"Agreed," Erlathan chews on a leaf of peppermint to remove the last vestiges of charcoal from his breath. "We know far less about the seal than they might, and besides, we did just take down nearly a dozen undead. Might as well leave something for the giant to do!"

Erlathan steadies himself. "Why do I get the feeling whatever's about to emerge isn't going to be one of our friends?" The wizard ponders aloud. Delay

"Luurg, friend, looks like you could use some help," Erlathan calls, stepping into a personal-sized portal and reappearing next to Whiskers. "How about some more... fire, hmm?" Taking out a brass dragon scale, Erlathan weaves an incantation and exhales a jet of flames in a straight line.

"Ack! Blackfrost mummies, creatures of the north who are infused with blackfrost poison, which damages both health and constitution! Probably don't want to let them touch you, no, no," Erlathan swings his head to the left as he lazily creates a showy ball of fire in his hand, tossing it at the nearest three zombies.

+22 Empowered for 67 damage. DC 22 Reflex for half. I'm not sure if the brown gaps are pits or walls, which will affect how many are hit.

"Nice trick you've got there," Erlathan looks at the barrier covering his flaming sphere before he dismisses it. "Looks like you know a thing or two about ice. And ice runes, perhaps. I suppose we just might be able to use your knowledge."

Erlathan sighs at Luurg's merciful gesture. "I suppose next time I should conserve magic rather than use it against, you know, vicious animals. Hah! Only to heal them, eh? Anyway, perhaps it can still be of use." Snapping his fingers, the flaming sphere rolls towards the giant and second bear.

Taking a few steps back, Erlathan waggles his chin tentacles as he summons forth a flaming sphere on the grappling bear. "Watch out for the flames, Luurg!"

"Much more fierce than your standard grade polar bear, apparently," Erlathan rushes through the snow, taking out a brass dragon scale as he begins an incantation. "I apologize, but my breath may stink of charcoal for a moment." He leans forward and exhales a line of fire at the bear.

Btw, how is Shaneene starting each day with 7/7 Arcana? I believe it's 3 + 1/2 arcanist level, with the Extra Reservoir feat adding to it.

"Tikasak mentioned steps leading up, so at least we won't have to, you know, carefully climb up a slippery, snowy slope!" Erlathan balks, stowing his spellbook after prepping spells for the day. He recasts mage armor, of course.

"Er, I suppose I've no qualms about a guide," Erlathan looks up from examining his fingernails. "Does that mean we have to guarantee her safety, though? Because, you know, giants and all that."

"Humm, perhaps the seal could have been, you know, just a little stronger if it, you know, kept out an ancient village-destroying evil?" Erlathan sarcastically remarks. "Kidding, of course. Yes, yes, help is here. What's involved in the repair? Or perhaps that wand reveals the nature of the task. Snow shape, maybe? Let's take a look." Spellcraft, Wand: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26

"Oh, gods. Are you really going to dig into that thing?" Erlathan turns his face away, not wanting to witness the whale butchering. "I suppose they must sustain ourselves on whatever is available, but I'd rather not watch. And I don't suppose they are the sort to use a fork and knife either."

Wait, now they want us to kill it? Okay!

"How very fickle," Erlathan sighs. "Very well, very well. Go, ball of sparks, finish off the whale. Oh, and let's not forget the staff."

Sounds good DM, ready the staff for the appearance of another big mean orca, and use my move action to move the sphere away.

"Tip us over?! Dear gods, I'm not here to get soaked, and not in freezing cold water, either!" The arcanist raises his quarterstaff and sends a pair of magic missiles screaming towards the black orca.

Erlathan scratches his head, frantically trying to remember something about the whales. "Blasted whales, I can't recall a thing about them! Nor can I tell if they're angry, or not. Best to be prepared, of course."

Upon hostility from the whales, ready an action to cast Flaming Sphere with Versatile Evocation to change its energy type to Electricity.

Erlathan grimaces as he shimmies down the rope. "Again, I've second thoughts about not preparing that fly spell." He makes his way to the bottom and carefully steps onto a canoe. "Well then, let's get this over with, yes? To the shore, please."

"Ack, onto a smaller boat!" Erlathan grumbles. The good thing is Luurg's pills worked, and his complexion is no longer as pale.. which isn't saying much. "Best to be sure we're prepared. Never know what might happen, hmm?"

"Uhmph.... I never was one for travel by sea," Erlathan wipes away the last bits of undigested food from his chin. "And of course, I did not think to prepare Fly today to float above, and avoid the motion of this awful water seasaw. Even if I did, it doesn't last long enough to be worth it." He dry heaves over the side of the ship. Even strong mages weren't immune to seasickness.

