I'm Leaving On a Jet Plane!

OPC Log—12 Kuthona 4716

With only a couple of weeks left in this year, the Pathfinder Society team finds itself working feverishly to wrap up loose ends before taking a few days to relax and visit friends and family. I'm heading out this week, with Linda and John a few days behind me. But never fear! Come January, we all will be diving back into work, finalizing plans on Season 9 and getting the rest of Season 8 ready for our players!

One of the loose ends we tied up neatly was our first quarter 2017 travel. This year, we shared some of the traveling so that everyone on the team has the opportunity to meet and greet our players.

First up, John travels to Columbia, South Carolina to attend S.C.A.R.A.B the weekend of January 13th-16th. This is one of the 5 largest conventions on the Pathfinder Society calendar. Organized by RVC Del Collins and his team, this convention offers a full slate of Pathfinder Society goodies. On offer, a variety of Roleplaying Guild scenarios and quests, as well as the pregenerated character scenarios #7-98 Serpents' Ire and #7-99 Through Maelstrom Rift. The Season 8 interactive special, The Cosmic Captive runs during the Saturday 8 PM slot. New this year, offerings of the Adventure Card Game and Adventure Card Guild play. Check out their website at here for more information.

Attendees of TotalCon in Marlborough, Massachusetts, get a double header of Paizo Staff. Designer Mark Seifter accompanies PFS developer Linda Zayas-Palmer to the convention occurring from February 23rd to the 26th. Besides a full slate of Pathfinder Society activities, two offerings of retired scenario #21 The Eternal Obelisk. Venture-Captain Ray Diaz, who is organizing the convention, has information on how seats at Linda & Mark's tables will be allocation. Visit theTotalCon website for full details on this convention.

My first trip is to Nevada and the Las Vegas Open the weekend of February 3rd to 5th. While predominately a war-game and miniatures convention, organizers branched out to roleplaying in their offerings this year. We have a full slate of activities organized by Venture-Captain Ethan Cline. I'll be running the retired scenario #09 Eye of the Crocodile King on Sunday afternoon, as well as participating in other Pathfinder Society games. For more information on the convention, check out their website.

We hijacked designer Stephen Radney-McFarland and named him an honorary Pathfinder Society team member as well. Stephen travels to Everett, Washington, from January 13th to 15th for OrcaCon. Besides his normal shenanigans, he is running a table of #19 Skeleton Moon, another retired PFS scenario. Besides Stephen, you can catch up with several other Paizo staffers participating in a variety of panels. Come out to the convention, say hi, and join in some fun! More information for OrcaCon may be found on their website.

Speaking of conventions. There still is time to submit an application to be a 2017 convention lead or sub-lead for some of our biggest shows, including PaizoCon, Gen Con, and PAX West. Check out last week's Pathfinder Society blog for the specifics!

Next week, John gives us a peek into the December scenarios #8-10 and #8-11. I'll be back once more before the end of the year, with tales of sun, dice, and loads of Pathfinder Society. So happy holidays to all and see you on the 26th!

Until next time—Explore, Report, Cooperate!

Retired scenarios? At Total Con???? Well then, I'm just going to have to make time for that.

This is all very cool news. Out of curiosity, what does it take to get a retired scenario ran at a convention? Lots of notice? A specific member of the community to get flown in on the con's dime? I'm sure more conventions, especially outside the US, would love the opportunity. Would just be a matter of learning what the parameters to be met were.

Don't forget to put PaizoConOz 2017 on your calendar for October 13-15 in New Zealand at Hobbiton!!!

Early Bird special still open til the end of the month - check us out on FB, Warhorn, Meetup, or here!

The traditional requirement (a tradition of ~2.5 years, that is) involves having a member of the Pathfinder Society team present to run the adventure. We also tend to run a slot or two of retired/revised adventures at PaizoCon.

If you would like to participate, work with your organizers and convention staff to arrange for one of us to head your direction. Keep in mind we schedule our travel in big blocks of time, though, so it's important to plan this out well in advance. We do, however, endeavor to reach as many regions as we can.

Are you guys cool with going to different countries?

And by PFS team, do you mean specifically those from Paizo itself, or would someone like Thurston Hillman count?

Cool with traveling to other countries? *tries for nonchalance* Well, I guess, if we must. *fails save*

Heck yeah! I love new places :)

Currently, the team is John and Linda for development, Mark for design, Emily for art, and myself as coordinator. In the past, we've granted authors permission to run their scenario, if retired. But we haven't retired any of Thurston's writings :)

What does it take to get a staffer to your convention? Varies. The more costs the convention can offset, the easier it is to add to the schedule. But it also depends on timing, when the request is coming in, what other deadlines are looming, if we have other travel plans, and who else might be traveling.

To give you an idea - we have the entire 2017 PFS travel schedule outlined. There is some flexibility in the next few months and after Gen Con, but May through August is pretty full. So if you want a staffer, I suggest sending a request in asap!

Oh, hey, I'll be at OrcaCon! I will definitely try to get into Stephen's game; that sounds awesome.

Admittedly, I did get special permission to run True Dragons of Absalom. All this, in spite of my rather low number of GMing stars... *innocent whistle*

It's because no one will play at his table since the incident with the <redacted>.

(I kid... Thurtsy's a fine GM despite the lack of hydrogen fusion accouterments.)

Looks like I'll have to set aside some extra time to hang out and have fun at TotalCon this year.

Likewise, we also have MarsCon going on the weekend of January 13th-15th down in Williamsburg VA! We've got a large PFS presence there (it's the Richmond, VA's biggest con of the year). If anyone's interested in attending, drop me a PM and I can get you all of the details.

Really hope that UK Games Expo and/or PaizoCon UK 2017 are on that schedule!

Well, the implications in the press releases are that Paizo will be turning up in (relative) force. :)
