PaizoCon 2018 Events Schedule is Live!

Tuesday, May 1, 2018

The events schedule for PaizoCon 2018 is now live and the process for event registration has begun.

Signing up for events at PaizoCon begins with an event lottery. The lottery allows hundreds of fans to get an equal chance at claiming a coveted spot at small events run by Paizo Staff like Crystal Fraiser running a special author edition preview of our Free RPG Day adventure We Be 5uper Goblins, gaming industry veterans like Jessica Redekop running Celestial Intrigue and RPG publishers like Legendary Games running their multi-table Legendary Planet Special: Hope and Salvation, and many, many more.

The first step in the lottery process is to head to our events page and set your event preferences. Games that are part of the lottery will allow you to rank from 0 (don't want at all) to 4 (really want). Our lottery code is designed so that the more events you rank honestly the more likely you are to get an event that you want. Ranking preferences goes until on Tuesday, May 8th at 2:00 PM Pacific time so don't delay.

After the preferences sign up closes, we will run our lottery process. For each day, people with PaizoCon badges on their accounts who have set preferences are randomly ordered and attendees are assigned an event based on their preferences. If all of your #4 events are full, it moves onto events you ranked as 3's, then 2's and so on until either you are placed in an event for that day or there is nothing left that you have a ranked preference for. If the lottery goes through all accounts and there are still games left, it repeats the process until all lottery events for that day are full or everyone who made a preference selections have been assigned events. The lottery runs through each day separately. After the lottery runs, we do a quick internal check of the results to make sure the code behaved as it should and then on Wednesday, May 9th at 10:00 AM Pacific time we should be uploading the results to your online schedule.

For attendees that must game with another attendee, we do have a buddy system. We recommend that only attendees that cannot game alone use this system. If users are marked as buddies during the preferences ranking period, the lottery will pair them together in events that one of the attendees is placed in. If there is only one space left in an event, neither buddy will get that event. Once the lottery has been run, buddies no longer affect event placement and during open registration, and accounts must register for any additional events separately.

When the lottery results are live, you'll be able to trade and sign up for open events. These are most of the organized play games, seminars, workshops and any games that were part of the lottery that did not fill up. We're leaving open event registration open as long as possible, however we will need to close it on Monday May 21st so that we can print off event tickets and prepare attendees registration packets.

Let us know if you have any questions about how the event lottery and registration work. We look forward to seeing you in just a few weeks!

It doesn't look like they are breaking it up by subtier. PaizoCon's special is smaller than GenCon by far, so it will likely be handled at muster. (Those poor GMs.)

Previous years it's sort of been a "muster in this area if you want to play this tier" and people sorted themselves into groups - once you had a group you could get seated.

Gotcha. Thank you.

My lottery got me into one game, but it was a top pick - Into the Perplexity!

Then I managed to snag 2 more games that I had tried to lottery but didn't win. But they had open seats just lying around!

The rest of my schedule's not so great though, and sadly I didn't get into any PF2 playtesting.

If anyone wants in on Cosmo's Unfair Railroad on Friday afternoon, I am looking for a playtest ticket.

What is the rule or guidelibe if we wish to drop a game late (such as of we find unscheduled activities like the Delvs I read about)

Thanks for everyone's responses. I feel a touch better about it and there's plenty of seminars to check out.

There will be a corkboard in the center bit at Paizocon that people can pin unwanted/needed/conflicting tickets to and others can come by and take them

Depends on how “late” you mean. If at all possible, the polite thing to do is drop them before signup ends so others can sign up. If you are already on-site there is a “drop-and-take” table where you can put tickets you know you aren’t going to use so others can pick them up (often used by those who have reveled too far into Saturday night for placing their Sunday morning tickets).

I had thought the schedules for Org Play was sent out via email to those who had been scheduled, though now I am unsure. Hoping to confirm with Tonya today. We did add a bunch of people to there games, but the process still automatically sends an email that contains confusing language & instruction so we had to stop.

We were able to get the update to the email's language so Katina has begun adding people to events again. Unfortunately, you will get an email for each event that we add you to as a GM/Panelist/Event Leader. Her current estimate for getting people on these events is tomorrow end of day.

I lost the corkboard :( but we used a table last year near the delves and that seemed to work out well.

oh man I forgot that it was a table, how could I! Poor corkboard, it deserved better :(

So, we should go by our email schedule for the games we're GMing, and NOT assume those time slots are free if they're missing from our schedule here?

Correct, Katina is adding GMs as quickly as she can but there are over 300 events to add various people to.

Hey folks, we're working on splitting up the Solstice Scar game in to sub-tiers so people can register at the correct level. For now, I've taken that event off the site so nobody else mistakenly registers while we're fixing things.

