Hey All! It's been quite a while since I've been here... anyways;

To preface this, I've seen a lot of banter back and forth on this subject. I don't know if it's ever been officially answered or not either... but I would love to know if that's not the case and there is something official out there. This is an old subject I'm sure, ...

Quote:
Bonus Feat: At 1st level, 2nd level, and every 4 levels thereafter, a monk can select a bonus feat. These feats must be taken from the following list: Catch Off-Guard, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Dodge, Improved Grapple, Scorpion Style, and Throw Anything. At 6th level, the following feats are added to the list: Gorgon’s Fist, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Trip, and Mobility. At 10th level, the following feats are added to the list: Improved Critical, Medusa’s Wrath, Snatch Arrows, and Spring Attack. A monk need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for these feats to select them.

So, Monk Bonus Feats; The Monk has a short list of them to choose from to start, and eventually gains access to more. Very handy. However, once you have access to other additional Feats after level 6, 10, 14, or 18, you can take much more important Feats instead of settling for the lesser ones available initially. This brings me to the probably age-old question now;

When you Retrain a Bonus Feat, is there anything written(developer, FAQ, RAW, frowned upon by DM, James Jacbos, PFS, etc) against putting a higher level available bonus feat, into a lower level slot?

In Example;

A level 12 Monk wants to move the Level 10 Bonus Feat:Medusa's Wrath into the Monk Level 6 bonus Feat slot(basically removing his Deflect ArrowsImproved Trip that was there), so that he can put Improved Critical into the Level 10 Bonus Feat Slot.

Thank you in advance for anything you provide! Please keep this discussion civil and constructive :)

Note I also have this post on Reddit due to the different audiences.

Hey Everyone! I've hopped into a Gestalt campaign recently, starting at level 1, and I just wanted advice on what to best combine with the Unchained Monk! He will likely be a weaponized Monk for the most part and rarely use unarmed strikes. The plan is to utilize Snake Style(or whatever) + Ascetic Style + Weapon Style Mastery to aid in this. So the rules we have to stick to, we pick one class and that'll be the class that stays pure, then for the second part of gestalt, we can combine whatever classes we like along the way. We rolled our stats, and I got two 18s and a 17, followed by a 13, 7, and 3... which worked out great for the Monk. Any race is OK, but I ended up going with Kasathas for the extra defense, and having four arms to hold stuff is convenient.

That being said, what should I do with my gestalt levels?

Originally I thought about UMonk/Druid(8+ and Shaping Focus) primarily for Strong Jaw access, Wild Shape into an Elemental Form(Earth or Air), and the ability to use armor and it not counting as actual armor mostly to get the AC and the Brawling enchant. Unfortunately that whole armor thing is out the window since now you do count as wearing armor while wild shaped(if you actually have some on), which screws up my Monk pretty badly. There's a whole "Wild Armor" thread somewhere on it too..

Power Attack

Benefit: You can choose to take a –1 penalty on all melee attack rolls and combat maneuver checks to gain a +2 bonus on all melee damage rolls. This bonus to damage is increased by half (+50%) if you are making an attack with a two-handed weapon, a one handed weapon using two hands, or a primary natural weapon that adds 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier on damage rolls.
Quote:

Dragon Ferocity

Benefit: While using Dragon Style, you gain a bonus on unarmed strike damage rolls equal to half your Strength bonus. When you score a critical hit or a successful Stunning Fist attempt against an opponent while using this style, that opponent is also shaken for a number of rounds equal to 1d4 + your Strength bonus.
Quote:

Unarmed Strike

A monk’s unarmed strike is treated as both a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.

If I'm using Dragon Ferocity, hitting with my Unarmed Strike; Does my Power Attack grant the bonus to damage that you'd normally gain with swinging a Temple Sword two-handed?

The way I'm reading this, is that because I'm using Dragon Ferocity, it's granting my Unarmed Attacks a bonus to Strength damage. It's effectively adding 1.5x my Strength modifier on damage rolls, so then I should gain the increased Power Attack damage in combination. I just want to be sure though, so I'm bringing it here.

Sczarni

Fairly lengthy post, apologies in advance for any bloodied retinas and if this is the 477th time this has been asked for clarity. FAQ if necessary.

Question 1: It's safe to say, we can have Ascetic Style and Snake Style active at the same time due to Weapon Style Mastery. With that being said, would my Weapon Strikes with the Sansetsukon benefit from all of the Snake Style feats?

+Piercing with Sansetsukon
+Sense Motive check to Confirm Crit with Sansetsukon
+AoO with Sansetsukon if opponent misses me

Question 2: When striking my opponent with my Sansetsukon, what would it's overall effect be?

I was thinking: +3 enhancement, +2 attack/damage(brawling), flaming, impact, ki intensifying; if I'm reading the feats and combining them correctly in my head.

