Irabeth smiles.
"I would feel dishonest if I take the sword back, as I exchanged it for something I still value, even more than my father's sword. So I, and I am sure my father also, would be extremely proud if any of you use it to fight Abyss."
She seems to look Darya's eyes and winks at her.

Madame Mvashti smiles...
"It means he did not return to Sandpoint by coincidence. It was a stroke of luck, for us. He returned to face Nualia. He returned to fulfill his, and her, destiny."
She extends a hand towards the middle card.
"An this... what the future holds... there are more to this. There is a giant force playing with all of us. With Nualia, with Sandpoint, with you all... But right now you must go and save us before we discovering what follows. That is life, we dream a dream each night."
Finally, she slumps in her chair.
"M'ara, my daughter, do you feel like reading the cards to Anton Ionescu? He has many questions, and his heart is troubled by someone. Maybe you can help him."

In fact she left her reading with Madame Mvashti halfway. She does have time to go finish it, she could even take all or some of the others with her.

"THIS ought to even the odds! Take what you can use, and we'll make this battle worthy of a song!"

Arloric starts to imagine a song. The Inheritor is always next to you, helping you. Not just when you are in the first line fighting the hordes of hell. Even when you are just digging trenches. Just cooking or serving meals. Even if just cleaning latrines. She is always next to you, helping you, shoulder to shoulder. We all are in this together. We all are in this with her. He thinks what a song like that, what a message like that, can do for the crusade's morale. What he can do, with his song, with his word, with his actions, for the crusade.

Aberus Ocellio wrote:
He looks around at his friends, then back to the altar. Quietly, he says, "I had forgotten...", his voice trailing off. He stares down at the floor, and for a brief moment, he seems ashamed before lifting his head back up. "It seems we are on the right path."

Aberus feels transformed. He feels... reborn. He has faced the worst that the abyss had to throw at him, and almost... almost... destroyed him. Almost brought him down. Almost make him fail. Almost made him lose his faith.

But he is here now. Now he KNOWS! In his heart, forged by stress, despair, and loss, now he knows. He might die in this war, but he won't falter again.
He will never falter. He will never stop.
He will be the light that shines and banish the darkness.

Telerin Quenya wrote:
Though not a follower of the Inheritor, laws often get in the way of doing the right thing, she still appreciates the experience of having the Inheritor bless their endeavors.

Telerin knows the Inheritor won't win this war. Even with all her might and power, she is not nearly enough. She won't save the world. Telerin, and her companions, will have to rise and do it by themselves. All of the crusade will have to stand up. To rise up, and defeat evil. By themselves. But is nice to know they are not alone. That they have friends. Powerful friends. Friends willing to help them in their righteous battle.

But is their battle, and Telerin knows she has what it takes to win it. That they all have what it takes to win it.

Darya Flamekissed wrote:
"That was definitely something special." she says helping Uriel with the buckles of his armor.

Uriel turns and his face shows wonder and surprise. Darya doesn't understand why, and why everybody else reacts the same when they see her until she looks herself in a shield's reflexion.

A halo. A divine halo. She has been crowned by the blessing of heaven.
And she remembers it now. That night. That ritual. How her halo protected her and helped her escape with her friends.
And even if the halo almost disappears in the next few minutes (and is only visible in the dark and if you pay very close attention) she knows that halo is always there. That she is truly been blessed. That she is a champion of good, to the day she dies.
That her righteous wrath will bring hell to its knees.

Uriel Aurelius wrote:
”Lady Darya, would you mind helping me get this off?” he says, gesturing to the lamellar armor he is wearing currently.

His new armor fits him perfectly. Never in his life, he imagined and armor could feel like this. Not hard and cold, chafing your skin and hindering your movements, but warm and soft like the embrace of your mother while protecting you from the cold, from the rain, from any danger.

It had his name emblazoned on it. He imagines it centuries from now, being found in a splendid tomb, or in the site of an ancient battle, or in the place of honor of a huge cathedral. He imagines those people in the future seeing the armor. Admiring it. Reading his name from it.
He must make really sure his deeds, his victories, and his sacrifices, are worth the gift he has just been given.

Alexa Dorne wrote:
She eventually snorts. "Well, while you're goggling over all that, I'm going to go get some actual work done. This place isn't going to scout itself." Alexa turns on her heel and stalks off into the shadows.

Alexa turns the corner away from the others and has to lean on the wall.