Once things are all settled, I'll let you know when the events are up so folks can adjust their tiers as necessary. Then I'll get back to frantically adding GMs to events. Thank you so much for your patience!

Note: the original event will be converted to tiers 1-2, so if you know you'll be wanting to play a higher tier than that, you'll want to remove yourself from that event as soon as the split events are posted.

Thanks Sara Marie and Katina! I know it's a huge job. No rush, just wanted to make sure I didn't miss an email.

Oh man, that is... very good to have randomly seen here...

Alright folks, the Solstice Scar Version C has now been split into sub-tiers. You can find the events here:

Tiers 1-2
Tiers 3-4
Tiers 5-6
Tiers 7-8
Tiers 10-11

Anybody who is still in the original event (which is now tiers 1-2) but wants to play at a higher tier should remove themselves from that event and register for the correct tiers listed above. Splitting up the event means that some of the folks who signed up for the original event will have been kicked out. We need to make sure that anybody who does NOT intend to play at tier 1-2 removes themselves from that game so that there are enough slots for those who DO intend to play at tier 1-2.

The option to remove yourself from a game doesn’t show up on your schedule, so you need to find the event in the main list of events. (Filtering for games on Sunday in the Grand Ballroom narrows them down quite a bit.) The event will say “On Your Schedule” in green with an option to remove underneath.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience! Please let us know if there are any issues that crop up and we’ll do our best to help. Now, back to attaching GMs!

Thanks, that is good to know.

Hopefully this gets out to enough folks so they can fix.

also first con. Is there going to be a place for signing up for pick up gaming ?

I am a starfinder player and am not wanting to take a seat at the specials so my schedule looks really spare at the moment

Honestly, I'd make a sticky post or some sort of auto-email out to people who signed up already that warns them about this - idk about other peopel but I'd be SUUUuuuuuuuuuuper bummed out if I was planning on a 10-11 and found out I was a 1-2.

Somehow I got something in the lottery that conflicts with when I'm GM-ing. (The Crypt of the Everflame Playtest Finale with the Glass Cannon Podcast). When I tried to open up the Event Trading button, it sent me to an empty page.

What am I doing wrong? I see the event is full, so it seems likely that someone will want to trade for it....

Yay! Thank you for being so proactive about all of it!

Liberty's Edge

So ... what tier do I sign up for if I want to play on my level 9?

7-8 OR 10-11.

But first ask yourself: Do I feel lucky? ;)

Paizo Employee Customer Service Representative

Update: Emails were manually sent to everybody I could see who was registered in the original Solstice Scar event. If you are tier 1-2, please double-check to see if the event is still on your schedule. If you are higher tier, please remove yourself from that event to make room for folks who may have been removed on accident.

Starfinder Superscriber

I wasn't auto-added to #8-99C for tier 1-2, which was good because I was intending to play at tier 7-8, but was confusing.

10-11 as well. I might get to play a game with the mighty TOZ

Not to deviate from the blog, but is it possible to get a list of vendors that will be at the con this year? As well as whether Pathfinder shirts will be sold. It has differed in years past. Thank you so much for your time.

You may want to move more to the 7-8 (and maybe 10-11) sub-tier now. Once it runs below six it may discourage groups from signing up for that sub-tier.

I'm noticing an inconsistency with my schedule and I'm not sure who to ask to clear it up. When I view the events, I see an event Friday evening:

Pathfinder Society Scenario #9–15: The Bloodcove Blockade (For Levels 3–7)
Friday evening, 7:00–11:59 pm • Grand Ballroom

And the box next to it has green writing that says "On your schedule". However, the sidebar on the far right doesn't list that game. It lists all my others, but not that one. I've refreshed several times and even clicked on the link to get a printable schedule. That game doesn't show up anywhere.

How do I make sure that I am signed up for that game?

@Customer Service, I notice the game below (Event #626503) is listed as Tier 1-5.

It is actually Tier 3-7.

Friday afternoon

Hey, Team! I need some help...maybe.

I am currently signed up to run two events for Legendary Games (Event 547519 and Event 544247). Neither of those events is showing up on my schedule and I'm not getting any errors when I select events that conflict with those events.

Will you please check to make sure the system sees me as a GM for those events?

Thanks!

Huge thank-you to staff for getting my GM stuff listed!

I think they're still adding events to individual schedules - My events show through Sunday morning now, but not beyond that.

EDIT: The Sunday night special is there as well, but not my Sunday afternoon Aethera game for Legendary Games nor my Monday PFA slot. But I think they're getting to everything chronologically.
