic PC ideas ;)

IMO mundane backgrounds lend towards greater horror because the truly supernatural elements really stand out against the status quo. I'm thinking movies like Alien and Hellraiser where the horror doesn't just arise from the monsters themselves but the idea that truly awful things can happen to "normal" people.

I'm considering a few different angles for my character. I saw there was a mill in the village, would it happen to be a watermill, a windmill, or something else?

Two questions:

First, what will the level progression for this adventure look like?

Second, developing the idea of a flame Oracle, I see my character as being a devout follower of the sun deity, but I'm also intrigued by the "strange disease" hook. That sounds like a great way to implement my Oracle curse (as wasting?). What do you think?

Here's electricjokecascade's submission, Elessa Tagoros, a human fighter that specializes in the bow.

Her background is tragic yet probably all too common in the Lonely Coast region; her parents were killed by burglars, and she was sent to live with her aunt Mellyn Vosper. In time she was recruited by Sir Tallek to train in the Hold, and there she improved the skill with the bow that she'd developed under Mellyn, as well as developing some familiarity with the longsword.

She's twenty three and impatient for adventure by the time Tryfena asks for help in recovering her earrings, and leaps at the chance to assist.

Liberty's Edge

Given the layout of the area, I'd love to put forward Ghogron. A barbarian woodcutter that helps supply the town with lumber. Never one to be the life of the party, he is most comfortable in the wilderness with his axe in hand and the idea of a massive target to fell. General reason for needing to head to the priory, I was thinking that while he was in the woods on his last trip, he got scraped up on some thorned plants and they seem to have become somewhat infected. Unsure what to do, he heads to the priory to get healing.

More beyond that I'll have to flesh out over the next couple days.

Darnit, roleplay heavy combined with frequent posting grabs me. I can just take my laptop to work on combat days, I guess. So, I'm getting a book 1 of Kingmaker meets Skull and Shakles vibe from the intro.

Anyway, since it's on the fringes I'm thinking a druid, ranger, or hunter (leaning more towards druid) would be a good fit. I'll do a little research and see if there's a concept I think would fit relatively well; its been a while since I played a druid or ranger, and I've never actually tried a hunter (I find myself hard pressed to find something they're good at that a ranger or druid couldn't do better.)

As I'm not familiar with the setting, I'd like to know more about druids, rangers, etc., there. Are they literally divinely powered only, like in Forgotten Realms, where they're basically nature clerics, or is it more a direct land powered thing?

Submitting, for humble consideration, Kivyx, the "paladin of life" and champion of the weak (despite his own weaknesses). He's come to Swallowfield (and consequently heading to the Priory) chasing rumors that a female paladin matching the description of the one who spared his life has passed through with a motley group of sellswords, and is on her way to the Priory, although the reason for the visit is unknown.

History:
"I wasn't always this way. I didn't 'fight evil' or spread 'justice' or do any of that stuff. I was just some kobold living with my tribe underground, trying to figure out my place in the tribe pecking order. And from the way things were going, I was going to be on the very bottom of it.

"I used to live with my tribe, the Stonescales, in our warren in Andoran. We weren't large, but we were respectable. We could fend for ourselves and most of those who couldn't were put to work doing things nobody else wanted to... and for us, that usually meant mining hard to reach veins, testing out snarl defenses, or 'protecting' our tribe from invaders. I was in the middle of that. We were sent into a human mine we had dug into to survey things and snatch up anything that wasn't nailed down. Mining tools, labor animals, resources, the chief said it all belonged to us, and rightfully so: the humans were just leaving the stuff laying around, clearly not putting it to good use. It made sense at the time. We'd raided a few times before, but in this case, the humans were prepared.

