Free RPG Day Sanctioning

This year’s delightful Free RPG adventures, Pathfinder Adventure: Big Trouble in Little Absalom and Starfinder Adventure: Skitter Home are sanctioned for use in Paizo Organized Play programs as of their release date of Saturday, July 25th, 2020. Sanctioning guidelines and chronicle sheets will be uploaded to the product pages before then.

Pathfinder players may use one of the five provided pregenerated kobold characters, applying credit to one of their characters as per the standard Society rules. Once the Advanced Player’s Guide releases (July 30th), players may create kobold characters for Society play, including using them in Free RPG day adventure.

The Starfinder adventure utilizes either Skittermander Society characters of fourth level or one of the four provided pregenerated skittermanders. If using a pregen, credit application follows Starfinder Society guidelines. Remember that Starfinder Near Space provides character options for use in building new skittermander PCs!

There are a few restrictions for when and how Free RPG Day adventures. These are different than in prior years, to take into account social distancing due to Covid-19:

  • GMs are permitted to run on a VTT for their local group, provided they get a physical copy from the store and are only running for local players.
  • Once the scenario is released digitally on paizo.com in August, anybody may run it online or in-person for whomever wants to play!
  • As always, you can get credit for the scenario twice: once as a player and once as a GM.

Achievement Points Update

This morning, the last piece of the AcP puzzle fell into place and we turned on boon purchasing. You will now see a full list of purchasable Character Options on the Boon tab of your My Organized Play page. While our intention is to rotate boon options out, with the delay in launching AcP we intend to keep this first batch of boons until the end of the year. We may add to the options, but we won’t take anything away without plenty of warning towards the end of the year.

To help you navigate through the new features, we’ve put together a description of the information found on several tabs of your My Organized Play page, followed by a list of anticipated FAQ. If you have a question that isn’t answered below, please post it in the comments and we will get it answered, as well as including it on future iterations of the FAQ.

Sessions Tab

Your Sessions Tab holds a display of every game you’ve played, and that GMs reported by Paizo.com. We’ve listed a breakdown of the columns below:

  • Date: when the session took place
  • GM: the GM’s name
  • Scenario: the scenario, module or AP volume you played
  • Points: the base value of the adventure, including GM credit and AcP. (This AcP value is not necessarily what you earned!)
  • Event: the event this session took place at
  • Session: the session number assigned to the table.
  • Player: Your Organized Play ID #
  • Character: the character that received credit for this session
  • Faction: the faction that character earned reputation with
  • AcP Earned: The amount of AcP you earned, after applying any multipliers from a Premier or Premier Plus event to the base value earned
  • Prest/Rep: Reputation or Prestige earned from this session
  • Notes: Any other notes added by the system

Boons Tab

This is your Boons tab, where you will spend your Achievement Points. At the top, you will see how much AcP you have to spend. To purchase, select the character you are purchasing for with the dropdown at the top of the screen, then click “Purchase” on the right side of the screen.

After you purchase a boon, it will be available for download beneath the available boons. It is a downloadable PDF, which you can keep for your records and/or print out, per campaign guidelines for providing supporting documentation.

Characters may have only one ancestry boon. Ancestry boons may be added to a character who has chronicles assigned but not applied. Other boons may be added at any time as long as language in the boon does not specify otherwise. Guide 2.0 will include language about applying AcP boons.

Boons must be purchased in between scenarios, to not slow down gameplay.

Achievement Points Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my ancestry and background with one of the rebuild boons?
It depends on the rebuild boon. Rewrite History permits you to change Ancestry and Background. This boon phases out of use August 31, 2020. Career Change and Evolving Destiny do not.

Can party members help purchase the Second Chance boon?
Party members may contribute gold to any costs incurred as part of the resurrection ritual. They may also sell the deceased characters’ items to help contribute to the cost if the player consents.

What does unlocking access to items mean?
When you have access to an uncommon or rare item, you can purchase it at its listed price. You can also purchase the formula for these items you have access to from the Pathfinder Society at the same price as a common formula of the same level. Only the PC with the relevant boon attached gains access to this item.

Formulas for items which limit how many a character may obtain are not available.

What does unlocking access to spells mean?
Having access to an uncommon or rarer spell means that your character(s) can learn the spell in the same way they learn other spells, provided they meet all prerequisites. A character must have access to the spell to learn it from another character that knows it. Only the PC with the relevant boon attached gains access to this spell.

What spells are available with the Esoteric Spellcaster - Core Rulebook boon?
The spells available are: circle of protection, discern lies, drop dead, ethereal jaunt, false vision, globe of invulnerability, hallucinatory terrain, locate, magic aura, mind blank, mind reading, nondetection, power word blind, power word kill, power word stun, protection, spell turning, stone tell, or undetectable alignment

What items are available with the Avid Collector - Core Rulebook boon?
The items available are: aeon stone (clear spindle), aeon stone (dull gray), aeon stone (gold nodule), aeon stone (lavender and green ellipsoid), aeon stone (lavender ellipsoid), aeon stone (orange prism), aeon stone (pink rhomboid), aeon stone (tourmaline sphere), bloodletting kukri, brooch of shielding, cape of the mountebank, channel protection amulet, chime of opening, clandestine cloak, dancing rune, dragonslayer’s shield, elven chain, floating shield, forge warden, greater disrupting rune, holy prayer beads, invisibility potion, katana, katar, keen rune, kukri, mending lattice, oil of animation, oil of keen edges, panacea, potion of tongues, ring of counterspells, spell-storing rune, spiked chain, or swift block cabochon

What do I do if I have errors in my reporting?
First, check with the GM or event coordinator to see if they can correct it. If not, reach out to your local Venture-Captain or email issues to pfsreportingerrors@paizo.com. Please include photos or scans of the chronicle relating to the game with the error to make correcting info easier and faster.