Her knees are shaking.
Why her knees are shaking?
She saw the mysterious woman's eyes. She really saw them. The others were blind to her. Blind because of her power. Because of their own beliefs. Alexa REALLY saw her eyes. She really saw what she was.
She was not a divine sword. She was not a powerful god of war and destruction and law.
She was a mother. She was a sister. She was a daughter. A mother grieving for her tortured, murdered and mutilated children. A sister picking up the pieces of the brothers she loved and cared for. A daughter trying to give them a proper burial.
The Templars of Kenabres... the crusade as a whole. To her, they are not a weapon. They are not expendable.
They are her family. She grieves for each one of those that fall. Like a mother. Like a sister. Like a daughter.
Just like her.

It takes some time, but it happens. In the end all of your characters, for piety, for respect for the dead, or for finishing as quickly as possible so you can continue with your mission, helped cleaning the shrine.
They moved the body parts away and made a small prayer for the rest of their owner's souls.
They righted the altar table and washed it away as well as they could.
And as they went along, they felt the air changing, getting fresher and cleaner. It seemed like that shrine got more light at each minute. Like something evil, weighting the whole place down, disappeared with the desecration your characters cleaned up.
They felt like they were doing something worth doing.
And there was something else. Your characters didn't really notice it at the moment, but in the next days, when camping and resting, they would be back to talk about it. About the woman that helped them.
Tall, beautiful, clad in pristine full plate armor.
She was there taking the body parts away, sad and respectful.
She helped, with her big strength, to put the altar in place.
Somehow, you are not sure how she repaired the statues.
And she smiled, at least once, to each of your characters, almost shyly, when their eyes met.
She never spoke to them. And they somehow didn't react to her mysterious appearance, to her impossible appearance, as if she would have been there, with them, all along, as another comrade in arms. Only Uriel Aurelius, once, when facing her, kneeled with tears in his face, transfixed in religious fervor, after which she helped him stand up and continue cleaning.
And all your characters think they know who she was. But they don't dare say her name. The inheritor's name.
After they finished, they all kneeled in front of the altar (even if their first time doing it), the mysterious woman at the front, and prayed (even if your characters had never prayed before).
Your characters had never felt anything like that. That sense of communion. Of purpose. Of being in the front line of the only battle worth fighting, alongside the righteous, sharing their wrath against evil.
They felt they prayed for ages, for eons, forever. But as far as they know they only spent 10 minutes, at most, cleaning the shrine and praying. Even if it felt like a lifetime. Like several lifetimes. As impossible as that is.
When they finished praying, the woman was gone, as if she had never been there. Because she never was. Because she always is.
And the secret door was open.
-------------------------
Hidden Armory
This small chamber is free of dust. A holy symbol of Iomedae hangs unmolested on the wall above a weapon rack filled with swords, crossbows, and spears. Three wooden dummies wear pristine suits of armor. A shelf holds several leather quivers, each stamped with a golden sun. Two silver shields hang from pegs on the wall.
The weapon rack contains three cold iron longswords, two cold iron shortswords, two heavy crossbows, a composite longbow ( +2 Str), a masterwork cold iron heavy mace, two cold iron longspears, 50 cold iron crossbow bolts, 1oo cold iron arrows, a +1 longsword, 5 +1 holy arrows, and an arrow of evil outsider slaying.
The armor dummies hold two sets of masterwork chainmail and a +1 breastplate emblazoned with Iomedae's holy symbol.
The two heavy steel shields are both marked with the holy symbol of Iomedae. One is a masterwork shield, and the other is a +1 blinding shield.
And something else. Whatever Uriel Aurelius gets from this loot, it is emblazoned with his name.

Darya moves up to flank with kelly, and between the two warriors pierce the tiefling's sides at the same time, pinning him in place.
A grimace of pain, the tiefling grabs his remaining bombs, slowly, ready to explode them in an explosion that will take him out, together with Kelly and Darya.
And in that moment Alexa appears and pierce his neck, killing him, and preventing him from comtleting his blaxxe of glory.
Combat over!
Let me check the loot later on today, but you can tell me what your characters do now that the combat is over.

I loved Darya's post, great description for her 20!