Question 3: Would I gain the DR Bypassing of my IUS via Monk levels, in combination with whatever is on my Sansetsukon?(not stacking, but overlapping)

Question 4: If I'm reading this correctly; Would I make attacks with my Sansetsukon instead of IUS with the abilities of Snake Fang, Punishing Kick(if I happened to pick up this feat too), and Stunning Fist?

Question 5: Would I need Ascetic Form to utilize my Sansetsukon with Style Strike abilities and any other Monk granted ability that normally requires an Unarmed Strike?

Ascetic Style:
Benefit: Choose one weapon from the monk fighter weapon group. While using this style and wielding the chosen weapon, you can apply the effects of feats that have Improved Unarmed Strike as a prerequisite, as well as effects that augment an unarmed strike, as if attacks with the weapon were unarmed attacks.

Snake Style/Sidewind/Fang:
Benefit: You gain a +2 bonus on Sense Motive checks, and you can deal piercing damage with your unarmed strikes. While using the Snake Style feat, when an opponent targets you with a melee or ranged attack, you can spend an immediate action to make a Sense Motive check. You can use the result as your AC or touch AC against that attack. You must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed.

Benefit: You gain a +4 bonus to CMD against trip combat maneuvers and on Acrobatics checks and saving throws to avoid being knocked prone. While using the Snake Style feat, whenever you score a critical threat with your unarmed strike, you can make a Sense Motive check in place of the attack roll to confirm the critical hit. Whenever you score a critical hit with your unarmed strike, you can spend an immediate action to take a 5-foot step even if you have otherwise moved this round.

Benefit: While using the Snake Style feat, when an opponent’s attack misses you, you can make an unarmed strike against that opponent as an attack of opportunity. If this attack of opportunity hits, you can spend an immediate action to make another unarmed strike against the same opponent.

Weapon Style Mastery:
Benefit: Choose one weapon style (a style feat that lists Weapon Focus as a prerequisite) that you have. You can have the chosen style and a second style active at once. Starting a stance provided by a style feat is still a swift action, but you can assume both the chosen weapon style’s stance and another style’s stance simultaneously using this action. This ability doesn’t stack with other abilities that allow you to have multiple styles active at the same time.

Amulet of Mighty Fists:
This amulet grants an enhancement bonus of +1 to +5 on attack and damage rolls with unarmed attacks and natural weapons.

Alternatively, this amulet can grant melee weapon special abilities, so long as they can be applied to unarmed attacks. See Table: Melee Weapon Special Abilities for a list of abilities. Special abilities count as additional bonuses for determining the market value of the item, but do not modify attack or damage bonuses. An amulet of mighty fists cannot have a modified bonus (enhancement bonus plus special ability bonus equivalents) higher than +5. An amulet of mighty fists does not need to have a +1 enhancement bonus to grant a melee weapon special ability.

+2 Enhancement Bonus with Flaming

Sansetsukon:
+3 Enhancement Bonus with Impact and Ki Intensifying

Bracers of Armor:
+1 Armor and Brawling Enchant (is this legal?)

All Definitions pulled from Archives of Nethys

Sczarni

Ascetic Style + Weapon Style Mastery
Benefit: Choose one weapon from the monk fighter weapon group. While using this style and wielding the chosen weapon, you can apply the effects of feats that have Improved Unarmed Strike as a prerequisite, as well as effects that augment an unarmed strike, as if attacks with the weapon were unarmed attacks.
Benefit: Choose one weapon style (a style feat that lists Weapon Focus as a prerequisite) that you have. You can have the chosen style and a second style active at once.

Dragon Style:
Benefit: While using this style, you gain a +2 bonus on saving throws against sleep effects, paralysis effects, and stunning effects. You ignore difficult terrain when you charge, run, or withdraw. You can also charge through squares that contain allies. Further, you can add 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus on the damage roll for your first unarmed strike on a given round.

Dragon Ferocity:
Benefit: While using Dragon Style, you gain a bonus on unarmed strike damage rolls equal to half your Strength bonus.

Question:
So, somehow combining all of these Feats together: Would these actually end up stacking the Str multiplier for damage between Wielding a two handed weapon and Dragon Ferocity?

If it does, would it look like 1st Attack: 2.5x Str All other Attacks: 2x Str?

The logic I'm seeing behind this so far: 2H weapon or one-handed weapon being swung with 2 hands = 1.5x for all attacks in that way, Dragon Style + Ascetic Style bumps it up to 2x for the first attack, Dragon Ferocity bumps the first attack up to 2.5x and the rest of the attacks up to 2x. All of this due to "you can apply the effects of feats that have Improved Unarmed Strike as a prerequisite, as well as effects that augment an unarmed strike, as if attacks with the weapon were unarmed attacks." clause in Ascetic Style.

