I would buy a large assortment of commoners (at least one per profession would be nice), and would also love to see releases that include monsters featured in previous Paizo adventure paths/modules for which there currently are no miniatures (whether WizKids or D&D). Examples include the grioths from The Dragon's Demand, etc.

I would love to see some cool flying miniatures. Not just winged miniatures, miniatures in flight. The new D&D Dragons are just amazing. I think they may just be better than any of the Paizo dragon miniatures so far and I'm a big fan of the Paizo dragon miniatures, well except the case incentive Huge Blue.

So many great ideas in this thread already. Here are a few of my thoughts.
What we know:
1. Until we know better, my guess is that the additional miniatures in the next two sets are Huge elementals. As others have pointed out, Erik's use of the word element is just too convenient to be a coincidence. Even if he wrote it the first time without realizing it, it's hard to imagine he would have missed it as he read back his piece before posting it to the board. Perhaps I'm getting too far ahead of myself here, but I think the question should be: Will the first set contain all four base elementals from the first Bestiary while the second set (Winter 2015 release) contain all four elementals from the Bestiary 2? Or will the Spring 2015 release contain two Huge elements from the Bestiary 1, and the Winter release the other two?
2. The Winter 2015 Battles line incentive is most likely a Colossal miniature. Paizo has not done one of such magnitude, but I don't believe they've ever said they wouldn't do one. The Colossal miniature is my first guess, but not my only one. It's also possible they are working on a miniature of a mass construct, like a Gargantuan pirate ship, or even Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut. To the best of my knowledge, there haven't been any traveling vessels in the Paizo, correct? So these could fall in to the "never been done" category.