Got it, Telerin only gets 1 point of fire damage.
Aberus jumps to avoid the splashing fire while Sario feels the burning liquid sears her and charred her dress but escaping unarmed. They both turn to look at Telerin, worried. They see her in the middle of the vanishing flames that cover her like a power halo instead of a destroying force. A sight to be seen!
------------------
Alexa and Arlorin attack their flanked cultist at the same time, with such bad luck that their attacks stop each other, preventing them to connect a solid hit. Sario also joins the attack without success. The cultist chuckles.
"That is the best you can do? Glory to Baphomet!"
He attacks Alexa again!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
But misses again! Halflings are sure hard to hit!
-------------
Uriel misses Darya's attacker, but a second later a Cold Iron Sword pierces the cultist's chest, as Darya impales and kills him. 2 cultists remaining...
-------------
Kelly tries a sidestep, rolling, to avoid an attack of opportunity from the cultist protecting the tiefling leader... but he is expecting something like that, and manages to attack her AoO.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9
Then the tiefling is ready for her, preparing to intercept her... but she is not there! She manages to change her direction in a moment and catch the tiefling unawares again, hurting him!
The cultist tries to cut Kelly again his normal attack!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7
The tiefling eyes widen, fear and doom showing in his eyes. He takes another 5' step back from Kelly and throws a bomb at Darya, making sure the splash gets all the melee combatants in the splash range.
Attack (touch): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 3d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) + 2 = 12
Darya DC 14 Reflex save for half damage and avoiding catching fire. Kelly, Alexa, Arlorin, Sario and Uriel roll for half splashing damage, 6 damage if you fail, 3 if you pass the reflex save.
Both the cultist get in the area of effect!
Save 1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
Save 1: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13
The cultist that was protecting the tiefling (and is next to Kelly) gets burn!
A second later a splash of acid barely misses the tiefling but increases his unnerving look.
Aberus asks for Sarenrae's aid in this fight, but the unholy presence of the grotesque altar in the room feels like a miasma of evil preventing his boons to materialize. Something must be done about it!
Everyone heals 2 HP
YOUR TURN!
Quick "Theather of the mind" guide:
- One cultist is surrounded by Alexa, Arlorin, and Sario.
- The other is next to Kelly.
- Kelly has a free line to the tiefling, 5' away.
- Uriel and Darya could go and attack any of the cultists, or try to pass a cultist - with AoO - and reach the tiefling.
- Telerin and Aberus and in the rearguard.

Miss Stella Scarnetti, "chelaxian" noblewoman, is now dressed in Varisian garb, including some soft but sturdy slippers. She looks beautiful, not only because of the colorful and youthful varisian dress but also because of herself. She seems to be glowing, smiling profusely at the new friends and experiences she is having for the first time.
"Thank you so much for all you are doing for me. I'll ask my brother to reward you for everything you have done."
She hugs M'ara warmly.
Lucky Pete, a wide innocent smile on his face tells her: "You look very pretty, miss!"
For the rest of the day, she walks arm in arm with Olga Bâlan, now best friends.

The woman and the man lie in the almost darkness of their bedroom. She quietly and slowly rises from the bed. She is naked, and she is beautiful as an angel, white hair on white skin.
But her eyes are red, smoldering with hate and fury.
She kneels before an unholy altar with the figure on a pregnant humanoid monster in the middle and starts praying silently.
Her scream wakes up the man, a half-elf with strange tian features. He looks in horror as her arm starts to boil and mutate as if rotting of burning with no apparent reason. He stands frozen, not knowing what to do.
After a minute the arm is no longer human. A demonic claw now protrudes from a monstrous appendage.
The woman smiles savagely under her tears.
"She has blessed me! It is time to make the burnt offering to her! Now it is time to destroy Sandpoint!"
She starts to laugh maddingly.

=================================================

@Anton Chauvelle: As he is not pressed about money, Anton decides to find a good group of traveling Varisians, and drink his way up the Lost Coast. Good times.
There are two groups of Varisians that seem promising. One has three wagons, they are about 15 people, and seems very "musically inclined". There are a couple of pretty varisian girls there, but they seem very... chaste... at first sight. They have small children too, so maybe the party options are somewhat limited.
On the other hand, there is a small group of 6 varisians too. And 2 of those are very beautiful ones that seem, at first glance, "receptive" to a foreigner joining them. They all are young, fit and already a little drunk. They seem to travel light, with no carts or wagons, carrying all they need on their persons.
Anton goes into "party mode". Now he has to choose his crowd.

=================================================

@Anton Ionescu: Still a little bit hungover after your goodbye party with your old comrades, you quickly find job guarding a noble going to Sandpoint. He seems a nice enough fellow, by the name Aldern Foxglove. He provides you with a horse for you to escort him (he will ride too), as well as 5 sp for your services as "valet" (whatever that is) and bodyguard.
"Unless is one of those beauties..." - he says eyeing a couple of varisian women that will make the voyage too.
First, you think you know what kind of woman they are, and yes, your employer is the kind of man that they like to "accompany" on the nights of long voyages, for a price, of course.
You can't say you approve but it is too frequent for it to bother you.
But wait... one of those women. Is that Nan?
Nan, the girl you used to play as a child in Sandpoint?
But you return to reality when Aldern starts talking to a pretty Varisian woman.
- "My name is Aldern Foxglove. And I love to have beautiful women attending me on my trips. May I ask your name?"
She doesn't seem like a "professional". But that, sometimes, is the way to know she is VERY professional.
You can add the 5 sp to your founds. Will you look for the woman, and see if it is the girl you think she is? What has become of her, anyway? And yes, the woman Aldern is talking to is Etna.