Sczarni

Well, this is personally my first Ascetic Style question, as I've been away from Pathfinder for a little over a year now. I come back, and of course there are more books :D

Anyways;
Ascetic Style + Weapon Style Master + Crane Style(or some other Style aside from Pummeling). I want to make a more weapon focused Monk without being forced to be a Sohei or something other than Unchained Monk, essentially. Weapon Style Master and Crane Style/Other is just an example of what I'd combine it with.

Ascetic Style:
Benefit: Choose one weapon from the monk fighter weapon group. While using this style and wielding the chosen weapon, you can apply the effects of feats that have Improved Unarmed Strike as a prerequisite, as well as effects that augment an unarmed strike, as if attacks with the weapon were unarmed attacks.*

Special: A 5th-level monk or character with the weapon training (monk) class feature can use Ascetic Style with any monk weapon, in addition to the chosen melee weapon.

It uses some of the same verbiage that Feral Combat Training uses. This leads me to believe I can effectively use my weapon for almost anything that I'd be forced to use my fists for, including any Feats that have IUS as a prereq.

Is this a correct understanding?

Is my Unarmed Damage(scaling) considered Augmentation of my Unarmed Strikes; and would that then replace the damage on say, a Temple Sword?

If I have an AoMF giving me something like... Ki Focus +3, and a Temple Sword giving me Flaming +2; Do these combine in any way, into one swing with the Temple Sword? If so, how exactly do they combine?

The "Feat" part of it makes sense for me and I feel pretty confident I understand it. I'll try to further google/search answers to specific Feat/Ascetic combinations if I ever have any.

Also from what I've read... Enhancement Bonuses would not stack, which is perfectly reasonable. I don't expect any bonus types of the same to stack.

Sczarni

With the recent Errata of Ultimate Book, now at version 2.0; It seems they've tuned down Crane Wing/Riposte.

If I'm reading this correctly, it doesn't deflect attacks anymore, but instead just jacks up AC?

If I had all 3 Feats and were at least level 3+...

I'd have a change in stats/abilities as below:

+4 AC for fighting defensively
-2 Attack for fighting defensively
+4 Dodge bonus from Crane Wing(which you suffer temporary loss if they get too close to hitting you)
Deflect??
CounterAttack if something Misses(causing your dodge bonus to temporarily retreat) or is Deflected??

Page 93—In the Crane Riposte feat, in the Benefit, change the second sentence to the following: Whenever you def lect an opponent’s attack using Crane Wing or lose the dodge bonus from Crane Wing because an attack missed you by 4 or less, you can make an attack of opportunity against the attacker after the attack misses.

In the Crane Wing feat, in the Benefit entry, change the first two sentences to the following: When fighting defensively with at least one hand free, you gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against melee attacks. If a melee attack misses you by 4 or less, you lose this dodge bonus until the beginning of your next turn.

It says to change the first two sentences... but those first two sentences are literally the entire benefit entry. To me that says it doesn't deflect anymore?

Hello Everyone!

I've recently started back up with PFS, and I decided to make an Unchained Monk, Human. From what I see it's Legal, which is great and I really do look forward to the new Monk.

Character design aside, I'd like to rake in extra GP when I can... so how do I go about that with Pathfinder Society; and is it worth it?

If I had any kind of off-time activity to pull in extra spending money, It'd probably be blacksmithing, toymaking, or historical(artifacts(not the wonderous or magical kind), maps, statues, jewelry, etc - related trade/sales.

Question: does the Oread Monk Favored Bonus of +1/3 Critical Hit Confirmation per Level stack with the Snake Sidewind Feat?

Oread Monk: Add +1/3 on critical hit confirmation rolls made with unarmed strikes(maximum bonus of +5). This bonus does not stack with critical focus.

Snake Sidewind: While using the Snake style feat, whenever you score a critical threat with your unarmed strike, you can make sense motive check in place of the attack roll to confirm the critical hit.

Howdy Everyone! It's been quite some time since I've been to these forums; but I'm back and getting ready to join a local friend's Pathfinder game. I'm pretty excited! Lately I've been catching up on as much stuff about Monks as possible, and a new one came up. Unchained Monk!

Now I'd love to run a Dex/Wis build, but I'm debating just running a Str/Wis build instead. I've got quite a few ideas for it, and I'm more than happy to accept any and all ideas/builds for a Strength based Unchained Monk; but I just have one main question...

Is there any way I can get away with still using Fast Movement, Flurry of Blows, and AC Bonus; while wearing Armor?

Sczarni

So, I'm working on this Weapon Finesse guide, and perhaps I'm reading too deeply into the Weapon Finesse and other abilities that support it's use, but I need help with it at this point.

This is an attempt to essentially Convert a One-Handed and/or Two-Handed Weapon, that is not Normally Finessable, into a Finessable Weapon. The First Catch: It needs to be converted in a way, that the 1:3 Power Attack value can be obtained; On top of being Finessable. The Second Catch is that this is based on a Qinggong Monk with Weapon Finesse, Weapon Focus(whatever), and Crusader's Flurry. For now, I can pretend any Favored Weapon exists(though I'm editing for RAW later).

