Last Week of the Playtest!

Wednesday, November 27, 2019

The end of the Pathfinder Advanced Player’s Guide playtest is almost here! This is your last week to give us feedback on the investigator, oracle, swashbuckler, and witch. If you’ve participated so far, thank you so much for your help! We’ve already learned a lot about these four classes that we’ll be able to use going forward. If you haven’t yet, there’s still a bit more time to get in a game or two, and you can download it here. Either way, before the playtest period ends, be absolutely sure to head to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/APGClassSurvey to take the main survey, as well as https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/APGOpenResponse optionally if you have more detailed written feedback you’d prefer to submit to us directly.

We’re extremely excited about the future of these four classes and the rest of the Pathfinder Advanced Player’s Guide. We think these classes are going to be great, but we couldn’t do that your help. Thank you for all of the time you’ve put into creating characters, playing them, analyzing them, and giving us your feedback. We’re extremely grateful to have such a passionate and committed community, and we look forward to seeing the rest of your results. Logan and I will be on Pathfinder Friday to discuss the playtest postmortem with you on Friday December 6th at 4PM Pacific, so be sure to tune in and join us. Until then, thanks, and good gaming!

Ah the playtest postmortem: what went right, what went wrong, and which classes had the rules equivalent of congenital heart failure...always good times...

;)

Question asked in another thread:

When, precisely, does the survey close?

Someone was planning on running a Sunday Dec. 1 game and wanted to know how much time they had to finish the survey

I did run a 3 hour playtest oneshot for this, but I don't think as gm I find it that easy to answer the first survey <_<; And most of my observations weren't really based on the short oneshot anyway

Have there been any updates/changes to the playtest doc? Wanting to run with the very latest versions...if there are any that are different...

no. It won't change, and we won't see the results of the feedback until the APG comes out, except for some bits that appear in the hype blog posts.

How long do the surveys take?

Not that long, depends how well you remember a lot of the feat choices you made, and how long your opinions are. 15-30 minutes?

Yeah, this is not the same level of playtest as the full ruleset playtest we had for the full system playtest.
It's more in line with the previous playtests for when they did new PF1 classes.

It IS the same level of playtest surveys for the PF2 base classes.

The questions were the same, using the same form, to the point they even forgot to remove 'alchemist' and replace it with 'investigator' in several questions when they first went up.

oh no! the post mortem is happening on the first day of PAX Unplugged! I probably won't be able to watch it for a while.

Thanks for the backup, CrystalSeas! Unfortunately, I'm kinda thinking with the holidays there won't be anyone in the office to answer until the answer no longer matters...

My best guesses are:

1. midnight Sunday Pacific Standard Time (ie 3 am Monday morning EST), if the survey has a built in mechanism to shut it off
or
2. 10 am Monday morning PST (1 pm Monday afternoon EST) if staff shut it off when they come in to work Monday morning

or
3. If you're lucky: Midnight Monday, Dec 2, PST giving you all day Monday to enter data.

I'm hoping someone sticks their head in and answers, but it was just a hope.

Will there be another playtest for these classes?

No, staff have already said that there will not be a second round of playtesting for these classes.

Woo! Finished our weekend game just in time! Done!

My wife, son, and I just finished our run through The Absalom Initiation with an all-APG Playtest party: my wife GMed, my son played a gnome investigator and a goblin witch, and I played a leshy oracle (flames) and a halfling swashbuckler (fencer). We had a lot of fun with the characters and the new classes, although the witch seems to need something more to differentiate it from other casters.

Surveys are all completed - can’t wait to see the post-mortem on Friday.

The designers intend to close the surveys tomorrow morning. You have all day today.

So nos our main question is: When do we playtest the inquisitor, the summoner and the others.