We hope you are as excited in utilizing the AcP system as we are. We thank everyone for your patience as we worked through the bugs and got the system set up.

If you missed it earlier, you can still check out the July Starfinder Society preview blog.

If policy did not change, need advice on moving forward on PF1 play in future once other bigger hotter fires are put out. :>

Is there consideration to adding some of the PtP exclusive boons to the AcP, specially the experienced adventurer boon allowing start at level 2? I know that might have to be balanced against the Envoy’s Alliance boon that generates a similar effect, but some of us simply do not enjoy 1st level play and would like to use our play experience to buy 2nd level. Some can just GM and use those chronicles for the same effect, but not everyone does, or should GM, and would like the same opportunity. And since we already have multiple options to start at level 2, and there is already an existing boon, it’s not like there isn’t plenty of precedent so really no reason not to extend that boon to AcP

Player: 1 achievement point/XP on chronicle.

Premier event multiply by 1.25
Premier Plus event multiply by 1.5
GM multiply by 2

They are discussed in the PFS2 Org Play Guide under special rewards.

They were first discussed:
During the Playtest

They've been mentioned in almost every monthly OP blog since.

Its PFS2 only at present, but I think we expect them to make their way to SFS at some point.

The short version is every game you play or GM earns you some AcP. (GMs get twice as much as players).

correction on this and i couldnt edit it because that option disappeared, when i tried to buy the excavator it would just send me to the blog main page, and after 3 attempts, twice sending me to paizo blog and the 3rd time to "my account".

i am now afraid to buy any other boons for fear of more incorrect purchases and probably long wait times on the fixes because covid is slowing EVERYTHING down and causing catastrophes out of the smallest of problems.

Bahb,

I thought the PtP boons were for new 2nd edition characters and you could start a PC at 2nd or 3rd level? Did I miss an update, or am I not understanding what you are asking about?

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

The PtP could be used to purchase a variety of Boons, including a Boon allowing you to start a brand new character at either Level 2 or Level 3.

I think a bunch of us were hoping you could do the same with AcP, but that is currently not an option.

Sovereign Court 4/5 ** Regional Venture-Coordinator, Southwest

Soooo I am having an issue where every PtP Boon I get is assigned to the same character, even if I change characters in the drop-down. For instance, I purched the level 3 boon for my character Mwindaji. Then I went to purchase the level 2 boon for my character Motigba Danseyre. Both boons appear to be purchased by Mwindaji (which probably shouldn't be possible anyway).

I thought I fat fingered it, so I decided to test again and purchase the free wayfinder PTP Boon for Mwindaji, no problem. Then I bought it for Motigba and immediately got an error saying I'd already purchased it for that character. When I look at my purchased boons I do not see any for Motigba, just 3 for Mwindaji (the level 3, the level 2, and the wayfinder boons).

I know for sure I changed the characters. ESPECIALLY, the second time when I purchased the wayfinder boons.

I was doing this on my Android phone on Chrome.

So after a little experimentation, it appears that when you first select a character and purchase a boon, the system holds onto that initial character selection. If you try to change characters and select another boon, it will purchase said boon on the original character. If you look at the character name field after the screen refreshes from the purchase, you'll notice the previous character's name is populated instead of the newer selection.

You need to close the window and re-open the Paizo website to get the character selection box to revert to default setting (Select Character...). Then you can choose a character and buy the boon. You have to do this each time you change characters.

We just need the information sent to pfsreportingerrors@paizo.com. Please send your org play number, the character number, what boon you bought, what you wanted, and if you need a cancellation (because you've already purchased the desired boon) or if you need the boon swapped (because you haven't purchased the desired boon.)

That is an acceptable response now. However, down the road when this blog finds its way to the bottom of the list of near infinite posts, the answer may be difficult to locate by those who can not navigate the site as proficiently as others.

Maybe before purchasing the players wants to know the wording of said boons? Do you like purchasing things before reading the fine print? I do not.

Just to clarify, if we earn an item on a chronicle does that satisfy the access requirement to purchase the item?

Or do we also need to also purchase the Avid Collector boon to meet the requirement?

If you have access via a chronicle, you don't need Avid Collector.

You'll note some of the items in Avid Collector are on chronicles. However, you can only ever have 2 copies at the most (barring legal replays) of the ones I recognize. Oh, except katana, that one's replayable. Anyhow. so you could use Avid Collector to get access on different characters or might not know about, be interested in, or be a legal level for the scenario that awards the item.

Another way is to reach out to the GM or VO that reported the table. It could be something in the reporting.

Keep in mind that events that fall under Regional Support Program (RSP) require a setting on the sytem to record correctly.

***

I hope people who are requesting people talk to their GMs realize that GMs don't control AcP. GMs can't do anything, even if they're self-reporting the event.

The problem seems to be in the assignment of AcP to a scenario. The GM can change the XP and Fame, but there's no place to put in AcP, that's assigned by a computer chaotic neutral fey creatures.

At first, I thought it was that some events were coded wrong (all my AcPs for an event seemed to be off by the same amount); this would suggest that self-reporting GMs could create a new event and avoid future problems. But recently my personal PbP reporting event has given a mix of problems, so I no longer think that is the cause (or not the only cause). And GMs that report through a VO will be able to do even less (they will just forward the issue to their VO, who will have the same non-options as a self-reporting GM has).

My main point to the suggestion to contact the GM or reporting VO was to make sure the table was reported and reported to the correct character number.

Sorry for not being clearer.

Ok so I almost wrote out a bunch of sarcasm, but realized that would just be not very productive. The GM, VO, Event Organizer says they are all reported but by my paper sheets there are games that are not showing up on my games played and then there are convention games that don't show up as convention games.