Not only am I working with this, but I'm also involving a Level in Swashbuckler, taking up the Kata Master Archetype, and/or Slashing Grace if necessary.

My Question: Is it possible to convert a One-Handed or Two-Handed weapon into a Finessable weapon, when it Normally Isn't Finessable?

Edited for Ability HyperLinks

Sczarni

Hey All! I'm kinda new at this, so bear with me please.

I've created a Qinggong-Something Monk's Guide to Weapon Finesse, and I'm looking for any assessments, constructive criticism, suggestions, and otherwise advice on making it more complete and as accurate as possible according to RAW(Rules-As-Written).

I realize the Dex/Weapon Finesse-based Monk is a tough thing to work with, but rewarding if done correctly. I really wanted to help others out with this, as I have been kind of wandering through books, forums, and mostly in the dark. I don't want other Monk-Lovers to feel this way, so I'm offering a short guide on what is and isn't good to Finesse as a Weaponized-Monk of ANY kind. I'd hate for Monk's to feel as if they are restricted to Monk weapons and/or Sohei archetype.

Thank you so much in advance, for anything you have to offer. I will respond to your questions/comments as soon as I can. Also, please let me know if the Link works... it's tricky using Google Drive here at work.

Edit: I'll also update the sheet on a daily basis if changes are pending.

Edit2: I should certainly have considered x3 and x4 weapons in the mix.

I'll definitely provide a List of Traits and List of Materials that both assist in making Finessable Weapons become even better.

Sczarni

So I've been trying to determine what I should combine my Qinggong-Flowing Monk with, in order to Flurry with an Elven Curve Blade(my GM allowed me to create a Deity that favored it if necessary).

I'm not sure if I should just go with 1 level of Crusader Cleric, 2 levels of Warpriest and 1 level of Cleric, 4 levels of Warpriest, or 4 levels of Sacred Fist. I want that Fervor/Sacred Weapon so bad, but at the same time one level of Crusader Cleric makes it so simple and means more Monk progression. Ugh

Which do you recommend?

We're running the Jade Regent AP and it'll probably get us to 15 at the maximum.

Here is what I'm trying to do, with a Dex/Wis build -
Weapon Finesse via Flowing Monk Bonus Feat.
Making ECB Flurryable with Crusader's Flurry feat.
Acquiring Channel Energy for Crusader's Flurry.
Acquiring Weapon Focus with ECB for Crusader's Flurry.
Proficiency with ECB.

All while still obtaining Snake Fang by level 9.

Right now my Standard Feats are mapped like so:
1 - Combat Reflexes
3 - Crusader's Flurry
5 - Snake Style
7 - Snake Sidewind
9 - Snake Fang

Bonus Feats are mapped like so:
Monk 1 - Weapon Finesse
Monk 2 - Unbalancing Counter
Cleric 1 - Weapon Focus(ECB)
Monk 6 - Combat Reflexes(then retrain my LvL1 Feat to Stand Still)

Class Abilities are mapped like so:
Monk 1 - Redirection, FoB, IUS
Monk 2 - Evasion
Cleric 1 - Aura, Channel Energy, Domain, Orisons
Monk 3 - Flowing Dodge, Maneuver Training, Still Mind
Monk 4 - Ki Pool(magic), Power Attack
Monk 5 - Elusive Target, Barkskin
Monk 6 - Nothing
Monk 7 - Ki Pool(Cold Iron/Silver), Ki Stand
Monk 8 - Nothing

Sczarni

A Crusader+Cleric/1 Qinggong-Flowing+Monk/8 asks for your help... what Domain should he choose?

He thinks it wise to choose Repose to stagger his opponents(reducing full attacks), or Luck to help him connect his hits better(or saves and many other d20 involvement for his teammates).

Sczarni

I'm a Dex/Wis Monk with:

Adamantine Elven Curve Blade +1 w/Keen 12k or so
Belt of Incredible Dexterity +2 4k
Feather Step Slippers 2k
Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier 5k
Headband of Inspired Wisdom +2 4k
Cloak of Resistance +1 1k
Ring of Deflection +2 8k

I still have 10k left to spend. What should I put it towards?

"I think I'd rather use Potions of Mage Armor until I can flat out purchase Bracers of Armor +4... and I'm not sure if I want Amulet of Natural Armor or Amulet of Mighty Fists +X... as I will be using Unarmed Strikes(through Snake Fang) as frequently as my Blade. That's a tough trade.. and I probably should have mentioned that in my previous post. My apologies."

Sczarni

Do the effect of Wands, IE Divine Favor or Mirror Image; go by the spell level of the Wand, or the Caster level of the User?

As in; If I were a level 9 Caster, and used UMD to wand Mirror Image on myself, would I gain 1d4 + 3 images, or just 1d4 + 1?