"We stumbled across a band of 'adventurers' who had been hired to try and keep us out. We were unequipped to deal with them, and so the leader told us to hold them off while he went to get reinforcements and alert the tribe. We all knew what he was really doing - running for safety. But we don't question that: it gets you killed, and the tribe needs all the valuable warriors it can keep alive. My kin flew blindly into battle and the result was... predictable. I just cowered in the corner, hoping they wouldn't see me. But they did, and just before one of the humans could strike me down with his sword, a female in the group stepped in and stopped him. She was... remarkable. The most beautiful softskin I'd ever seen. I knew she was human, but her eyes, her scaled armor, her long hair... I thought she might have been a metallic dragon in disguise. But she stopped the sword and smiled at me; I thought she wanted to kill me herself.

"But she didn't. She came down to my level - I didn't even know humans could go so low - and she spoke to me in my own language! She asked me why I was here, what I wanted, what was going on. I told her everything, hoping it would placate her and earn me my life. And then... she said... she wasn't going to kill me... or let the other humans do me in... she said I wasn't evil, and that I should be given a chance to prove it. I... I was... I still am... utterly stunned! She was going to let me live! I couldn't help, but ask her why, and... she said that every life is... precious... that I was precious... and she wanted to save every life that she could. And then, just like that, she stood up and lead the others back out of the mine.

"...I was shocked. I couldn't believe what had happened, but it did. She spared my life. She saved me. Because she said my life was precious. I was precious. I'm nobody! I'm a monster, who wasn't even good at being a monster! But... she said I was precious! I didn't know what to do. I knew I couldn't go back to my tribe, not after that. I had failed... even if I had spinned it around in my favor, I couldn't back up what I said. I would just go back to being a flunky to our chief. So... I didn't! I just left, and followed after the female warrior. I stayed out of sight, but I couldn't help learning more. I wanted to know why exactly she saved me. I can't say how long I followed her, but I know it felt like a long time - she was strong and fearless and persistent and patient and... all of these things that I wasn't. I wasn't exactly sure what she was doing, but whatever she did, she tried to give those who she faced a chance to throw down their weapons. That confused me to no end. For my kind, you strike first and never wonder if it was the right choice, because that was always the right choice.

"...but I... I wanted to believe that was wrong. I wanted to believe that not killing was a good choice. I don't know why, maybe because it was what spared my life, but... I did. I wanted - no, I want to be like that human. I'm not there, not by a long shot. But... I want to know why she spared me. I have to know. Why is life precious? Why must it be saved? What about me is so special that this softskin human, who had never met me, knew nothing of me, and shouldn't have saved me, would show me kindness... some monster who had been left for dead at the hands of his own kind?

"I don't know the answer yet. I might never figure it out. I'd like to, but I don't expect to live too long continuing the way I do - you know, the whole 'fighting evil' thing. But... I like to think that I will, just like the thought that sparing enemies might be a good idea. It's nice to think about, for a change, instead of thinking that everything in the world is out to kill me, including my own kin.

"Since then, I found some supplies of my own and tried to become like that female warrior. Fight evil, spread justice, protect the innocent, all that stuff. I don't know if I'm doing it right - probably not, but I'm trying. I just travel from place to place trying to right wrongs and prevent death if I can. I know I don't fight fair; I can't, honestly. I wasn't cut out for our tribe's mines, so I know I'm not going to have luck swinging a big sword like she did. I sneak around, ambush bad guys, set up traps, everything you'd expect from my kind. Sometimes, I have to steal stuff to keep going - I know I shouldn't, but most people are very nervous around me and don't like to talk to me. I don't blame them, but it does force me to be dishonest sometimes. But it means I can't always get things that I need. I try to, but...

"...it is kind of nice, though, being the... the 'good guy' for a change. I think I'm doing the right thing. I don't really know. Maybe, if Apsu wills it, I'll get to see that female paladin again and ask her if what I'm doing is... 'good'. Or at least thank her for sparing my life. I'd like to prove to her - to myself, really - that saving me was the right choice. I'd like that... I'd like that a lot."