Here are some suggestions for what I'd like to see in the Pathfinder Battles line:
1. Huge miniatures.
This has been discussed ad nauseam, but it's no less important now than it has ever been.
2. Support for your main source material.
You've got books like Advanced Race Guide and NPC Codex, full of wonderful art, at your disposable. To date, the Battles line is short on options found in the former, such as Drow, Duergar, Gripplis, Hobgoblins, Kitsune, Ratfolk, Strix and Svirfneblin. The latter has excellent art to choose from, both in the PC category (regular and prestige classes) and the NPC category (Adepts, Aristocrats, Commoners, Experts, and Warriors). I've seen many requests for both, and I'm seconding these requests.
3. More PC- & DM-friendly miniatures.
This means any miniatures that can be utilized by both players and the DM. This includes all the creatures found on the Animal Companion list, the Summon Nature's Ally and Summon Monster lists, and the Familiar list.
4. Plants and Fey.
Simply put, there is a major shortage of both of these types of creatures. What's more, there is some great artwork that represents both plant types and the Small and Tiny fey. It might have been tough to work the plants into some of the AP-themed lines, but now that you can generalize your selections a bit more, it's time.
As for the Fey, I know the logistics might be tough to work out, but I'd much rather see beautiful Small-sized miniatures that represent Tiny or Diminutive Fey than no representation at all. I'm confident that you and WIzkids can come through on this one.
5. Swarms and Oozes.
At one point, it looked like we'd be seeing a swarm pop up in every line. I've grown to love swarms, as they make for great encounters during impromptu game nights or when my players decide to break off from the path on which they earlier appeared to be. Between the old D&D line and the older Pathfinder lines, there are already quite a few swarms. But there are some more common and interesting swarms missing that would be great to add to the collection.
Here are a few swarms I suggest you consider for a future line: Aerial Swarms (Bats, Bees, Crows, Ravens, Wasps), and Vermin Swarms (Centipedes, Crabs, Leechs). There are plenty of others, but these would make for a great start.
I've seen one or two folks over the past year claim they can make their own Oozes. That's great for them, but I simply don't have the time (or desire). I'd love to see a nice variety of Oozes in future lines. Here are some that stick out to me: Carnivorous Crystal, Ochre Jelly, Shoggoth, Magma Ooze, Garden Ooze, Globster, Hungry Fog, Freezing Flow and Hungry Flesh.
6. More Giants and their subtypes.
Giants are one of the most common types of enemies in any campaign, be it the adventure paths or home-brewed. You've done an excellent job with the giants you've already given us, but there are so many more types out there begging for their own miniatures. You've got the artwork, and there have been many "preferred" lists clamoring for specific giants over the last couple years.
The second part of this is more female counterparts for common monsters. This means female representation among species such as trolls, ogres, giants and the like. You've already been doing this, so here is a friendly reminder to keep it up! :)
The third part of this is rounding out the giant subtypes, like trolls, merrows, cyclops and oni. I'd love to see a good Moss Troll and a Freshwater or Saltwater Merrow miniature. Adding some Oni to the Battles line would be great, like an Ogre Mage or some of the newer versions found in Bestiaries 2-4. If you decide to work in some Huge miniatures, it would be great to see a Great Cyclops.
7. Round out the Undead.
EVERYONE uses undead in their campaigns. Because of this, I don't rely on them quite as heavily as others when I put together my campaigns. And between the earlier Battles lines and the Undead Horde line, there is a spectacular collection of the very common undead. But it would be nice to see some of the other undead make an appearance, like a Devourer or a Shadow (and it's Greater counterpart).
8. Iron Gods miniatures.
This isn't for me, or rather, it is…but in a roundabout way.
I consider myself a pretty patient and understanding purchaser of miniatures. I wasn't thrilled to see four different types of modern russian soldiers pop-up in the Reign of Winter set. I understood, certainly, but they did nothing for me. While it's been decided that you'd be taking a break from Battles lines that tie-in to one specific Adventure Path, it occurred to me this could result in the occasional robot and the like popping up in a future set. I would not be thrilled with such a turn of events.
I'm not sure how well the Iron Gods books are selling, but they appear to have a pretty devout following on the board. I'd hate to see those that enjoy both the Iron Gods Adventure Path line and paizo miniatures to be completely shut out.
Here are my suggestions on how to handle it:
A.) Make a special Battles line strictly for the Iron Gods Adventure Path. Load up on all things futuristic, and leave them out of the regular Battles lines. Release this line during the late summer (of 2016) as some sort of Special Edition Battles line. Sure, it's one more release than normal, but announce it a full year ahead of time and folks can start budgeting as necessary.
B.) Bite the bullet and release it as part of the regular Battles line series. (such as the Spring or Winter 2016 line). If you go this route, chances are there will be plenty of folks like me that sit out a Battles case. If this seems the best option, I suggest releasing something else, like a series of traveling vessels (ships, caravans and mounts) that I can spend my money on at the time. I know there would be crossover from fans that want everything, but life is full of choices.
C.) Do a limited-run, visible package release similar to what you're doing with the Iconics. I can think of different ways to do this, but the logistics and demand might not match up well enough with one another.
9. Paizo Superstar 2015 miniature!
One of my favorite things about Paizo is the close relationship it shares with the fans. Why not expand the Superstar competition you do each year to include miniatures? You could announce what you are looking for ahead of time, and then take applications from the fans on this site, open up voting, and choose the winner. The winner would then have his or her design made in miniature form. The sale of the miniature could be a Paizo exclusive or sold elsewhere, as well.
I like this idea in conjunction with one of the other suggestions, a generic cleric with the ability to swap out different religious symbols. While I really like that idea, it seems like it might not work as a miniature included in a Battles line. It seems to me like there might be too many little pieces. Perhaps the better way to go about doing it would be to go with a stand-alone miniature.
So announce you are taking art submissions for a generic cleric miniature with swap-out symbols. Then choose the ones that you feel would be easiest to convert to a miniature and allow the members on this site to vote on their favorite. If the contest and miniature sales were a success, you could continue the contest each year.
I'd keep it simple, asking for PC-types that could fill a particular niche. For example, the contest for 2016 could be a generic elemental Sorcerer or Wizard with the ability to change out the visual aspect in which he or she specializes. This would allow me to pull off the fist of flame and attach a fist of frost, earth, or air, as needed. The 2017 contest? How about a Bard miniature that had different instruments I could swap out?
Anyways, you get the idea. I'm not sure about the logistics of something like this, but it sure would be fun.
10. Purchase the rights to release the Wheel of Time rpg, update it, and release it and a small line of accompanying miniatures.
Okay, hear me out. A decade or so ago, Wizards of the Coast had the rights to, and released, a RPG sourcebook (and some other material) based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time book series. The series was only about halfway done when the sourcebook was released, and much as changed since that time. The series has been completed, the system it was released for, 3.0, has evolved, and the fan following has grown. In addition, the author of the series, Robert Jordan, has since passed away from a rare disease.
There has been a limited-run of comics released that are based on the first book in the series. Years ago, there was a computer game released that was based on the series. And for the past couple years, there has been a website based on the series with clothes, collector's items, jewelry, costumes and weapons available for purchase. Not bad for a series that doesn't boast a blockbuster movie or television show as a medium, right?
Going this route would be beneficial for Paizo for a handful of reasons. For starters, it would allow you to take on an additional property with a pretty strong following. It would also provide a set of PC-friendly miniatures that could be easily used by any fan of the genre, not just Wheel of Time fans.
Most of the characters in the novel are human. But unlike A Song of Ice and Fire, and other similar series, magic users are much more common in the Wheel of Time world. Combine them with all the different types of nobles, royals, soldiers and warriors in the series--not to mention the near-equal ratio of men and women--and you've got yourself a potential line of miniatures that should please anyone.
And though I can't legally comment any further, I assure you that the series won't be relegated to the printed page forever. It might be best to get your foot in the door early, before other folks look to get in on the action.