Sczarni

"Bit of Luck (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, giving it a bit of luck. For the next round, any time the target rolls a d20, he may roll twice and take the more favorable result. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier."

Let's say I use this ability at the start of Round 1. Does this ability function:

1. Only for my Next round?
2. For the remainder of this round, and for my entire next round?
3. Only for the remainder of this round?

If this functions how I think it does... it'll greatly help with Flurry of Blows.

Sczarni

Does the Wand Key Ring work with Wands to cast, say, Mirror Image? A wand can have a Spell Trigger too... right?

Sczarni

Will 27 AC/Touch suffice for a level 9 character in Rise of the Runelords?

Sczarni

Weapon Finesse + Levels of Monk + 1 level of Crusader Cleric worshipping Shizuru with bonus feat Weapon Focus[Katana] + Katana + Crusader's Flurry + 1 level of Swashbuckler + Slashing Grace[Katana].

Is this Legal[RAW]?
May I now flurry with something that doesn't stink?

I want to make an Unarmored Flowing Monk as damage decent as possible.

I wish there were a deity with the favored weapon of Elven Curve Blade >_<

Sczarni

As the title reads; What other Cleric Archetypes stack with Crusader?

Sczarni

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to cheese the game. I am however, wanting to know as to whether this is at all legal by RAW or RAI. I recently came from a thread that made me think about this.

Agile

Elven Curve Blade

Aldori Dueling Sword

The Elven Curve Blade is a two-handed weapon. It is finessable by it's wording. The Aldori Dueling Sword is a two-handed weapon. It is finessable by it's wording. With the Agile enchant, we can get our Dex to Damage using those.
They both qualify for that.

Using Power Attack, we can get 1.5x times the normal PA bonus; or -1 attack for +3 damage each 4 BAB instead of the normal -1/+2, for both of these weapons.
They also both qualify for this as well.

The part that is confusing to me, as I'm not too familiar with weapons since I usually roll with Unarmed characters or Casters, is the 1.5x Str option.

Question #1: When replacing Str for Dex bonus, by extension, does it work in conjunction with feats/abilities that offer a 1.5x Str bonus?

Per the Agile enchant, it states "A wielder with the Weapon Finesse feat can choose to apply her Dexterity modifier to damage rolls with the weapon in place of her Strength modifier. This modifier to damage is not increased for two-handed weapons, but is still reduced for off-hand weapons."

So immediately, I see that the Elven Curve Blade is completely disqualified for 1.5x Str - Even if the above question happens to be a "Yes".

Then I realize that it states "Two-Handed Weapons". The Aldori Dueling Sword is a One-Handed Weapon potentially wielded in two hands for the bonus.

Question #2: Does this qualify to gain the, by extension, 1.5x Str bonus when wielding in two hands?

With a +4 Dex Mod, +1 Magical Weapon for allowing Agile, Weapon Finesse, Agile, <Weapon>, Wielding 2-Handed, and Power Attack, the math could come out to:

Elven Curve Blade +1 w/Agile: 1d10 +4, +0(no 2H bonus), +1(Magical), +3 for PA = 1d10+8.

Aldor Dueling Sword +1 w/Agile: 1d8 +4, +2(no 2H bonus), +1(Magical), +3 for PA = 1d8+10

Question #3(if the above is qualified for RAW): Are these calculations correct?

Thank you for your time.

Flowing Monk Archetype for the Monk.
Description of ability also written at bottom of post.

(Scenario 1.) Let's assume I'm a level 1 to 3 Flowing Monk. Neither I nor my opponent have Reach. We are currently standing with 5 feet of space between us from one another. My opponent five foot steps in to me, and begins a full-attack. I immediately declare Redirection to take place, and I succeed on my Reposition attempt. I now push them 5 feet away from me, back to where they started.
***1. Does their standard attack still hit me before they're moved?
***2. What actions do they have left?
***3. If they never had to use a five foot step and started adjacent, what actions do they have left?

(Scenario 2.) Let's assume I'm a level 4 to 7 Flowing Monk. Neither I, my Ally, nor my opponent have Reach. My Ally and I are currently standing with 5 feet of space between us from one another. Our opponent is standing with 5 feet of space between us as well, away from both of us. My opponent five foot steps in to us, standing between us, close enough to have reach and threaten both of us, but not giving us flanking, and begins a full-attack. I immediately declare Redirection to take place, and I succeed on my Reposition attempt. I now push them 5 feet away from my Ally, but still within reach of myself.
***1. Does their standard attack still hit my Ally before they're moved?
***2. What actions do they have left vs my Ally?

*************************************************************************
Redirection (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, a flowing monk can attempt a reposition or trip combat maneuver against a creature that the flowing monk threatens and that attacks him. If the combat maneuver is successful, the attacker is sickened for 1 round (Reflex DC = 10 + 1/2 the monk’s level + monk’s Wisdom modifier to halve the duration), plus 1 additional round at 4th level and for every four levels afterward (to a maximum of 6 rounds at 20th level). The monk gains a +2 bonus on the reposition or trip combat maneuver check and the save DC for redirection increases by 2 if the attacker is using Power Attack or is charging when attacking him. The benefit increases to a +4 bonus and an increase of the saving throw by 4 if both apply.