Background:

Growing up in the Forest

My name is Abel, growing up alone i never knew my parents. That wasn't a problem though, nature raised me. The spirits of nature taught me to survive, to be strong. For as long as i could remember, i knew nothing but the surround forests and mountains, as i grew older i grew more curious. I would talk with the spirits, they would listen responding in it's own way. I asked about other people, I was shown only water. I didn't understand... but spirits wouldn't tell me...So i left to find the answers for myself.

First Contact

I found my way to a small town, the people their gave me odd looks. They didn't look the same as me, I asked what they were and they said human. No webbed toes or hands, were they different or was it me. I chose to stay in town, at least for a short time. I helped found a niche in helping people, my first contact with humans...

Their is always hope

The older children around town, I found would bully some of the weaker children...Survival of the fittest, the way of nature. I struggled with my thoughts...Which was right, which was wrong. Were the weaker to fall to the strong? I took time to figure out this issue i had come across. The children were angry about something and lashing out...I pulled them aside after learning what i had. I told them "Anger has no real power, it is caused by fear and despair. Follow such power will lead you down an unpleasant road, but their is always hope, Always a chance to turn back". [/i]

Appearance and Personality:

Abel is a patient watcher and listener, He only fights back when he needs to. He believes strongly that negative emotions have no real power. He is eager to teach others, but is not a preacher. He does what must be done in order to help people grow in a positive manner.

He looks mostly human with a few exceptions, his hands an feet are webbed. He has long grayish blue hair and limpid blue eyes.

Everything should be about done, need to purchase gear still but no biggie on that. Below is a link to his alias.

I'll start looking over the character submissions tomorrow - for now, question time!

To follow up on the roleplaying vs combat question earlier - roughly half of the events/encounters as written up in the adventure contain combat. I'd say this tilts the tilts the balance in favor of roleplaying, considering that any unexpected player-driven events are most likely going to focus on roleplaying.

Level Progression - The adventure will likely end with everyone at level 2, so don't count on leveling during the adventure. If (and only if) we end up continuing the mini campaign, you can expect to reach somewhere in the 4-8 level range.

---

Newbonomicon - It's never actually specified, but judging by the fact that the mill is located on the river, I think we can safely assume it's a water mill.

Something Wicked - Using a freshly developed Oracle curse as the disease would be a great hook! Obviously, don't expect the priests to be able to cure you. Might I also reccommend Darlen as your sun diety? He's actually the god currently worshipped at the priory.

  • Darlen:
LG god of Law, Order, Justice, and the Sun
Ephithets: The Justicar, the Shining Light, the Noble One
    Symbol: The rising sun
    Domains: Good, Law, Protection, Sun
    Favored Weapon: Longsword
Raiment: Voluminous, white cowled habits. Unless expecting battle, clerics do not wear armour.
Teachings: The strong must protect the weak, for this is the natural order. Those with great abilities or aptitudes must use their gifts for the betterment of their fellows. The faithful must be ever vigilant for evil's rise, but must show mercy in dealing with its tools.
Holy Texts: Darlen's teachings are set down in the Scripture of Law - a vast tome containing teaching, stories and lessions by some of his early, prominent followers. Divine Order and On Darkness' Rise are important early commentaries penned by legendary high priests.
  • thegreenteagamer - The setting deals more with the specific location rather than larger concepts such as how different classes gain their powers. As such, you're free to go whatever way you like with regards to "nature" magic.

Coming Soon: A Brief Guide to the Lonely Coast

    What dieties exist in world?

Mmm. Yeah, count me out, thanks. Two levels of gameplay is not really worth the work. Good luck!

    Grand Lodge

    Thanks for the info.

I'm going to pass, also, same reason as GreenTea, not being able to get to the mid-to-high levels in the game.

I'll very likely lurk and enjoy the game vicariously, though.

    Have fun everyone!

    Dark Archive

    I'll throw my hat in.