I'll keep this short. I had a list of examples planned for each AP, but as usual, I'm posting from mobile and can't write the full book.
My idea was, in addition to/occasionally in place of Iconic Sets, release special NPC packs tailored to an AP. Some are more suited to this than others (Wrath of the Righteous, for example). In such a set, you could put in the most important non-spoiler NPCs. Let's use Serpent's Skull as an example. Such a set would or could have Jask, Gelik, Ishirou, Aerys, and Sasha. It would not have E. from book 5 though. This is just one example. Many of the APs would lend themselves to diverse and interesting sets.
Other than that, there's a bunch I want to see, but until money starts coming in, it's academic. Daughter of Urgathoa pls - the Inner Sea World Guide art.

So with Erik sharing on another forum where they are trying to guess the following....
A couple of good guesses here, but most of them are off the mark.
- Not the tarrasque
- Not Huge elementals (though I'd love to do a boxed set or something)
- My blog should have said "subtype." To my knowledge we've done a figure of every type except maybe plant, and there isn't a plant in the next set (I don't think)
- Not Colossal
- Not invisible or otherwise sculpt-recycling
This, I admit, makes mot of my guesses wrong. But with the sub-type comment it does give me a clue how to narrow down the guesses now. Are there sub-types they have they not done so far?

I HAVE BEEN A JACKASS!!!
Eric has written:
"As a famous pin-headed man once said, "I have such sights to show you.""
This is of course PINHEAD from CLIVE BARKER´s HELLRAISER movies!
In Hellraiser creatures from another dimension called Cenobytes, who mutilate themselves to gain a higher state of enlightment appear.
Paizo styled their KYTON monsters in homage after these iconic horror characters.
So together with his "flesh out" commentary it is 100% obvious that it will be KYTONS!!!
We have the:
"Augur" (a tiny flying eye with spikes)
"Eremite" (a medium humanoid with metal shards and skeletal wings)
"Evangelist" (a medium humanoid wrapped in chains aka "Chain Devil")
"Interlocutor" (a large multi-limbed creature)
"Lampadarius (a medium part-shadow humanoid)
"Ostiarius" (a medium humanoid with a strange beauty -think "pinhead")
"Sacristan" (a medium humanoid with mutilated face and mouth - think "chatterer")
"Termagant" (a large flying iron maiden with limbs)
"Eremite Overlord" (a large flying advanced CR 22 creature)
I don´t think we will see them all but the Evangelist, Interlocutor and Ostiarius are almost certain. Maybe the Augur and Sacristan too.
Some look like "the Borg" from Star Trek and have mechanical/cybernetic
body parts complete with lasers and stuff - fun.

Allow me to join in some of the awesome suggestions floating around:
-- Fey: little guys of various sorts (I know there are sculpting issues) and a fairy dragon
-- Undead cyclops and Vordakai the cyclops lich
-- Speaking of mantises, how can it possibly be that you have not yet done a Red Mantis Assassin? I honestly don't understand how that can be.
-- Swarms: crows, piranha, leeches (a giant leech would be cool too), bats, wasps
-- Oozes. They've got to be cheap, easy commons to sculpt and paint, right?
-- Keep the familiars coming, they're awesome! I'm also pretty sure that more mounted/unmounted options like Alain in WotR would be popular. A pack mule and a warhorse would be welcome too, and I'm sure the market would support them.
All great ideas. My only comment is that I prefer flat swarms to the lumpy ones.
A linnorm
Mythic versions of the iconics
Gillman
The Mythic Iconics would be great, though I'd probably prefer if they just eventually showed up in the non-blind line.
Commoners. More plain looking people that can double as any character or townsperson.
I love non-combatant minis. In-town combats are so much more dynamic-looking when you can see who you are trying to save.
I will again say how nice it would be to have a Mule or Pack Horse with a full pack saddle. I would also like to have a real war mastiff with armor.
Assuming that the new non-blind Iconic line will mean no more Iconics in the main line, I would love to see some Tales characters take their place.
Also, I wouldn't be at all averse to Ostog, named or not, making a prepainted plastic appearance.