At 4th level, a flowing monk can use redirection against an opponent that the flowing monk threatens and that attacks an ally with a melee attack. At 8th level, a flowing monk can make both a reposition and a trip maneuver as part of a single immediate action with this ability. At 12th level, a flowing monk can use redirection against any opponent that attacks him in melee, even if the flowing monk is not threatening the opponent who attacks him. A flowing monk can use this ability once per day per monk level, but no more than once per round. This ability replaces stunning fist.

1. What Deity is recommended for the Elven Curve Blade?

2. Is there a way to get Weapon Focus through a Race or Trait?

3. Is there a way to get Proficiency with Elven Curve Blade through a Trait?

I'd like to stick with a Vanaras race, but I have noticed Tengu is a great option since it would give me direct access to proficiency with the Elven Curve Blade. I'd still very much like to stick to Vanaras if possible though.

This would be for a Qinggong-Flowing-Sacred Mountain-Monk/1 + Cleric/1 w/Crusader's Flurry.

Sczarni

Hey guys. I've been wrapping this around my brain lately, and I've done a ton of research but I'm starting to really lose focus. I'm trying my best to really amp up the Static Damage of a solid Qinggong-Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain. I can take 1 or 2 levels dip at the most... but I really don't want to sully it up if I can help it.

Preferences:
Primary Dex, Secondary Wis, Tertiary Con.
Unarmed Strikes Only
Snake Style/Sidewind/Fang is a necessity.
AoMF +4 w/ Agile

Traits would probably be Bullied and Quain Martial Artist.

I've lost my mind over Feats at this point. Wonderous/Magic items are questionable as well. I know Strong Jaw is my best bet for more damage if I have someone to cast it on me. I just need to stack on damage as much as possible on this guy, preferably static primarily, and variable damage(dice) as secondary.

Could you guys please help me out? I feel like I'm in the middle of a desert without water here!

Sczarni

Could someone provide me with the strongest attack/damage combination possible for an Unarmed Strike build?
I don't really care what classes, I just want to be able to swing one Unarmed Strike, for big damage preferably as close to a 2H Weapon Wielder could do as a hulked out Barbarian and such.

Does this FAQ apply to the Advanced Class Guide as well?

Short Summary: There has been a lot of hubbub going on about certain features stacking or not stacking between normal classes and advanced classes from the advanced class guide, who's parent classes are unrelated;
ie 1. Flurry of Blows from Sacred Fist and Master of Many Styles Monk Levels for the purpose of determining the growth and overall strength of Flurry of Blows.
2. Whether or not Sacred Fist even gets Flurry of Blows, when mixed with Master of Many Styles(which gives up Flurry of Blows).
3. Zen Archer + Sacred Fist and how Flurry of Blows is calculated
4. Etc(feel free to contribute to the list so that I may edit it in if possible... I don't know all of them!)

It's a little confusing to me and concerning, as it does not reference the Advanced Class Guide, nor abilities relating to the Advanced Class Guide. It was also created before the Advanced Class Guide was created. Can we also apply this FAQ to the ACG? It makes me wonder why they even put the Parent Classes clause in when they could have just gone by this.

Sczarni

"Fervor: As a swift action, a warpriest can expend one use of this
ability to cast any one warpriest spell he has prepared. When
cast in this way, the spell can target only the warpriest, even
if it could normally affect other or multiple targets. Spells
cast in this way ignore somatic components and do not
provoke attacks of opportunity. The warpriest does not
need to have a free hand to cast a spell in this way.
"

Question: Does the use of Fervor merely "duplicate" a prepared spell, as a swift action, only on one's self; Or does it actually use the spell slot?

I really just cannot seem to wrap my head around this today.

My google-fu may have failed me and I apologize in advance if so... but to my point and question:

Has it ever been officially clarified as to how Pummeling Style truly works?(RAW)
I read the FAQ stating it is for use with Unarmed Strikes Only.
.
.
.
.
IE:
1. Vs an opponent using Riposte or Crane's Wing.
2. Whether or not Pummeling Style counts as an Action itself.
3. Vs an opponent using Snake Fang.
4. How damage multipliers interact with it.
5. How abilities like stunning fist or chilling touch work through it.
6. Whether or not it's multiple rolls, or multiple attack rolls.
7. ETC.

So I'm in the process of building a Race with 20RP maximum, as given to us by the GM. I'm looking at the Powerful Charge racial ability, and thinking about giving my character a weakness, so I can squeeze it in there. He's a Monk with the Outsider type. Would the Powerful Charge apply to my Unarmed Strike?

If it does, how would it interact with Pummeling Style + Pummeling Charge?

