The mind thrust does have a save for half, I noted it in the initiative tracker. [/QUOTE

I see that now. But you did not indicate a DC, Shine got a 28 so I'm thinking she takes half. :) AP adjusted. Shine is full after that channel.

Why would I need to include the DC? Either way, update to come once I get home.

If I have messed up any HP adjustments for the psychic, such as the subtracting 10 damage instead of adding, please do let me know. He has fast healing 5 and DR5, which is a big part of why he is still kicking.

I did not mean to imply you needed to but I find in most PBP the DCs are included. Totally your call.

Fascinating development!

Can you coup-de-grace with a touch spell??? That'd be...something I've never seen, let alone done, before (and I've got one power that'd be a huge problem for him on a critical even if he survived).

On Hiatus

It counts as a melee attack, so holding the charge does allow the full round action next turn. It will hinge on him remaining unconscious until then.

I could think of less appropriate ends for this guy than getting capital-D Devoured by a star-beast...!

Oria cannot command her summon without Handle Animal and it's reasonable to assume the animal would stop attacking once the threat appears to be neutralized.

On Hiatus

Handle Animal is Trained Only for training tricks, you can make Handle Animal checks untrained. Also, as a summon it generally follows your commands. Entirely up to you if you don’t want to spend the actions to direct it, of course.

Someone should damage that unconscious psychic before he acts. I fear he will wake up if we do not. Not sure coup-de-grace is necessary. Just do some damage.

Oh right I keep forgetting the [Trained Only] tag should come with more of an asterisk on that front. Well, Oria's Charisma rests somewhere below the pavement so she'll simply let sleeping psychics lie and give him that Love Tap if he stays down for a round.

Chronicle sheets.

Very rough go, with the lack of Disable Device and the early end to the interrogation of your friend in the summoning circle costng the secondary success and both boons. :( Please let me know if I missed anything on your sheets. I do not have Shine's reporting info yet, let me know if you decided against using a replay.

I just found this post again. I think the campaign was marked inactive while I had to take a short break from pbp (only a few days). Somehow, I didn't recognize that it was gone until today. I was going to level up Kaervek and couldn't find the last chronicle... because I never saw the Discussion post! This is entirely my fault, though, for being absent.

Kaervek the Spiteful wrote:

Wow, that's some quality wizard loot there! :-O

If Kaervek survives this scenario, he'll have a boatload of rolls to make to learn all these spells from the spellbook. ^_^

I'd like to post these dice rolls in this thread, if that's ok with you, GM TOZ.

INSIGHTS OF FAR-SEEING TAERNIS (LEVEL 12 CONJURER)

These two books are part of a set held together with a leather strap. The covers are of a shimmering and unearthly blue leather, and the spines are built of silver and iron. The books are chilly to the touch, and staring at them induces minor vertigo.
Protection: Sepia snake sigil (Reflex DC 16)
Opposition Schools: Divination, necromancy
Value: 4,555 gp (6,355 gp with the preparation ritual)

SPELLS
6th — getaway(S) APG, planar binding(S), summon monster VI(S), wall of iron(S)
5th — contact other plane(OP), life bubble APG, overland flight, teleport(S)
4th — acid pit(S) APG, black tentacles(S), dimensional anchor, lesser geas, phantasmal killer, solid fog(S)
3rd — gaseous form, greater magic weapon, magic circle against evil, sepia snake sigil(S), spiked pit(S) APG, stinking cloud, tiny hut
2nd — arrow eruption(S) APG, daze monster, dust of twilight(S) APG, fantastic reach UM, glitterdust(S), metabolize(S) UM, shatter, stone call(S) APG
1st — comprehend languages(OP), disguise self, jump, mage armor(S), magic aura, mount(S), sleep, stumble gap(S) APG, unseen servant(S)
PREPARATION RITUAL
Sturdy Summoning (Su): A creature you summon gains augmented defenses for a short time. Spend this boon effect as a free action when you cast a conjuration (summoning) wizard spell. The creature you summon with that spell gains a number of temporary hit points equal to your caster level, and as long as the summoned creature has at least 1 of these hit points, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on saving throws.

A (S) indicates a spell from the caster's specialty school, whereas a (OP) indicates a spell from the spellbook creator's opposition school. UM = Ultimate Magic, APG = Advanced Player's Guide

Adding Spells to a Wizard's Spellbook wrote:

Spells Copied from Another’s Spellbook or a Scroll: A wizard can also add a spell to his book whenever he encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard’s spellbook. No matter what the spell’s source, the wizard must f irst decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings). Next, he must spend 1 hour studying the spell. At the end of the hour, he must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell’s level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from his specialty school. If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into his spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment.

If the check fails, the wizard cannot understand or copy the spell. He cannot attempt to learn or copy that spell again until one week has passed. If the spell was from a scroll, a failed Spellcraft check does not cause the spell to vanish. (...)

Kaervek owns two items that give a bonus to (either some or all) Spellcraft checks:

- Cheat sheath: +2 circumstance bonus on Spellcraft checks made to learn a spell from a spellbook or scroll, prepare a spell from a borrowed spellbook, identify the properties of a magic item using detect magic, or decipher a scroll.

- Arcane family workbook: +2 circumstance bonus on spellcraft checks (takes 1d4 full rounds). This bonus increases to +4 if 1d4 hours are spent referencing the book.

Take 10 Spellcraft, Cheat sheath, Arcane family workbook: 10 + 12 + 2 + 2 = 26

That's high enough for all spells in the book - even with the -5 penalty for spells from his opposite school (Metal) e.g. the Level 6 spell Wall of Iron.
(If he is not allowed to use both items, he could take more time to get the +4 bonus from the arcane family workbook for the most complicated spells. I don't see a reason why he should not be able to use both, though.)

The gold cost for scribing can be found here: Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook

If he copies only the spells below to his own spellbook (he already has some and doesn't want the others that were omitted), that will still be a lot of gold...

TOTAL SCRIBING COST: (4*10)+(1*40)+(5*90)+(5*160)+(2*250)+(2*360) = 40+40+450+800+500+720 = 2550 gold

As discussed with Grandmaster TOZ, Kaervek needs at least one lesser restoration to cure his ability damage to Wisdom at the end of the scenario in order to be conscious and able to scribe any spells.
Also, the funds from the chronicle are not yet available for the scribing.
Therefore, here's one addition and one correction.

1) Addition of the payment for the following spellcasting service:
- 1x lesser restoration for 60 gold (spell level*CL*10 = 2*3*10 = 60)

2) Correction of the list of spells scribed (due to lack of enough funds):

Spells copied from the spellbook INSIGHTS OF FAR-SEEING TAERNIS wrote:

6th — summon monster VI

5th — life bubble, overland flight
4th — acid pit, black tentacles, dimensional anchor, phantasmal killer
3rd — gaseous form, magic circle against evil, spiked pit
2nd —
1st — mage armor, unseen servant

NEW TOTAL SCRIBING COST: (2*10)+(0*40)+(3*90)+(4*160)+(2*250)+(1*360) = 20+0+270+640+500+360 = 1,790 gold
