I very, very much need to make custom minis for this adventure!

I've been tinkering with some custom minis for this scenario, Settling Accounts is so full of ideas within it to jump off the page and bring to life.

I take it this is the 2nd ed release of the skinwalker? Just curious if this is an updated version of that.

Goblins even more so.

My halfling character has pointed ears. I care not for such retcons!

It's not a retcon, I think Tar-Baphon altered reality. Halflings around Golarion went to bed with pointy ears and, after Siege of Gallowspire, woke up with round ears.

I'm here at Gencon and before it's over and I can meet with someone, I need to get my hands on SFS Gencon boon #5, Tune Bot 2000. I might still be able to get one with another prize booth trip but in case I don't, I would love to meet and trade something before the con is over.

I think that in high tier the first encounter can be worse than the second. The golem is likely to go down very quickly. The duppies have lunge, flyby attack and no reason to ever stay anywhere they might take a full attack from anyone. Nearly 250hp of incorporeal enemies where for most of the time you might largely be limited to making single readied attacks makes for a grind fest.

I didn't have too bad of a timing issue with the first encounter. But both times it was due to melee and ranged speciality players being well prepared with adamantine when reaching higher levels regardless of what mission they go on and those being familiar with the previous Gloomspires adventures expecting to run into undead and ready to stomp some dead-heads of various kinds.

That was my favorite twist to the story, the players hardly spending much time at all in the Gloomspires and Sevenfinger's legendary treasure vault being a bit of an empty room.

And despite the challenges in time management in GMing this in upper tier that I've ran into, I still enjoyed prepping it so much that I had to make a special prop to use in my presentation.

I have had multiple issues with how long this scenario can take to run in upper tier. To those GMs who had their tables wrap up in typical 4 or 5 hours, you have my envy and appreciation of you sharing your experience in these forum comments. If your table had a well optimized group that can dish out lots of damage in quick order, that helps immensely to get through the scenario in normal time. But if you happen to have a group that is a pastiche of whatever character they used when they played the other Gloomspires scenarios, it can be a drawn out, lengthy adventure when the combined result isn't exactly a hard-hitting power team. Of course using a character that played the other Gloomspires scenarios is by no means a requirement, but the bigger story is quite the fan favorite that there are many that want their participation to continue with said character. The main concerns running high tier in a 4 to 5 hour slot I have are first, there just straight out is no time to run the optional encounter. And by reading through the earlier comments, this issue has hit other GMs. Absolutely, fighting a dragon in a scenario is cool as all hell, and the one in this adventure isn't even the final boss!. My other concern is the drastic increase from 3 Leng spiders to 12 when jumping from low tier to high. I mean, with 12 air walking, spell resistance large enemies to take on, that one fight takes forever. All of the other high tier encounters are reasonably challenging but the spider cave fight is more than a tad ridiculous. With selective chatacter planning, the right table of players can certainly make it through just fine. Or maybe a table of all level 11 barbarians and paladins with plenty of fly potions and adamantine ghost-touch weapons.

Please don't interpret my comments as disliking the scenario. I do think it is a well written story and a fine, entertaining conclusion to the Sempet Sevenfingers saga (or maybe the story ISN'T quite over?). But from a combat encounter planning standpoint, I believe you need to have longer than the usual 5 hour scenario slot to run upper tier just in case.

Yeah, structure damage would be a very logical answer to the atmosphere answer.

As for Jadnura's waste expulsion in his environment suit, I'm going to answer, "Magic" if that question comes up at the table.

The captain mentions somewhere that he left Jadnura there with extra oxygen tanks.

Yeah, that's the most mention of Jadnura's situation I found in the scenario text. I can't imagine the temple was inhabitated at one time (albeit centuries ago) and the acolytes had to roam the halls in environment suits. Jadnura's extra oxygen tanks would do him well if he wanted to take a stroll around the asteroid landscape but to say he was planning on staying in the suit the whole time in an airless setting? How does he eat, expel bodily waste, etc? Perhaps part of his meditation regime would include fasting, I guess. Well, he is supposed to be quite the badass solarion...

I have some questions about parts B and C.

In the optional encounter for part B, is there no four player adjustment?

In part C, is there atmosphere and normal gravity within the temple? I can't imagine Jadnura had a plan to reside there for weeks in just his environment suit.

The Exchange

I've got questions about part B and C.

Spoiler:
In the optional encounter part B, is there no four player adjustment for the solar wisp fight?

In part C, is it assumed the interior of the temple has atmosphere? I can't imagine that Jadnura's plan was to meditate at the temple for a few weeks while residing entirely in his environment suit.

Oh snap! Everyone, I have made a pretty big faux pas here. I recently leveled up my inquisitor and I thought I hit level 5 with that character but it was really just level 4. But I do have a level 5 bard/investigator ready to go and commit through to the end if that would be okay to swap him in place of the inquisitor. He's got lots of languages and very well topped out on knowledge skills in addition to the standard bard's inspire courage singing. He also serves as an okay second string healer (he has also been the primary healer on more than one occasion!).

I apologize for the mixup.

