Hey all, been slightly unavailable, my wife had to put down her eldest cat so we have basically just been sobbing and emotionally drained the last few days.
That said, in the next couple of days I'll just push ahead with the scene on the assumption everyone is ready and where they want to be when the door is picked. If you have any last second tasks or preparations get then in soon.
Robyte
Well, we can call it a reskin then, if you're okay with it not providing cover. That seems to be a little more than the basic mods would grant. The problem is that I don't know that providing cover would be worth naming it an advanced mod.
Perhaps for flavor you're inside the drone, but it would take an additional basic mod to grant cover as though you were in a vehicle? I'm open to opinions on that option.
I realised I never replied on this. Wow. My bad. And I don't mind getting 2 mods.
DM Dickie
I am going to assume we have lost Hafipaer. Hopefully they're able to return, but if not, well, thats why I usually pick five for a game!
Since I'm working today anyway, I will give them another 24ish hours before I take a bot action for them (and going forward until he can be reasonably written out or returns).
We are very very near the end of the first book. Do you as a group want to try and recruit a replacement, or proceed without? I am leaving that totally up to you all, but asking now to get ahead of things.
Xevras
I like games with small, tight-knit groups, but I also know AP's are written with a particular set of skills and abilities in mind, so if we're lacking something now we should do something to cover it, whether that's recruit someone or tweak one of our builds. I'd be fine either way.
Ace the Squox
I'm fine with keeping it as is for now, when it gets to the point we're suffering (cough, my other SF game where two of us got smacked with a 50% chance to take no actions) I'd say otherwise, but we're doing fine here.
Hafipaer "Half-right"
Hey folks, I am still around but I was facing a lot of personal issues and I knew I was going to be unable to keep up with this game. I tried to communicate with GM directly via Private Message but perhaps I sent it incorrectly. I am sorry if there was a delay due to this confusion but personally my life took a turn that meant I could no longer focus on this game. At sometime in the near future I am hoping things settle down, but I do not want to cause further delay here. Please continue to enjoy the game folks, and I hope to play again with all of you here at some time soon. Thanks.
DM Dickie
I am super bad about PMs! That is my fault, thanks for the update.
I hope things get better for you and you're always welcome to return to the game should things get better and you find yourself capable.
@everyone else: Still an open question. I am good with you guys running just the four, but if you feel you really need a magical specialist of some sort to fill any gaps, just say so.
DM Dickie
Quick update: I have been willing to wait for Robyte because this time of year can be kind of slow with vacations and back-to-school, but will take a bot action for him at some point tomorrow if he hasn't checked in. Its also possible with the boards up and down he missed its his turn, so hopefully if thats the case he jumps in. Either way tomorrow I will be updating and checking all my games and will advance things tomorrow.

Level up!
I am sure that one feels way more earned than the previous one, lol.
So she is your ship now, the Oliphaunt. At some point in the next day or two I will get her stats updated. Upgrades to the ship aren't automatic by level, however. Instead, the build points come directly from completing jobs (or sometimes as salavage/rewards). You do start out with some BPs as a result of the exit from the company, I will give you all the total currently held when I update everything else.
There will be about a month of off-screen downtime while the ship is being refitted and the PCs take care of post-heist R&R, shopping, personal business, etc. When I post next in GP to advance things it will be the first time the crew returns to Absalom.
Do we want to find a fifth or keep moving forward with who we have?

The BP that we have accrued, and all of the loot that we have recovered thus far, are listed on the Loot Tracking Sheet listed on my profile, if that helps. If there is anything anyone wants to keep, sing out - otherwise, I would just advocate liquidating everything.
I have definitely crunched the numbers on how to upgrade our ship. Anything to finish starship combat faster ;-)
Will we be able to get chronicles for our Starfinder PCs from this? I am pretty certain this counts as 'Campaign mode' ;-)

huzzah for the level up, and apologies for last week or so, just life
This time of year can be like that, no apology needed.