"Say, Luurg, got anything for a, er, weak stomach?"

"Yes, very well, let's get this over with," Erlathan mock shivers, turning in to rest for the evening.

"Three weeks!" Erlathan balks at the trip duration. "I dare say one would get used to the cold after being in it for that long, but that's simply not true. Best to use magic, or more pragmatic means, I guess." He shivers just thinking of it, not one to enjoy being inconvenienced. At all.

He takes out his spellbook and begins fanning through it. "Ah, there it is. Rest assured, I can prepare and cast endure elements daily."

Erlathan doesn't mind spending his level 1 spells to cast Endure Elements six times daily, though it would tap him out of level 1 spells each day. Might be good to use 3 or 4 castings in addition to the wands.

"Matter of fact, I may know a thing or two," Erlathan idly leans back against the wall.

"The Crown of the World is an ice-covered land that joins the continents of Avistan and Tian Xia over Golarion’s northern pole. Even in summer, the temperature is close to freezing, and winter brings some of the coldest temperatures experienced on Golarion." He clears his throat, before continuing.

"And now, for the more important details. Travelers in the far north should watch out for snowstorms and ensure they keep dry. Being wet is like lowering the temperature from cold weather to severe cold, or severe cold to extreme cold. Cold weather outfits, perhaps? Then again, we could just, you know, endure elements." He snickers.

"Finally, I recall that the Erutaki village of Aaminiut is built on stilts over the Taraska River delta along the western coast. It is the largest Erutaki settlement, and serves as the main point of trade between the Erutaki and Ulfen peoples."

Take 10 for 27 Spellcraft to ID those boots

Erlathan is aghast when the unsightly orc walks into the room, but seeing the magical fruit appear quickly changes his mind. "Verdant boots, quite useful for travel, and always nice to have a variety of healthy food to eat. Keeps the mind sharp, even. Good to have you along."

The scrawny elf regards the dwarf of few words with intrigue. "Agate of Highhelm, I'm Erlathan, er... of Kyonin, though its been decades since I've been back. Long story. And don't mind the appearance, also a long story," he points to the tentacles dangling from his chin. "I know a wizard when I see one, so tell us, what's your specialty? Or why not show us." He leans back against one of Luurg's trees and waits.

Erlathan rubs the tentacles on his chin, deep in thought. "Wembly, was it? Tell me more about Whiskers. Is he your eidolon? And I don't mean that in an I love pseudocats and must know everything about them kind of way, but more because he seems magical, and magic is, well, my thing," snapping his fingers with a coy grin on his face, a rush of cold air billows from Erlathan's body. He snaps his fingers to cycle through three other auras, before finally shutting it down.

"I'm looking forward to using this little aura out in the field. Never know when something might resist a certain kind of energy, or three," he smiles.

"Gah! Useless adept nearly spilled his ink bottle on my book!" A skinny elf curses as he marches into the room, still flipping through his spellbook. "Did I miss the briefing? No? Good. Buy new magic, they said. It'll make you stronger, they said. Ugh. Those stuffy scroll merchants need to learn to take no for an answer." He throws his hands up in dismissal.

"Right, introductions. I'm Erlathan. Please, don't ... mind the appearance." A closer look at his face reveals a set of tentacles hanging from his chin. His canine teeth are vampirically sharp, and you can't help but notice the many bald spots underneath his long hair.

"Ah, a cat. Perhaps he is your familiar?" Erlathan gazes at the gnome. "I chose not to have one, pets are much too dirty for my tastes. And does this mean you must carry around a litter box as well, or does it relieve itself wherever it wishes?" The mage's face twists as if horrified.

"Pursue revenge, or follow the noble path and stay in the Society?" Erlathan strokes his chin, and looks relieved when a tentacle falls off. "I mean, if I could seek my own revenge against my father and those who threw me from my own home town for a minor crime, I'd surely do so." The elf looks on at Zarta. "But I just don't see why six of us should be making the decision on what you might do. SO! Let's leave it up to fate, shall we?"

He pulls a black dragon scale and a green dragon scale from his spell component pouch, and puts them into a separate pouch together. Then he gleefully shakes the bag up and closes his eyes, pulling out a scale.

Erlathan plucks the black dragon scale from the bag and brings it up in front of his face. "The scales have spoken... I guess. Seek revenge, Zarta. Down with Thrune!"

