Redpitch Alchemy

Tuesday, November 25, 2020

A distinctively sharp and somewhat minty smell alerts travelers to the presence of redpitch pines, trees that have grown around Otari since before the town was founded. Redpitch wood isn’t much prized, as it catches fire dangerously quickly and burns fast, but its flammable sap is useful in many alchemical concoctions. Eager alchemists here often make volatile concoctions with redpitch pine sap, including incendiary bombs.

A small settlement of mostly wooden structures takes up most of a small clearing along a rocky coastline. Mountains and woodlands occupy the surrounding areas. A tall tower rises from the woods nearby. Other prominent features are an opulent temple of blue and white, the town’s tallest structure, and a long log flume jutting out over the sea..

Redpitch Bombs

Redpitch bombs are martial thrown weapons with a range increment of 20 feet. They explode when the bomb hits a creature or object.

How or why might this be relevant to Eleukas, Lisavet, and Wendlyn? Last week’s chapter of The Shroud of Four Silences was entitled, “The Redpitch Grove,” and this week’s is, “The Last Gullcracker.” Could they be related? Only readers following along will know for certain. Make sure you don’t miss an entry in the serialized novella by Liane Merciel by ensuring you’re getting marketing emails from Paizo!

Cool! Love bombs that inflict conditions like that.

The rules text for these items is very hard to read with the faint color that was chosen, and I don't even have poor eyesight.

Maybe it would be a decent idea to tweak things so it's not so hard to read?

Yes, please. The color of the text needs to be much higher contrast.

Hmmm... For myself, it seems ok and I'm color blind. It might be an issue if I had to read a lot of it but with the size of this it seems fine.

On the blog, looks cool! ;)

The colored text is the result of us turning over styled Word documents to the web team to be posted, when the styles they're using aren't built into the website like they are into our layout software.

When the new blog software we launched and then had to undo a few weeks ago goes live for real, these and other stat blocks should be formatted the same way they are in our books.

In the meantime, I'll see what we can do to make them easier to read on the current blog platform.

Thank you guys, that's much better!

There is already errata to be applied to these bombs. :P

On the Greater and Major bombs, they grant untyped bonuses to attack rolls, whereas the Moderate one lists an item bonus.

Obviously, they are meant to be item bonuses. But by RAW, they aren't.

Something to consider when the new format goes live.

Thank you! That's readable for me now.

Is there a PFS boon for this?