Oh, good, I thought I put that out there at the time, but I should still verify from the book when I have time (hopefully tomorrow).
TBH I do not know much about doing society stuff. If I can assist, please let me know how, lol.

Well, to report a game, go to My Account > Organised Play, then select the Gm / Event Coordinator tab.
Scrolling down to the bottom, you can click on the Create Your Event tab to create a new event.
After that you can go back to the previous tab, where there should be a new event.
Clicking on the 'reporting' hyperlink will take you to a new page, where you can input the information for the game.
At bare minimum, you need everyone's PaizoOrgPlay ID, the number of the PC they wish to apply credit to, and what faction to gain reputation for.
------------
Alternately, I can report the game for you, if you would prefer. I would still need the details for anyone wanting to get a chronicle sheet, though!
Xevras
Oh, that was easier than I thought it would be. I thought for sure Deminda would have attacked us to try to keep us from just leaving with the ship. Not complaining though. :D
Let's see, Xevras is going back to leveling Technomancer now, I'll have to do the exact level-up after work. Mostly it'll be spending a feat so he has weapon specialization with Advanced Melee Weapons that will be noticeable, if I remember right. Now he just needs to pick up an actually good advanced melee weapon. :D

Yeah, the only downside is we left before claiming any of the loot from the complex. APs tend to be weighted so the better / more expensive loot is at the back-end of the book, so we probably missed out on more than a few credits... but that's how the dice roll sometimes!
Xevras
Yeah, we're turning out to be a "get the job done and get out" kind of crew, which I kind of like (even if it's a little funny for the space pirate AP :D). Hopefully it doesn't cause us too many problems.
Oh yeah, on the subject of whether or not we need to recruit... I'd kind of like to stick with the crew we have, but I would be worried about healing. Since Starfinder doesn't have convenient wands of cure light wounds depending on serums for healing might get kind of expensive (I say as the biggest target in the crew). So I'd say either make sure we regularly find some healing serums or we need to recruit a healer. :D
Oh, one other thought--I was remembering that Starfinder Enchanced had an enhanced version of the Technomancer. Any problem with me switching over to that version? It's not a big change, just a bit of a boost to DC's vs. constructs and a slight ability to tweak spells of a certain school.
Xevras
It does make it more possible to run without a healer, but sometimes it also means Starfinder AP's are more willing to wear you down with closely-spaced combats because they expect you to snatch a ten-minute break to recover stamina here and there.
DM Dickie
The ship's current stats are now in the Campaign Info tab.
Yes, unchained, I mean enhanced techno is fine.
Nik, if you'd rather just do that society paperwork on the backend you've got my blessing, lol. I just don't get out enough and do PbP too slow to participate myself right now.
It sounds like folks feel okay proceeding without a fifth for now so I will get ready to start the 2nd book shortly. Oh, and don't worry too much about missing some loot from the Drow hanger. There are credit-making opportunities coming very soon, just as there are BP earning opportunities coming.
Oh, I moved the map to Oliphaunt's deck plans so you can take a look at your new prize. Take good care of her!
Nik-a-Nik
|
No worries! I can certainly do that.
I will need a PaizoOrgPlay number for you at bare minimum, though.
Regarding the deck plan of the Oliphant, that is quite sizable!
What is the actual stat block, so I can start crunching numbers?
DM Dickie
Stat block iw in the Campaign page, but reprinting here:
Oliphaunt:
Refitted Evgeniya-Jaimisson Sledgehammer
Medium transport
Speed 12; Maneuverability good (turn 1)
AC 11; TL 13
HP 70; DT —; CT 11
Shields medium 90 (forward 23, port 22, starboard 22, aft 23)
Attack (Forward) high explosive missile launcher (4d8; 20 hexes)
Attack (Turret) chain cannon (6d4; 5 hexes)
Power Core Pulse Black (120 PCU); Drift Engine Signal Basic; Systems basic computer, basic mid-range sensors, crew quarters (common), mk
3 defenses, mk 1 armor; Expansion Bays arcane laboratory, null-space cargo hold (2), recreation suite (HAC), tech workshop
Modifiers +2 Computers (sensors only); Complement 6 (minimum 1, maximum 6)
SPECIAL ABILITIES
Null-Space Cargo Holds EJ Corp has converted two of the Oliphaunt’s expansion bays into one continuous null-space cargo hold, four times
as big on the inside as a normal cargo hold. One null-space cargo hold can contain 50 tons of goods instead of 25 (for a total of 100 tons in
the Oliphaunt’s combined hold). For the purposes of holding Huge objects, the null-space cargo hold counts as four continuous cargo holds,
instead of two; this extra cargo space is represented by the dotted blue rectangles on the Oliphaunt deck plans on the inside back cover