I'll also openly hope on a rich and engaging atmosphere of active players carrying the struggle on to 8th level. (What? Hoping ain't a plan?)

I'd concur that going through the work of making a fresh character would be a bit steep for something that appears to be so brief. Hmmm. If only....

    Sczarni

Dot me for interest and I'll submit a Swallowfield denizen shortly.

Thank you for this fun idea!

    Liberty's Edge

    Hi there!

Character submission for Atlas2112. (I love Warpriests. They can fill so many roles. =)

I made this character with love and skill for a campaign that promised fun and excitement with heavy role play. After the first combat the DM quit.

So let us cry HAVOK and once more unto the breach go!
(Ya, I torture my Shakespeare references. He doesn't seem to mind though. =)

I'm actually going to be backing out as well, game seems interesting but short camapaigns aren't really my thing.

The most powerful weapon in the world is the soul on fire.

I (Something Wicked) submit Brevon Sabor, Oracle (Enlightened Philosopher) of Flame, devotee of Darlen.

His profile is mostly complete, only lacking a physical description, which I will update later this evening. Feedback is appreciated.

I'll throw my interest in the ring, willing to pick up any role that the party lacks. Will be back with a concept by tommrow at latest.

Campaign Info section now has some basic Lonely Coast stuff. Also of note - the village I've been calling Swallowfield is actually Swallowfeld.

Deities I'm still wrestling with. The actual Lonely Coast book mentions only three deities - the sun god Darlen, the god of community Conn, and the evil god of hatred Braal. For the rest, I'll probably just let anyone who wants to worship something more exotic to steal their favorite deity from another setting. I have, however, been toying with the idea of transplanting the Lonely Coast somewhere into the awesome Midgard Campaign Setting and then using one of the pantheon's there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My submission is ready! I've built Agana Besken, a native to Swallowfeld who discovered, to her horror, that she had a knack for making the blood jump out of people's bodies.

    Crunch

    Background:
The little Besken girl, Agana, was always a dainty one. She would spend hours just sitting by the side of the river, watching the wheel at the mill turn. What the other folks in Swallowfeld didn't know was that the more she watched that river, the more she could feel it flowing, as if it were an extension of her. Perhaps she was born with the gift, or perhaps anyone could have learned if they spent as much time watching the river as Agana did. The only thing certain is that, after years of watching the river go by, the little Besken girl could tell the river where to go.

At first, she kept it a secret. She practiced by moving the mill just a bit harder than it would normally go, and eventually, she was ready to show someone. She brought her younger cousin to the river one day, and began to show off her talents, but in her excitement, she turned to see her cousin's expression... and ripped the blood from her body. At the tender age of fourteen, Agana watched her cousin bleed to death, and vowed to never use her powers again.

Added some information about deities to the campaign info tab including the most popular (non-evil) gods of both the Lonely Coast and the surrounding kingdoms (shamelessly stolen from Midgard). If anyone had worship of a different deity in mind, post the Golarion version and I'll add the Midgard equivalent to the deities list.

Next order of business: Reviewing the current applications.

Some brief thoughts on the current submissions:

Elessa Tagoros - If I understand correctly Elessa originally lived as an orphan in a "nearby city." Wolverton is the largest nearby settlement but its much smaller than a full-fledged city and the only church there would be to Conn. If this wasn't what you had in mind, she could still be from a larger city further away. I'm mainly trying to figure out where she might have a relevant contact, should she ever travel to Wolverton or this larger city somewhere else in the kingdoms.

Kivyx - I'm not sure how big a role you had in mind for Kivyx's faith, but you might also consider these two new draconic deities (although Apsu is fine as well).

    Baal:

Lord of Fire and Master of Noble Sacrifice, King of All Dragons, Guardian of the Sultana, Lord of Soldiers, Scarlet Protector of the Innocent, the Supreme Fire Dragon, and Patron of the Empire and Dragonkin
Domains: Fire, Drakes*, Nobility, Protection, Repose, Scalykind
    Subdomains: Ancestors, Ash, Defense,
    Dragon, Martyr, Smoke
    Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Liath Gwenilian - I checked out the previous camapaign and it looks like the crunch requirements were mostly the same. Just make sure to drop a trait/drawback and knock your point buy back down to 20.