Silver Crusade

Could someone recommend as many Sense Motive enhancing abilities and wonderous/magic items as possible? I have maybe 10k gold and either a trait or feat I can swap out.

Silver Crusade

Blessed Fortitude (Su): At 3rd level, a sacred fist can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with help from his deity. If he succeeds at a Fortitude saving throw against an attack that has a reduced effect on a successful save, he instead avoids the effect entirely. A helpless sacred fist does not gain the benefit of the blessed fortitude ability. This ability replaces the bonus feat gained at 3rd level.

Does this mean that with Any attack that has any sort of "Reduced Effect on a successful save" I have the chance of avoiding it Entirely?

That seems... rather powerful.

So I finished my first Scenario, #79, The Half-Dead City.

I understand how the XP works, as that whole session was worth 3, and I can now move on to level 2. What I don't understand, is the items listed below, the Fame, Prestige, and Starting GP.

*************************************************************************** *****
For the Boons listed:
Do I choose one and cross off the other; and it's permanently active throughout every session for that character?
*************************************************************************** *****
For the Items Listed:
Do I gain all of this gold value? Do I gain one item of choice and sell it back for the GP value? Do I just ignore this section? I don't really know what to do here.

Scarab Shield - 4399GP
Akhentepi's Armor - 5235GP
Potion of Darkvision - 300GP
Potion of Lesser Restoration - 300GP
Ring of Protection +1 - 2000GP
Silversheen - 250GP
*************************************************************************** *****
Prestige:
I've gained 4. What exactly does Prestige do and how do I use it?
*************************************************************************** *****
Starting GP:
I assume this is how much GP I've gathered in that session. Does this add to the total from the items? Is there some merchant I can use this at?
*************************************************************************** *****
Overall for Upgrading Items:
Currently I don't have anything really, aside from some potions. I really need to acquire an AoMF with Agile on it. How do I go about doing this? Is there some special listing I can look at that let's me know about available items for PFS?
*************************************************************************** *****

Sorry for the barrage of questions, I'm just fairly new to this sort of thing, and it's my first PFS experience.

Hey everyone. I'll make this quick and simple:

Could you please post all of your Pummeling Style complaints and questions here?
I'm trying to gather them all and throw them into one big FAQ later today. I see more and more things pop up every day in regards to Pummeling Style and it really seems this Style Feat has opened up a nice-sized can of worms.

Debates on various things relating to Pummeling Style are welcome too, but please list your questions/complaints First, preferably in an Organized List.

For now, my concerns are how it interacts with other abilities:

1. What happens when a 2H weaponized high-crit character attempts to use it?
2. What happens when it's used vs a character or NPC with Snake Fang?
3. What happens when it's used vs a character or NPC trying to use Crane Wing or Swashbuckler's Parry?
4. When using this ability for a full-attack involving a substitute of a trip, or stunning fist, or touch attack; Does a "miss" on an ability still qualify it to land a stun/trip/touch on the "one big punch" that connects in the end? Does one touch attack make the whole thing a touch attack?

Please populate this thread with as many viable and preferably "grey-area" questions as possible, so that I can list all of them in a FAQ.

Silver Crusade

Let's say I combine several levels of Sacred Fist and Druid.

Is taking the Natural Spell feat a necessity to cast Divine Spells from the Warpriest's list while in Wild Shape?

Silver Crusade

This is my first time doing Gestalt... so far I've got a MoMS-MoSM-Monk/2, Sacred Fist/6, Serene Barbarian/2... and I've got 2 more levels that I can take.

This guy is definitely a fist fighter(dex/wis based) with a lot of free/swift actions for quick and easy buffs/heals. Right now he's only rocking a 1d8+2d6+21 for damage, and a +21/+21/+16 attack sequence. He's got Dragon/Snake/Pummeling Style and Snake Fang with Pummeling Charge equipped on him too.

His HP is 78... and AC at 39 with mage armor on him.(keeps potions on him).

What other 2 levels of another class should I take? Perhaps 2 more levels of Monk for the Ki Pool? I'm at a loss on what would combine well with this.Should I drop 2 levels of Warpriest and take 4 levels of Druid with Shaping Focus?

Soaring Assault (major): "At 10th level, you can touch an ally and give her the gift of flight for 1 minute (as fly). The ally gains a fly speed of 60 feet with average maneuverability. She gains a bonus on Fly skill checks equal to your level. Whenever the ally succeeds at a charge attack while flying, that attack deals an amount of additional electricity damage equal to your level."

If someone happens to have Pounce in some way shape or form, or for that matter Pummeling Charge/Style; Would this apply to the First attack, or All of them?

IE:
Scenario 1. I touch myself(hehe). I begin to hover, and can now fly at 60 feet with average maneuverability and a bonus to fly equal to my level. I charge with Pounce. Do I receive electric damage equal to my level per attack during my full-attack? Or does it only apply on the first attack?