The Exchange

So our level 7 players will get out of tier gold regardless of upper or lower tier and Deadîn is level 5 and I can bring something either lower or upper tier but I'm cool with sticking to my level 5 guy to keep us on the lower tier side. We still have 2 more players that haven't popped in yet so we don't know what levels they are bringing.

The Exchange

Hi everyone. Just to clarify, are we aiming for lower tier or upper tier?

Yeah, overseas exchanges do present a challenge. And the "issued to/traded to" info with the organized play numbers do help establish credibility and a paper trail.

Edit: Out of curiousity, why are so many people specifying physical trades only? I haven't been in this thread for a few years, did something happen?

There has been an increase of unscrupulous individuals selling copies of boons and other counterfeiting taking place. Many VO organizers have taken to methods such as embossing stamps, watermarks, and such to validate valuable boons to foil these. I really see these people insisting on physical trades trying to remain on the up and up about keeping honest people honest. Do you know for sure that individual who scanned and emailed the boon you traded for destroyed the original or not?

The overall situation isn't perfect but some efforts are way better than no efforts.

What is the current PFS GM convention race boon for February through April this year?

Since the end of November, it has been the Triple Wet Boon (aka Aquatic Elf / Gillman / Merfolk.) It is supposed to switch sometime in March, but my boon package that just dropped for OutPost was still Aquatic Elf / Gillman / Merfolk.)

Hmm

I GM'd for a game weekend at the beginning of February, was told the aquatic races were what was made available to the organizers again. At first I thought it may have just been bad timing, not finalized in time for the start of the new quarter but now I see that it was apparently intentional. Ah well, that's not so bad, it is technically three choices and a second quarter with which to procure some more of the variety offered.

Thanks for confirming with more info, Hil.

The Exchange

I have a level 2 fighter/inquisitor I'd love to submit to give the ol' Mists a try (one of those older scenarios I always wanted to play!).

The Exchange

Hi, all
I'm looking to get my feet wet with some PBP, would you guys be open to expanding to a sixth player who's new to this format? Further disclosure, I have GM'd the Shades of Ice trilogy before but never got player credit so that might be a secondary hiccup. If a PBP newbie who also has ran the scenario before would be a concern, I have no problem nor take offense at being declined. But if accepted, I have a bard 1/inquisitor 1 (knowledge skills, suppport, backup healer) available to lock in to the end.

The Exchange

So I see this special is already available to purchase, is that supposed to be that way? Traditionally, has it not been the new Paizo Con special is not available again until it runs at Gencon, after which it is then allowed to be ran at area game cons that meet a multi table special status? I'm a bit confused at its accessibility right after Paizo Con.

The Exchange

I'm crossing my fingers that this is the story that teams up Uliyara and Valais Durant as hard-hitting, badass vigilantes (the general definition, not necessarily the player class, though that could be interesting) whose adventures intertwine with the Pathfinders for a tale larger and more epic than has ever been presented before.

The Exchange

If you were to ever take on a prestige class, just what prestige class would it be?

Steven Schopmeyer wrote:
What do we do if the party won't choose a side?

I would say they leave the site and do not achieve the primary prestige point. If they won't choose a side, they will never gain an audience with one of the tribe's leaders who has the information about Jamila's whereabouts and her connection to the Concordance of Elements. And that's the primary success condition.

I have another tidbit of info for anyone running this scenario about a premade miniature for one of the creatures in it. There IS a premade mini for Aaog Shagga the neh thalggu creature released, it was in the Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous mini set and it was listed under the name, "Dominion Invader". I just got mine the other day and it is gorgeous in a butt-ugly way! I love the little brains on its back under the transparent bubbles, the thing is fantastic. Snag one from your favorite single minis seller or Ebay while there's time to get it delivered before Gencon.

OK, you should be banned from GenCon. Deliberately making all us hard working GMs look bad. I'm hoping just to be able to make a pawn of him. That mini is going to look awesome!

Maybe I shouldn't mention that I have a custom mini in the works for the su beast and am putting together a 3D terrain map for the final room...

For real, I very much appreciate the compliment. My goal is to do what I can to make sure the players are getting their money's worth and try to make this hobby relevant in their minds a little while longer. It's a tough industry, lots of things competing for people's money & time for recreational hobbies, you know?

You share a bed.

Cuddling optional.

I've been doing this for years and never had a problem with a roommate hogging too much of the bed. Of course for me it's usually walk in, brush teeth, and *whoomph* straight to sleep from exhaustion.

I don't know how my wife is going to feel about me farting in bed with another while alseep, I think that was even in our wedding vows.

If you're wierded out at the thought of sharing; then bring a sleeping bag or air mattress. One can request a cot; but with the number of people they may or may not have enough to accommodate everyone and you may be left in the lurch if you don't plan ahead.

In general though; by the time everyone gets to the room to crash for the night -- doing anything funny isn't even a thought as you are exhausted and just want to get your 3 hours of sleep before you get up to hit it for another day

Yeah, it's more about courtesy for whoever else may be in the bed than worried for myself.