Brevon Sabor - I'm curious about the circumstances surrounding Brevon's wife's death. Was this a mysterious illness, tragic accident, or even a possible foul play type deal? Or does Brevon even know all the details?

Agana Beskin - How did the town react to sudden death of Agana's cousin? Was Agana put to blame? Does anyone in town know of her powers?

Good question. I'm thinking she dumped the body in the river and claimed it was a drowning. As far as anyone can tell, she seems about as traumatized as someone who watched a family member fall into a river and drown would be, so not many people question it.

It's possible that someone may have seen her practicing before the accident, if that fits the story, but as far as Agana is aware, no one knows about her powers except her.

    The Lonely GM:

Brevon's wife committed suicide, weighing her apron down with rocks and wading into the river.

Thanks for the feedback, GM. Yes, Wolverton would work fine; I used the term 'city' simply due to not knowing the local geography, but any urban center - no matter how large or small - can work. We can easily swap in the church to Conn as well.

Any other thoughts, questions, or feedback is most welcome. Cheers!

    Liberty's Edge

    Done!

(That's right, the other game was 22. Odd. Changed Cha to 8 'cause she's all business. Got rid of a drawback and feat. Tally ho!)

The deliver a "copy of the Book of Exalted Prayers" seems appropriate, here. A holy task, of some importance, that would be entrusted to a devoted warpriest.

Since Darlen is known as The Rising Sun, it seems that his followers should have some common blessing, recognized by them and the populace.

"The light be upon you, brother."

    =)

"The light be upon you as well, sister."

    For the sake of Adventure!

I'd like to use the hook that Mort has caught a disease and is seeking help.

Some larger world maps are now up on the info tab (as well as in this post). Since this is a Lonely Coast game, we most likely won't be exploring these areas, but one never knows...

    Maps of the Surrounding Lands:

what provocative names! "Leofwine Althing," "Ruins of Thorn," "Winterheim." I want to go there! I hope you're able to continue this campaign.

Mort Aber - Check your point buy, it looks like 28 or something crazy.

Dot. The setting/adventure sound really interesting. I not concerned about only going to 2nd level this sounds fun. I will have something up by Sunday.

@The Lonely GM - Honestly, religion isn't terribly crucial to Kivyx as he isn't even sure if what he's doing is the "right thing", much less if it's holy. However, those two dragon gods sound intriguing, particularly Baal... I might switch to him to immerse in the campaign a bit more. And certainly, him turning to religion for answers would be fun to play out (perhaps he learns his hero has died and, following his rage with no place to turn to for answers, he starts worshiping Baal in hopes it gives him some sort of insight... I dunno)

Kivyx - I wouldn't worry about it too much then, Baal really doesn't have much of a following out in the Lonely Coast and won't be featured much over some of the more local Gods.

Nope, I spent 20. Do I need to reread the character development? I could have missed something..

    Strength 10 -> 12 2 points
    Dexterity 12 -> 16 5 points
    Constitution 10 -> 14 5 points
    Intelligence 12 -> 16 5 points
    Wisdom 10 -> 12 2 points
    Charisma 08 -> 09 1 point
    20 points total

Let me know, I'm using an older character and can remake a new one easy peasy! Thank you.

Caught my mistake. Cancel Mort. He's a teifling. My bad.

Aah, didn't realize that Mort was a tiefling. This isn't strictly disallowed, but you'll need some further justification via his back story.

    Dark Archive

It's easier to just make a new character than change Mort.

    Here's Lenvarion Flameblade. "Lenny"

I'll get his fluff going tomorrow, or someday between now and Christmas day... ;)
