The question was "Which of your PF/D&D characters would you want to wake up as." Any of the ones you've ever played, in all the games you've ever played.

It was actually really difficult for me: Veldrin, my insanely powerful necromancer god. Davin Sunfury, an epic, mythic badass from my upcoming Broken Golarion setting. Dimitri Von Zarovich, a vampire undead hunter in Ravenloft. Calesha Durothil, a warpriest of Corellon Larethian. And a bunch of others.

I decided on Ace for a number of reasons. He's very similar to me in a lot of ways. I've always loved shape-changing, and power mimicry/adaptation as super powers. Plus, he's got an amazing girlfriend, an awesome group of friends, and goes to a sentient, semi-futuristic school. Sure, it's often under attack, and the entire universe might collapse soon, but hey, these things happen, LOL.

There is absolutely no way Tybs would ever find himself in that predicament...

He would just blink out, lol

Hey Lyn, is there a Champion aura around Ephebe?

Ace swallows hard, and is quite for several longs moments after Ephebe finishes her explanation. "I'm obviously very new to all of this, but I am very fond of living. I would prefer to continue to do so for a little longer than five or so years, if possible. What can I do to help, if anything?"

Ephebe shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Sorry, no, I guess I wasn't being that clear. I've never been bumped off target before and it's left me a little loopy. Not you. Your patron. She offered 'help' ...well, not directly of course. That's against the rules. The last champion....no, maybe two back? Kallish something or other. I don't know. It was like three thousand years ago last week next Tuesday. She gave me information. To help divert this timeline from certain destruction. Presumably. But she wasn't being on the up and up. She bounced me off target. This wasn't the plan. It wasn't supposed to end like this," she said, scowling. "They're supposed to stay clear. Literally my job is to run amok and change things in the hopes that I find the right things to give this particular universe a chance against what's coming. It's what they made me for. I don't know why your patron decided to interfere with that. I mean, what's the point?" she added, throwing up her arms in frustration.

Ace nods slowly in understanding. Well, partial understanding, as that whole timey whimey nonsense made no sense. "Okay, I think I get it, a little bit. You're like a cosmic handy woman, and for some reason Fate decided to throw the proverbial monkey wrench into your path. That screwed up your ability to get here at the right moment to save both Ehos and Tyrrin, which apparently makes no sense. Unless for some reason Ehos had to die? Could his death be setting something into motion that needs to occur, but for some reason, you weren't told. Or rather, couldn't be told? "

He pauses for a few moments, trying to wrap his head around all of this. "You said you bounce around timelines, right? What if that prevented somebody from telling you?"

Ace waits until Fei and Jaiye have left before voicing his concern to Ephebe. "Are you saying that I'm somehow to blame for you not arriving in time to save Ehos?" He asks in a tiny voice, unsure he wants to actually hear the answer, but knowing he must.

Ace looks to Ephebe "Is there nothing to that can be done? I know there's some incredibly powerful divine magics that could bring one back even without a body, but they are beyond my capabilities."

After Ghalen and Ty teleport back to Avalon, Ace finally lets the rest of what happened hit him. Ehos was gone, and according to Ephebe, there was no bringing him back. I'm so sorry Jai. I tried to do everything I could to save Ehos, but that sick man was determined to punish him and Tyrrin. I'm sorry my fiend."

Whatever guilt Ace might have been feeling over what he did to the chancellor is currently replaced with anger and hate towards what he did to Ehos, Ty and Jai.

Ace sighs in relief when the healing does the trick and Ty comes to. "A lot's happened, and we can all fill you in later. However, right now, I'm guessing you've gotten a decent amount of radiation sickness and poison affecting you right now. Unsure if Fei can help you there, but if he can't we should probably get you back to Avalon asap."

Ace watches as his best friend does exactly what he expects her do to, sacrifice herself for the world and those she loves. It is, without a doubt, the bravest thing he has ever witnessed. He's in true awe of her courage.

For several brief moments, he thought about having to explain all of this to Ginni. Everything crashed through his mind at once, much like a herd of elephants on a rampage. The ceremony, the attack, hunting the renegade elves down, the battle, using his power to devour the chancellor's brain and assuming his identity, the meeting with Fate, and finally Tyrrin's sacrifice.

And then, suddenly, there's a massive sonic boom as Ty's broken and beaten form crashes into the floor and a dragon collides into a wall. Which ends up being Ephebe. Who had apparently saved Tyrrin.

He stares dumbfounded, frozen in shock as to what just happened. Then Ephebe calls out for aid and medical attention. He rushes to Ty's side and looks her over quickly before healing her and Ephebe some.

