Welcome Our New Organized Play Coordinator—Tonya Woldridge!

Monday, October 5, 2015

Hail and well met to the Paizo community! My name is Tonya Woldridge and I am the new Organized Play Coordinator for the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild.

I am honored to be chosen and will strive to step up and swing for the fences. The creativity of my Pathfinder Society teammates, John Compton, Linda Zayas Palmer, and Tanis O'Connor, defies words. The dedication of the "Venture Officer Corp" is the stuff of legend. Together, we are working to bring you the best campaign possible and I look forward to unveiling more over the upcoming months.

Working at Paizo is returning to my roots. I grew up in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, about 5 hours from the Paizo office, and spent 2 years at the relatively local University of Puget Sound. My extended family is dotted throughout the Pacific Northwest. I love the rain, mist, and mountains! If you want a beautiful vacation destination, the Olympic Peninsula is the best.

My gaming journey started in high school with 2nd Edition AD&D. Over the years, my various home groups worked their way through Earthdawn, and 3.0/3.5. We were on the Shackled City Adventure Path when Pathfinder Beta released, and our GM (My husband, 5-Star GM extraordinaire "Crispy3ed") converted the campaign from 3.5 to Pathfinder. I went to the third PaizoCon UK and was hooked on organized play. Since then, I've been a Venture-Lieutenant in the United Kingdom, a Venture-Captain in Canada, a Gen Con HQ volunteer for the past three years, and achieved 5 Star GM status. When the Adventure Card Game released, we started with the Runelords box set and have continued through the next editions.

My husband is a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force and we have 2 children. As a military spouse, my family has been fortunate enough to travel the world, spending 14 of the past 18 years living in England, Canada, and Korea. Our US posts include Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. While not fluent in foreign languages, I understand Korean, German, French, and several varieties of English.

Outside of Pathfinder, I enjoy reading books across a variety of genres, with Anne McCaffrey, Sharon Shinn, George R. R. Martin, David Gross, and Diana Gabaldon all in my top 10 author list. Another hobby is researching historical methods of crafting, sewing, brewing, dancing, singing, and cooking. I have been a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism for over 20 years. This love of all things medieval led to getting a Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Maryland. I also have a Bachelor's in Asian Studies, as I fell in love with Korea when we lived there and needed to know more.

I thank the leadership at Paizo for their trust and support as we strive to bring a fantastic experience to the community.

Cheers!

Tonya Woldridge

I'm not the one you asked, but Lord Gilchrist Monaghan, videographer to the Dragon Army, Shire of Riviere Constelle, Middle Kingdom.

Well, if that is the way of things, Lord Corwyn ap Nennius, bard to the Hirth of Meduseld, of the Barony of St. Swithin's Bog, Sylvan Kingdom of Aethelmearc...at your service.

Doesn't videographer break the illusion to some extent, should it be something like: rapid, sequential illustrator of the Dragon Army?

Well yes, but it's a mouthful. :P No one complains about the recruiting tool that is my videos of the war field at Pennsic, so I keep doing it. At any rate, we're pretty far afield of the topic by now. XD

Not yet, unfortunately. Living out of the US makes it difficult (but not impossible, as others have proven by their travels in the past).

It is a goal, and one I will endeavor to achieve iif Gencon & Pennsic ever don't overlap.

They often don't, though they did this year. I did both in the same year two years ago, though I usually alternate years for them.

IIRC, once GenCon moved to Indianapolis, the tendency to be on the same weekend as Pennsic became a lot more rare.

I am not going to go into the history that I was told of it, as it was apocryphal, and even before my time in the SCA.

Former SCA member, here. Joined in the Principality of Calontir, at the Barony of Three Rivers, moved to the Shire (whose name I no longer remember) which is North-side Chicago about the same time as Calontir achieved Kingdomhood; where my membership lapsed, and now live in Mundania, having failed multiple times to get to where the local SCA meets out here (mundanely Las Vegas, SCA name not yet learned).

Lord Snurri Pleieson, known commonly in the Society as Gabriel Sweettooth.

Las Vegas VC question:
Does Ethan cover all of Las Vegas, or is he purely North Las Vegas, as it says on the VO page? He was the VL for North Las Vegas, when Chris Clay was LV VC; but I thought he took over for LV in general when Chris stepped down.

In other words, does Las Vegas have a VC currently?

Cold Springs and Sparks are both fairly close to Reno, so reporting to Rorary Prisock, VC of Reno, I would assume. It also puts all of them several hundred miles away from Vegas.

Just awesome

Spoiler Question

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw your question.

Currently looking at the Venture Officer distribution, as I am unsure. Will have to get back to you. Usually it is what is listed, but there are some times when that is not the most accurate answer.

You have me curious why you are asking. Mind sharing?

Heh. Long story, and I don't know all of it.

First Las Vegas VC: Issak, stopped being VC after some sort of disagreement with Paizo. Stories as to the actual disagreement differ, from as simple as a negative reaction to his RP of one of his first PFS PCs, to more involved issues.

Second Las Vegas VC: Doug D, stepped down as VC when his personal life, including his wife and kids, got in the way of VC duties. Doug has had a small PFS debate in the past regarding his no-longer-extent fifth GM star, granted him by Josh Frost and his contemporaries.

Third Las Vegas VC: Chris C, stepped down when his work got hectic. Fairly active, was making things happen, or trying to.

Fourth Las Vegas VC, Ethan C, although his approach started differently, and now shows as VC for North Las Vegas, instead of Las Vegas. No VLs listed for the Vegas area, now. Last game I heard of Ethan running was online. Haven't heard anything from him recently.

Mike Brock was a bit... upset after Issak and Doug, and took some persuasion to allow Las Vegas to have a third VC.

Which is where the question of what Ethan's area of responsibility covers came from.

So, do we have someone working on PFS for Las Vegas in general, or just North Las Vegas, in which case, we need to see if we can get someone working on Las Vegas in general again...

Coming back to this since I was just looking at the schedule; next year Pennsic ends the week before Gen Con, if you do want to go. If you do and want to meet Pathfinder players or even get a game in after the war points some evening, please feel free to drop by the camp of the Barony of Rivenstar on Battle Road and ask for Gilchrist. :)