Erlathan would have thought he could do it anyway. :)

Erlathan looks at the imp suspiciously. "You think you can make me even more powerful? I mean, a familiar could always help, and an imp does fit my appearance well..." The elf flips through his spell book and considers what spells might be easier-to-deliver with the help of a minion to do so. "Ah, yes. I think this just might work, Artylget. First thing's first, though. You need a name I can more fluidly pronounce during my arcane incantations, so Art it is."

"Hey Cirri, where did you.. Oh.. Not again.." Erlathan looks on in horror. He was a little too close to Leventi for comfort, but he hadn't been in this situation before. Things were dire. The elf showed bravery despite his usual antics.

And so he chewed up another dragon scale and exhaled a big breath of lightning, hoping to overcome Leventi's resistance this time...

"Obtrivi, are you going to use that chainsaw ag--" Erlathan gasps as the ifrit vanishes. "Oh.. dear.. There goes the artillery."

The elf frantically scratches his head. "I may be brazen in what I'm about to do, but this is a fight like none other. If I don't make it, one of you, please make it your life long goal to exterminate as many vargouilles as you can."

With that, Erlathan snaps his fingers, and dimensionally slides up to the north of Leventi. "I may have failed with my fireball, but try this on for size!"

Erlathan pulls a blue dragon scale from his pouch and puts it in his mouth. He throws his head back and exhales a 60 foot lightning bolt at Leventi.

Sorry, I hadn't realized Cirri casted Haste. GM, may I retcon? Would have loved to lobbed a fireball in before anyone else acted, since we're in block initiative and it's not like I can post at certain times of the day.

"Wait! Let me start, let me!" Erlathan demands before the others advance. He puts his palms together and creates a giant ball of pure lightning, lobbing it at Leventi.

Erlathan steels his mind and turtles himself in between his arms, avoiding some of the fireball damage. "Gah! I'd expect nothing less of this tier of devil!" He quickly recovers, and begins his own incantation.

Haste on the whole party, gogogo!

Erlathan runs his hand along his hair. His head was bald not long ago, the result of getting too close to an evil creature. ".. Well, I suppose I'd not be the odd one out. Besides, how can I be sure he will deliver as he promises?" The arcanist twirls his quarterstaff of entwined serpents. "I'm with you, Alden. Down with this duplicitous devil! NO deal!"

If Erlathan accepts the deal but everyone else doesn't, does that mean Erlathan sits back and watches everyone else fight? Seems odd.

If the answer is yes, he may invoke his fickle nature and change his mind on the spot, siding with the party.

".. I mean, accept an offer just like that? HAH, really -- wait.. Wish.. Did he say wish?" Erlathan's rant stops suddenly, and the elf strokes his chin tentacles in thought. "Leventi drives a hard bargain, and his logic is sound. And we get a wish out of it. It could get interesting, you know, and if it's true that it weakens hell?" Erlathan shifts on his feet and fidgets with his spellbook. "Um, I kind of want to take this offer." He mumbles.

"Did he really expect us to walk in here and say Why yes, Leventi, we humbly accept your offer and will take that swirling head. It will make a fine trophy." The elf oozes sarcasm in his body language, rolling his eyes as he speaks. "No deal!"

:) Glad to hear it. I thought of what ridiculous things I could make him say, and that was the first thing that came to mind.

Erlathan shudders. "W-what was I saying? Something about an insane wizard..." He rubs the wounds on his arms, but can't quite recall how they got there. Either way, he takes out his wand of infernal healing and taps himself thrice.

"If there's anything I learned about being in this wretched place, it's that you cannot be too prepared. Ugh." He hits himself with Mage Armor, Invisibility, and offers up an Enlarge Person if anyone wants it.

"Well, this is a story, all about how, my mind got flipped, turned upside down, and I'd like to take a minute, so just sit right there, I'll tell you how I became the wizard of the outer sphere." Erlathan rotates his head in a wide, 360-degree circle.

"You! You're no dwarf, you're a DEVIL!" Erlathan smacks Obtrivi with the side of his staff.

Erlathan cringes hard as his porcelain skin is polluted with tattoos. "Ugh. Are these permanent?! ... If they are, I suppose I could conjure up tattoos of my own that match my skin, and therefore conceal these infernal ones. Hah! Suck it, Hell!"

The elf points in the direction of the archives. "This way next?"

"I apologize, friends, but my mental vargouilles are surging," Erlathan lags behind in the explanation. "But I have nothing more to add."

The elf scans the room, and then raises his index finger to speak. "Actually... Theses statues... These walls were dismantled and extracted from a fallen temple of Aroden outside Ostenso in Cheliax. The middle statue depicts Leventi, while the six around the chamber are the monarchs of House Thrune: Abrogail I, Antoninus, Terthule, Carellia, Infrexus, and Abrogail II."