1d20 + 20 ⇒ (15) + 20 = 35 Heal check, then using Opportunistic Piety to heal them both for 45 HP

Ace waited until the room was cleared of the Chancellor's men, then turns to his best friend. "I know you're about to do something that is most likely 'stupid'. If this goes the way I expect it will, know that I'll miss you." He then gives Tyrrin a quick hug, before going over to wherever the level was, and flipping it to open the roof.

Heh, I forgotten till this scene that Ace considers Ty his bestie.

I was kinda waiting to see if any of the other PCs wanted to reply to Ty. Like, idk, her boyfriend or something, who I believe is also right there? Maybe? :P

Upon arriving back in the present, Ace is rattled by what had just happened, and it takes him a few moments to adjust to his current surroundings. Then he spots the dead chancellor, and remembers what's happening. He looks to his friends. "There's no off switch, as once he started this, he didn't want it stopped. I also don't think tampering with the machine or controls is a good idea. However, the roof is designed to retract and I know where the switch is to make it open. I'm not sure what good that will do, but we're running out of time and options."

Suddenly, an idea hits him. He had basically just traded places with the chancellor so maybe swapping places with Ehos would work. He voices this aloud to the others "What if I traded places with Ehos via teleporting myself into the device, and teleporting him away? Obviously this won't work if the thing is protected from such magicks, but it's all I got left."

Lyn, with the knowledge the chancellor had, I would assume Ace would know whether this would be a success or cause more harm than good.

Ace has 35. Slacker :P lol

It's a little tricky writing Ace for this scene.

*He* is obviously very intelligent, but for the most part, that intellect is pretty much grounded in the mundane, or at least non 'cosmic', world.

Kinda like Batman if he suddenly found himself among Marvel's Abstracts(Death, Eternity, Order, Chaos, etc).

*However*, as the player, I have a fair amount more knowledge not only of the over-arcing meta Lyn is telling(not that much, but obviously more than Ace) but also a general 'cosmic awareness' of the universe, mythology(real world, not in game), etc, that Ace doesn't really posses.

I hope I'm doin an okay job writing his dialogue here.

Sorry Lyn!, had a super busy weekend which included seeing Endgame Sun. Monday and yesterday were spent catching up.

Hoping it's okay that I did all that in one post, but I didn't wanna drag this scene out waiting for replies and possible counter replies.

Ace nods grimly at Jaiye's words, squares his shoulders and walks over to the chancellor. "Fei, can you render him immobile? Like fully paralyzed? What I'm about to do works best if he can't fight back at all."

If Fei is unable to, Ace will first cast a paralysis spell Hold Monster DC 28.

Assuming either is successful, Ace shifts his staff into a dagger, and he holds down the elf by the throat. "Your life is mine now." He says darkly, then slices open the chancellor's head, and extracts his brain, which he consumes. He then perfectly duplicates the form of the man he just killed.

Ace used Consume Identity, which allows him to assume the chancellor's form with 100% accuracy, along with possessing his memories, abilities and alignment. He now knows everything the chancellor does regarding this crazy contraption.

I'm curious if Ace's *specific* ability he's about to use was planned for, or if destiny/fate lined up perfectly where that won't matter.

Until the specifics came up, I never even considered what Ace is about to do as a solution, but it's been on his sheet since the beginning and maybe Lyn wrote this scene with that in mind.

Or perhaps everything is going to work out regardless.

Upon hearing the Chancellor's declaration, Ace turns his attention to the man to blame for all of this, "Fei, Ghalen, if he refuses to undue this mess, I have a way of extracting the information we need. I am absolutely *loathe* to use it, but if we have no other option, I will do it."

Ace unleashes the full force of his personality at the guard, concentrated into a single, powerful word. "Drop! He commands

Casting the above spell, DC 20

Noting that the barrier is now down, and Jaiye was chomping at the bit to strike, Ace grins at the guard holding Ty.

"You're about to have a really bad day. I would strongly suggest laying down your weapon." Spending a Moment of Inspiration to add my Factotum level on my Intimidate check. 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (10) + 30 = 40 Intimidate

Is the chancellor still alive/present? I believe he's the guy in charge of all this nonsense, yes?

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and it's very possible Ace is about to do something rather loathsome that he's never done in game, and has barely ever done in his whole life, period.

No full attack this turn because surprise round

The first guard falls flat on his face, dragging Tyrrin to the ground along with him. She groans as she hits the ground, starting to come to.

How does the 2nd guard react to his buddy falling, and Ty beginning to come around?