=================================================

@Delin Chiri: One book, or more exactly, one piece of a book. That was all you needed. The theories and ideas in it were short of the work of a genius. Most of the things that don't make sense about Thassilon he analyzes as if he knew. As if he understood them. But the book was very damaged (and it seems damaged on purpose), and you were told the only way to find it completely was looking for the author, which is still alive and living in Sandpoint. Brodert Quink.
That is why you find yourself walking alongside all of these people, which seems are going for a cathedral consecration while ignoring all the history under their feet.
Wait, is that Ulfen in the caravan you arrived into Magnimar?
You only know Lief by sight, and you are traveling by yourself for now. We can roleplay how you meet, and interact, with the others.

=================================================

@Etna Venus Van Ash: You arrive at the caravan looking for work, and a couple of minutes after you start looking, you find something. He looks rich, he has a wide smile, and he is attractive. Young, but not too young. Worldly, but not too worldly. Rich, but not too rich. You have had dreams with nobles like him.
- "My name is Aldern Foxglove. And I love to have beautiful women attending me on my trips. May I ask your name?"
His guard, a young varisian, quickly turns to eye you suspiciously.
Is it your choice if you want to work for Aldern or not, and the "extent" of your services to him. And yes, the Guard is Anton Ionescu, not that Etna knows him.

=================================================

@Lief Stoutspear: The job is simple. Whatever gets near the carriage, you kill it. No one, except for the old lady and the two old drivers, is to be allowed within 10 feet of it. Under any circumstance. 1 gold piece is waiting for you in Sandpoint if you all arrive there, on that condition. Easy.
What is in the carriage? Gold, probably. And some nobleman's virgin daughter, you imagine, as they take food in at regular intervals, and a pot out in the mornings.
Nothing that worries you too much.
And when you arrive at Sandpoint, well, your father once told you a history about a battle with some goblins there, where he saved Daviren Hosk's life. Maybe he can give you a job there.
You are getting well paid (but not too much). You are the only guard for the carriage that you are aware of. Whoever hired you (you didn't ask, they didn't tell) has money, but is cheap. You were given a horse for the journey.

=================================================

@Livia Taviskin: The Abbess calls you to her quarters. They are not like a cell of a cleric in other religions, with naked walls and grey ceilings. This one is filled with color and beauty. Drawings, music sheets, figurines... The home of a Shelyn follower.
"Sister Livia, thanks for coming. A new cathedral will be consecrated in the town of Sandpoint, and we would like you to go and sing at the ceremony. It is a long journey, but hardship makes for the most beautiful of art. One of the founding families of the town has made a big donation to us, and we want to answer his request. Please look for House Kaijitsu in Sandpoint, and give them our thanks."
As soon as in known she will go to Sandpoint, an extended family of Varisian travelers asks her to join them. They have three wagons, are little more than a dozen people, and are Shelyn followers.
You join them?

=================================================

@M'ara: Your "readings" have made an impact, and you even got a letter of recommendation addressed to Madame Mvashti, and elder Varisian woman of some fame living at Sandpoint, who, you are told, can help you improve "your act". In fact, the old varisian woman that gave you the letter implied that you could be able to do much more than just "pretend" to make readings, and that keep performing them "for a show" was a waste of your "real talents". They also referred you to caravan departing soon to Sandpoint (there seems to be a festival of sorts soon there, and many people are traveling in that direction) that she can join.
"The lost coast if not for traveling alone." - The woman tells you.
Shivi, later on, makes you know your future lies north. At Sandpoint.
So you join the caravan, not as a worker, but also not as a "passenger".

=================================================

@The Magician, Zomeraand: No one really interesting in the travel group. Varisian families, chelaxian nobles, a dumb city boy about to be robbed by some Sczarni women. Everything you expected to find on your first solo trip.
Except for her.
A half-elf, obviously... but not a "look at me I am so pretty" half-elf. She really looks intelligent. The book fragment she has doesn't seem old but is it damaged. She writes and writes as if her life depended on it.
Why is she going into Sandpoint? It is a mystery. Is it a mystery worth resolving?
Travelling by yourself, for now. We can roleplay how you meet, and interact, with the others.

Later today or tomorrow I will open the Gameplay thread so you can do some "warm-up" before the start of the voyage to Sandpoint.

