Question I have on this:
We'll be running two bounties at a time once we finish this one and do all the classwork Redelia has for us.
How is that interacting with the PFS rule about one adventure at a time for each character? Do we need to have two characters available to play in both then?
GM Takeyabue |
OK, I have the most recent assignment done by Baerlie and Lantern, but not Takeyabue or Warah. Please get this assignment completed soon.
I have Bounty #7, "Cleanup Duty", downloaded, read through, images of creatures and maps extracted. If this does not complete the assignment mentioned above please let me know.

OK! I've read through Bounty 9: Fishing in Anthusis, made notes, and prepped Slides.
Melee ◆ claw +?, Damage 1d?+? slashing plus Grab
In this pre-Remaster entry, it appears that the Grab automatically lands when the Strike does. I've heard that the Remaster changes this, but was unable to find that information in the Player Core or GM Core. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!
GM Lantern |
I think that the creature abilities will end up in the Monster Core, and no one has that available yet.

No retcon needed for me. As a player, I know swarm rules already - though I haven't looked up a cobbleswarm specifically. So I had a good guess as to what I was getting myself into. And trying to retcon this much action would be more effort than it is worth.

Question regarding the social interaction part of playing this game: If I as a player notice something that a different player and the GM are getting wrong regarding the rules, what is an appropriate way of politely mentioning that?
I don't want the other players to feel like I am constantly nit-picking their game knowledge, and I don't want to start arguments with the GM.
GM Hawthwile |
Yeah, that’s a sensitive topic. If it is worth bringing up (and that’s not always the case), the best way I’ve found to approach the problem is to phrase it as a question. “Oh, I thought Ability X worked like this - is that not the case? I was basing my understanding off of…” and then link to the AoN page with the rules in question. This works for me because:
- It’s truthful - I don’t have absolute knowledge of the game, and I may be mistaken
- It’s respectful - I’m not trying to be correct, I’m not trying to be “better than the GM”, I’m trying to make sure everyone at the table agrees on how things work
- It’s helpful - you’ve done the work of citing your sources already and the GM can more easily understand your viewpoint with that context
And then the hardest part is accepting the GM’s answer. Maybe they didn’t know and what to change a ruling they made. Maybe they’ll keep it in mind for the future, but don’t want to change things mid-session. Maybe they disagree with your interpretation of the rules. All you can do is accept their decision for the duration of the game (or withdraw if staying would cause you distress). But trying to argue the GM into accepting your interpretation during the game is no fun for anybody, least of all the other players.
What have other folks done in similar situations?
Xandian |
To try practicing that:
My understanding of Aerial Boomerang is that Nhorri can use an action on her next turn to call the boomerang back to her current position - which may not be the same path that it originally took if Nhorri has moved since casting it initially.
Iput Irikir |
Xandian,
Iput actually quite likes to interact with Leshy characters, despite being the one to current throw acid on you.
Also, I just noticed the "Exploration (scout)" at the end of your banner. Is that mainly for botting reasons or would you change it during the course of an scenario?
Xandian |
Mostly I have that Exploration designation as a default. When I GM I prefer to use things that the players pick for their character according to the scene. But sometimes that just isn't practical. So as a courtesy to the GM that I play under, I list a default to use for initiative if desired.
And yeah. Ham it up with Xandian.

That makes more sense than my interpretation. The confusion comes from "It returns in a line from its square to your current location..." which I assumed meant "current" to the time the Boomerang was created. Your interpretation makes more sense upon closer inspection. (Bonus that it makes the Impulse more useful, as baddies can't just sidestep as easily.) Thanks!

What have other folks done in similar situations?
In the games I played or games I ran people were quite respectful. They mentioned that the rules might state different things and most of the time people also posted the link to the PRD or Archives of Nethys (back in PFS1 times) to make it easier for the GM or other players to follow their thoughts. But it's the same situation in RL games. GM decisions were usually accepted, I cannot remember any arguing or even withdrawal from games because of different interpretation of rules.