Sorry, I did not notice - I was just looking at the Roll20 page, which had the stat blocks of the other vehicles we have used. I did not occur to me to look at the Campaign Info tab :-/

The PCU of the listed engine is also woefully insufficient even if it *was* allowed for a starship of that size.
At present, there is only enough energy to run two out of three of the following at the same time:
1) Thrusters
2) Shields
3) Weapons
That... seems like quite an oversight for something that is supposed to be used in starship combat!
*rolls up a newspaper*
Bad Paizo!
Xevras
All right, I think I'm leveled up now.
I was thinking on the ship stats thing--I wonder if it's a deliberate representation of it being a prototype? Or maybe it's just supposed to encourage us to spend those BP we got quickly. :D
Nik-a-Nik
|
Well, technically, the ship should never have been able to leave the dock - they've done the equivalent of putting a motorcycle engine in a car, and expecting it to work :-/
Xevras
How many BP did we get again?
I realized I hadn't grabbed a feat yet, so I got weapon specialization with Advanced Melee weapons... now Xevras just needs a good one of those. :D
DM Dickie
It looks like it can handle everything with 120 (remember that the drift engine is a minimum requirement, not an active use. It's like a wattage/amperage thing). That said, I am pretty sure it's supposed to be a way of forcing the PCs to upgrade but not go crazy plus make them hungry for more BPs and credits. The bulk of the second book is about running jobs to make the BPs to upgrade the ship, so you will probably be doing a lot with the ship upgrades for a while. By the way, it's okay to convert that arcane laboratory module. Of course, I believe that's only one point, but downgrading is an option and is a one-for-one trade.
Anyway, sorry for the slowness, I've just been super exhausted lately! GP update coming soon!
Nik-a-Nik

The main problem is our thrusters + shields = the thrusters (not the drift engine) consume 80 PCU, and the Shields 30 PCU, which is 110/120 power capacity alone!
Also, just as an FYI, our ship can only have 5 expansion bays (based on its frame), and they are currently all in use - so in order to have a menagerie, we would have to remove one of the existing ones.
---------------------------------------
We currently have 11 BP, and I would recommend the following:
Remove the High Explosive Missile Launcher (which becomes useless after 5 shots) (+14BP)
Remove the Chain Cannon (which has an extremely short range) (+10BP)
Total: 35BP to spend
Upgrade Pulse Black power core to Pulse Red (-5 BP)
Upgrade the turret to a heavy weapon mount (-6BP)
Instal a Maser in the Turret (-22BP)
That leaves us with 2 spare BP, and a bunch of spare power core capacity (so that we can get additional weapons, upgrade our shields, and/or upgrade the computer core when we have spare BP).
Xevras
I thought we were saying to change the *name* of the ship to the Menagerie.
Default starship builds in Starfinder do seem to be really bad at optimizing their weapon loadouts. A Maser in the turret in place of the two weapons it came with (and upgrading the power core) sounds good to me.

Alright, well, since no-one expressed any desire to keep any of the found items, after liquidating, we each receive 551 credits.
Have fun spending!