Twirling his staff, Ace unleashes a blur of strikes and attacks, attempting to subdue Ty's captors.

1d20 + 36 ⇒ (6) + 36 = 42 trip attempt, spending a Moment of Inspiration to get +13.

Can I attack the 2nd guard with my full attack, or do I need to wait a turn?

Timing it just right, Ace teleports in as soon as Fei does his superman punch, landing next to the two guards dragging Tyrinn. "Excuse me, but she's with us."

Lyn, initiative? Attack rolls? Etc? lol

Lyn, is there a way to tell if the field prevents teleportation, aside from just attempting to teleport in? Detect Magic and a spellcraft check or if it's tech based, the Technomancy spell(which, I imagine students capable of casting magic learn in engineering class?) and a Engineering check?

"In position." Ace says, once he reaches a spot he feels gives him the best angle to rush in as soon as Fei does his thing.

As he waits for the the barrier to fall, he casts a spell to quicken his reflexes and overall speed. Casting Haste.

"Should I attempt to take any of these insurgents out? I'm guessing Ghalen can handle rescuing Ty on his own." Ace asks over the comm.

I can't remember if the High Seer is in communication with us or not, but if she is, Ace will direct this question to her.

"Hey, if you wanna make yourself a target, feel free." Ace says, stepping back into the hallway, giving Fei plenty of room.

He pauses then, as he receives a telepathic transmission from Ghalen. He informs the dragon knight as to what's going on currently with the Elven siblings. "Fei has some flashy plan to take down the magical barrier so Jai and I can sneak in and grab Ehos and Ty."

"Fei, if it's magical, I could attempt to dispel it, which would be much less flashy. Then, if that doesn't work, we could try your explode-y method."

Ace quietly radios Fei, and informs him of what he's found. "This leve of tech is a bit outside of my area of expertise, but I'm willing to bet you can figure out a way around the forcefield."

Ace disappears, and stealthily heads down the hallway. Provided nothing prevents him from doing so, he'll make his way till the end.

Casting Greater Invisibility 1d20 + 46 ⇒ (18) + 46 = 64 Stealth

1d20 + 32 ⇒ (8) + 32 = 40 Perception

Ace grins as Fei opens up a door. "You would have been rather handy when I was robbing corrupt nobles back home." He says with a chuckle.

"Should I sneak ahead and see if there's any trouble or is this more of 'guns blazing' operation?"

"Was giving you time to catch up." He quips, waiting for Fei replies.

Ooh! What does he look like 'fully engaged'?? I can't recall a description of that

"Good on you buddy. What's our next move? I'm guessing you've convinced your new friends to disclose the Chancellor's location?"

Ace strolls over to where Fei is, seemingly lazy, but actually quite alert. When he reaches his friend, he flashes him one of this better smiles "FEI!! Check you out making friends with all these fine guards already! I knew you had it in you!" He teases, the usually stoic Champion.

FYI, I'm not sure if Ace knows where Fei is a Champion or not(pretty sure he does, but could be wrong). Either way, I'm using it as a descriptor, not as Ace actually knowing Fei's a Champion.

Character development!!

Ace chuckles at his friend's question. "Of course I do!" He replies confidently, walking up to the wall, which suddenly opens up on it's own.

"Or Fei can do all the work, and steal my fun." He says with a fake pout.

He steps inside, staff at the ready, and peers around for any guards or other trouble. 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (8) + 32 = 40 Perception

Ace signs audibly, "This is utter nonsense. If she ends up getting in the way once fighting begins, you're gonna need to figure something out."

Are we all at the tree mansion of the Chancellor? Or are Jai and I still en-route?

Ace shakes his head. "Jai, if we can't rescue Ehos, we may not need leverage, period. She's slowing you down, and there's no way you're at anything even close to peak fighting while shackled to her."

He pauses, thinking. "Want me to bind her more tightly? Maybe even with a Magic Circle spell? Or I could draw some blood from her in order to track her down later, should she escape."

"Jai, wait for me, I'll be there shortly." Ace says, shifting form once again to that of a wolf, and racing towards his Lycan friend.

Upon arriving, he resumes his normal form. "Ya know, we need to do something with mistress hot pants here. If there ends up being a fight, you're gonna need both hands free"

"Yep, coming in fine. Jai, north side of the city is where they took Ehos. Where are you currently? Fei, can you ask the High Seer if there's anything important over there?"

Ace quickly makes his way to the spot Jai said Ehos was taken from, and casts his tracking spell. Trace Teleport

He also scans the area mundanely, just in case. 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (19) + 32 = 51 Perception