Cool.
Another polite rules thing: With the Remaster, ◆Swap action (a subtype of Interact just like Draw a Weapon) now exists. You don't have to drop a weapon to switch to a different one.
That one is harder to know about since AoN hasn't updated yet.
Edit: Open Gaming SRD has it though. But you have to scroll through most of the page to find it.
GM Hawthwile |
Heads up folks - I might not get a post in today due to needing to get to the office early and not getting back home until late. I’ll try to update when I get home, but I cannot guarantee it. My deepest apologies for the inconvenience.
GM Lantern |
Campaign for Hillcross Roundup ready to go.
Well ... sort-of.
Ready to link to. I still have a lot of settings to tinker with and maps to create and such.
Ulfhild Westergaard |
I hope my actions were correct. The grabbed condition says I'm immobilized (can't take any actions with move trait) and flat-footed. So I think I can take strike actions as normal, but as 2nd and 3rd strike since the escape action also has the attack trait. But please correct me if I'm wrong!

Redelia mentioned a title we have to put in the play-by-post thread we are going to create for the most recent assignment. I cannot find a template or anything we are supposed to follow. Am I blind, or has it be mentioned somewhere else? I would call my campaign "GM Baerlie's The Whitefang Wyrm", similar to GM Hawthwile campaign. Or do all GM School campaigns have to have [GM school] or something similar in the title?
Thanks for the help.

I haven't seen any official format for that.
The requirements are that the thread title has to be unique ... permanently ... across the entirety of the Paizo boards.
Which is why people often put their GM name into the thread and campaign titles - because those also have to be unique already, so that means that the rest of your thread names only have to be unique compared to the other threads that you have created.
GM Hawthwile |
I’m in agreement with GM Lantern. The only other thing I’ve considered when naming a campaign is whether I want the game to be “grouped” with other games in someone else’s Campaigns list. Best example I have is a multi-table special for a convention: I might put “[Outpost ??]” before “GM Hawthwile’s King in Thorns [1-2]” so my game shows up next to any other game that starts with “[Outpost ??]”.
That being said, that’s a very minor consideration and not one I’ve ever heard anyone actually talk about. XD

PbP thread for Fishing in Anthusis: Gameplay
GM Hawthwile |
Iput, Nhorri, and Ulfhild work together to finish turning the cauldron's magic off. There's a brief moment of worry as another wave of rocks seems poised to pour over the edge... and then they subside back into the pot. Upon closer examination, all the little rocks seem to have been petrified; little mouths frozen mid-bite as whatever force had been animating them evaporated. The quiet waits, and waits, and finally settles.
Out of combat! Damage report:
- Xandian (-12)"What in tarnation happened here!?" Kupyn stands shocked in the middle of the road, a basket of mutton dropped at her feet. Darb hides behind the old woman, not even licking the meat that has spilled onto the broken stones underfoot. "I thought I'd get the pot ready for supper so I could start right away when we all got back, but... this... what happened?"
What do you do?
So at this point, there's a few options available for bringing the adventure to a close. One method - the fastest - is to narrate things as described by the adventure's conclusion. If we're on a time crunch and folks need to get their characters to another game (or if this game has run longer than anticipated and folks seem like they're ready to be done), I'll pick that option.
Another method would be to leave some room for roleplaying and trying to make the actions and choices made during the adventure have meaning to the narrative. This is the approach I'm taking here - how will Kupyn react to you disabling her cauldron rather than breaking it? Who will you get to see at the festival dinner tonight? This can feel more satisfactory than the first option, but also takes longer.
GM Hawthwile |
So the last thing the GM needs to do in a Society game is to create and distribute chronicle sheets. While I could write out all the instructions, that's already been done here much more eloquently and thoroughly than I would likely do on my own. XD
Chronicle sheets for this game can be downloaded here - please let me know when you've gotten yours and had a chance to double-check the information on it. And if you have questions about filling out chronicle sheets at this time, feel free to ask here!

Felinzi |
I have another level 1 PFS character, but currently he is in a different game.
If I can be in the first set of running games, then I can play Xandian in the other one. We should be able to finish Felinzi's current game before those ones finish and I can play Xandian in one game and Felinzi in the other for the second pair of games.
GM Hawthwile |
Yes, we will each need two different characters since the usual restrictions of “one character per game, one game per character” still apply.
GM Takeyabue |
Slides and map are linked in Cleanup Duty. I have other 1st Level characters I was planning to use for these.
Nhorri Ephema |
You have to have a PFS# to assign the Chronicle to, so you do have to have a registered character on hand. It doesn't have to be filled out, though. All you need to choose is a name and a faction, then leave the rest blank.
Here is a link to the BB code for the pre-Remaster pregens.
Redelia |

Actually, you can apply pregen credit to a character before you create that character. It's actualy a pretty standard thing to do. You do need to pick a faction, though.
Most of the time, you'll apply credit to whatever the next character number after the characters you've created.