Scenario 2. I touch myself(huehue). I begin to hover, and can now fly at 60 feet with average maneuverability and a bonus to fly equal to my level. I am in Pummeling Style, and I use Pummeling Charge. Do I receive electric damage equal to my level per attack during my full-attack? Or does it only apply on the first attack(or for that matter, Only attack, aka One Big Punch as described by Pummeling Style)?

For those of you who haven't seen the responses so far in regards to AC Bonus from Monk/Sacred Fist:

I find these two responses rather important, but unfortunately neither of them necessarily account for RAW. I hope this helps whomever, at whatever PFS table, or otherwise.

Response from Dale McCoy Jr(President of Jon Brazer Enterprises and Designer of Sacred Fist Archetype) 09/19/2014
"If a player in a game I was running asked me if they wanted to play a warpriest/monk, I'd allow the stacking. IMO, you are still giving up some class abilities of the monk when you are taking warpriest levels and the same is true with the reverse. This archetype allows them to harmonize well, in the same way that many PrCs allow for multiclass harmonization.

But that is how I would rule it at my table. I'm not sure how the people at Paizo will decide for PFS."

Response from James Jacobs(Creative Director) 09/10/2014
"I cannot imagine anything other than these bonuses overlapping. Stacking would be too ridiculous.

But that said, like all rulebook questions, it's better asked over there than here."

If you can spare the time, please go to my FAQ Request and give a FAQ click.

There is also another Thread, related on a more global level, Here, started by Xaratherus, that certainly needs the FAQ clicks as well.

Please support!

Strength Surge (minor): At 1st level, as a swift action you can focus your own strength. You gain an enhancement bonus equal to 1/2 your warpriest level (minimum +1) on melee attack rolls, combat maneuver checks that rely on Strength, Strength-based skills, and Strength checks for 1 round.

Does this help bypass DR Magic/Cold Iron/Silver/Adamantium/Alignment?

Silver Crusade

What Minor and Major blessing would you recommend for a MoMS-MoSM-Monk/2+Sacred Fist Warpriest/10?

I'm currently Lawful Neutral... but Alignment can always change depending on what I do throughout the campaign. So I guess just pretend Alignment restriction doesn't matter in this case; Though I'd like to stray from anything Evil.

Silver Crusade

Am I allowed to use a Swift Action before or after a Full- Attack?

In Example:
I'm a Sacred Fist! I use my Fervor to cast Divine Favor. I then use Pummeling Charge/Style to charge to my opponent and deliver a hopefully devastating Full-Attack(Flurry 4 times or something, with IUS).

What does the Spell, Freedom of Movement, actually prevent?

Freedom of Movement
Source PRPG Core Rulebook pg. 287 (Amazon)
School abjuration; Level alchemist 4, bard 4, cleric/oracle 4, druid 4, hunter 4, inquisitor 4, investigator 4, ranger 4, skald 4, warpriest 4
Casting
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a leather strip bound to the target), DF
Effect
Range personal or touch
Target you or creature touched
Duration 10 min./level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
Description
This spell enables you or a creature you touch to move and attack normally for the duration of the spell, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement, such as paralysis, solid fog, slow, and web. All combat maneuver checks made to grapple the target automatically fail. The subject automatically succeeds on any combat maneuver checks and Escape Artist checks made to escape a grapple or a pin.

The spell also allows the subject to move and attack normally while underwater, even with slashing weapons such as axes and swords or with bludgeoning weapons such as flails, hammers, and maces, provided that the weapon is wielded in the hand rather than hurled. The freedom of movement spell does not, however, grant water breathing.

Does this cover Stun, Prone, Daze, etc?

Silver Crusade

How exactly does Protection from Evil work?

Is the +2 Ac/Saves only vs Evil creatures, or is it active vs any alignment?

I think I understand parts 2 and 3 of the spell.

It will be for the campaign The Mummy's Mask: The Half-Dead City 1 of 3. It'll be my second ever PFS session! Likely his personality will be rather goofy, headstrong, suspicious of others, free-spirited, rather raunchy and somewhat disrespectful, forgetful, and involve a lot of pelvic thrusting in combat.

He will run with his first two levels being Sacred Fist. At level 3 and 4 he will take two levels of Qinggong/Terra-Cotta/Master of Many Styles Monk, then return to pure Warpriest levels afterwards.

His prepared Spells will be:
Level 0 - Resistance
Level 0 - Detect Magic
Level 0 - Detect Poison
Level 1 - Divine Favor
Level 1 - Divine Favor

Inventory:
Potion of Cure Light Wounds x2
Potion of Mage Armor x10(using 504 Gold from a previous Brawler toon)

I'll update(without spoilers) how he played out sometime tomorrow morning!

Silver Crusade

Could anyone recommend 1 Trait to help me out as a Sacred Fist Warpriest?

Preferably something with +attack if possible. I'm a Human if it matters.
