Help Paizo Take the Gauntlet

Tuesday, May 6, 2014

We here at Paizo take gaming seriously, and when we heard about an opportunity to play games for charity, we just could not resist. On May 18th, a four-member team of elite goblin commandos will descend upon Card Kingdom in Seattle to do battle with other teams for the right to claim The Gauntlet, a truly epic trophy made from an actual gauntlet. With foes like Bungie, GeekGirlCon, the Lady Planeswalkers, Wizards of the Coast, and Penny Arcade, we are going to be facing off against some serious opponents. That is where you come in. You can help us achieve victory for the goblin horde!

From now until May 18th, you can donate to the Child's Play charity, a great organization that donates toys and games to children in hospitals all around the world. Money that you donate can help the Paizo team earn "Power Ups" during the tournament, giving us the edge we need to win! Make sure to put "Donated to the Paizo team" in the comment box so it is applied to our team.

Ready to Donate? Follow this link!

We've got an exciting team of goblins ready to do battle in this event. We've been hunting horses and burning down villages for weeks in anticipation of this tournament (that will be an event right?). Here's a look at the Paizo team!

Jason Bulmahn

"The Giant"
Lead Designer of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and overall troublemaker, Jason Bulmahn has been with Paizo since the days of Dragon and Dungeon magazines. Renowned among all the tribes, this massive goblin made a name for himself by devouring anybody who beat him at a game. He is also the only goblin with reach, which is pretty handy.

Erik Mona

"The Suit"
Erik Mona is the Publisher at Paizo, a former editor of Dragon, Dungeon, and Polyhedron magazines, and a co-creator of the Pathfinder world. These days he spends more time on business than on games, but like any corporate mastermind, he can stab you in the back at a moment's notice, gaining the upper hand in any challenge. With a coat, vest, and tie, Mona swears to put his evil powers to good use in the vicious scrum for the Gauntlet. For charity. But most importantly, for the children.

Jessica Price

"The Whip"
Jessica Price is the Project Manager at Paizo, where she keeps the wheels of progress turning. In former lives, she was a games writer at Microsoft Studios, an editor, an animated series showrunner, an alternate reality game designer, and other things that she may or may not admit to if you bribe her with chocolate. She plans to triumph in the Gauntlet—for the children, of course—through logic, skill, planning, and occasional devious manipulation, which should make it just like her day job.

Stephen Radney-MacFarland

"The Antipaladin"
Stephen Radney-MacFarland is a designer at Paizo, where he regularly inserts more evil into everything he touches. When reached for comment, he just began to chant the following: "Burn 'em! Bite 'em! Cut ‘em to tiny bits! Long ago, someone told this goblin games were fun for everyone. That someone gone now. Games only fun for the one left standing!"

Thank you for donating to this great cause. For more information on The Gauntlet, go to their webpage at thegauntlet.me. We will be updating our progress through this blog and on facebook as we get closer to the event, but we need your help now to secure an edge! Donate Today!

Wait... so $1,000 is worth a gauntleted punch in the face.... Stretch goals?

Yeah, what are the stretch goals? Or are we assuming a punch for each thousand dollars?

noooo don't make this kickstarter because then we will just fulfill a bunch of money goals while having to wait like 18 months for Jason to take it to the face

Wow.. just wow folks. That is an amazing response. You guys have really given us an edge in the upcoming tournament. Now I just need to find a way to make sure we don't come in first.. so I don't get punched by a gauntlet.

Wait, who said anything about needing to come in first?

I thought the condition was we just needed to raise a $1000, which we have done.

Sorry Jason.

** spoiler omitted **

The idea was to punch him with the gauntlet, which will only be available if they win.

Hmm, good point.

Maybe they could borrow it if they don’t win? The money would still be raised.

:)

Win or lose I'll punch Jason anyway...you just don't get to see it. ;)

Who let the Project Manager have the dogslicer? That seems... harsh. But then again, $1000 is all it takes to punch Jason in the face with a gauntlet and post it on YouTube. Hrmm...

If we win...

We will be facing some harsh competition. At least, that is what I keep telling myself...

(As an aside.. people seem really excited about seeing me get punched.. not sure how to feel about that...)

Can someone please donate on behalf of WOTC? It looks like they're asleep at the start line.

We love you. We also have a love of watching others get punched in the face. It's like a double dose of love for us.

It's all about the love. And for the children. :)

Woot! Paizo's passed $2,000! Can we roll to confirm the crit to Bulmahn's mug? This gauntlet does lethal damage, right? ;)

Hey Stephen: if we hit the $5,000 mark, will you make it a spiked gauntlet, and maybe at $7,500 you could perform the punch while also wielding a polearm?

;)

Ooooh. I like that idea. Hey, Jason, can we do this? THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

I wonder how much money is needed before armor spikes are on the table...

Contributor

$10,000 for an armor spike hug.

Stephen looks kinda like his avatar.

Jessica should use a pic of herself as an avatar.

Erik looks like he have Hitler's mustache.

The Internet lied to me... I thought Jason was a squishy nerd.

I am starting to think that maybe I should errata Crane Wing back to the old version so that I can deflect this attack...

Gotta use this when punching Jason. Judging by the damage output of spells like shocking grasp, it's safe to say that Bulmahn won't be walking away from a punch like that anytime soon!

But my avatar can wear a little tiara thingie without anyone making her take it off, and I cannot. :(

Jason, I recommend investing in a protective helmet. You know, just in case! ;)

As long as you've got pants, a shirt, and shoes on, tiara it up.

Who is making you take off a tiara? Is it Jason? Cause there's a pool going on right now to punch him in the face. I'm sure if it hit the right amount, as like a stretch goal, it'd could be Tiara Day every day.

This technically counts as a tiara right?

(bonus it would help with all the punching)

I rule that Stephen's thing is a tiara and we need one of those in the office stat for when any of us want to ensure that things go our way in meetings.

Yours is just a helmet, dude. Sorry.

Well if you're at home, you can wear nothing but a tiara if you'd like... At the office however, clothing is appreciated. :D

okay okay okay
we have had our fun

let us all agree that Jason is a pretty rad dude who is really cool for doing a thing that is going to provide cool things for kids who most definitely deserve a whole ton of cool things

and that because of this, we can all put aside our crane wing- and armor spike-laden passive aggressive vitriol while wishing him good fortune and expressing our sentiment that we do not wish him to be punched...heh...to be...*snnnrkkk*....to be punch-ahahahahahahahaha ahhaha ahaha hehehehe...hehe heh...heh...whoo...

sorry man I held it together until the end

I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but I'm fairly certain that appreciated =/= required.