You are right! I put the two normal traits and forgot we have 3 in this campaign. Based on the "speed is everything" ethos of Eyota, she would get the Vexing Defender Campaign Trait. Her Acrobatics Skill gets to 11 (that sounds nice!) and gains +4 AC when moving in threatened squares of bigger creatures than her. Thanks for the heads up.

@Etna Venus Van Ash: Nice. Let me know when ready.

@Seamus Lightfoot: My loss. Congratulations, I hope we game together some other time.

@Slayde77: Sorry to hear that. Maybe some other time.

@Anton Ionescu: What would we do without the elf girls? Change it if you want, but see Zomeraand's point, I thought the same thing.

@The Magician, Zomeraand: I thought the same thing: "The first thing we will need to do is choose the nicknames for the Antons." I was also thinking of all the comedy the campaign can have with the naming confusion. "- We came to arrest that Anton warrior fellow!" "- But it's not me!" "- Nice try, Anton! Come along!" :D

@Anton Ionescu: I think your Init is +8. AC 19/18. Flat-Footed 17/16. Varisian is his mother's tongue, so feel free to get another one. Sounds weird, but there is another Anton submitted...

@Gyorgy Elberion: Now that I check, Varisian Tattoo is not a valid trait. And you are missing the Campaign Trait anyway. Can you change it? How does he know so many languages? I think the list should be Common (Chelish), Varisian (Mother's) and Elven (Int). Stealth I think is -2. I think you are missing your Favored Class Bonus. A recommendation... Knowledge (Nobility) will have very few uses in the Campaign.

@Seamus Lightfoot: I think you are missing your Favored Class Bonus.

@Anton Chauvelle: As Varisian is your mother's language, feel free to pick another language. I also think you should have one more gold coin. Sounds weird, but there is another Anton submitted...

@The Magician, Zomeraand: Shouldn't you have 32 more gold coins? And Will ST +3.

For the record, I don't mind if all the party characters are fighters or sorcerers. Or lack a cleric. It is better if we get a balanced party, but I am more interested in great characters than in filling up "slots".

@Anton Ionescu: Excellent. Looking good, just need background info in the profile and you are ready.

@Vrog Skyreave: I think so.... but... Int 8... Can I recommend making her at least "normal" (Int 10)?

@Kar-ak Val-kan: It wouldn't be a presidential advisor as he has no "force of personality" to make his point across in a discussion or debate. As you say, it is somebody that doesn't like to stand up. A follower. The one that quietly works and lets others take credit for it. Not "adventurer" material if you ask me. But I have to say, any ability in -2 would make me think the character is not "hero" material. But that is just me, anyone can make his own characters how they see fit. I think you made your point, and I got no more questions.

"A new cathedral!"
You haven't been at Sandpoint in many years (or ever) but the news of the consecration of the new cathedral, on the Swallowtail Festival day, convinces you to go be there. You pack your few belongings, say goodbye to your friends and family, and get ready for the long journey up the lost coast.
You couldn't imagine that it would be the most important decision of your life.

Welcome
Welcome to my recruitment to the "Rise of the Runelords" Adventure Path.
I have mastered this AP a couple of times, on Maptools, and this will be my first time on the Paizo Boards. So I wouldn't mind some help with the forums now and then.
I have been playing Role Playing Games for a long time and Pathfinder since the beginning. I am somewhat "rules-light", and love to have a good time with the players.
English is not my first language, so if you notice some weird grammar or got questions, please let me know.

Submissions
I am looking for 6 players, wanting to have a good time. No matter if they are veterans or novices.
I hope we can get a nice pace, posting once every workday, and at least one on the weekends.
The version will be Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition with Pathfinder 1st Edition Rules.
Please post the character idea and backstory, a reason for going to the new cathedral consecration, the character's religious beliefs, the character sheet, and a couple of lines about you as a player.
The characters will start the adventure while leaving Magnimar en route to Sandpoint. If they want they can go as a group, it is ok. Or go solo. If they want to work as guards, rangers or porters to a caravan on the way, it is ok too.

Characters
* 20 Points buy
* Maximum Hit Points and Gold for your class.
* 2 traits, one of which will be a campaign trait
* Sources: Core Rulebook, Advanced Player’s Guide and the Players Guide only.
* Fair warning - I don't like gunslingers. "Eastern" Classes will need a good justification.
* Will be VERY hard for evil or chaotic neutral characters to get selected
* If your characters are from Sandpoint, they have not been there in many years.[/list]

Dates
The deadline for the submissions is October 27th, and I hope we can start playing on November 1st.
Please feel free to ask any questions or make any comments you want.
Let's play!