Out of curiosity, do you remember the suggestions that Erik didn't refute? He said there were a couple good guesses, but MOST of them are off the mark. That implies that at least one was ON the mark. Perhaps if we took a look at what was suggested but received no comment from Erik, we might get a clearer picture.

2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Drow, lots of drow.....
Please, no. One or two to get the Pathfinder / Golarion feel would be cool, but I for one (and I know I am not alone on this) am Drow'd out. They have been over exposed ever since a certain novel series brought them into view. I realize that they have been around since 1st Ed AD&D and are a part of this wonderful hobby's past, but they seriously got over used during 2nd Ed and 3rd. / 3.5 Ed. D&D. I'm glad that they did get to make an appearance in Pathfinder, spotlighted as the Villains in the Second Darkness AP, but I am equally glad that they haven't come to dominate the setting as the Main Villains, as they have in certain other game worlds, to say nothing of them showing up as heroes at every organized play event.
When it comes to Drow (or any shadowy, secretive culture really [Aboleth, Duergar, Derro, or basically any elder evil hidden from the light of day, either underground or in deep space]), less really is more.
Kalindlara Contributor |
Plus, they may be loath to produce drow unless they have a Golarion-specific model, as the D&D Minis (past and future) have produced tons of drow. Not necessarily everything you could ever want (I would love a mini for the villain of Second Darkness), but a far wider variety than almost any other enemy race. That said, I have no shortage of D&D goblins either, so I could be wrong...
danielc |
While I understand the reasons behind not wanting Drow models, I think of them in the same camp as Orcs, Goblins, Humans, Elves, etc. Just because old lines made tons does not mean new gamers have all the old models. They should make Drow as well as many other "commonly used" villain races. Now having said that, I do agree we don't need 20 different sculpts either. A few sculpts should do just fine.
Leo_Negri |

The major difference between the Drow and Orcs, Goblins, Gnolls, Hobgoblins, Lizardfolk, Kobolds, etc. (I'm excluding Elves, Humans, Dwarfs, Gnomes, Halflings, and Half-Orcs, as these are the core PC races and we can always use more of them) is that the latter races are, A) useful over a much larger range of levels, B) Drow are typically found in groups of 8 or less while the others are frequently found in much greater numbers.
And as I said, I am not so much against more Drow models because they had so many in the older sets, as because they were saturated the older editions of the game so completely. I have the same objections to large numbers of Duergar, Derro, or Aboleth minis (or for that matter Svirfneblin), despite coming from a realm deep beneath the world's surface, they show up at every turn.
Pigraven |
I'm in complete agreement with Leo_Negri.
He stated part of it is just the saturation of the dark elves into everything D&D over the last 30 years. I'd also like to add that, at least for me, it sort of feels like that is Wizards "flagship" cult-type creature. I sort of feel like Pathfinder has their own (Goblins).
And, at least in my opinion, if Paizo is on the lookout for a different, more cultish character type, they should consider something like the Kitsune, Tengu, or Catfolk. I get many players, both young and old, wishing there were more in the way for miniatures (and overall source material) for those three races. Ratfolk is another one that's popular (and one of my favorite alternate races).
I will say that I prefer the look of the Pathfinder Drow to those of other companies. If we get a couple in one of the next couple sets, that's fine by me. And because I think, to this date, that the Pathfinder minis look much better than the newer newer D&D mins, I think we'd all be happy with the quality of any Drow we receive.

Hi.
I started to collect the Pathfinder Battles miniatures connected to PACG.
So there were two iconic heroes in the last set called "pathfinder battles lost coast", namely damiel and alahazra.
Today I checked the new upcoming set: dungeons deep.
However, there are no more PACG connected miniatures in there.
All prior pathfinder sets had two iconics heroes.
Now with the introduction of the "iconic heroes" line it suddenly stopped???
Will there be iconic Heroes in the stanard pathfinder battles line?
These collectible miniatures were more expensive and had a different pose.
It would be a pitty if you stop producing different pose iconic heroes!!
A collectible one and a PACG special one with card.
What is your future strategy here ?
Ps: u could check out all collectible miniatures at www.pathfinderminiatures.com
